This time of year most of us realize that all year long we’ve been chasing after some “other” reality” or “a better version” of ourselves, continuously trying to change. We look back and go:

Stor y. We follow the lives of Nick and Caren, who are romantically involved and have been for a few years already. Nick works in Corporate, while Caren is a freelance designer and part time-waitress, They live together in an apartment in Upper Woodstock, and travel to work everyday, in the heart of the city bowl, a good couple, reckless and free but can they commit to each other? Are they ready for the next step?
The City Bowl. Upper Woodstock. Corporate Cape Town and Urban Long Street. The setting of the film will visually illustrate a young, upcoming, vibrant, trendy Cape Town where our characters find themselves in and are actively participating in the world where corporate meets culture & design.
Settin g.
Our two lead are Nick and Caren who are dating and they are friends with Matt and Sarah who are also dating. With this short film we will capture the Alternative English Cape Town Subculture and how our English society challenges to modem new-media status quo. We delve into their lives and go on this journey of closure with them and how they move out, and move on.
The Character s.
This film to look like the sounds of Dave Brubeck ’Take Five” and “Dead Priests II, from Jay-Z. With strong French New Wave influences and urban street realism, with cinematography that depicts Cape Town as a city of stature, a city that’s alive and happening.
Cinematograph y.
Art Department, Wardrobe & Styling, Editing, Visual FX and Illustrative Design will all creatively collaborate to encapsulate our characters in this world, with influences from Urban & Industrial Design, Art & Illustrative exhibitions and street style fashion trends. Ultimately the creative design of this film should contextualize the world our South African Generation-Y, New Media driven audience.

The Sound and Music of this film will relate directly to our audience where Music will be a commercial marketing tool, commerciality if you will‌ The chosen soundtrack will be incorporate trendy illustrative photographic design as a digital advertising mechanism The Sound will be real. Realist and raw, the Sounds of Cape Town and the City Bowl.

I’m Moving Out on 31 December 2014 when the first draft was written. It took us the whole of 2015 where we did a lot of market research about the wants and needs, norms and expectations of our new-media driven generation and with this project we believe that will learn something insightful about our South African Short Film Audience while identifying & engaging with an English South African Short Film Audience.
