Disney Studios, 1955) Exquisite original preliminary panorama concept background painting by Eyvind Earle from Lady and the Tramp, showing the famous candlelit table in the alleyway behind Tony’s Restaurant from the memorable ‘Bella Notte’ scene. This preliminary concept differs from the film’s final version in that the table lacks a tablecloth—perhaps Earle envisioned Tony dramatically laying out the checkered cloth before serenading the dogs during their romantic spaghetti supper. Accomplished in gouache on 30 x 12.5 artist’s paper, the highly detailed painting boasts all the hallmarks of Earle’s production work—a refined and well-selected palette, superb use of light, and dramatic, yet well-composed, perspective. From the glow in the door frame to the textured brickwork, no small detail was overlooked in the creation of this masterpiece. Annotated on the reverse with animation sequence numbers. In fine condition. Starting Bid $300
Disney Studios, 1955) Wonderful original preliminary panorama concept background painting from Lady and the Tramp attributed to Eyvind Earle, showing a hammock suspended between two trees in Lady’s well-to-do Connecticut neighborhood. Accomplished in gouache on 30.25 x 12 artist’s paper, the lavish painting boasts the hallmarks of Earle’s production work: organic shapes and textures (thick-trunked trees, leafy canopies) compliment the rigid constructions of man (a concrete-block wall, a white picket fence); sunlight bathes the well-composed scene; and quaint ‘painted lady’ Victorians line the peaceful gravel road. Annotated in the lower border with sequence numbers. In fine condition. Starting Bid $300

London flying lessons with Peter Pan and Mary Blair
642. Mary Blair concept storyboard painting from Peter Pan. (Walt Disney Studios, 1953) Wondrous original con-
cept painting by Mary Blair of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy, Michael, and John soaring over London en route to the island of Neverland. Accomplished in tempera on 9.75 x 9.25 artist’s board, the scene wonderfully portrays the moment that Peter and Tinker Bell teach the Darling children to fly, leading them high above the city fog before coming to rest on the minute hand of Big Ben. The characters, silhouettes limned by the light of the moon, are centrally placed around the huge glowing clock, with hues of blue and purple adding a dreamlike quality to the magical scene. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners and minor wear to board. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Van Eaton Galleries. Starting Bid $1000
