NATO Launches Entrepreneurs

Innovation

Challenge

for

The challenge is co-organized by the NATO Innovation Hub and the Defence and Security Innovation Hub. Addressing the dangers of electromagnetic pulse to societies and militaries is the topic of this year’s first NATO Innovation Challenge. The competition aims to tap into the minds of innovative people and teams to find new, creative and efficient ways for NATO to respond to security challenges and potential crises. The latest challenge is looking for solutions to prevent electromagnetic pulse damage, mitigate the effects on critical infrastructure and capabilities, and ensure rapid recovery. Entrepreneurs, designers, marketers, thinkers, engineers, coders, and inventors can participate. The winner will get stage-time at NATO events and access to contract opportunities. Registration is open until the 24th of April, and the award ceremony will take place on the 30th of May in Brno, the Czech Republic. Electromagnetic pulse – generated by a large solar flare or a weapon – could cripple systems reliant on electricity, from smartphones and ATMs to nuclear power facilities, hospitals and military command and control systems. Its enormous security repercussions are the reason it was selected as topic for this year’s NATO Innovation Challenge.

Digital Marketing Simplified – How to Build a Brand As a brand owner, you need a medium that can carry and convey your brand communications to consumers or other stakeholders. By Rakesh Raman While ‘brand’ has become a buzzword in the sea-like business world, most companies are still confused about the true connotation of a brand. So, what’s a brand? Simply put, a humdrum product or commodity attains the status of a brand when it delivers the value for money to its buyers. Moreover, a brand promises to deliver on its quality and value-for-money commitment and instills a high degree of confidence among a large number of consumers. When buyers have multiple product options, they prefer to buy a branded product instead of a no-name item. Thus, a brand creates a pull factor among the consumers who also get emotionally attached with it regardless of its price. Obviously, marketers would like to peddle a brand rather than a commodity. And a brand is not only about the buyers; it holds equal relevance for all stakeholders of a company – including buyers, suppliers, employees, resellers, investors, and others. It goes without saying that while buyers want to buy branded items, a supplier would prefer to sell to a branded company for assured payments. Similarly, employees would prefer to work for a brand because of its reputation in the market. It will be easier for resellers to sell a branded item and investors would pump in their money into a brand for higher returns. Then who won’t aspire to build a brand? All will and all do. But it’s an uphill task to build and manage a brand in a cluttered marketplace. Barring exceptions like Facebook, Google, Apple, and Microsoft which became global brands quickly after their introductions, usually an entire

generation of business owners would struggle to build a brand out of a common commodity. Then the next generation of brand owners can leverage the brand benefits for business growth. While building a brand, first you have to understand your own product or service and its relevance in the marketplace. Then you need to create brand messaging around your offering. Brand messaging will highlight the strengths of your product and its positioning in the market. Brand messages are the objectives that your product aims to achieve by fulfilling a market need. For example, a food products company can have a brand message as: “Helps you stay healthy.” This brand message will not appear explicitly in the company’s brand communications, but all its communications including ads, press releases, corporate speeches, etc. will be built around this message. Your communications can be for your buyers, suppliers, workers, resellers, investors, and others. Now you can define the groups of consumers whom you want to target with your brand communications. Say, for a garments manufacturer, the target group can be youth. A hospital can target seniors, a hotel can target business people, and so on. A brand needs to constantly communicate with its target groups of consumers with customized communications to increase the brand recall among them. As a brand owner, you need a medium that can carry and convey your brand communications to consumers or other stakeholders whom you want to engage with your brand. In a simple case, this medium can be air that can carry your message that you shout out about your brand. But your shout (or voice) has a distance limitation, as it can’t go beyond a few yards. To overcome this distance limitation, brands use traditional media like newspapers, TV, radio, events, or billboards that have wider reach. But it has been observed during the past few years that traditional media also has distance constraints for brands that aspire to go global by transcending geographical limitations.

Traditional media fails to cross certain local boundaries. Plus, more consumer eyeballs are now shifting from traditional media to digital media dominated by web and mobile channels. Obviously, brands that want to grow have no other option but to use digital media to convey their brand messages.

For Your Information Despite junk mails, email is considered the best form of business communications particularly for smaller businesses that want to cut traveling costs normally required in business deals. But email handling is a specialized job – a scientific art, perhaps. For smaller players, the right and wrong use of email can make or break their businesses – in that order.

IBM announced on March 18 IBM Blockchain World Wire, a real-time global payments network for regulated financial institutions.

IBM Blockchain World Wire Designed to optimize and accelerate foreign exchange, cross border payments and remittances, World Wire is claimed to be the first blockchain network of its kind to integrate payment messaging, clearing and settlement on a single unified network, while allowing participants to dynamically choose from a variety of digital assets for settlement. "We've created a new type of payment network designed to accelerate remittances and transform cross-border payments to facilitate the movement of money in countries that need it most," said Marie Wieck, General Manager, IBM Blockchain. "By creating a network where financial institutions support multiple digital assets, we expect to spur innovation and improve financial inclusion worldwide."

World Wire has enabled payment locations in 72 countries, with 47 currencies and 44 banking endpoints. Local regulations will continue to guide activation, and IBM says it is actively growing the network with additional financial institutions globally. World Wire provides a more straight-through model for cross border payments using the Stellar protocol that makes money transfers point-to-point in lieu of the complexities of conventional correspondent banking. According to IBM, it reduces intermediaries and allows users to accelerate settlement time often in seconds by transmitting monetary value in the form of digital assets, commonly known as cryptocurrencies or "stable coins." This simplified approach, according to the company, improves operational efficiency and liquidity management, streamlining payment reconciliation and reducing overall transaction costs for financial institutions. The network already supports settlement using Stellar Lumens and a U.S. dollar stable coin through IBM's previously announced collaboration with Stronghold. Pending regulatory approvals and other reviews, six international banks, including Banco Bradesco, Bank Busan, and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), have signed letters of intent to issue their own stable coins on World Wire, adding Euro, Indonesian Rupiah, Philippine Peso, Korean Won, and Brazilian Real stable coins to the network. IBM says it will continue to expand the ecosystem of settlement assets based on client demand.

How to Learn Business Communications for Corporate Growth There is an urgent need for corporates to adopt modern forms of business communications (e-mails, presentations, analytical reports, etc.) systematically.

TechWise Today

In today’s information-driven world, the need for formal business communications is more pronounced because businesses of all sizes are supposed to address different stakeholders in diversified geographical locations. Most businesses think that phone-based or physical presence-based communications are working for them. However, these traditional forms of business communications are among the main factors of inefficiencies in business operations because they are usually off-the-cuff without analyzing

the

situational

business

challenges. Moreover, as the traditional, old-fashioned communications are mostly ad hoc in nature, it’s difficult to keep track of the decisions thus taken in a business environment. As a result, there are activity overlaps, repetitions of work, loss of accountability, which silently add to the operating expenses (OPEX) of the company. Obviously, it doesn’t allow the company to be competitive in the marketplace. Hence, there is an urgent need for corporates to adopt modern forms of business communications (e-mails, presentations, analytical reports, etc.) systematically. To help businesses adopt formal business communications as an inevitable process for corporate growth, RMN Company offers its Business Communications training program for companies around the world. The program is conducted by Rakesh Raman, CEO of RMN Company. The training program covers evolution in the business communications landscape, the role of digital communication channels (Internet and web), language / communication rules, and hands-on training for the participants.

Environmental Damage and Pollution in India Appeal to Global Community A new IQAir AirVisual report, which covered 3,000 cities of the world, has revealed that Gurugram (a.k.a. Gurgaon) a suburb of India’s capital New Delhi is the most polluted city of the world while 22 of the top 30 polluted cities are in India. Also, Delhi remains the most polluted capital across the world. As pollution levels remain dangerously high throughout the year in India, all travelers including business executives, tourists, and diplomats need to exercise utmost caution while planning to visit India – particularly India’s capital New Delhi. Moreover, companies and investors must not come to Delhi for setting up their businesses or for trade conferences as pollution can harm them as well as their families. Foreigners who have come to stay in India for their work, should preferably go back to their countries. Or, at least, they should not keep their children with them because Delhi’s pollution is very harmful for children. Delhi Government, the Indian Government, and the pollution-control agencies are not taking proper steps to control pollution because most politicians and bureaucrats in India are corrupt, uneducated, and careless. The extreme pollution in Delhi is being compared to the poisonous gas chambers used by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust for the genocide of millions of European Jews. As pollution in Delhi / India is harmful to millions of Indians as well as people in other parts of the world with its impact on global warming and climate change, its lethal effect is equivalent to weapons of mass destruction. The Indian government - including bureaucrats and politicians - is causing serious environmental damage which is harmful for the entire planet. Therefore, the global community including the UN and the U.S. Department of State and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) must impose strict economic, diplomatic, and trade sanctions on India and Indian officials. Orange Social Venture Prize There are two contests in one: first, the projects compete for national awards against other projects deployed in the same country; then, the winners compete in an international competition, with a different jury and higher stakes. The three international winners get back home with prizes of €25000, €15000, and €10000. If you are looking for support for your social- and environment-minded project, apply through the registration form during March 4 - May 30.

Brand Promotion with Press Release Now with the proliferation of digital media channels, the rules of media communications have undergone a massive shift. In traditional media, for example, if your press release is not picked by a newspaper or magazine, you’ll never be able to convey your brand message to the target audience. But now it’s different. The advantage of digital media is that even if your release is rejected by newspapers and magazines, you can still reach out to audiences effectively by just posting it on the web through a blog, a release distribution service, social media sites, company’s own website, and so on.
