STAR BOARD Are you ready to get the most out of the upcoming year? Becoming the next STAR Board offers a unique opportunity where you will gain extensive knowledge on the real business world, develop your skills at an exponential rate and be surrounded by amazing people at university! The STAR Board is collectively responsible for the entire study association of the Rotterdam School of Management. It is the all-round experience in which you will be tested on all fields of business. Supervise and manage projects and people, display leadership, develop policy and strategy for a large organization, and execute this strategy. During this intense team experience, you will learn what your qualities are and how to exploit these within the team.
A board year is unique in the experiences it offers. You will expand your network by working together with the university, hundreds of companies, captains of industry, politicians, and other student organizations. The high workflow is one of the biggest challenges. Apply your knowledge and skills gained during your studies to manage this workflow. Besides a learning experience, a board year is incredibly fun to do. You will meet many new people, attend drinks and dinners, participate in exclusive events and make friends for life.

Chairman As the Chairman of the STAR Board you will be the leader of the group. You will support your fellow board members and be aware of everything happening within and around STAR. You are the keystone holding the group together and you enable your team to fulfill their tasks as good as possible. You will be representing STAR at numerous occasions internally as well as externally. The chairman needs to translate the board’s vision and mission into a policy plan. It is your responsibility to make sure this plan gets carried out and targets will be acquired. Are you curious, decisive, a social leader, motivator and up for this incredibly diverse function?

Secretary As Secretary of the STAR Board you will use your knowledge and overview of the entire organization to connect the dots. You will be the first contact person for all active and passive members, and will communicate with them. Because of this you have great influence on social dynamics within the association. Furthermore, all information gained from the contact with members is valuable input to get a feeling of relevant and popular topics among these members. The secretary is also responsible for having an overview of all activities during the year, making a year planning and keeping track of board progress. Will you be the key in the communication of STAR with its most important stakeholder?

Treasurer As the Treasurer of the STAR Board you will safeguard the financial health of the entire association. You are responsible for the financial administration including invoices, contracts, declarations, debtors and payments. You will guide the treasurer of every committee within STAR in setting budgets, updating them and approving expenses and investments. As Treasurer you are involved in every part of STAR, from committee financial progress until the implementation of long term strategic decisions. Do you have a structured way of working, can you say ‘no’ to overly enthusiastic people and can you handle the incredible amount of financial information?

Commissioner of Information Processes As Commissioner of Information Processes of the STAR board you will be primarily responsible for everything that has to do with data and processes within the organization. Effective information management is at the heart of every organization’s performance. Your main goal will be to improve these processes at STAR to make the organization more effective and efficient. Project Management with external parties supporting these system and internal parties using the systems is a large part of this function. There are always new initiatives being brought up which have to be guided and implemented. Will you maintain the STAR IT infrastructure while refining current systems and developing new ones?

Brand Manager As Brand Manager of the STAR Board you are in charge of managing all marketing related activities. STAR is a strong and the most wellknown brand at the Erasmus University. It is the task of the Brand Manager to maintain and improve the quality and value of this brand. You will create a marketing strategy and will be responsible for all outward communication from STAR to its many stakeholders. You will supervise the marketing team and guide every committee in the field of marketing. Next to that you will develop and launch campaigns for STAR as a whole. The STAR Brand Manager needs both structure and creativity at the same time. Can you capture STAR’s potential value and express it?

Commissioner of Academia As Commissioner of Academia you will be responsible for the academic development of STAR members. Organize and supervise large scale academic projects such as conferences, seminars and guest lectures. Manage your network of contacts and speakers by attending conferences and exclusive events to utilize opportunities. You will be the executive editor for Interface Magazine, the annual Agenda and the website. Furthermore, the Commissioner of Academia is responsible for the booksale, on both operational and strategic level. Finally you will be the expert on educational affairs, laws and regulations. Will you inspire all STAR members?

Project Manager MSC As Project Manager MSC of the STAR Board you will be responsible for the supervision of all 12 Master Study Clubs (MSC’s), 10 Studytrip committees and other subcommittees. Every Master program has its own MSC, which are part-time Boards consisting of current Master students. Supervising the MSCs is an incredibly diverse task, as they vary greatly in size, corporate culture and event portfolio. You will manage this experienced, diverse but also critical group of students. Besides that you will utilize and create opportunities to improve the cohesion and collaboration between the MSC’s. Can you successfully supervise the MSC portfolio while working with a large group of students with divergent and strong visions?

Project Manager BSC As the Project Manager Bachelor Committees of the STAR Board you will supervise, guide and support the most diverse range of projects. Social, academic and recruitment related activities are all part of your portfolio. You will manage many active members, help them to develop and grow in their functional position, teamwork and the organization of their project. Besides that, the project manager is responsible for the recruitment of active members. You need to have a structured and organized way of working and be able to divide your attention between many projects. Can you increase the success probability of projects while you make sure active members keep the learning experience?

Commercial Relations As the Commissioner of Commercial Relations of the STAR Board you are the money-maker of the board. The success of projects highly depends on the acquisition revenue you generate. You will create and maintain a commercial strategy for recruitment related activities of STAR. The Commercial is responsible for managing the contact with the most sought-after companies and biggest multinationals. This means not only focusing on short-term advantages but having a long term orientation. Besides that, you will provide guidance in reference to the commercial process of all committees. Strengthen relationships, create win-win situations and negotiate 5-digit contracts. Are you up for the challenge of managing and improving STAR’s relationship with the corporate world?

Practical Information Fulltime compensation The STAR Board starts in June to get introduced to your position, from August 1st 2012 until August 1st 2013 the STAR Board is fulltime. Because the board is fulltime, you will not be able to spend much time studying. Therefore, STAR will provide financial compensation..
Bachelor internship
The STAR Board is granted 15 ECTS and can be used as an internship. If you are selected for the board you can use this as your minor.

Selection process
After application closes, you will be invited for your first interview. This first interview will serve to get to know each other, talk about the project in general, and to manage expectations. If you are then invited for the second interview, we ask of you to prepare a function specific case which will be discussed during the interview.
