INTRODUCTION
it was year 2 of the Pandemic when we decided to try and avoid the pitfalls of public health risks by offering an alternative format for our annual print exhibition. So we invited all members of the Visual art group to submit three high-res digital images, one of which would be selected to appear in this special edition of Visual art magazine. in addition to the usual feature of the top ten selections we offered to devote a full page to each selected picture. and to move us out of our comfort zone, all entries were to be in square format only. This then, in our centenary year, would be the printed exhibition.
To our delight the response was resounding. We received a record number of entries and some objections: ‘My camera doesn’t take square pictures’ and ‘This is dictatorial!’ yet the result vindicates the approach. i hope you will be just as impressed as we have been. Think square!
