Ready to contribute.
A century of building the future.
On June 6, 1924, the first seven graduates of the University of Toronto’s undergraduate business program at the St. George campus walked across the stage at Convocation Hall and received their diplomas. In 2024, the Rotman Commerce community celebrates our past, present and future through special events, profiles, stories and more. Find out more at 100rc.ca
We wish to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and, most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today it is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
Message from the Director, Career Services
At Rotman Commerce, we take exceptional students and help them grow into accomplished and career-ready young professionals.
Dear members of the Rotman Commerce community, It is with pleasure that I present to you our latest employment report, highlighting the outstanding achievements of our graduates and the continued success of the Rotman Commerce program. At Rotman Commerce, we recognize that true learning extends beyond the classroom. That’s why we have made experiential learning a cornerstone of our program, providing students with hands-on opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.
“We
aspire to strengthen student confidence and agency in their pursuit of rewarding careers.”
Through internships, case competitions, and immersive career programming, our students gain practical experience, develop essential professional skills, and build invaluable networks within their chosen industries. These experiential learning opportunities not only enhance academic learning but also empower students to explore their interests, clarify career goals, and embark on meaningful career paths.
This year, we have also offered an innovative new program with the development of an asynchronous learning module on resume and cover letter writing. Developed with our Centre for Professional Skills, this self-paced resource equips students with the tools and guidance to effectively market themselves to potential employers, further supporting their career readiness.
I’m proud of the accomplishments of the Career Services team. We aspire to strengthen student confidence and agency in their pursuit of rewarding careers. However, we cannot achieve our mission alone. Thank you to our excellent employer partners, alumni, and faculty volunteers, who each play an active role in supporting our students to be ready for anything.
As we celebrate the achievements of our graduating students, we reaffirm our commitment to providing innovative career learning opportunities which prepare students for the complexities of the modern workforce.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the success of our students.
Warm regards,
Mark C. Green Director, Career Services Rotman Commerce
Our program
specialists and focuses at a glance
The Specialist in Finance and Economics program offers a rigorous education in both fields. Students gain expertise in both theoretical concepts and practical applications of finance and economics. Optional focuses available in this program include:
• Data Science in Business
• Managing in Diverse Economies
Rotman Commerce provides a diverse range of options to cater to individual students’ passions and aspirations.
The Rotman Commerce program is offered jointly by the Faculty of Arts & Science and the Rotman School of Management. Our four-year Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree comprises courses from each parent faculty. This gives students a unique advantage: they complement their business studies with a wide array of courses designed to develop new insights and experiences, and potentially, new ways of thinking.
By the end of their first year, students select one of three specialist programs to gain in-depth and comprehensive education in their field of interest.
Students can also select one or more optional focuses, which develop their expertise in a subdiscipline of business and deepen their overall understanding of the core concepts within their chosen field.
The Specialist in Accounting is for students who aspire to become Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs) or pursue careers or graduate studies in accounting. It provides a comprehensive education in the core accounting areas of financial and managerial accounting, taxation and audit, as well as finance, marketing, organizational behaviour, operations and strategy. The following focuses are available:
• Data Science in Business
• Managing in Diverse Economies
The Specialist in Management program encompasses various areas of business, allowing students to tailor their studies to their specific interests. It offers eight optional focuses, including:
• Data Science in Business
• Finance
• Financial Statement Analysis
• International Business
• Leadership in Organizations
• Managing in Diverse Economies
• Marketing
• Strategy and Innovation

The Centre for Professional Skills (CPS) works with faculty and staff, both inside and outside the classroom, to scaffold professional skill development throughout the four years of the BCom degree.

The RC Career Journey
a model of success in career strategy and planning
The RC Career Journey model is a non-linear tool to help individuals navigate their career paths based on their interests, values, skills and aspirations. It emphasizes the importance of making choices that align with personal goals and priorities. The model encourages students to explore various career options and keep their focus broad, maximizing opportunities and increasing the likelihood of finding a satisfying and attainable position. The Journey consists of three components: Discover, Develop and Experience.
71 Rotman Commerce career education at a glance
8 technical training sessions offered
6
dedicated Career Advisors
Career Peers completed 397 appointments
2,111
career coaching appointments attended
core workshops delivered
33 coaching hours delivered 1,055
The RC Career Journey is a continuous model that individuals can revisit and apply throughout their careers. As social, economic, political and technological changes occur, this model provides a framework for combining learning, planning, agility and creativity.
Discover Develop Experience
In the Discover phase, students identify their strengths and explore potential career paths. They receive guidance from the Career Services team, engage in research and information sessions, and seek mentorship from alumni and professionals. The goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of their capabilities, interests and values to make informed career decisions. This process is not a one-time event but an ongoing cycle of planning, self-reflection and adaptation.
The Develop phase focuses on building a professional toolkit to effectively communicate one’s skills, experience and personal brand to prospective employers and influencers. Students receive support in crafting resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles and personal branding. They participate in consultations, networking events, workshops and industry-specific sessions to enhance their career management skills. The aim is to equip individuals with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate the job search process successfully.
The third phase of the journey emphasizes gaining relevant hands-on experience to demonstrate value to employers. Students are encouraged to pursue summer placements, internships, part-time positions and volunteer opportunities. Technical training, case competitions and participation in career treks and conferences further broaden their horizons. Through these experiences, students expand their network, understand workplace practices and refine their career search strategy. Collaboration with peers enhances their learning and provides valuable insights.
Student stories
learning outside the classroom
With a passion for emerging technology that was kickstarted by a seminar in Silicon Valley, Nicola understands the value of experiential learning.
Offered the opportunity to turn her summer internship at PwC into a 16-month professional experience year, she took the leap. Working for four times the length of a typical internship gave her the opportunity to take on more impactful projects and become a highly valued member of her team.
Alongside her internship, Nicola remained active on campus as the President of the University of Toronto BizTech Association, drawing on her industry experience to empower University of Toronto students in business and technology careers.
When Nicola returned to the University for her final year, she was equipped with deep industry knowledge and an understanding of how the skills taught at Rotman Commerce are put into practice in the workforce.
During her internships at IBM and The Kraft-Heinz Company, Kashvi gained invaluable insights that steered her toward consulting.
At IBM, as a SAP Consultant Intern, she immersed herself in intricate business transformations, offering counsel to clients and contributing to substantial proposals for RFPs valued at $200 million. This experience honed her analytical skills and deepened her comprehension of emerging technologies crucial in consulting.
“My internship experiences were pivotal in confirming my passion for consulting.”
As a Category Sales Planning Intern at The Kraft-Heinz Company, Kashvi optimized product mixes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align company strategies and achieve key performance indicators.
These experiences solidified Kashvi’s passion for consulting, enriching her understanding of the technical intricacies of business operations and the importance of strategic planning and teamwork. Eager to leverage these insights, Kashvi remains committed to excellence and innovation in her future endeavors.
Polina’s Enterprise Finance Analyst internship at TD and Solution Sales Specialist internship at Microsoft exposed her to a plethora of work styles, tasks, and work for internal and external stakeholders.
“Be
open to exploring different career paths and experiences, and invest time to figure out your passions.”
At TD she was introduced to the field of financial services, FP&A, and results reporting to stakeholders, while her internship at Microsoft propelled her to explore the dawn of AI and its impact on enterprises and corporations.
Through exposure to different roles and industries, Polina was able to gain a strong understanding of her strengths at work, further develop her leadership competencies by working on complex, open-ended challenges and committing herself to continuous learning. Experiential learning aided Polina in her passions, honing her critical thinking skills and sharpening her analytical and presentation competencies learned at Rotman Commerce.
Like many students, Brandon wasn’t sure what career he wanted to pursue at the end of his first year. However, with the help of the Finance Foundations summer program offered by Career Services, he was able to narrow down his interest within the financial services industry to investment banking.
During second year, Brandon was a member of the inaugural cohort of the Finance Accelerator, which helps prepare second-year students for the rigorous recruiting process for capital markets jobs through panel sessions, skill-building workshops, and one-on-one mentorship. A highlight was the New York Trek, where participants visited firms such as Nasdaq, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs and networked with alumni working in the city.
One of Brandon’s biggest takeaways from the Finance Accelerator was the importance of having a clear vision of your goals while still keeping an open mind. This has been instrumental in his recruiting journey.

Our Career Services team works closely with alumni to connect them with the best and brightest young leaders who can give their businesses and organizations a much-needed edge in our rapidly changing world.
The RC Advantage
the partnership model of engagement
Our student differentiation and corporate partnership model is called the RC Advantage. It focuses on answering three key questions from the perspective of employers: why they should recruit from Rotman Commerce, what they can do to elevate their organization’s brand within the student community, and how they can engage with students as they think about their careers.
Recruiting at Rotman Commerce
We offer one of Canada’s most rigorous undergraduate business programs, which pairs a strong academic foundation with specialized technical skills. Technically, students learn about financial modelling, data analytics, coding/programming and AI.
Students also benefit from programming offered by the Centre for Professional Skills, which provides them with six essential competencies commonly found in corporate environments. Moreover, Rotman Commerce is proud of its diverse student population and as a result, its diversity of thinking.
Elevating a corporate brand
Rotman Commerce provides organizations with numerous opportunities to showcase their brand. This can come in the form of supporting student events, participating in career fairs or funding a scholarship. These activities allow organizations to make an impact, gain visibility and exposure among the student community and showcase their brand as potential employers. The Career Services team can work with organizations to develop customized marketing and communication strategies to target and engage students effectively.
Engaging with students
To find the best talent for organizations, it is important to get the message out early and start identifying potential candidates well before graduation. The Career Services team works with employers to create engagement opportunities that align with recruiting goals and expand students’ career education.
Organizations can participate in various career and industry programs, including the Management Consulting Accelerator Program, or industry-led workshops, panel or networking events. Many employers find on-site visits to be a very effective method of giving students first-hand exposure to the workplace.
