JOHN RUTTER’S CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

Ravel Le tombeau de Couperin Grieg Piano Concerto Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5

John Rutter Conductor Melanie Marshall Mezzo-soprano Farnham Youth Choir

Christoph Koenig Conductor Valerie Tryon Piano Christoph Koenig

Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin serves as a colourful curtain-raiser to Grieg’s Piano Concerto, a great war-horse of the repertoire and performed tonight by Valerie Tryon. Modelled on Schumann’s Concerto, the work is coloured by Grieg’s interest in Norwegian folk music, and has even survived Eric Morecambe’s comedy sketch featuring ‘Andrew Preview’! The young Christoph Koenig is already Music Director of two major European orchestras and is sure to add his enthusiasm and charisma on stage as he takes the helm to conduct Tchaikovsky’s wonderful Symphony No. 5.

A Christmas concert not to be missed! The inimitable John Rutter joins the John Rutter Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Farnham Youth Choir for a festive selection of Christmas music. John Rutter’s carols have delighted audiences across the world; tonight’s programme is no exception and guarantees to start your yuletide celebrations in style. John Rutter will introduce your favourite sing-along carols, including Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and O Come, All Ye Faithful.

Beethoven Egmont Overture Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5, ‘Emperor’ Beethoven Symphony No. 3,‘Eroica’

Paul Daniel Conductor John Lill Piano John Lill

In celebration of John Lill’s 70th birthday and his illustrious career, this all-Beethoven programme features the majestic, exquisite and sublime in a concert conducted by Paul Daniel. Nicknamed the ‘Emperor’, few introductions have to be made as John Lill performs one of the most grandiose of piano concertos. Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and ‘Eroica’ Symphony offer a crowning opening and a memorable finale respectively.
