Animation by Bob Thomas. First edition. NY: Simon & Schuster, 1958. Hardcover with dust jacket, 8.5 x 11.25, 181 pages. Signed and inscribed adjacent to the title page in blue ink, “To Frances, Merry Christmas, Walt Disney.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Phil Sears Collectibles, and a typed letter from Carolyn Suding, who worked in Walt Disney’s office and forwarded this book to her cousin, Frances Welsh: “Hope you’ll enjoy the book. See, it’s been autographed by ‘Uncle Walt,’ too!” Starting Bid $300

508. Walt Disney Document Signed. DS, signed “Walter E. Disney,” two pages, 8.5 x 11, February 15, 1960. Document from a “Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of WED Enterprises, Inc.,” which confirms the election of the following officers: Walter E. Disney as Chairman of the Board, William H. D. Cottrell as President, Diane D. Miller as First Vice President, Sharon D. Brown as Second Vice President, and Royal Clark as Secretary and Treasurer. Signed neatly at the conclusion in black ballpoint by Disney, and countersigned by Clark as secretary. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA, and by a certificate of authenticity from Phil Sears Collectibles. Starting Bid $300
Personal check, 8.25 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed prominently by Disney, “Walter E. Disney,” payable to Elizabeth Hardcastle for $1068.64, May 22, 1950. In fine condition. Encapsulated in a PSA/ DNA authentication holder. Elizabeth was the wife of Albert Hardcastle, a professional songwriter originally from Tyne-and-Wear, England, who immigrated to the United States and was successful in placing several of his compositions with film and television projects produced by Disney and others. 510. Walt Disney Signed Photograph. Vintage matte-finish 10 x 8 photo of Disney presenting a Mickey Mouse retirement award to the photo’s recipient, Fred Schlatter, the longtime gardener at Walt Disney Studios, signed and inscribed in the lower border in black ink “To Fred—with all best, Walt.” In very good to fine condition, with some staining to the surface, visible at an angle.
The recipient, Fred Schlatter, was the gardener for Walt Disney Studios, whose name appeared in the first issue of The Bulletin (January 6, 1939), an in-house Disney company newspaper that explained Schlatter’s amazing ability to concoct gags for the Donald Duck strip. Starting Bid $300

511. Walt Disney Signed Oversized Photograph. Large vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 photo of Disney holding a book and posing with his adorable miniature poodle, Lady, prominently signed and inscribed in black ink, “To Fred Schlatter, all best wishes, Walt Disney.” Permanently mounted and double-matted to an overall size of 16 x 20. In fine condition, with a small surface gouge to the background area above the dog.
Lady sometimes appeared with Disney in the introductions of his weekly television show, from which this image was undoubtedly taken. According to Disney: ‘Before Lady, we owned a large sized standard poodle and I used to think she was the only female in my family that really understood me. [Lady’s] small but she’s easy on the brick and brack. Round the house, she is a personality in her own right.’
