Welcome Letter

Welcome!

Welcome runners, walkers, and ruckers! I can’t tell you how ecstatic we are to welcome you all to Tulsa in person. As much fun as our virtual event was last year, there’s just nothing like in-person racing to get your blood pumping! Whether you’ve come from near or far, are used to hilly streets or flat country lanes, we’re so glad you’re in Tulsa. This year is a special one for the Williams Route 66 Marathon! Not only are we back in person, we’re also celebrating our 15th anniversary (for real this time, since we counted last year as 14.5 years). In celebration of our 15th anniversary, we’re rolling out a new medal series to lead up to our 20th anniversary. This year’s finisher medal features Buck Atom, the famous Route 66 space cowboy, as the first in our series celebrating Route 66 roadside attractions. While you’re in Tulsa, stop by and see him at Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios at 1347 E 11th St and snap a photo with the real Buck and your medal! We might just feature your photo on one of our social media accounts. Of course, our return to in-person racing is possible thanks to some changes to make race weekend safe and enjoyable for everyone: • This year, we’ll be holding our Health and Fitness Expo outdoors to ensure there is plenty of ventilation. • We have limited registration numbers in order to allow for increased spacing in our corrals on race day and ask that runners respect social distancing as much as possible in the corrals.

Additionally, gear check for the marathon, half marathon, and marathon relay will occur in advance during Expo hours; gear bags will be returned to runners in the finisher’s area after the race. I’d be remiss if I did not thank the City of Tulsa, our Medical Director, and local public health officials for their support in ensuring a safe return to in-person racing. Please also thank the volunteers who will be spending race weekend making sure that you have the weekend you’ve been waiting for since 2019! I’d also like to thank you, our participants, for coming back to Tulsa and partying with us in Oklahoma’s biggest block party. Our city has missed the sounds of runners and walkers pounding the pavement, and we’re so excited to have you back with us!

HERE’S TO A HAPPY, HEALTHY RACE WEEKEND FOR ALL! Destiny Green
