Grades 5-12 Musical Theatre Experience
Prepare ye for the timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love based on the Broadway musical that inspired a generation. An exciting opportunity for students in grades 5-12 to perform in a fully-produced musical in VT’s MainStage Jervey Theatre! This 5-week musical theatre intensive is designed for actors, singers, and dancers of all levels. Students will experience everything from auditions through a 5-show run.
For students going into grades 5-12 IMPORTANT: Rehearsals are daily, Monday - Friday from 1 - 4:30 p.m. beginning July 5. In this beginning acting class for adults, Preston will help actors to rediscover the inherent imagination that is in all of us. INSTRUCTOR: SCOTT KEYS “Some people make headlines, others make history.” The Living Newspaper is a form of theatre first developed by the Federal Theatre Project back in the 1930s. This class will explore current events with heart, humor, humanity and your own original voice. Poetry, prose, testimonial, song, monologue and scenes will examine the news of the day in an original, collaborative, theatrical way. Local, national or global; From the weather, to the White House, hot topics to pop culture, we look at and try to make sense of the world around us. Speak up, speak out, speak your truth. Pen to Paper! Beginning Playwriting for Adults

Students will have fun exploring games and exercises that develop character and acting skills. IMPORTANT: There will be no class on August 15th. The instructor will schedule a make up class.

Intro to Improv for Adults Yes And! Learn the basics of improvisational storytelling in this entry-level adult improv class. We will introduce concepts and play a variety of improv games, short-form and long-form. There is no class on Monday, August 15, 2022.

Mastering the Vocal Audition
INSTRUCTOR: MICHELLE KASANOFSKY In this 6-week in-person vocal class for adults, Michelle will help you get the best out of your singing audition. Class will include one-on-one time. Adult In-Person Workshops Master Class Workshop: Auditioning w/ Sides for grade 10 - Adults INSTRUCTOR: BENNY SATO AMBUSH Benny Sato Ambush, VT’s Artistic Director, will cover a range of topics including how to handle fear/nerves, getting your mind where it should be, working with readers, and various “how tos” when auditioning with sides (short scenes from the script). All participants will have a chance to work. They will also roleplay as readers, directors, casting directors, and producers. Audition side material will be provided.

Master Class Workshop: An Introduction into Finding Meaning in Plays INSTRUCTOR: PRESTON BOYD A play can be a mirror to life. In this introductory in-person workshop, students will look at key scenes, double meanings and how plays can reflect culture. The class may use a specific play or scene to illustrate, which will be sent prior to the workshop for students’ review.

Kelly was born and raised in Venice. She has a B.A. in Theatre from The University of Central Florida and began her teaching career right here at Venice Theatre. She started at VT as a student, then actor, intern, and assistant teacher. An award-winning actor, director and choreographer, Brad’s work has been seen across the U. S. and Canada. With a B.F.A. from the University of Oklahoma, he served as assistant director to Broadway directors Fran Soeder and Joe Layton, and was in a number of national theatre tours and commercials. A North Carolina native, Kris came to Venice Theatre via New York to play “Coalhouse Walker” in Ragtime and never left. As well as serving as General Manager and Director of Diversity, he is VT’s education liaison for area schools and organizations.
