R E F L E C T I O N
Furniture Design in this semester having through online due to movement control in Malaysia. It is very different than my experience during Furniture Design in Diploma. I learned the joinery through the making process. However, it is totally different for this semester because students are not allowed to go back to campus for the workshop. In the first assignments for joinery sketches, I learned the joint and connectors from things around me. Deep observation of the product is really needed while sketching the products. Then goes to the mass production furniture design assignment. Creativity and logical thinking have to apply in the assignment. Not only that, my groupmate and I also focus on the packaging for easy delivery purposes. The invisible city is the last assignment for us, and the most interesting one. I really enjoy while making the detailing of the device model and try to make it moveable but failed. Through this module, I have learned a lot about joineries and materials used for furniture in the industry. Furniture design is not only to design a box as a table, but a lot of detail and process to learn. It is definitely helpful for students to have a basic concept idea before stepping into the industry. Idea exploration is important for a designer too. So that, the products will be keep improving and lead the fashion of furniture. I feel great to have the learning experience although online learning is really hard. It will be an unforgettable experience during my degree in university.
