Food and Fiddle Fortnight 2nd - 18th Oct Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire will once again provide the scenic backdrop for the annual Food and Fiddle Fortnight which takes place in venues throughout the valley. Organised by Visit Royal Deeside, the festival brings together local food producers, businesses and musicians to showcase the area’s culinary and musical talents. Running from Friday, October 02 until Sunday, October 18, Food and Fiddle Fortnight features more than 50 events – some of which are free to attend. The festival’s programme – which is being added to on a daily basis – includes food demonstrations, farmers markets, live music sessions, a bagpipe breakfast, a Land Rover safari with barbecue lunch, a guided walk punctuated by live fiddle music, and an opera dinner. Many of the area’s cafes, restaurants and inns are also putting on special menus for the festival.

8 - 9.30 pm Family Quiz Scottish Tapas Night thursdays 8th and 15th oct 50p donation per person for the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People to take part in the Quiz, £3.50 per Tapas menu selection. No reservation required but early arrival advised due to limited seating for this popular event. Relax in the Keiller Lounge and order a selection of Scottish Tapas dishes, and enjoy an evening of fun with quiz questions to challenge the whole family. Highest group score takes home the prizes! Quiz proceeds will go towards the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People, our in house charity that focuses on children and young people, working to improve the quality of education and the provision of health care to relieve suffering and equip individuals throughout the local area. 8 -11 pm Live Entertainment with Alan Frew friday 16th oct A talented singer/songwriter from Ayrshire and a regular fixture at the festival circuit having played at Belladrum, Wickerman, Northern Roots, Celtic Connections, Eden Festival and many more. His cover sets consist of contemporary pop/indie, blues, folk, Americana and can be tailored to suit any audience. Alan has played supports to Paolo Nutini, Texas, Ben Otewell, Martin Carthy, Martin Taylor and the Fureys. His music has been played on BBC radio throughout the UK with multiple appearances on STV and Sky Arts.

10.30 - 4pm Food Farm Experience Days sunday 4th and monday 5th Oct Come to Wark Farm, Cushnie, for a day to walk, eat and talk your way round organic farming and food production. Starting at 10:30 we will take a walk around the farm, looking at our native breeds of cattle and sheep, the different crops grown to feed them and the ins and outs of what it means to farm organically as well as the work we do to encourage wildlife. An informal sit down lunch in the farmhouse will follow this, featuring Wark Farm meat and vegetables from our kitchen garden. The afternoon will be spent in the on-site butchery where we will demonstrate the butchering of a lamb carcass, discussing the various cuts that can be prepared, how they can be cooked and why different parts lend themselves to different recipes.
