Midtown pooled in another `3 lakh and the balance `6 lakh was made good by Gothi Parasmal and his son Sanjay Gothi of the charitable trust. The open area near the cancer centre was utilised by the attendants of patients who were admitted to the hospital wards. “During an evening stroll with Club President Jigar Patel and its Secretary Muthuraman, we found that scores of men, women and children were being exposed to the harsh sun and rain; and have to brave the cold during night at the open space,” said Rtn P X Antony, professor at Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The new shelter for the attendants of patients will benefit nearly 700 people who are visiting both the Cancer Centre and other wards daily at the JIPMER from nearby villages. “We are thankful to Rotary for this kind gesture. The mothers and children who would use the shelter will forever remember you with gratitude and wish your families only the best things in life,” said an elderly woman at the JIPMER.n
