Signed on 4th of July. ALS in English, signed “Lafayette,” one page, 6.5 x 6.5, July 6, 1807. Handwritten by the Marquis de Lafayette, referencing the anniversary of America’s independence before launching into a discussion of his crops. In part (translated): “I have received your kind favour dated on a Happy day, 4th July. Accept my best thanks for the note you have been pleased to inclose. I hope it will prove very useful to my friends. What you have told me of the Rutabaga leads me to think I might after the Wheat Harvest go on the same field...If you are of the same opinion will you send me some seed with an instruction, only for an experiment.” In fine condition, with light scattered staining and wrinkling. Volunteer’s certificate for the “Bataillon des Filles Saint-Thomas” of the “Infanterie VolontaireNationale,” issued in the early stages of the French Revolution and signed at the conclusion in ink by the Marquis de Lafayette as commanding general.
