BOTOX The Pro’s and Con’s of Botox Treatment
At what age should you start getting Botox? Most patients typically start using Botox at age 30, some even in their mid-20s. It’s possible to benefit from preventative Botox treatments starting as early as 25, but before that, the odds are low that you could have built up enough lines to worry about Can I wear makeup after Botox?
Can Botox make you look older? Having Botox too young can make you look older, as it could actually accelerate the ageing process. Excessive use of Botox over a long period of time can cause muscles to waste away

It is fine to put makeup or cream on immediately following a Botox injection, but do so gently without massaging or tugging at your skin as you do so. Do not massage the treated areas for at least 24 hours after your injections to avoid spreading the medication to unintended muscles in your face What not to do after Botox? Here are some things you should and shouldn’t do after getting Botox injections Avoid rubbing and massaging the treated area for 24 hours because you don’t want to make the Botox spread to other unintended muscles Avoid strenuous physical activity Avoid consuming large amounts of alcohol
Can Botox ruin your face? Botox doesn’t actually erase wrinkles, any line that is present at rest, whether it is etched in frown line, or a deep wrinkle, is not going to disappear with Botox, it is not an iron Is Botox Safe long term? GSMOOTHIE DIET
ive Your Body A Boost With The 24-Hour Fat-Burning
written by Andrea Cresswell
Have you been struggling to keep up with healthy eating over the festive season? Do you think the only way to make up for indulgence is to eat salad and vegetables for the next few months? Wrong! Now you can make up for bad eating days with a simple, science-based oneday smoothie diet. Shift gained fat and give your body a boost to make it even more efficient at burning kilojoules.
Starving yourself ? Don’t do it!
Starving yourself may seem like the best idea after a weekend of excess. But doing this is incredibly unhealthy and puts your body under a large amount of pressure. In the long run, it will slow down your metabolism and make it even harder to stay in control of your weight. When losing weight, you have to be sure it’s fat you’re losing, and not muscle. Muscle tissue is what makes a difference when burning kilojoules. Starving yourself means you lose muscle tissue and that slows down your metabolism. Be gentle on your body. Sticking to healthy smoothies for 24 hours can be a good idea. But remember: before following this 24-hour diet, it’s important to consider

your own health needs. If you have any concerns, consult your doctor before embarking on such a plan. Don’t forget, not all plans suit everyone The low-down Our one-day shake diet, devised by dietitian Nigel Denby, feeds your body with protein and nutrients to make sure you don’t lose any muscle tissue. It can also make you even more efficient at burning fat. You can use our plan every week to regularly lose about 1-1.5kgs. he 24-hour smoothie diet The rules: Decide which day you’re going to use as your smoothie day and get all the

ingredients you would need. Don’t be tempted to skip one or more of your shakes. Starving yourself is counterproductive. On your shake day, only have your three shakes and two litres of water – no tea, coffee, alcohol or snacks. Don’t kid yourself. You can’t eat whatever you want all week and then use this one-day shake diet to put everything right. You need to eat healthily six days a week and use the one-day shake diet to boost your weight loss. You can use the oneday shake diet occasionally to make up for an indulgent weekend.
T Don’t be tempted to buy in smoothies. They can be full of sugar, and you need all the nutrients and protein in the homemade shakes to help maintain your muscle tissue. How to get going: One day a week, choose three different shakes – one for breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner. That’s it! One-day shake recipes for the smoothie diet To make all the shakes, put all the ingredients into a blender and blitz for 30 seconds until smooth. Brilliant Ways To Break Your Bad
Habits For Good written by Tammy Jacks
Change bad habits by starting with these tips: Make micro changes At this time of year, we want to break bad habits, wipe the slate clean and start afresh. We aim high by signing up for Dry January, a new gym membership and the latest diet. But it’s a mistake. “Doing too much, too soon, wears out your willpower muscle and sets you up for failure,” says Dr Heather McKee. “Habits are a
complex mesh of behaviours; you can’t resolve them all at once. You must work on untangling them one by one until the habit knot is sorted.” Start with the bad habits that are easiest to change first, as research shows these smaller, simpler actions become habitual more quickly. “Each time you accomplish a micro-change you get a sense of satisfaction, and this spurs you on to stick with your goals,” adds Heather.
Do it
Set yourself one small change each week. For example, plan a healthy snack at 4pm to avoid the biscuit slump, or aim to walk 100 more steps on your fitness tracker each day.
Ask why
Our resolutions often look like this: lose 5kg, give up red wine, keep the house tidy. Sounds sensible, right? But if you want to stay on track, generalised goals won’t help. Why? Research shows we’re more likely to change our habits when motivated by ‘intrinsic’ goals linked to higher values. Heather says, “Examples could be that you want more energy to put into work, or be a positive role model for your kids.” Intrinsic, here, means ‘good for the soul’. Heather says, “Examples could be that you want more energy to put into work, or be a positive role model for your kids.” Intrinsic, here, means ‘good for the soul’.
Do it Ask yourself what improving your health or eating habits will help you achieve. How will it help you feel? What type of person will it make you? Have a plan Willpower alone rarely works, says Heather. But, having a plan does. Known as ‘implementation intention’, a plan helps you anticipate triggers, and figure out other ways of dealing with them.

If you stress eat, ask, “What would be a healthier way to deal with this stress?” Do it Next time you have a run-in with your partner, rather than reaching for wine or food, take a few deep breaths, play music, or call a friend instead. Learn from the lapses Research shows that people who manage to stick to long-term health goals have a ‘learning’ view of failure. When they fall off the wagon, for example, or overeat, they don’t berate themselves but instead look at the circumstances and learn from them. They pick themselves up and start again. “Most of us think we can simply go from A to B without deviating from the path,” says Heather. “But life doesn’t work that way. Improving our bad habits is more a process of trial and error and learning what works for you.” Do it Next time you give in to temptation, don’t waste energy beating yourself up. Instead, examine why you gave in. How were you feeling? Tired? Bored? Emotional? Hungry? Identify triggers If you’re drinking too much coffee, a typical ‘ingredientled’ approach would be to switch to decaf or exert willpower to resist drinking coffee. “However, this surfacelevel change will become too difficult to maintain,” states Heather. “Eventually, you’ll be back to drinking the same amount of coffee, feeling like you’ve failed again.” Do it Look at what’s triggering your coffee habit – in what circumstances are you drinking it, what time of day and where? Ask what it means to your routine. If you’re using it to stay awake, maybe you need to work on your sleep. It’s not a sprint “Research tells us it can take
IS S U U .C O M /R O YA L R O U G E M A G A Z IN E | JUNE 2020
66 to 122 days to break or make a habit,” Heather points out. Consistency is key with habit formation. As time goes on, it gets easier. “Once a habit forms, it no longer uses up your willpower, and then you don’t have to think about it.”
Set
yourself a routine, say,
two days a week you go to the gym at 8am. Put your gym kit or trainers by your bed as a ‘trigger’. It takes the wrestling with your willpower out of the equation. Find joy We’re more likely to stick with a healthy habit we enjoy. “‘Want to’ goals are more likely to be achieved than ‘have to’ goals,” claims Dr McKee. Why then do we order kale salad when we think it tastes like cardboard? Because we think it’s good for us – but
it’s not if we can’t stick with it. So, ask yourself, “What could I eat that I actually like?” Do it Focus on how good a habit makes you feel and you’ll increase your chances of sticking with it, whether its the glow you feel post-walk, or the virtuous feeling from practising yoga.
Do something else Consider the context of the habit you’re trying to break and do something else. “So, if you always have a glass of wine while cooking dinner, rather cook a big batch on a Sunday morning when you won’t want a drink, then just warm things up for a while to break the habit?” suggests Helen Foster. Do it Ask yourself what the glass of wine gives you – and whether you can find it another way. “Maybe you hate cooking and it’s your treat for doing it. What else could help you unwind?” says Helen. “Try playing your favourite music loudly while you cook instead.” Be determined We often blame a lack of willpower for the inability to make a change in life. “It’s as if it’s a commodity we either have or we don’t, but that’s not true. Everyone has willpower,”
says Helen. “Think of it as determination under another name – it makes everything easier to stick with.” Do it Decide where you need to direct efforts; stay focused. Be clear on what you want to achieve.

Expert Claims This Simple Thing Is Key To A Healthy Relationship written by Ashton Kirsten Relationships are unique, complicated, and ever-changing – they can be hard work. Maintaining a relationship can feel challenging and overwhelming at times. But science claims that we don’t need to be doing fancy things all the time if we want to have a healthy relationship. Believe it or not, the key to a healthy relationship may be simpler than you might think We chat to author Mark Manson about unlocking a happy long-term relationship. t’s not a new-age therapy or couples class. It also doesn’t involve grand gestures. Instead, ‘being boring’ together could help you be more content in the long run. Three cheers for a night in! A healthy relationship is being boring, together According to Mark, relationships could benefit from being “as boring as possible”. Even though that might sound a bit strange, he’s got a good reason for saying that. Yes, you read that right. Mark
encourages ‘boring’ downtime to solidify your relationship. Speaking to Business Insider, Mark said, “ That sounds really weird to people but if you think about it, a really happy 80-yearold couple that’s been together for 60 years, the reason that they’ve been together
for 60 years, it isn’t because they took all these private jets and they had these crazy vacations and ‘Oh my God, look at their pictures.’ ” Minteture eos et que nis aut autessit que voluptatur sam fugia nestio destis aut recea pro qui ulparum endus venem is et parchit,

RELATIONSHIP
He added, “It’s because they were able to be boring together. They are able to spend year after year, sitting around the house, talking about the same boring stuff, watching TV, watching movies, cooking dinner, and it went fine. There was nothing exciting, there’s nothing blowing up, there’s no huge drama, and dishes flying.”
SET YOUR OWN PACE
It seems that the happiest couples have simple, quiet lifestyles where they can enjoy each other’s company without feeling the pressure to be ‘interesting’ or constantly jetting off on fancy holidays. This is a huge relief considering the unrealistic expectations set by social media and the Age of the Influencer. Mark reckons you don’t need to be spending thousands, and you can store your ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’ attitude for something other than your relationship. So staying in, chatting about your day over a glass of wine, can help your relationship, and not hurt it. A healthy relationship isn’t always an expensive one. Revel in your run-of-the-mill shared interests and watch your favourite movies after a long week. If your relationship’s in a bit of a rut, you don’t need to book a trip to Thailand just yet – promise.

WARDROBE
FOR DECLUTTERING YOUR
WARDROBE
FROM CLUTTERED TO SORTED – IN NO TIME AT ALL!
Let's be honest, wardrobes can be stressful affairs. And no matter how many pieces you own, it's easy to feel like you never have anything to wear. That's why it's so important to dedicate some time every now and then to going through the clothes have hanging up or stuffed in the back of drawers and see what you actually use. If it's been a while since your last wardrobe clean out, you might rediscover items you totally forgot about, which feels a bit like winning your own personalised lottery. Alternatively, time can also help give you a bit of perspective, making you wonder why you ever held onto particular pieces at all.

Just do it! This is the kind of advice that seems helpful, but for someone who needs to declutter their wardrobe, it can seem like a very daunting task. So here are five easy steps to help simplify the exercise of creating more space in your wardrobe. 1. Sort and donate Go through your items of clothing one by one and remove anything that is stained, ripped or faded. Donate anything that can still be worn to your local church or a charity. 2. Consider the seasons Okay, we know some items might be seasonal, but be honest with yourself: if you haven’t worn something at all during the last 12 months, you’ve pretty much covered all four seasons, so get rid of it!
It’s unlikely that you’ll suddenly start wearing the item now. 3. If it doesn’t fit, let it go This tip applies especially if you haven’t cleaned out your wardrobe for some time. Whether it doesn’t fit at all or is just ill-fitting, give it to someone who can use it. 4. Stop looking for the perfect match You know what we’re talking about: that one item that you’re definitely going to wear, once you find something that goes with it. When you shop, rather do it the other way around – look for items that will complement your existing wardrobe, rather than buying something and then having to look for yet another new item to complement the first purchase. It will save you
space – and money! 5. Pick a number If you can’t get yourself to throw anything away, decide on a number. Be brave and choose 10. Go through your wardrobe and choose any 10 items to put in a bag to give away. You will be surprised how easy it is using this method. You might even find yourself choosing 15 or 20 for the next round! PHOTO: iStock/Grosescu Alberto Mihai Pin this article for later! For more, follow Good Housekeeping on Pinterest. 6. Store everything in the right place "Keep knitwear folded and flat. Also dry it flat to avoid pulling and deformation", Virginia says.
WARDROBE
7. Don't forget your shoes
"If you have a lot of shoes in boxes", Virginia says, "tape pictures of the shoes to the outside of the box, so you know what’s inside without having to go through several boxes." Elika adds: "Boxes are ideal because they prevent dust, and cardboard works well because then they can breathe". 8. And look after more expensive items If you've spent all that money on something fancy, you better make sure you take proper care of it, Virginia says. "Keep designer bags in their dust bags and stuff them from the inside to avoid deforming."

DEBT RECOVERY BY STEVE ISAACS
Getting into debt is easy, however, getting out of debt is the hard part of it all and in the end it will be well worth it Living debt-free is the greatest financial gift you can give yourself, but you need a plan and the motivation to stick to it. This 10-step plan helps you take control of your debt, starting right now and the first steps that you can do this month to get you going on the path to debt recovery, is to plan along these lines and then stick to that plan each month, until you are living debt free. Tackle the first six steps, then move onto the final four steps :-
1. Get your head right
Like any other hard thing in life, the first step is committing to the process for the right reasons and here are two good reasons and you also need to tell yourself, you won’t go back there :● When you owe money, you’re not just paying back capital. You’re being charged interest every month you are in debt – and with the hike in interest rates, interest is now costing you more than it did before. ● When you are in debt, you are robbing yourself of the money you could be using each month or saving for your future.
2.
Total up all your debts
Make a note of every debt you have, including your credit card, bank loans, retail accounts, car finance and home loan – even the R200 you owe your cousin! You will firstly need the right information iro the debt you owe, so if need be call the institution that you owe money to that will enable you to plan correctly (write down the answers) -then ask yourself these three questions./ How much is outstanding? ● What is the interest rate that I am paying? ● How long until the debt is paid back at this rate? ● Can I pay in more than the minimum monthly repayment and are there any penalties for doing so? FINANCE
3. Decide on your method you will use for repaying the debt There are two tried-and-tested methods that deliver the best results for paying back your debts. They are: 4. Do a budget Write down all your monthly expenses, including rent, medical aid, insurance, school fees, food, transport, entertainment, clothes and so on. Then look for every opportunity you have to tighten your belt. Could you buy yourself lunch at the office less often? Could you share a ride into work with someone and halve your petrol costs? How much could you cut back on entertainment? Could you buy cheaper food at the supermarket? If you find that you are already stretched to the limit of your budget, consider ways to earn extra income – like renting out a room in your home, or selling baked goods to colleagues at work. Take or make any opportunity you can to save money or earn a little extra.
5
. Keep track of it all
At month-end, put your plan into action. Pay back the minimum instalment on all Put all of this information into your accounts. Then, put any additional an Excel Spreadsheet or a wall chart, or just in a notebook. Keep money into the debt with the smallest outstanding balance or the highest track of each lender, amount owing and each monthly instalment. Every time you interest rate – depending on whether you have opted for the snowball or avalanche make a payment, update each of these method. Congratulations, you have taken blocks. the first step towards financial freedom! 6. Make the first round of payments under Now keep on going, every month. your debt-busting plan
44 |
IS S U U .C O M /R O YA L R O U G E M A G A Z IN E | JUNE 2020
And now follow the next 4 steps in the months to follow 7. Kill your lines of credit As soon as those loan balances start looking healthier, you will be tempted to spend on credit again. Don’t allow yourself that temptation, remember all your hard work paying these debts back. And as you finish paying each debt, close the account. Be very disciplined about this. If you are still thinking “but…” then you are not fully
committed to the process and you will end up right back where you started. 8. Consider overpaying on your asset finance as well Your home loan and car finance would probably come out last on the additional repayment list, whether you were using the snowball method or the avalanche method. These debts are slightly different to the others, because they are funding assets and generally have low
9. Consider starting to save The interest you earn on saving is almost always less than the interest you are charged on credit. This means that if you are saving while still paying back credit, you are losing money. The most financially sound approach to take is to use all your extra money to get out of debt first and only then start saving. However, in practice, this doesn’t always make sense. For one thing, people tend to need the security blanket of having savings, even if they are paying back debt. For another, you might find that you need to spend money while you are paying back debt, and if you don’t have savings, you’ll have to go into even more debt and start the cycle over again. So go ahead and save if you have the budget to do so, but don’t forget that getting rid of debt is your priority.
COVID-19 interest rates. This is not to say that you shouldn’t try to reduce or get rid of them – you absolutely should – but that you don’t need to prioritise early settlement to quite the same extent as you have with all your other lines of credit. That said, it’s astonishing how quickly you can reduce the term of your home loan and the interest you pay if you can pay just a little bit extra each month.
10. Stay debt free, for good Paying back outstanding debt is a gruelling process. But it feels great once it’s done. Whatever you do, don’t start the cycle over again. If you need something, it's better to save for it than to go into credit. Try to adopt a policy of going without, rather than spending money you don't have. Congratulations on committing to getting out of debt and to living that way in future, being debt free. You’re in this for the long haul, but it will be worth it in the end. NOTE: If you have taken on more debt than you can afford to pay back using these methods, then you may have to consider debt counselling, as those people have way more experience & expertise in helping people recover from debt. The impact
OF THE NATIONWIDE
lockdown ON MENTAL HEALTH By Shani Reddy The South African Depression and Anxiety Group says it has received calls from people who are undergoing lockdown by themselves and who do not have family or friends. (Photo: Unsplash / Alexander Krivitskiy) Less Mental health experts warn that the global Covid-19 pandemic and the national lockdown can have a negative impact on people’s mental health and well-being. The measures put in place by President Cyril Ramaphosa, effective 26 March 2020, restrict people from leaving their homes (unless for essentials such as groceries, medical help, and petrol) and from gathering with others. The lockdown may sound like a short period of time, but isolation can lead to increased levels of anxiety and depression, and feelings of fear, agitation, anger, loss, and loneliness, says clinical psychologist Dessy Tzoneva. Dr Colinda Linde, a clinical psychologist in Johannesburg, said that the terminology alone strikes fear among individuals. “There’s a good reason the term lockdown makes us feel so powerless and trapped; it’s a term commonly used in prisons, where the inhabitants are in that position,” says Linde. Linde explained that “no one wants to feel they have no choice, and all of these factors contribute to a general level of discomfort and unhappiness in a situation like this”.
“Economically most people have taken a serious knock; many cannot work online and are sitting waiting for the possibility to work (and earn) as soon as this period ends. Sitting with the worry about how you are going to survive, even if it’s just you or one family versus being an employer of many, is also taking a toll and raising levels of anxiety and depression.” Casey Chambers, the operations director for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) says the group has seen an increase in the number of calls since the start of the lockdown. “We are getting more calls from people who are feeling more anxious, more down, and even saddened as they are seeing the [number] of cases and deaths increasing every day,” says Chambers. Sadag is also concerned about people who live alone. “We have also been receiving calls from people who are doing lockdown by themselves and who do not have family or friends,” says Chambers. Moreover, Sadag has seen an increase in calls from people who live in an abusive household who are stressed and worried about their safety. Chambers says that the group is trying to help such people with safety plans. Sadag predicts that these cases will increase over time as we get deeper into lockdown and see an increase in the number of people infected. “We are anticipating an increase in the number of calls and we are trying to build capacity as we deal with the influx,” adds Chambers. A primary concern for Sadag is access to mental health services. These services are now being reduced because of the lockdown and the Covid-19 guidelines that hospitals are required to follow. According to Chambers, these restrictions do not help an already underresourced area.

Dr Gloria Marsay, a Sandton educational psychologist, says that it is not just those who struggle with mental health disorders who will feel the impact of Covid-19 and the isolation. Those who live alone will find it especially difficult to cope during this time and differences in sociability play a role in how people will cope with the current situation.
Linde points out that “introverts will find it easier than extroverts, and people with a strong spiritual life seem to be able to rely on this as a daily and comforting practice”. Although living alone is not easy, people need to make a conscious effort to reach out and use their social networks and support systems. Unfortunately, however, the poor and the elderly are more at risk as there is a lack of public resources in South Africa. Mental Health Professionals are hoping that this pandemic will change that.
Marsay explains that “provision for dealing with mental health in South Africa has been seriously under-resourced in the past”. “Hopefully this pandemic will alert policymakers to the need for improved skills and strategies to be taught in schools and to be disseminated during this lockdown period in as many practical ways as possible. Social and Emotional Skills are paramount for sustained mental health.”
“While online contact can’t really replace the human touch, it is still a powerful means of remembering you are not alone,” says Linde. “It is important to create and maintain a routine,” says Marsay. The structure of routine gives a sense of safety and support. Marsay suggests trying the following to manage your stress levels and to avoid being stuck in a rut: Get up and get dressed at a designated time; Get some sunshine (this can be done by standing at a window or going into your garden); Eat enough and as healthily as possible; Get enough sleep and stick to a regular bedtime; and Get enough exercise (you download one of the many apps available to exercise in your own home). Humans, by nature, are resilient. “We have a basic instinct to survive. It is our duty as people living within communities to help each other in whatever way we can,” says Marsay.
Lockdown does not have to mean solitary confinement. Reach out to friends and family, and above all, stay safe. Psychiatrists and psychologists are offering telephonic or virtual consultations. Your healthcare provider will be able to recommend someone for you to talk to.

It is important to reach out to friends and family telephonically and online where possible.

Model: Yvette Bergh Photographer: Nepenthe Ohm The average person enjoy and is happy being with others such as family and friends. For the average single person, every minute spent alone, makes them less happy. For a person with a mental illness who is already experiencing anxiety, depression or trauma, being in lockdown increases their emotional and physical wellbeing substantially. The Corona virus pandemic has brought enormous uncertainty to all people, including those with existing mental health issues. A wide range of symptoms such as low mood, insomnia, stress, anxiety, anger, irritability, emotional exhaustion , depression and PostTraumatic stress might be experienced. Strategies to address these issues are seeing a professional such as a psychiatrist , or psychologist, the use of prescribed medication, doing something constructive, sticking to a routine, eating healtily , doing exersize and connecting with others on FaceTime or the telephone .
The effect on the mental health of many people including those with already existing mental health issues, will remain with us for a long time even after the Covid19 lockdown. JUNE 2020 | IS S U U .C O M /R O YA L R O U G E M A G A Z IN E

Thermal Temperature
Nails
These nails are fascinating. The trick is in the Thermal polish which changes color because it contains leuco dye; the polish changes color in response to the heat and cold. These prove that nail-care isn’t just grooming anymore, it is self-expression. These nails change color based on your body temperature and the elements around you. If you are feeling cold, your whole nail will change color then at night, when you are warm and snuggled up in bed, your nail color is guaranteed to change again. It is also possible to get an ombre effect when your hands get chilly.

Formal dress code Ideas for 2020 FASHION FORWARD
By Zandile Vinolia Ngozo
A formal dress code in the 21st century can be quite tricky, especially since mixing professionalism with style is a necessity, but worry not, because we will make sure that you look your best in all your interviews, meetings presentations and work functions. The trick is to keep it conservative, simple and flattering. Here are some ideas we compiled for you:
FORMAL DRESS CODE FOR THE OFFICE
Model: Thabisile Zikhali
It is important to choose clothes that will be comfortable because you are going to be wearing them the whole day. The easiest option is always trousers/suits because they are comfortable, they allow you to move around and sit. Formal dress code for winter In winter, the goal is always to look professional, stylish and warm. Instead of wearing a collard shirt, go for a turtleneck instead and change your pumps to heeled boots. Add warmer and heavier fabrics and invest in a smart coat.
Formal dress code for interviews
“Dress for the job you want. When it comes to dressing up for interviews, remember to keep it simple because simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Make sure that your outfit fits like a glove but is not too tight; go for minimal accessories and a signature handbag, put on some heels to complete your polished look.

EIGHT:WHY AM I EXERCISING BUT STILL NOT LOSING ANY WEIGHT AT ALL?
Many of us put “lose weight” on our list of resolutions. But how many actually manage to shift the flab? Merely really wanting to lose extra kilograms isn’t enough to get to rid of them. You need to adopt a healthier lifestyle and then stick to it if you’re to remain slim and trim. Still, what happens if you do that but still aren’t losing weight? What if you’ve started running almost every day and are now drinking more water and nothing’s happening? In this case, you need to realise that exercise isn’t the magic weight-loss bullet. As it turns out, if you’re wanting to slim down, it’s all about what goes on your plate. Weight, in versus out Think of it this way. Every single kilojoule you put into your body comes via your mouth. But only a part of them is burned off via exercise. In fact, the majority of kilojoules you consume –
58 |
IS S U U .C O M /R O YA L R O U G E M A G A Z IN E | APRIL JUNE 2020 2020
between 60 and 80% – will be burned up when you’re not doing anything at all. This is your metabolism in action. For most people, just around 10 to 15% of their kilojoules will be burned via actual exercise. While this is definitely better than nothing, it’s definitely not equal nor close to the percentage of kilojoules you’d take in Something else to keep in mind? It takes a lot of hard work to burn kilojoules via exercise and all this can be undone with just a few bites. As an example, if you weighed 55 kilograms and jogged 5 kilometres, you’d burn around 1 100 kilojoules. This would take around 35 to 45 minutes to do, but then you could put them straight back in within 3 minutes if you ate a Magnum ice cream. Add a pizza to that and you’d suddenly way over your deficit. In fact, you’d then have to run more than 10km to burn that off.
When you still can’t lose
If you feel like you’re very aware of what you’re eating but still aren’t getting results, consider chatting to a doctor. There might be an underlying condition as to why you’re unable to shift stubborn fat. Often, it’s insulin resistance. This is when your body no longer uses the sugar in your blood into energy. Instead, it’s converted straight to fat. Fortunately, this very common condition is easy to diagnose and can be reversed with a doctor-designed low GI diet. Another way to get rid of fat that refuses to budge, even when you’ve hit your goal weight, is via knife-free body-sculpting procedures. These include painless fat-melting laser and light treatments like VelaShape, iLipo Ultra Laser Lipo and Exilis Elite. You could also consider Cryolipo Fat Freezing. This involves freezing the fat pockets so that they become crystalised, disrupt and are expelled from your body the same way you’d metabolise fat through diet and exercise. Another way to target a specific area is via a combination
treatment like RAIL-THIN. This involves injecting an all-natural fat-dissolving solution into the area you want to blitz. Next, a radiofrequency treatment is administered to help break up the fat deposits. Again, the fat is then metabolised as per usual.
The bottom line with weight As the saying goes, abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. So while exercise is great, never underestimate the importance of a weight loss-focused diet if you’re wanting to lose. Should you find you’re still struggling, reach out to an expert who can help you see where you’re going wrong. Also, if you’ve reached your goal weight and find there are still wobbly bits you’d like to trim, a non-invasive body-sculpting treatment could be just the ticket for your best body yet. These dusty streets would prove to be very influential to the person MSA is evolving into. This is where his love of music was developed and honed, majorly influenced by his uncle who had an extensive collection of

At that time it was very difficult to penetrate the industry, due to the fact that an artist had to be signed to a big record label in order for them to be recognised. He has opened for big acts such as Skwatta Kamp, Teargas, HHP, Zola 7, Mandoza and many other artists. On the producing front, MSA is one of SA Hit makers who has worked with Ice Prince, Stone boy, 2 face, Eindo, L tido, Blaklez, Kwesta, Buffalo Soljah,Dj waxy, and the list continues. He is well known for his signature MSA on the Beats and has made several hits over the past few years. MSA aspires for his music to be well received worldwide and win numerous awards both locally and internationally. He wants to build a successful brand where music and fashion are synonymous with his name and become a musical giant on both the producing and rapping front. 5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Feel
Required To Justify Yourself
In the back of every person's mind, a subconscious substrate of all thought and emotion is mixing around, either clear and functional, or tangled up and suppressed. In other words, all the things that happen to us throughout the day and the way we are treated by everyone, it builds up in the back of the mind and really has a profound effect on us. Sometimes it's even a delayed reaction. You might be the more kind and giving person in a relationship of friendship, and when that isn't reciprocated, it could leave a genuine, long-lasting feeling of being taken advantage of: that type of thing really builds up. This article should help explain why you have every right to do whatever you

want in life, even if your friends and family initially don't respect your right to choose your own path.
In life, it's objectively necessary that we work as hard as we can to earn these paper notes we use to buy food. 1. It doesn't matter who is It's certainly true that taking "right," it's your life the path of going against There is a such thing as the "grain" of the system objective morality, but when and rejecting school may it comes to your life path be difficult for some, but and decisions you make, some of us are simply not you're the only person who destined for the mainstream is correct: it's your choice. path at all. When someone tries to People who go their own coerce you into following a way deserve the respect path that your gut and your and support of their family intuition does not feel, that's and friends, not persistent, just what the situation is: pushy and disrespectful coercion. attempts to persuade them Make no mistake, someone to go on a different path. can be as polite and kind Some people have no as they want, but they're concept of what respect still trying to coerceyou to truly is, and if they follow some extent if they're trying mainstream culture, they to insist you take a path in may have no self respect life you don't want to, like either. working toward a college degree for years.

2. You don't necessarily owe anyone anything When people try to act like you owe them something, or get you in this position where you're subservient to them in subtle ways, that's really not right. Of course, there's nothing wrong with co-dependency and intimate closeness in whatever kind of relationship you would like, but when people try to treat you like this without offering anything in return, there's a problem. Why do people even care what you do in life? When people are told to mind their own business and respect your right to live however you want, it's healthy. It makes you feel free and strong as you should be, cleansing you of the repressed feelings you may be afflicted with from growing up in public 4. Pointless authority crushes free expression What's that feeling you get, when in the back of your mind you feel hesitation about doing something because of some authority? You might not even be breaking any laws or rules, but a feeling of hesitation, clutter is present in your subconscious, just about something you want to do that you should have every right to do. What is that? It's the consequence of excessive authority, a culture of stringent regulation, and this psychologically damaging culture of regulation may be designed to do just that. Free expression is severely hindered by authority and unnecessary regulation, and the consequences seem to far outweigh any potential chaos caused by a lack of regulation. To solve this problem, that tangled subconscious, the feeling of hesitation you shouldn't
school and in the system. 3. Is everybody right about everything? Everybody who tries to tell you what to do, what do they really know? What do they know that you don't? Absolutely nothing most of the time: depending on those who you surround yourself with and where you grew up, there may be all kinds of people around you trying to tell you how to live your life. It's no exaggeration to say it's psychologically damaging, hindering to one's self-esteem and free expression, the free flow of all thought and inspiration, to be constantly told what to do and how to live life.
even have, you might have to break out of it and make a point to never hesitate. Never fail to assert yourself, never fail to do what you want with morality and respect with you, and that cluttered feeling should start to heal. 5. Communication is a product of respect It's certainly true that a healthy level of communication and explaining your reasoning for doing things in life is conducive to a good friendship, and a really healthy relationship. However, are you really obligated to explain your reasoning for everything? No matter what kind of pressure the people you know place upon you to do things a certain way, you are your own person. As a general rule, maybe the amount you communicate your reasoning to people should be based on their level of respect for you. Why even explain what you're doing in life if people are going to disrespect
you? Or you could take the route of explaining anyway, because that's what you want to do, regardless of their reaction. In any case, doing whatever you want in life with consideration to your own morality is a freeing, cleansing thing. In conclusion, there are a lot of things in life these days that seem specifically designed to hinder the free expression of the human spirit. Asserting the will to live however you want doesn't have to be any extreme, hedonistic thing, or anything that conflicts with respect and consideration for the ones you love: it's about their respect for you. You deserve respect and the ability to live life how you want, and if the people around you love you, depending on the circumstances they should appreciate what makes you happy.
