25 YEARS OF Maximum Value for Your Educational Growth and Development

In With the New! Happy New Year! Well another year has passed; we hope it was a good one for you. This time of year we tend to look back on the previous year to reflect on our successes, accomplishments and trials while keeping an eye on the future. How we can improve over last year is usually the goal of the review.

RSTI Additions................. 6 REGISTRATION................... 7 Cres certification.......... 8

This year RSTI is reaffirming its commitment to women’s health sciences. In addition to Bone Densitometry and Ultrasound Service training, RSTI has the most comprehensive Mammography Service Training programs available. We offer training on Film/Screen and Digital Mammographic Imaging systems. We now have all of the current digital mammography systems dedicated to supporting our industryleading imaging systems maintenance courses.

President’s Letter: 2010 A big look back. A bold look forward. Wow!

By the time you read this newsletter, it will be 2011. Another year of training will has successfully ended at your diagnostic imaging training center. It may just be me, but time seems to be flying by at a faster pace each year, requiring us to plan further ahead each year. We used to plan training out 4-6 months at a time. Now we plan it out 12-18 months at a time, and people continue to ask about the next schedule beyond those dates.

so long chalk boards

It is with some genuine nostalgia that in the last decade, RSTI has said goodbye to chalk boards and erasers. White boards and magic markers are on the endangered species list. They may never be extinct, but will be used less and less over time. Several years ago we migrated to digital presentations on power point and other software solutions on smart boards, that allow us to provide creative new ways of communication with no muss or fuss. The virtual markers on our smart boards show up as pixelated color representations that never really land on the board, so there is no erasing or mess involved. Being old school, I will always miss the chalk on our erasers and our hands‌ Today our classes are going through an evolution that is not only interesting to observe, but also provides RSTI with unique digital challenges to the core of each curriculum including Phase training. With the advent of digital imaging, both DR and CR, we are now capturing millions of pixels and creating images of body parts and internal organs, faster with acceptable, but reduced resolution. Innovation in software allows the radiologists to manipulate stored images in any way they need to improve diagnosis. An additional computer can take the analysis one step further, providing an onboard, immediate second opinion. This entire process can be done in 10-15 seconds, allowing more to be accomplished while taking less time and money. The difference

in digital image resolution versus film will have to improve over time, along with lower doses to make the entire digital experience more than acceptable.

The next 10 years

So where does RSTI imaging training go over the next decade? Breaking it up into bite size chunks of 2-3 years, here are our thoughts at this juncture: 1: Wet processor, film-based training has all but disappeared. Today our students want a real world, digital, hands-on experience that may include analog technology on X-Ray equipment, but coupled with CR minimally on the digital image side. 2: Right now RSTI uses a wet processor in Phase 1, but soon a CR in every lab will replace it. We will have the old technology on hand for teaching the fundamentals of x-ray and image quality, but currently more than half of our students do not work in an environment with anything but digital processors. 3: With the advent of replaceable digital detectors at a reasonable price, DR will be the driving force through the next 5 years for sure. As pricing comes down and repair/maintenance becomes affordable, every imaging facility will want the image quality enhancements and the improved workflow now being made possible. 4: This cycle will be sped up with new, younger radiologists pushing for technology that will improve diagnosis with lower doses of radiation. The end result is faster, more effective, and safer for everyone involved. During the last part of this decade we expect the science of molecular imaging to become a mainstream reality. If our timing is off, it is only because we have only scratched the surface on the possibilities of DR technology.

RSTI intends to coordinate the timeliness of its training programs with the ebb and flow of technology. In the last 5 years we have spent several million dollars getting ourselves ready to ride the wave of technological change with major changes in equipment and curriculum. Adjustments in our labs, with our instructors, and with our curriculum all come with costs that your training center has never had to incur in the past.

2:

Our goal is to continue to be the only leading edge hands on imaging training center in the world. Our mission is to provide that service at the best possible price, but more importantly to lower your costs in the field with the best education available.

Train your imaging service engineers and cross train your biomeds at RSTI. We are not the shortest or the cheapest, but we are the best at what we do. Provide us with equipment that we can add to our labs that your hospital no longer needs. Remember, 3-5 year old equipment is what your training center needs on a regular basis. Provide us some examples of how your RSTI training experience has saved you money, eliminated downtime and improved diagnoses.

RSTI Additions: 2010

Digital Mammography RSTI recently added more course offerings to our existing Digital Mammography training. The additions of the Senographe DS and Essential have bolstered our training on the very serviceable Senographe Digital product line. The Senographe product line includes the 2000d (released 1999), the DS (released 2004), and finally the Essential product (released 2007). The Senographe family has seen evolutions in detector size, software, X-Ray tube, gantry, IDC (Image Detection Computer), conditioner/chiller, and computer systems. The GE Digital mammography training will be available in 2 formats starting in 2011. First, each of the 3 products will be offered individually for customers that have only one of the 3 systems. Second, we will also be offering a GE MultiProduct Digital Mammography course for customers who have 2 or all 3 of the Senographe Digital units.

RSTI has also upgraded our Hologic Selenia Digital Mammography curriculum to a new 2 week format. The end result is a tightlypacked 2 week hands-on training course, producing a fully qualified service professional. RSTI feels this change will benefit the students with updated curriculum with up-to-date software, less travel time away from home, and lower travel expenses.

Current Digital Mammography systems training courses that we offer include: GE Senographe Essential GE Senographe DS GE Senographe 2000d Hologic Selenia

Digital Mammography courses RSTI will be adding in 2011 include:

GE Digital Mammography Family – Complete Senographe line includes the 2000d, DS, and Essential in one course!!! Siemens Mammomat Novation DR – Features include the W/Mo dual track anode, Syngo AWS (Acquisition Workstation) and Syngo MAmmoReport Diagnostic Viewstation.
