YOUR GROWTH IS OUR STRATEGY STAR Policy 2021 XLIIIrd STAR Board

PREFACE Dear Reader, We proudly present to you the 2021 STAR Policy. This policy is the result of multiple weeks of collecting feedback, evaluating the association, and thinking outside the box. The Policy is in line with STAR’s mission ‘to enrich RSM student life’. The XLIIIrd STAR Board would hereby like to thank all STAR Alumni, Active Members, Passive Members, and other students that have provided us with input, feedback, and guidance in creating the STAR Policy for 2021. Since STAR is run by students, for students, we would like to invite everyone in continuously providing us with feedback. Please feel free to contact us via info@rsmstar.nl. On behalf of the XLIIIrd STAR Board,

Thom van Dalen, Chairman STAR Board 2020-2021

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY STAR is acting in a rapidly changing environment. The needs of students and other stakeholders shift every year. By critically assessing these demands and listening to direct feedback from both Active and Passive Members, a policy for 2021 has been created. Within this policy, every new project or enabler contributes to STAR’s mission ‘to enrich RSM student life’ and contributes to our three key ambitions for 2025: 1. Be the association for RSM; 2. lead in innovation, and; 3. win with partners.

In 2021, STAR’s policy consists of six initiatives focusing on the following areas: − Launch events in collaboration with other associations to play into specific interests − Support students in choosing their Bachelor track and Master studies − Increase awareness for diversity among members − Increase engagement among Passive Members through new initiatives − Institutionalise processes that stimulate innovation − Redefine the commercial proposition to better fit student interests

EXPLAINATION

2021 OBJECTIVE

CAREER START SUPPORT

Be the main connector between RSM students and their future employees by (1) supporting them in their orientation process through offering career events across various industries and functional areas and (2) assisting them in job searching and opplications through offering training opportunities.

By the end of the year, we want to have successfully launched the Erasmus Recruitment Platform.

DEVELOPMENT & ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Support RSM students in enhancing their hard and soft skills by offering training opportunities. In addition, be an access point for RSM students for all their academic related needs.

By the end of the year, we want to be the second preferred supporter (RSM being the first) in both BSc track and MSc program orientation.

SOCIAL INTERACTION

Offer RSM students a way to connect with other RSM students by facilitating different activities to interact.

By the end of the year, we want STAR to be perceived as welcoming to all of our Passive Members.

SOCIETAL IMPACT & SUSTAINABILITY

Inform students about their possible impact on society and sustainability by including these values in our day-to-day business and events and organising events and revolving around societal impact and sustainability.

By the end of the year, we want to have offered education about diversity and inclusion. Also, we want to have a diversity and inclusion policy to guide STAR on its way to becoming more diverse and inclusive.

Offer RSM students a place to develop themselves on a personal, professional, and social level.

By the end of the year, we want to have created an environment where board members, full-timers, and Active Members are stimulated to share innovative ideas.

THE OBJECTIVE OF EACH VALUE DRIVER IS TO REALISE THE STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES (1/2)

CURRENT SITUATION

TARGET SITUATION

Launch events in collaboration with other associations to play into specific interests.

By trying to be the association for all RSM students, STAR struggles with reaching students with specific interests. Other associations become better at serving some of our target groups. Currently, the 20 partnered events do not have the intention of fulfilling the needs of students with a specific interest.

By partnering with other associations, we serve the needs of the students with specific interests. Having organised 5 new events together with other associations enabled us to serve target groups that we were not able to serve before.

Support students in choosing their Bachelor track and Master studies.

BSc students have to choose 1 of 5 tracks after block 10. STAR offers no guidance in this orientation process. The MSc admission is based on a first come first serve system, which means students have to apply from October onwards. STAR hardly offers support in MSc program orientation for current BSc students.

STAR is the second preferred (RSM being the first) supporter in both track and MSc program orientation. STAR offers orientational guidance to students by piloting at least 1 MSc and 1 BSc orientational initiatives. SMW has piloted 1 BSc and 1 MSc orientation event during the SMW 2021.

Increase awareness for diversity among members.

The LGBTQI+ community, non-Dutch nationalities, and other minority groups are underrepresented and this shows in the general perception of the association. The makeup does not represent the more diverse makeup of RSM.

We have offered education to our members about diversity and inclusion. Systems are in place to prevent and deal with discrimination. The increased awareness will attract a more diverse crowd in the future.

THE OBJECTIVE OF EACH VALUE DRIVER IS TO REALISE THE STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES (2/2)

VALUE DRIVER

CURRENT SITUATION

TARGET SITUATION

Increase engagement among Passive Members through new initiatives.

We assume there is a group of passives that is not socially engaged with STAR, for two main reasons: (1) passives who are unaware of the social initiatives and (2) passives who wish to be more engaged but do not know how, e.g. rejected applicants, “newbies”.

We have reached Passive Members who were unaware of the social side of STAR. Newly reached passives and wannabe engaged passives perceive STAR as welcoming to passives that would like to engage (more) with STAR.

Institutionalise processes that stimulate innovation.

We as an association are currently very satisfied with the status quo and innovation is not stimulated in any way. A result is the lack of institutionalised innovation, which in turn reinforces the sentiment. This lack of innovation threatens our leading position as the association for RSM students.

We have created more awareness about innovation within STAR, by setting up 3 new initiatives to institutionalise innovation. Therefore, STAR is an association where innovation is a part of the internal processes. We have created an environment where board members, full-timers and Active Members are stimulated to share their innovative ideas. By institutionalising innovation now, we hope to attract and inspire new and current members in the future.

Redefine the commercial proposition to better fit student interests.

STAR has been experiencing less and less acquisition that can be attributed mailings: average annual decrease of 17,77 percentage points since 2013/2014. This hints towards a decrease in interest of partners in one of the main foci of the current commercial strategy. Apart from this, RSM students have different fields of interests currently not served by the commercial strategy of STAR.

Our business model entails several ways to ensure a sustainable incoming cash flow that in turn allows STAR to best enrich RSM student’s lives. One of these ways is offering a portfolio to a set of partner, who represent a broad range of industries, sizes and cultures, catering to the interests of all RSM students. The decrease of acquisition attributable to mailings was mitigated by these efforts.
