Payroll deductions will begin immediately upon receipt of the Faculty and Staff Payroll Deduction Agreement form found on our website. However, depending on when you are paid, the deduction may not take effect until after your next pay period. Payroll deductions may not be used for locker/towel rentals, ONLY MEMBERSHIPS. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Administrative Office Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am - 7:00 pm and Friday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm at (618) 453-1277.

Climbing Wall Take the challenge by climbing the wall at the SRC. The 28-foot high indoor rock climbing wall has adjustable handholds which may be repositioned to alter the difficulty of the climb! You don’t have to be familiar with rock climbing or have your own equipment to use the Climbing Wall. All the equipment is provided. Climbing is allowed only when supervisors are present. Climbing instruction is available Monday-Thursday, 7-9:30 pm.

Information and Trip Planning If you are interested in reading about the “great outdoors,” you can browse through dozens of magazines and newsletters in the ARC lounge. Planning a trip? The ARC has a variety of reference materials which can make trip planning easier. The ARC has information on areas both within and outside of Illinois. If you are unable to stop by during office hours, you can call or fill out an information request card, and we will research the areas of interest and mail you the information.

ADVENTURE Resource Center Let the Adventure Resource Center (ARC) introduce you to many of the unique features of southern Illinois. The ARC Office is located on the lower level of the SRC.

Clinics and Trips The ARC sponsors a wide variety of FREE clinics. Orienteering, kayaking, and backpacking clinics are typically offered each semester. The ARC also organizes day and weekend trips to various lakes, parks, and wilderness areas.

OUTDOOR Adventure Mermet Springs SCUBA Diving, September 5

Ever wanted to try scuba diving? Join us at Mermet Springs for a trial dive. The highly-qualified dive staff will give everyone a taste of what diving is really like. The spring itself is beautiful enough to merit a trip just to see it. Swim with the fish and explore the underwater treasures like a Boeing 727 jet from the movie “U.S. Marshalls.” SRC Members=$35

Current River, September 11-13 Spend a weekend leisurely floating Missouri’s greatest riverway. The main objective for this trip is to rest and relax in the only true mountain spring river setting around and bask in the September sun. However, adventure is still present as you will pilot your canoe down gentle rapids. During this season the Ozarks offer the best views to accompany your float and the wildlife are seen everywhere. No experience is necessary – instruction will be provided. Prices include all equipment, transportation/fuel, trip leaders, and fees. SRC Members=$110

Ocoee River, October 2-4

Take on one of the most popular whitewater rivers in the nation! Pile into the raft with your guide on a 6 mile non-stop wave launching experience! The Ocoee is most recognized for its section of river used in the 1996 Olympic Games. Also, the beautiful Cherokee National Forest has great camping, hiking and sightseeing opportunities. No experience necessary. Prices include all equipment, trip leaders/guides, 2 nights camping, rafting experience and transportation. Group food planning will be handled at the pre-trip meeting. SRC Members=$155

Wilderness Survival, October 3-4

Test your survival skills on an extended stay in the wilderness. Expert guides will lead you through survival basics such as finding food and water, building shelter, establishing and using fire, common medical emergencies, and rudimentary navigation. Plus! You’ll learn neat tips and tricks of the wilderness from our very own Survivor Man Alex! He’ll show you how to stay alive when everything goes wrong. No experience needed; there will be some hardships. Price includes equipment, transportation, and survival experts. SRC Members=$40

Introduction to Rock Climbing, October 11

This is intermediate climbing at its finest. As a premier area for climbers, it will challenge your skills as much as you like with hundreds of available climbs. Even if you have never climbed before, we’ll show you how to make it to the top. Prices include all equipment, transportation/fuel and trip leaders. SRC Members=$30

Cache River Canoe, October 17

Not many have explored this area by way of water, but we love it. This is the only natural remaining cypress swamp in the surrounding area. We will snake approximately five miles through the area swamplands and world record cypress trees, visit the wetlands center, and the amazing Heron Pond. No experience needed for this excursion. Prices include equipment, transportation and guide for the day. SRC Members=$40

Illinois Caverns Caving, November 14

It may be cold outside, but Mother Nature keeps the underground nearly 60 degrees all year round. Join us as we hike, crawl, climb and squeeze our way through the largest cave in Illinois! Untouched by commercialism, you will explore passages formed millions of years ago and see the albino life that peacefully lives there from the light of your headlamp! Prices include all equipment, transportation/fuel and guides. SRC Members=$40

Limited spots available. Make sure to sign up early. No experience is necessary to attend these trips! Call 453-1285 for more details.

YOUTH recreation Parents’ Night In
