DREAMS FULFILLED AS RELATIONSHIPS FORM

Looking back, we never dreamt that Corcoran Reverie would be what it is today. What started as two boutique brokerages along Northwest Florida’s 30A joining forces just over two years ago, has become something much bigger than we ever imagined. With four offices and over 200 agents, we now span across the Panhandle from Destin to Panama City and across states to the Music City of Nashville, Tennessee.

The formation and growth of Corcoran Reverie was no accident, though. It is truly the result of the relationships that we’ve cultivated over the years and our shared passion to change the face and culture of real estate here in Northwest Florida and beyond. It is through these relationships that we were led to Nashville.

The reputation of Worth Properties, LLC in the Nashville area had already drawn our attention as we looked at the next opportunity to expand beyond our Northwest Florida reach. Janet Jones, the former owner of Worth, had cultivated a unique culture and a service-driven brokerage that resonated with us. We had an instant connection the moment we met, and we knew this partnership was the start of something great. As Corcoran Reverie, we knew that we could leverage the history and experience of Worth Properties, along with the technology and support staff of

Corcoran Reverie, to create a truly unique luxury brokerage unlike anything Nashville had ever seen.

It is through these relationships that we are able to build upon the connectivity between 30A and Nashville that had long been established to provide clients the opportunity to invest in the beach house they’ve always wanted or a condo in the Gulch. In addition, our relationships also led us to becoming the official real estate brokerage of the Tennessee Titans. But our excitement for this collaboration is larger still than the stadium itself — we get to touch, not only the staff, players and fans, but help make the reverie of the Titans nation become a reality as they sew into the communities of Greater Nashville.

Nashville is a hub for tourism — alive with music, bachelorettes and hot chicken sandwiches. But those that call it home know there is much more to the city. From boroughs to suburbs, each pocket has something to offer.

“Nashville is a top-rated, growing city that still retains the small-town feel,” said Steve Townes, realtor and broker at Corcoran Reverie’s Nashville location.

Townes has been part of the Reverie team since the recent partnership with Worth Properties LLC, where he has been serving as a real estate agent for 11 years. But Townes is a long-time local too, having grown up in the area and returned to live and work.

“There are so many great areas of Nashville to live, work and play, each with their personalities,” said Townes.

The downtown area offers a great vibe “bustling with people enjoying wonderful restaurants, bakeries, shops, arts, sports, municipal golf courses and parks,” according to Townes. And there’s always something to do from festivals, craft fairs, plays, parades and, of course, concerts and live music. With its growing popularity, Townes said that new living options are abundant with high-rise buildings popping up almost yearly.

Venturing into the boroughs, Townes said that “close-in neighborhoods like East Nashville, Germantown, Sylvan Park, the Nations and 12 South, each with mixtures of renovated older homes and new construction, have enjoyed a rebirth over the years.”

In the suburbs, Green Hills and Belle Meade boast convenience to all downtown Nashville has to offer, as well as some of the best area hospitals and universities. Close to the bustling city life, these areas offer natural beauty, too, with access to the city’s greenway systems for walking, hiking and biking. For a taste of suburban sprawl coupled with a historic vibe, Franklin, Hendersonville, Bellevue and Mt. Juliet are the perfect communities.

A wealth of farmers markets is another great Nashville attribute. “For me, a great summer Saturday morning outing includes a stop at the Franklin Farmers Market for locally grown fresh vegetables and fresh fruits like blueberries and strawberries,” said Townes. The Nashville Farmers Market in Germantown is a popular weekend hot spot. But you can find one local to your community in just about every Nashville borough and suburb.

Townes himself has settled in the south-of-Nashville suburban community of Brentwood, known for its rolling hills, acre lots, convenient interstate access into the city and outdoor lifestyle.

He’s grateful for the variety offered by being close to the city. And from what he can tell, other people have noticed it, too.

“Nashville’s moniker as the ‘it city’ in recent years has fueled unprecedented population growth, powered by the relocation of many large companies, their employees, ancillary businesses and even the pandemic,” said Townes.

THE WORLD’S LUCKIEST FISHING VILLAGE

Northwest Florida is home to many gems that are becoming more and more enticing to those looking to relocate for a more laid-back lifestyle. With worldclass fishing, beaches and coastal vibes mixed in with Southern hospitality, it’s no wonder snowbirds are flocking to the shores in search of their beach retreat.

And one of the best spots to cast out your real estate fishing line is none other than Destin Florida, a town with a longstanding history in the fishing industry. And fall is an especially popular time for anglers in the area with the Destin Fishing Rodeo taking place from Oct. 1–31. The rodeo has been a Destin staple since it was founded in 1948 by the locally well-known Marler family. The idea was to extend the tourist season for another month, a tactic that’s worked now for nearly 75 years.

The month-long event features a daily weigh-in at AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar in the Destin Harbor where your big catch can be assessed for prize winnings. And with thousands of dollars in cash prizes on deck, the event attracts anglers aplenty with locals as well as transient competitors from across the country and the globe.

CORCORAN REVERIE GEARS UP TO BUILD HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOUSE IN WALTON COUNTY

For most Corcoran Reverie agents, helping a family find a dream home usually entails conducting market research and showing properties.

But this fall the brokerage — which stands more than 200 agents strong — will don hard hats, work gloves and tool belts to build a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house for a deserving family in Santa Rosa Beach. Corcoran Reverie is partnering with Walton County Habitat for Humanity to support the home-building project through their volunteer work, funding and connecting partnerships with some of their preferred vendors.

“It’s an amazing organization,” said Jacob Watkins, owner and real estate advisor of Corcoran Reverie. “What they stand for is about so much more than building a house. They really give back to communities.”

The house is one of four that the nonprofit hopes to complete during its current construction season, according to Teresa Jones, executive director of Walton County Habitat for Humanity.

“Corcoran Reverie has an amazing reputation throughout our community,” she said. “We are beyond excited to be a part of their commitment to making an impact where they serve.”

Jones said Corcoran Reverie’s exceptional reputation, strong leadership and commitment to providing homeownership opportunities make it an ideal home sponsor.

“Sponsoring a home truly is an investment into our community,” she said. “Not only does it affect the partner family that we are building for, it creates jobs and brings people together.”

Jones said the one thing she works to help people understand about Walton County Habitat is that the nonprofit doesn’t give homes away. Partner families not only pay their zero-interest mortgage, property taxes and home insurance, they are also required to commit more than 250 hours of sweat equity per adult into the program. And the act of paying back their loan in turn creates funding to build more homes in the future.

“Habitat makes a permanent difference to the families we build for and is one of the only organizations that helps lessen the burden for governmental subsidies and other nonprofits,” she added. “It truly breaks the cycle of poverty.”

And with such a scarcity of affordable housing in Walton County and the surrounding area, Walton County Habitat cannot afford to slow its pace.

“Our local schools and hospitals are severely struggling to find staff, as well as our booming tourism industry due to lack of affordable housing,” Jones said. “Workforce housing is the number one issue that our local community faces at this time.”

The donation of construction costs, building materials and construction volunteers are critical to building Walton County Habitat homes.

“Our local Habitat doesn’t receive funding from Habitat for Humanity International, so we truly depend on local families and businesses to make our mission possible,” said Jones, who has led the organization since 2011. “In turn, we try to use local businesses and vendors when we build our homes to help create jobs and generate income for those businesses.”

Another way to support Walton County Habitat is through donations of cash, home goods and housewares to its ReStore.

“Our ReStore pays for all of our operations, so every dollar donated goes directly to build homes in Walton County for

deserving families,” Jones said. “We really depend on the local community to make this happen.”

In the past two years, due to economic hardships posed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Walton County Habitat has faced obstacles on many different fronts. The pandemic-induced

lockdown hit the organization hard, slowing its building capacity just when it was needed most. Like many nonprofits, the agency also lost scores of talented volunteers and hasn’t fully recovered yet.

“We lost a lot of our participation,” Jones said. “Businesses are struggling with staffing, so we’re not getting as many build days as we used to.”

Construction has also been affected by ongoing inflation and a still-snarled supply chain.

“Not only are construction material prices higher but vendors and labor as well,” Jones said. “Everybody is struggling to keep up.”

Yet even in the face of these challenges, Jones is hopeful about the future because Walton County Habitat has big plans on the horizon. In addition to the goal of four houses this building season, it is slated to complete the infrastructure for its first-ever Habitat for Humanity neighborhood, Hope Village, which will feature 13 homes.

Although the Corcoran Reverie house has seen some delays in the framing process, Jones expects the property to be framed and ready for volunteers sometime in October. More than 200

volunteers — who will be doing everything from installing siding to laying sod — will be needed to complete the 1,427-square-foot home within the expected four-month time frame.

Watkins said the Corcoran Reverie team is excited to provide muchneeded labor but also to work alongside their colleagues in a completely new way.

“It’s a team building situation,” he said. “All of our agents are going to come out, and they’re going to put their hands on that house and they’re going to help to build it.”

Watkins said the ultimate goal — a well-built home for a family who couldn’t otherwise afford one — is the best motivation Corcoran Reverie could have as it heads into the project.

“We are going to know, as a company, that we physically built a house from the ground up that is going to help an underprivileged family,” he said. “Knowing that your hands were the ones that were hammering those nails is going to feel so amazing because that’s who we are at our core. We are that group that gives back and gets our hands dirty.”

When Corcoran Reverie owners Hilary Farnum-Fasth and Jacob Watkins began making plans to expand operations from Northwest Florida to Nashville, the entire company started dreaming big.

Broker and owner Hilary Farnum-Fasth was no exception.

“I think Christoffer and I were driving in the car, and I looked at him and I was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to partner with the Tennessee Titans being that they’re the largest organization in that area?’” she recalled. “And it was just fun-talk.”

The couple shared their idea with a Corcoran Reverie investor who had a key connection to Nissan Stadium, the Titans’ home field, and were invited to meet with Titans executives. Introductions were made, visions and values aligned and a dynamic partnership was forged.

“It just snowballed from there, and it was quite amazing,” Farnum-Fasth said. “I think they saw aligning with us as an elevation.”

This fall, as the Titans’ 2022 football season kicked off Sept. 11, the once fun-talk became reality. Corcoran Reverie made its debut as the Titans’ official real estate brokerage with its brand name flashed across multiple screens throughout Nissan Stadium.

“Part of our partnership package is that we get a lot of light time … And we’ll have a spot on the actual scoreboard,” Farnum-Fasth said. “We’ll be in the concourses and all over the grounds.”

The exclusive partnership entitles Corcoran Reverie to promote itself alongside the Titans while the Titans, in turn, introduce and promote Corcoran Reverie to their fans, staff and players.

“We couldn’t be more excited or more proud to be partnering with a brand like Corcoran Reverie,” said Gil Beverly, senior vice president and chief marketing and revenue officer for the Titans. “We have learned a lot about them and have a crazy amount of respect for Hilary and her team. We just think the sky’s the limit with this partnership.”

see ourselves as a premium brand, so we want to partner with other premium brands. Corcoran Reverie has a great national reputation. They’re a leader in their field.”

Perhaps the strongest connection is the one that exists between Titans fans and Corcoran Reverie’s home base of 30A, where an increasing number of Nashvillians — many of whom have migrated from California and New York in the past few years — are spending regular vacations and purchasing second homes.

“We consider our market to be, obviously, the state of Tennessee, but we also reach into southern Kentucky and northern Alabama, and the one thing that folks from all three of those states like to do is hit the beach in the springtime and summer down on 30A,” Beverly said, adding that he has personally made the drive several times in the past few years. “The reality is that a lot of our fan base spends time down there — 30A is officially a thing here!”

Farnum-Fasth agreed, adding that the geographical connection is a vital part of the lasting relationship they are building with the Titans franchise.

“Nashville is basically an extension of our 30A market,” Farnum-Fasth said. “So, many people in Nashville have a second home on 30A.”

Add to that the Titans’ massive reach and appeal across multiple Southeastern states and the partnership is a win-win for all involved.

“Nashville and this team are only growing,” Farnum-Fasth said. “I believe when you put two high-end brands together, success just goes up exponentially.”

And while theirs is certainly a lucrative partnership, the underlying relationship is one rooted in respect and trust, she said.

“We have so much in common, and we have become good friends with the people in this organization,” Farnum-Fasth said. “When we go up there, we get invited to dinner. When they come down here, they get invited to dinner. It’s not just business.”

Farnum-Fasth is especially excited to collaborate with a company known for generously giving back to its surrounding communities.

presence in the community. One of the team’s priorities is growing the sport of football and making it more accessible in cities and towns across the Nashville area. In 2021, the Titans partnered with public schools in Williamson County, a suburban area south of Nashville, to introduce girls flag football. And this year the team is launching the same effort with Metro Nashville Public Schools.

“We’re really creating the opportunity for young women to learn and play the sport,” Beverly said. “It’s an opportunity that frankly just hasn’t been out there before.”

The Titans organization also shows up when duty calls.

“Unfortunately, we have had plenty of opportunities to engage in disaster relief, dating back to the tornado of 2020 that struck the heart of Nashville,” Beverly said. “Days later we had coaches, players and staff literally in the streets cleaning up stuff, delivering food to people, delivering blankets.”

Beverly said it’s not so much an obligation as it is the simple belief that serving others, particularly in a time of need, is the right thing to do.

“From our team owner on down, we just believe that community is a core value for the team,” he said. “We take being a corporate citizen very literally. Obviously winning is part of the football aspect, but the role we play in this community goes far beyond entertaining folks 10 games a year at the stadium.”

Corcoran Reverie has also embraced its chance to step out as a corporate citizen and recently served as the title sponsor of the popular pre-season Titans Foundation 5K — where thousands of runners finished on the 50-yard line at Nissan Stadium. The company will also be the official sponsor of community tailgate events at every Titans home game throughout the 2022 season.

“Stuff like that is very, very big for us,” Farnum-Fasth said. “For us to do things that are community driven really speaks to who we are as a company.”

The Corcoran Reverie leadership team also plans to spend plenty of quality time in Nashville during the rest of the 2022 football season. They will be regular and enthusiastic occupants of their suite at Nissan Stadium, hosting clients and other associates while they watch the Titans rule on the field.

“We’re coming off a season where we were the 2021 regular season AFC champions,” Beverly said. “We’ve got a lot of exciting young players. We’ve been pretty competitive in the past few years, and we expect to be again this year.”

For Farnum-Fasth, a long-time and loyal New Orleans Saints fan, it’s been easy to make room in her heart for the Titans and their fans.

“Now I just have a second team that I get to cheer for and interact with on more of an intimate level,” she said. “It’s going to be amazing!” 

ADD CLASSIC TOUCHES WITH PINE BOUGHS AND PINECONES, HOLLY, VINES AND ACORNS

Bringing the outdoors inside for the holidays can add a special touch to your seasonal decor. Whether you want timeless elegance, a rustic funky feel or just a bit of greenery to add a festive flair, using what you have in your yard can deliver.

Classic natural decorations include evergreen boughs wired to the top of a staircase banister or draped across the mantel over the fireplace. Be aware that if you do light a fire, it will dry out the boughs, so have a mister handy to spritz them periodically. It’s also a good idea to have a supply of evergreen boughs tucked away in a bucket of water to replace as needed.

You can dress up your evergreens with red velvet bows, small Christmas ornaments of various colors or small antique children’s toys scattered throughout. If you’re going for a more rustic design, wire together a trio of pinecones and nestle them among the greenery. You could spray-paint the tips of the pinecones with gold flecks for a pop.

A living tree you can plant in your yard after Christmas is the ultimate natural Christmas decoration, but make sure you get a tree that will thrive in our area. Those Douglas firs and blue spruces look great in their burlap bags, but neither will survive a North Florida summer. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services lists red cedar, Virginia pine, sand pine, spruce pine and Leyland cypress as trees grown in Florida for Christmas trees.

Lana Arnold, a Florida Master Gardener and a board member of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, has taught classes on using nature to decorate. She particularly likes acorns from the Shumard Oak, which have a ruffle near the base.

“Cut cedar boughs, holly bushes with berries on them, juniper — any of your evergreens make great wreath additions,” Arnold said.

She also recommends cutting your wild grapevines, normally found annoying, and winding them in a circle in the bottom of a plastic bucket. They will dry into a wreath form, but it’s important to cut them while they still have some green. You can glue on greenery, hickory nuts or acorns, small pinecones or leaves once the vines have dried.

Wreath forms are also available at many garden centers and hobby stores, and you can bring them to life with many things in your yard. Loquat leaves make a lovely wreath; attach ripe kumquats with picks. Or slice blood oranges and dry them in a dehydrator, then pin them to your wreath for a touch of seasonal color. If you want to add fresh blossoms, make sure you put them in floral picks, which have a water reservoir to keep the bloom fresh. Camellias are lovely in a wreath or floating in a holidaytheme bowl on a side table.

Boxwood is an old standby. Prune your boxwoods in late November or early December and keep the trimmings in water. They can be used for any decorative element, but they are especially useful for creating topiaries. A round foam ball atop a PVC pipe anchored in a flowerpot is transformed with a bit of paint on the pipe and boxwood covering the foam ball. Add a few camellias in picks or colored ball ornaments as mulch in the pot as a finishing touch.

Blooming plants such as amaryllis and Christmas cactus can provide colorful blossoms for the holiday season and then be preserved for future years. Plant your amaryllis outdoors in the spring. Move your Christmas cactus to a guest room after blooming and water it sparingly, then move it to a covered porch in spring. Bring it indoors before a frost. 

“Your home needs to appeal to a wide variety of people,” Fowler explained. “Our aim is to be on trend, new and fresh. That bright red accent wall may not appeal to everyone but updating to white cabinets and countertops is classic and timeless.”

Schuler encourages sellers to remember the end goal, frequently reminding clients, “you are doing this work to sell it, not to invest in your dream interior design. It’s not personal, it’s business.”

Practically speaking, home staging provides a purpose for each room of the home. “Most people don’t have a vision,” said Schuler. “So when they can see how a room is laid out, they can see a space and envision themselves there.”

According to Fowler, when a house is properly staged it takes out the guesswork for the buyer. “If done well, it creates an emotional experience for buyers when they see it. It keeps them in the house longer. The longer you can keep a client in the home, the more they become attached to the house,

and that’s when they are more likely to make an offer,” she said.

Home staging also differentiates a house from the competition, especially new construction. Schuler explained it this way, saying, “Imagine a buyer sees 10 houses; nine are vacant and one is fully furnished, down to the carefully thought out accessories. That house is most likely to sell faster.”

Schuler would know. She has invested in and relocated to 16 different homes during her career and Fowler, who owns a home staging business, has 12 years of local and regional real estate experience.

The process is simple, Fowler tours the property and makes a recommended wish list of everything that needs to be added, removed and changed to get a house in top shape to sell for the highest price in the least number of days. The homeowner decides how they’d like to proceed, and the Corcoran Reverie home staging team works directly with contractors until the project is completed.

“No job is too small or too big,” Fowler said. “We try to ‘white glove’ what fits the owner best. Most of our clients don’t live here, so there is a lot of trust put in us. We treat each home as if it were our own.”

Schuler and Fowler provide their services for all Corcoran Reverie clients and partner with outside agents as well. From new construction and “total gut jobs” to simple fixes such as replacing light bulbs, this team handles every detail. Their professional advice and a punch list will run you about $150 per hour. You can hire them hourly or pay a percent of the total project.

“With many homes over 20 years old in this market, there is a real need for our services to refresh them,” Schuler said. “As someone who has invested in numerous properties, I get it. When the Simpsons encourage out-of-state real estate clients to leave everything behind to follow their dreams of living the Emerald Coast life, they speak from experience.

Long jogs on the beach, sunset sails and fresh seafood grilling on the deck sound nice, but the reality of leaving everything and everyone you know behind, to chase a dream is quite daunting. Suzanne and Joe Simpson and their adult son, Jes, who make up Corcoran Reverie’s The Simpson Group, know that firsthand.

During the height of the pandemic, the Simpsons left their former home in Arkansas to start new lives, including new careers, in Rosemary Beach, Florida. In just two years, their passion for living, working and playing on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, has made them one of the top Real Estate sales teams at Corcoran Reverie, with over $40 million in pending and closed sales in the first six months of this year.

“Sales is sales,” said Joe, commenting on the leap of faith that led them to sell their medical equipment company and start selling real estate on the Florida Panhandle.

“We’ve vacationed here for 20-plus years and it's always been a dream of mine and we had an opportunity to sell our business in Arkansas, so we decided to go for it,” said Suzanne.

As a team of three, the Simpsons divide duties.

“We all play to our own strengths,” Joe said. “I'm the outfront person, talking to people on a daily basis, seeing everyone, making sure we’re staying in contact. Suzanne’s more of the back office, working the leads and sending emails out and marketing. And then Jes does kind of what I do but then he's always researching and looking for property.”

“Instead of waiting for someone to come in your door, Joe goes outside to greet them,” said Suzanne. “And I think that’s something he developed in Arkansas, calling on doctors years ago. You have to go ask for the business; you can't wait for it to come to you.”

“I bought my first rental property when I was in college, growing to 85 doors over time,” Joe said, “and I’ve been in sales forever … reading people figuring out what they want, making them comfortable with the purchase.”

Jes, 23, has inherited his parents’ sales skills, but excels in the area of research. He spends his time looking for land deals, commercial development opportunities and helping find the perfect properties for clients.

“Before committing to dental school, Jes wanted to give real estate and investing a chance. So, I told him to take a year and try it and he moved down here with us,” Joe said.

Suzanne keeps the back office running smoothly. She says her nursing degree and an adult life spent buying, remodeling and selling homes has led to her dream career in real estate sales.

Her job — and that of the entire team — is made easier with the support of the Corcoran brand.

“The thing with Corcoran, they just give you so many tools,“ Joe said.

From conventional marketing, to listing properties or even social media, Corcoran’s ready-made formats and standards make what could be a very time-consuming, difficult aspect of the job so much easier.

“I mean it's point and click and you're done, you're not spending hours doing that stuff,” Joe said. “It’s just a great

But being a family business, means setting the business aside at times and enjoying paradise.

Joe said, “We still find time to separate work and family. I mean, you must, you've got to have some fun. It can't just always be work.”

In addition to Jes, Joe and Suzanne are the parents of two other adult children and the grandparents of two. They enjoy being on the beach, riding bikes along 30A, boating, airplanes and enjoying great wines and food with family and friends.

A self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, Jes has an auto racing license and enjoys skydiving. Residing in Rosemary Beach, Jes can be found running on the beach or at one of his favorite spots around town.

More often than not, business does easily mix with pleasure.

“We just try to make it fun,” said Joe, “we have happy hour every Friday afternoon from 4–6 p.m. with our next-door neighbors, Panhandle Getaway. So, they invite their owners over and we celebrate clients who are coming in for the week. We just try to live the life.”

“If you’re going to sell the lifestyle you have to live the lifestyle, right?” said Suzanne. 

For Harriet Crommelin, running a restaurant is a family affair. Though she doesn’t have kids, this slim, blueeyed 70-something-year-old counts her 67-member staff as her “foodie family.”

“People want to work here because I’m their mama,” she quips. “They are my children.”

Unlike the menu, the friendly staff at Cafe Thirty-A in Seagrove Beach, Florida, rarely changes. General manager David Kessler joined in 1996 and many of his original staff are still on the books.

Chef Timothy Williams, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, relocated to Panama City Beach in 2018 to join Cafe Thirty-A as executive chef after amassing 25 years of experience working for Hilton Hotels in Miami and high-end restaurants in Atlanta.

Loyal patrons have made Cafe Thirty-A an award-winning local favorite for nearly three decades because the dining experience remains consistent.

“It’s excellent food, a welcoming atmosphere and we treat everyone as friends and family, which they are,” Crommelin said.

A daughter of the South, Crommelin is no stranger to the food and beverage industry or hard work. In 1982, she began channeling her passion for food and cooking by opening her first restaurant, Kat and Harri’s, in her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. In 1994, she began building Cafe Thirty-A. She sold Kat and Harri’s in 1995, headed to the Gulf Coast and opened the doors to her second successful restaurant in June of the same year. She had no idea she was the female pioneer of 30A’s culinary scene.

“I didn’t think about what it meant, I just worked hard and did it,” she said.

Like its proprietor, Cafe Thirty-A is welcoming with an understated sophistication. Crommelin describes it as “casual fine dining with a neighborhood feel.”

The eclectic dinner menu is seafood centric with a coastal Mediterranean twist. Ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Some of this owner’s favorites are the Roasted Beet Salad; Pan Roasted Snapper served with a warm tomato-corn-and-poblano salad, heirloom tomato salsa, and crispy kale in pink grapefruit butter; and for dessert, Warm Rum Raisin Apple Bread Pudding

served with cinnamon ice cream and topped with Kentucky bourbon sauce.

In addition to an extensive wine list, there is a hearty bourbon and spirits menu. The cocktail menu features 20 thirst-quenching creative concoctions such as, The French Kiss, The James Bond and the Seagrove Beach Breeze. Head to the bar on Tuesdays and Thursdays to toast ‘Tini Night with $6 martinis.

Cafe Thirty-A is a chic venue for special occasions. The Fishbone Room is an elegant private room for 30 to 80 guests or reserve the entire restaurant for a special event for up to 350 people.

Crommelin’s nurturing nature extends well beyond those she employs. Every December, Cafe Thirty-A hosts an annual Christmas Charity Ball to support Caring and Sharing of South Walton and in the spring, it caters Soiree on the

Bay hosted at the Dugas Family Estate to benefit the Children’s Volunteer Health Network.

“It’s important to give back to the community that supports us. So many people can’t do it, so those of us who can, should,” she said.

Like any family, Cafe Thirty-A has endured tough times. Just three months after the doors opened in 1995, this chic cottage-style 30A staple weathered Hurricane Ivan. About 10 years later the Great Recession hit, followed by the BP oil spill disaster in 2010. Then, 10 years after that, the global Pandemic.

Still, after 27 years, Cafe Thirty-A stands tall in an enduring spirit.

As for its plucky proprietor, you can find her sitting at the bar taking the day in stride while enjoying the Tuna Tartare — and always surrounded by “family.” 

Visual artists have always been part of the Corcoran character and, over the years, the company has dreamed up indelible brand campaigns featuring the work of some renowned creators, including artist Kari Moden and photographer Annie Leibovitz. And this year, acclaimed illustrator Simone Massoni joins the conversation.

The impish 42-year-old, who draws raves for his relentlessly clever contributions to Vanity Fair, GQ, The New Yorker and others, started interpreting the Corcoran personality in a series of smartspot illustrations back in 2018. When the company inaugurated its franchise business last year, Massoni was right there, creating fresh illustrations for each new affiliate. And like the magazine and advertising work that has earned him accolades, Massoni’s Corcoran drawings capture the moment with wry wit, optimism and cheeky street smarts.

“Simone’s work shares the spirit of Corcoran in so many ways. It’s colorful, playful, but sharp,” said Christina Chuo,

Corcoran’s senior creative director. “His style complements our brand perfectly.” Massoni first came to New York as an aspiring musician but quickly discovered his true gift. He lives in Italy most of the year, but his illustration work brings him to New York for months at a time, and he savors those stints as a seasoned local. His illustrations are active and iconic, at once reverential and impudent — stylized images of familiar buildings and still lifes of Barneys handbags, bagels with lox and the famous Anthora paper

coffee cup. There are knowing nods to New York life, too, love letters to New Yorkers — a camera-toting King Kong tourist putting a ladder to the Empire State Building, for instance, or a harried urbanite hailing a cab a la the Statue of Liberty.

“You can see the city in these drawings by seeing the little details of my comings and goings,” said Massoni. “I saw it. It’s a compliment to me if you say you can see the city through my drawings. New York is my city.” 

This really hits home with me, because I was exactly their age when I first found the theater,” said Nathanael Fisher, his blue eyes misty. “That’s when I began to find my voice, my place.”

He shared this personal reflection while an Emerald Coast Theatre Company audience gave a hearty standing ovation and several bouquets to 44 young, local thespians after the rousing final performance of “Newsies: The Musical.”

The full-length production, performed on the main stage within the 17,000-square-foot converted performance space located in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin, capped ECTC’s ninth annual season. Nathanael frequently gets choked up when he talks about the ECTC. It’s personal. And literally a dream come true for its founders, Nathanael and Anna Fisher. Nathanael, who holds a Master of Fine Arts in acting, is the producing artistic director and Anna, who earned a Master’s in theater studies, is the associate artistic and education director.

With generous individual and corporate community support, they have clearly established ECTC as a well-respected professional theater company serving the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast with quality performing arts programs. Since ECTC formed in 2012, educational theater productions like “Newsies” and community outreach programs have reached 28,331 children in Okaloosa, Walton and Bay counties.

“There couldn’t be a time where self expression through the performing arts is more essential for our children,” Nathanael said. “Many of the schools in our community cannot offer the theater arts and so we set out to supplement that void with our professional education programs, and this year we have even more offerings for adults, too.”

With a dedicated board of directors, a talented full-time staff of eight and a loyal legion of volunteers, ECTC lives its twofold mission to provide both educational and professional offerings to Northwest Florida communities. Professional theater efforts are focused on thought-provoking productions and collaborations, as well as entertaining cabarets for adults, while the educational outreach includes after-school and home-school programs, touring and staged Theatre for Young Audiences productions, summer camps, workshops and classes.

The Fishers are pulling out the stops for Season 10. They have launched a special

campaign called “The heart of ECTC is you.” More than 30 ECTC friends, fans and supporters turned out to share their testimonial story on video of why they love being a part of the ECTC tribe. It will be revealed at a special seasonkickoff fundraising event in September. In addition to celebrating the milestone, the Fishers hope the campaign will raise funds, awareness for ECTC and draw in some new faces.

“The heart of ECTC is you!” Anna piped out. “Sure, you can come to see a show, but it’s so much more than that. It's an ephemeral event … each night is unique and special, and to come and experience this one-time only moment with your friends, neighbors, and the actors on stage — you can't get that sitting at home on your couch or on a screen.”

As they mark the milestone of their 10th anniversary season, they are proud their dream to open a theater in their native home state has come true, but this creative couple is quick to say that they are far from finished.

“Our mission is never accomplished,” said Anna. “There always is a leveling up. There always is expansion and growth. Yes, I think it's important at the 10-year mark to stop and take stock, really be grateful for how far we've come and grown, but there's just so much more that we can do.”

Nathanael agreed, adding, “As we look at what we're celebrating, and we hear from our community, it’s like they are organically inspiring us and challenging us that there is more for ECTC to accomplish. We're not done dreaming.” 

From the original deep-dish pizza and worldfamous hot dogs to the Cubs, White Sox and Bears, Chicago’s big city appeal is much owed to its classic food dishes and committed sports fans.

But Corcoran Urban’s managing partner, Matt Farrell, has experienced all that and more as a Chicagoan.

Among a handful of the largest cities in America, the 234-square-mile city of Chicago houses 77 neighborhoods, and “each one is filled with its own unique culture and rich history,” said Farrell. “You can travel a mile in either direction and feel as though you’ve traveled to a different city.”

And the city makes the most of its large footprint, with several famed skyscrapers offering some of the nation’s most iconic architecture. With 600 parks scattered throughout the city, it’s easy to forget the concrete jungle of steel-tower trees for a day amongst nature.

Farrell said the city has a fair mix of luxury high-rise living downtown, single-family homes within the city and larger estates in the surrounding suburbs. But as he’s noted, trends are leaning away from the “McMansions,” as he calls them.

The pandemic spurred an interest in the city’s suburban markets, too, and Farrell said that a “continued stream of people into the city is led by a very strong tech hub in Chicago.”

While McMansions are out, small-scale luxury is still in demand in the city. And Farrell said that “luxury here is truly more affordable than in markets like New York or Los Angeles.”

“Many of our international clients have chosen Chicago as their second home because we can offer stable investment, an easy lifestyle and accessible luxury.”

The Magnificent Mile, with upscale shopping and fashion outlets, trendy hotels and posh restaurants, attracts luxury buyers from all over.

And, he said that “unnecessary size and maintenance don’t have the appeal that proximity to restaurants, theaters, sporting venues all offer. Our market is much more about access to experiences and lifestyles than a ‘bigger is better’ mentality.”

And the city is teeming with such experiences.

Meet Carrie Pizitz

On a morning stroll along Florida’s Scenic Highway 30A, Carrie Pizitz and husband Richard noticed a once-vacant street suddenly had a sales office and one house. They ventured down to the sales office to investigate. In August of 2018, they broke ground on one of the first homes built in Grace Point, securing a secluded retreat from their busy lives in Birmingham, Alabama. In September of 2019, they moved in.

“We co-owned a condo with my husband’s uncle for 30 years in Destin, but it got too congested. We bought a condo in Watersound which brought us to 30A and the lifestyle we love,” said Pizitz.

But after six years at Watersound, they wanted something different.

“We never wanted to be in a big community, and we were already members of the Watersound Beach Club — it made Grace Point the perfect choice,” she said. “We love the small community. We text with our neighbors to see when everybody’s coming to the beach, or if we can borrow a parking spot. There’s a connection we never had at our condo.”

The private access to Watersound Club was game-changing for a family tired of loading a cart to bring bags or groceries

to the elevator to get to their condo. Pizitz elaborated, “We have grandchildren now. It's so easy to pack up the wagon and pull everybody over. If you forget something, you can easily get back to the house because it’s two minutes away.”

Her husband, Richard, has two sisters who own the house with the couple, and sometimes Carrie’s father-in-law comes to visit.

The ease of direct flights and a single-family dwelling facilitate the gathering of the generations. And the bonus of two master bedrooms with one on the main floor keeps her father-in-law from having to climb the stairs. They also customized the third floor into an additional living space for when the siblings, their children and the grandchildren make their way to the beach. They put time and thought into making their house a home that accommodates everybody’s needs.

“One of the things I love is our awesome kitchen — the appliances are topnotch,” Pizitz said.

“I love the marble in the bathrooms. And, of course, Matt Fuller brings to the table beautiful cabinetry and very pretty beams his family makes. We looked at a lot of Matt's houses prior to building, and we found a house where they did these gorgeous wide-plank floors. We chose those floors for our house, and they’re so beautiful. Matt’s woodcraft is something you don’t see very often.” 
