Letter from the President Welcome to another exciting season of Hillcat softball! As Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university during the past 10 years, RSU has enjoyed dynamic growth across its entire enterprise, such as: • Increasing its student population by 60 percent while still maintaining a personalized attention to service that’s become RSU’s hallmark; • Adding new academic programs to meet the needs of Oklahoma’s business and industry; • Constructing two student apartment communities to provide the Tulsa metropolitan area’s only residential, public university; • Expanding and remodeling academic facilities to provide students with up-to-date academic resources; and • Developing strong ties with the communities we serve in order to fulfill our mission of education and service. RSU’s rapid growth also extends to our intercollegiate athletics, which are a relatively new addition after being reintroduced to campus in 2005. In only a few short years, our Hillcat teams have become a vital component of the university’s DNA providing an infectious campus spirit and a strong connection to the community. The university has invested in athletic facilities, including the new baseball/softball complex, Bushyhead Fieldhouse renovations, expansion and turf installation at Soldier Field and construction of soccer and cross country facilities on campus. We appreciate our entire student body for their support of these campus initiatives, including the student fees that funded the recently completed $4 million renovations of the soccer facilities and baseball/softball complex. Their support signals a strong vote of confidence in our athletic programs, but also represents their investment in the quality of life at Rogers State. As the RSU begins its first year as a NCAA Division II candidate, this season marks our last as a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). We have appreciated the high priority these two organizations have placed on promoting healthy values, developing strong character traits, and encouraging academic achievement among all student-athletes. These are core values for RSU’s programs, and we work daily to impress them upon our student-athletes. We appreciate your interest in RSU athletics, and we look forward to another great season on the diamond. Go Hillcats! Dr. Larry Rice

President Rogers State University

Letter from the Athletic Director Greetings from the Hill and welcome to the eighth edition of Hillcat Softball. The Hillcats are coming off their sixth consecutive 30-win season and trip to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament in 2012. Coach Mark Dicus and his staff have the Cats poised for another big season this spring. We are very proud of the team’s accomplishments and look forward to watching the Cats climb to even greater heights in 2013. We are also very excited to unveil our newly renovated Diamond Sports Complex. Originally opened in 2007, the ballpark has undergone over $1.5 million in renovations and new construction over the past two years. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to showcase this first-class facility and look forward to hosting state, regional and national events for many years to come. We appreciate your interest in our fledging athletic programs and hope you will join us at the ballpark on a regular basis this spring. The outpouring of community support we’ve received has played a huge role in our early success and will remain vital to Hillcat Athletics as we strive to raise the bar once again in 2013. Thank you for all you do in support of the Hillcats! Ryan Bradley

About RSU

u RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor’s and associate degrees.

Rogers State University: A Great Oklahoma Higher Education Success Story Rogers State University holds a historic position in the annals of Oklahoma higher education. Since RSU was accredited as a four-year university in 2000, enrollment has increased by more than 75 percent, earning RSU the title of Oklahoma's fastest-growing regional university A dynamic, progressive university with more than 4,600 students, RSU is widely recognized for its high-quality academic programs, distance learning options and high-technology learning environment. RSU is the only public four-year, residential university in the Tulsa metropolitan area. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's and associate degrees. Innovative new bachelor's degrees include applied technology, environmental conservation, military history, sport management and game development. Many students from northeast Oklahoma who plan to attend medical school complete their undergraduate studies through RSU's program in medical/molecular biology. And RSU enjoys a statewide reputation for academic excellence in its nursing program.

Distinguished Academic Achievements RSU received continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools without further required evaluation for 10 years - a rarity in higher education in Oklahoma and a major accomplishment achieved by few universities. This is truly a testament to the high academic quality of RSU. RSU participates in The Washington Center Internship Program, a nationally recognized program placing students with private, public, and nonprofit organizations in Washington, D.C. Students participating in the semester-long internship earn college credit while they gain "real world" experience within their field of interest and interact with influential leaders and policymakers. RSU is one of only three universities in Oklahoma to participate in this prestigious program.

2

About RSU Most RSU faculty members hold doctoral degrees or the highest degrees available in their fields from esteemed institutions across the nation, including Princeton University, Duke University and the University of Oklahoma. The university’s Honors Program provides an atmosphere where scholars can challenge themselves academically to maximize their college experience through specialized courses, student/faculty joint research projects, and a strong emphasis on service learning in the community. The President's Leadership Class (PLC), a four-year scholarship program that fosters personal and professional development, was designed for RSU students who have demonstrated leadership abilities. RSU also offers study abroad programs in Italy and Wales through the University's Studies-at-Large Program. The international study programs provide students with opportunities to see the world, learn about other cultures, and enrich their educational experience.

Growth in Learning Facilities The Centennial Center, which opened in 2009, has become the centerpiece of the main campus in Claremore. This two-level, 50,000-square-foot facility combines student development programs under one roof, serves as a central location for students to study and socialize and provides a focal point for the RSU campus in Claremore. The facility also offers ballrooms, conference centers, and meeting rooms for the community. A major expansion and renovation of Baird Hall on the Claremore campus was completed in 2010. The new Baird Hall has doubled in size and contains many of the leading-edge features associated with higher learning today, including classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning outdoors on sunny days. RSU opened in September 2011 a new student apartment community that doubles the number of students living on the main campus in Claremore. The $11.5 million project accommodates up to 255 students in a three-level facility, located across the street from the present university apartments. The new 87,118-square-foot complex is located just west of Soldier Field. Stratton Taylor Library, which opened in 2004, features distinguished collections, wireless Internet, study areas, reading rooms, computer stations and classrooms. u Baird Hall features a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning on sunny days.

About RSU

u RSU is Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university.

A Brief History of RSU RSU was founded in 1909 as Eastern University Preparatory School in Claremore. The school prepared the daughters and sons of area residents to attend college. Historic Preparatory Hall, known for its iconic gold dome, was the first building on the school's campus. However, the school closed only a few years after it opened. Taking its place was the storied Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA), which operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971. Known as the “West Point of the Southwest, OMA has an extensive register of graduates who became great leaders, both in military and civilian life. More than 2,500 OMA graduates served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. More than 100 graduates gave their lives in service to their country. In 1971, OMA closed and Claremore Junior College opened on the Hill, serving more than 400 students. The junior college grew rapidly in the 1970s, and by the time it was renamed Rogers State College in 1982, the institution boasted a variety of associate degree programs, distance learning capabilities, a new radio and television station and intercollegiate athletics. In 1999, the Oklahoma Legislature renamed the institution Rogers State University and charged it with seeking accreditation as a four-year university. Accreditation at the baccalaureate level was granted in 2000. Today, RSU is one of Oklahoma's fastest-growing universities, offering a wide variety of bachelor's degree programs to more than 4,600 students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville, Pryor and online.

Hillcat LIFE Programs

u The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship are addressed in the Champions of Character program.

Academic Development The Rogers State University Student-Athlete Academic Development (SAAD) program is designed to support Hillcat athletes as they strive for success in the classroom and reach their educational and career goals. The program provides academic support such as advisement, subject tutors, and learning groups for each RSU student-athlete. Study sessions are designed specifically for each athletic program, and student-athletes are given the opportunity to work with tutors trained in their particular area of academic study. The goal of the SAAD program is to help all athletes grow into responsible adults as they become upperclassmen and take initiative to be personally responsible for their education and their future. The Student-Athlete Academic Development program, led by Dr. Brian Andrews, is there every step of the way for all athletes, to ensure they are pursuing a degree that will support their personal goals and prepare them for life after college.

Hillcat LIFE Programs The Hillcat LIFE programs are designed to promote student-athletes’ success off the field or court. Each year, RSU introduces a variety of programs to enrich the college experience of its student-athletes, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and giving them information useful when making important life decisions. The following are some examples of Hillcat LIFE programs: Etiquette training: Student-athletes are instructed on proper dining habits, dating manners and courtesies. Each athlete is given a demonstration on the proper etiquette at formal meals. Drug and Alcohol Counseling: Student-athletes are made aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. They are given examples of athletes with promising futures who failed to reach their potential due to drug/alcohol abuse. “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time…” Seminar: This presentation attempts to enlighten student-athletes about the existing legal realities associated with various acts they likely deem benign and provokes introspection that will lead to more careful decision making.

5

Hillcat LIFE Programs Nutrition Counseling: A nutritionist meets with student-athletes to discuss healthy meal choices and life styles. Athletes are given an overview of different types of foods and how they affect the human body. Dangers of Gambling: Student-athletes are warned about the dangers of gambling addictions and also are warned against gambling on collegiate athletics, which is a violation of NAIA and NCAA rules. RSU athletics continues to expand its programs in order to provide a well-rounded education for all Hillcat athletes.

Champions of Character The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program is designed to instill an understanding of character values in sport, and provide practical tools for student-athletes, coaches and parents to use in modeling exemplary character traits. Launched by the NAIA in 2000, the Champions of Character program addresses character issues more comprehensively than any other national program for youth. The program currently reaches hundreds of thousands of students on nearly 300 college and university campuses in North America and extends into their surrounding communities. The NAIA has been informally teaching character development through athletics for decades. The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship are addressed comprehensively in the Champions of Character program. The NAIA Champions of Character program is an educational outreach initiative that emphasizes the tenets of character and integrity, not only for NAIA college students, but for younger students, coaches and parents in our communities. Coaches, parents, administrators and community partners all have a role in developing students of character. The NAIA Champions of Character program brings them training, guidelines and behavior models to create positive environments that promote personal growth and fun sport activity.

u Rogers State has annually been recognized as a NAIA Champion of Character since the inception of athletics.

“I have always dreamed of being a doctor, where I can help people and make a difference in their lives. RSU is giving me the chance to earn a bachelor’s degree that is perfect for pursuing medical school, while I can be active with campus organizations. Through RSU, I was able to get a summer internship with Grand River Dam Authority that gave me valuable real-world experience. It all adds up to make RSU the university I always wanted to attend.” KAITLYN LUNK Adair, OK Medical/Molecular Biology | President’s Leadership Class & Honors Program

2013 Softball Season Outlook The stats back up the Hillcat head coach’s praise of his senior shortstop as she finished last season with a .972 fielding percentage where she earned a SAC Gold Glove.

A season ago the Rogers State softball team finished with a 36-23 record but a Sooner Athletic Conference record of 9-17 and seventh place finish left Hillcat head coach Mark Dicus wanting more.

At third base Shona Guerrero returns for her second season at the hot corner for the Hillcats.

“Frankly we’ve fallen short the last two years,” said Dicus. “Not to make excuses we’ve fallen short.”

“With her and Fauchier on that side of the infield you kind of hope balls are hit to the left side of the infield,” explained the Hillcats fifth-year head coach.

Sooner Athletic Conference coaches voted the Hillcats to finish sixth in the seven team league. But a crop of newcomers joining an already veteran, experience laden squad has RSU’s fifth year head coach expecting big things from the 2013 Softball Cats.

With a .909 fielding percentage from the hot corner, Guerrero has a quick, accurate arm and good glove according to Dicus. “She’s an amazing defensive player pretty close up there to Brooks Robinson,” joked Dicus.

“This group is by far the most athletic group we’ve ever had and we’ve had some good groups,” Dicus explained of this year’s squad. “Not to put too much pressure on them but not only are we talented but we’ve got great depth.”

Backing up Guerrero will be Linsey Curtis a hard worker that brings power to the plate and is well known in the conference and the nation for her prolific home run hitting.

The self-proclaimed “Fab Five” returns for their fourth season on the Hill. The first recruiting class signed by Dicus in 2009 has won 105 games over the past three seasons.

At second the Cats will look to Iowa Western Community College transfer Cailin Simpson to step into a starting role. A slick defender that batted .344 with 74 hits and 55 RBI a season ago in the NJCAA ranks, Simpson will be backed up by Megan Williams.

Dicus discussed the “Fab Five,” “I can’t say enough about them as young people. They’re going to graduate, they’re going to be Hillcats true and true.”

Williams served as the Hillcats second baseman for most of last season but will look to add depth in the middle infield in 2013. Sophomore Tory Fitch can play both second and shortstop. Dicus likes the effort that Fitch continues to put in to get better.

Consisting of Ashlie Fauchier, Katrina Loy, Linsey Curtis, Ashley Dillman and Shelby Brogdon the “Fab Five” looks to leave their mark on the program in their final season. “We thought we’d get the job done a lot quicker and we haven’t,” declared Dicus. “It’s a special group because not only are they good softball players, they’re super people. They’re people you want to be around.”

Returning two-year starter Taran Threet and junior college transfer Toni Shurtliff will vie for the starting spot at first base. Threet started all 59 games for RSU in 2012 and batted .289 in 180 at-bats. Shurtliff joins the Hillcats from Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa where she batted .333 with 56 hits and 32 RBI as a sophomore last year. Dicus expects for both to see a lot of time on the right side of the infield.

Infield Returning for her fourth season at shortstop is Ashlie Fauchier, a three-time All-Sooner Athletic Conference selection. Last season she started all 59 games for the Hillcats, finishing top three on the team in 11 offensive statistical categories. It’s on the defensive end that Fauchier draws the praise of her head coach. “Fauchier is probably the best defensive player in our conference bar none. She is a highlight reel waiting to happen,” said Dicus.

2013 Softball Season Outlook

u Laura Fleck returns for her sophomore sesaon in the circle after winning 28 games in 2012.

After missing all of her junior season due to injury Shelby Brogdon returns for the Cats in 2013. Brogdon could see time at first base but is most dangerous at the plate with 20 homeruns in just two seasons and a slugging percentage of .586.

“If Fleck can get close to what she did last year the two will blend together really well and give us a one-two punch or a staff that will work together really well, handin-hand,” said Dicus. Dicus explained what Rios brings to the circle, “We look for great things from her and she can be a difference maker in the circle. She’s got great control and a variety of pitches that will compliment her arsenal all the way through.”

“Brogdon can go in and play first base and be the designated player some,” Dicus said. “She’s a great clutch hitter and someone that you can bring off the bench and she’ll deliver.” The lone freshman in the cast of Hillcat newcomers, Erin Patrick, is a hard worker that could see time at first base. Depth in the infield and throughout the team has the Hillcat head coach most excited about the upcoming year.

Another addition comes in the form of new pitching coach Andrea Vaughn. Most recently the head coach at Oologah High School, Vaughn has done things to improve the pitchers in a few weeks that are evident to the Hillcat head coach. Dicus is excited to see what the guidance of Vaughn along with the mixture of pitching styles will do for RSU.

“That’s probably the biggest thing about our team now. We’ve always had a good softball team but we’ve never had near the depth we have now,” Dicus discussed. “We’ve seen it spike in intra-squad scrimmages and kids are actually pushing each other.”

Linsey Curtis adds another option inside the circle as she continues to improve every day. Dicus likes the drop ball that Curtis possesses in her repertoire and believes the senior will be an inning eater.

Pitcher

Catcher

A season ago Laura Fleck was forced to be the Hillcats everyday pitcher as she won 28 games in her 54 appearances in the circle. The southpaw pitched in 292.2 innings in her first year in a RSU uniform out of Muskogee (Okla.) High School.

After starting 58 of the Hillcats 59 games at catcher a season ago Niki Keck returns for her senior season in 2013. Despite being the incumbent Keck isn’t necessarily guaranteed the job in 2013.

This year Fleck will share time with Yolanda Rios a junior transfer from Midland Junior College. Rios recorded a 258 record as a sophomore with nine saves and a 2.77 ERA. In 225.1 innings pitched last year she struck out 202 batters. A right handed pitcher, Rios was effective as a freshman at Midland finishing with a 22-4 record with six saves and a 2.26 ERA in 180 innings.

Odessa College transfer Desireé Ayarzagoitia made a push in the fall for the starting job. After batting .389 with 65 hits, 18 doubles, eight home runs and 47 RBI as a sophomore a season ago in the NJCAA.

10

2013 Softball Season Outlook “She’s probably better on the offensive end, yet Keck has good knowledge and understanding of what we’re trying to do. How they blend together will be interesting,” discussed Dicus of the catchers. A third player, Jamie King, could be put in the mix behind the plate due to her ability offensively. “King is a mult-faceted player that can play in the outfield and catch,” said Dicus. “We’re trying to figure out how to keep her bat in the line-up, keep Desiree’s bat in the line-up and Keck, a kid that played every game for us last year.”

Outfield In left field the Hillcats return three-year starter Katrina Loy while incorporating newcomer Jackie Flores. “Loy swings a big bat and will probably be our clean-up hitter to start off when we open the season. She’s a solid defender in left field and knows where the ball is supposed to go,” the Hillcat skipper said. A Claremore, Okla. native, Loy started all 59 games in left field last season and was second on the team in home runs with seven. She was named a Captial One CoSIDA Academic All-American as a junior. “Flores give a little more range defensively as she can cover gap to line and run balls down,” explained Dicus of the Odessa College transfer. “She gives us a lot of depth in the outfield and automatically we become more athletic.” Candace Monigold will take over centerfield duties after a two-year career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Okla. Dicus praised his addition in centerfield, “She’s a smooth operator out there and covers gap-to-gap well. Monigold has great hands, great range, takes great angles and does it effortlessly. She looks like she’s been out there her whole life.” Northern Oklahoma College–Tonkawa transfer Katie Ellington could round out the line-up for the Hillcats in right field. The Hillcat head coach explained the Bishop Kelley product, “Ellington is a JUCO transfer that is super-fast with a powerful arm and powerful bat. She’s very athletic covering line to gap and a lot of ground. She’ll be a surprise on the offensive end with the numbers she can put up.”

u Jackie Flores and the Hillcats look to make their first trip to the NAIA National Tournament in 2013.

11

2013 Softball Season Outlook

u Head Coach Mark Dicus has compiled a 135-101 record, most wins by any coach in program history.

“We go to three tournaments early. At Friends we’ll play some ranked teams, McPherson we’ll play one or two nationally ranked teams in pool play and then at Evangel that might be the toughest of the three,” said Dicus.

King brings good range, gap-to-gap and could be a leadoff hitter playing a lot in right field, sometime at catcher and designated player. Ashlee Dillman can play all three of the outfield spots and is a valued piece to the coaching staff due to her versatility. Her awareness on the base paths and experience has Dicus believing she could have a great senior season.

Sooner Athletic Conference play gets started March 5th on the road in Chickasha, Okla. facing USAO. The conference home opener comes two days later as the Lady Drovers come to the Diamond Sports Complex on March 7th.

Schedule

March 29th the Hillcats travel to preseason No. 2-ranked Lubbock Christian for four games in two days. Preseason No. 16 St. Gregory’s comes to Claremore on April 6 while preseason No. 4 Oklahoma City closes out the Softball Cats regular season with games on April 23rd in Claremore and a road trip on April 27th.

The season starts Feb. 13 on the road facing Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla. The home opener is just a few days later at the newly renamed Diamond Sports Complex as William Woods comes to town for a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 17. WWU received four votes in the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Preseason Poll giving RSU an early test.

Dicus discussed the slate of conference games. “This is a year we can battle evenly throughout that field. Then throw in Oklahoma Baptist which has a great team and good coach. Mid-America Christian is picked last in the conference but in this conference last is still pretty good. Their coach is there for his second season, he’s a hall of fame coach and he’ll upgrade that program so the SAC in itself will be a battle every day.”

“We never back away from anyone and we always build a strong schedule,” explained Dicus of his scheduling philosophy. “We build a tough schedule to prepare us for postseason play. To prepare us for the SAC tournament and to try and get a national tournament bid. That’s possible because the SAC comes with such a great reputation nationally.” RSU travels to three tournaments during the season the first in Wichita, Kan. at the Friends University Tournament on March 1-2. A week later the Cats travel to McPherson, Kan. playing in the McPherson College Tournament. The following week RSU plays in its final tournament on March 15-16 at the David Fillmore Memorial Tournament in Springifield, Mo hosted by Evangel University.

Despite a tough conference slate and a non-conference schedule packed with quality opponents. Dicus believes the experience will prove the Hillcat battle tested especially with a strong group of upperclassmen on the roster. “The schedule is probably tougher than any schedule we’ve ever had. But this group of seniors collectively has done a pretty good job and compiled a lot of wins and not a lot could do that.”

Hillcat Softball 2012 Season in Review

u The Hillcats extended their streak of 30-win seasons to six straight last season.

For the sixth consecutive season the Rogers State softball team reached the 30-win plateau and the Cats claimed the program’s fifth straight Sooner Athletic Conference tournament appearance. The Hillcats closed out the season with a 36-23 record and 9-17 in conference play.

The tournament success continued as the Cats traveled to the Evangel Tournament in Springfield, Mo. leaving with a 4-1 record for the weekend and stretching the Cats record to 23-4 on the season. The Cats traveled to Tennessee knocking off Tennessee Wesleyan and Bryan College in doubleheaders and stretching the season record to 27-4 prior to conference play.

Coach Mark Dicus’ squad opened the season hot winning seven straight games including doubleheader sweeps of regional foes Bacone College and Oklahoma Wesleyan. The seven game win streak was halted after RSU topped Grand View in three games in a weekend series before the Vikings claimed the final game.

Conference play began rough as RSU was swept in its conference season opener by Oklahoma Baptist in a doubleheader in Shawnee, Okla.

RSU hit the road to Wichita, Kan. winning four of five games as Ottawa University proved to be the only foe at the Friends University Tournament. Doubleheader sweeps of Oklahoma Wesleyan and Bacone College gave at the newly renovated Hillcat Complex gave the Cats claim of the season series over the two regional opponents.

RSU followed by splitting doubleheader showdowns versus Oklahoma Christian and then-No. 25 Southern Nazarene. Two weeks later the Hillcats split doubleheaders with then No. 6 Lubbock Christian and then-No. 17 ranked SNU. Dicus’ squad finished the regular season capturing just three of its final 11 games heading into the conference tournament. In the SAC Tournament, RSU fell to Lubbock Christian 1-0 on a wild pitch in the third inning. The Cats dropped the elimination game versus USAO on a bases loaded, wild pitch in extra innings as the Drovers claimed the 2-1 victory.

Mid-March the Hillcats traveled first to McPherson, Kan. for a round-robin tournament as RSU won four out of its five games. Newcomer Shona Guerrero was named SAC player of the week tallying a .500 batting average with a slugging percentage of .929 with three doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI in leading RSU to an 8-1 record in the week of March 5-11.

Hillcat Softball Field

u Following the completion of rennovations in 2012, the home of Hillcat Softball was renamed the Diamond Sports Complex.

Diamond Sports Complex (Home of Hillcat Softball) The Hillcat Softball Field is located in the northwest corner of the Diamond Sports Complex on the northwest corner of RSU's Claremore Campus. It features a brand new professional playing surface, a large inning-by-inning scoreboard, batting cages adjacent to the home dugout and spacious grandstand and lawn chair areas for fans. A large locker room is located behind the Hillcat dugout that includes individual lockers, coaches offices, an athletic training area, bathrooms, showers and a 42-inch flat screen television and DVD player. Lights were installed in time for the 2008 season. The centerpiece at the Diamond Sports Complex is a 7,790 square-foot, two-story building positioned between the playing fields began construction in late July 2011 and opened in time for the start of the 2012-13 academic year. The first floor includes concessions and restrooms for patrons as well as two dressing rooms for umpires and multiple storage areas. The second floor features separate press boxes for baseball and softball, coaches’ offices, and a donors’ suite with indoor and outdoor seating. New grandstands with stadium seating, a ticket booth, and a paved entry plaza are also included in the project.

RSU Hillcat Sports Information Services Interviews

The “Hillcat” was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.

All interviews should be setup through the sports information office. RSU head coaches are available throughout the week, mainly in the morning. Student-athletes are also available for interviews, typically right before or after practice. Most Hillcat teams practice between 3:00 p.m and 5:00 p.m. during the week. Credentials Request for credentials to athletic events should be made at least 48 hours in advance of the event and directed to the sports information office. Spouses, dates, children and non-working media will not be given a pass or assigned a seat on press row. RSU does not provide parking passes to the media.

Style Guidelines u When making a proper name ending in s possessive, DO NOT add an s: i.e. Coach Dicus’, NOT Coach Dicus’s. u In athletic media communications and publications, DO NOT use the term Lady Hillcats or Lady Cats. Hillcats, Cats, Softball Cats, Diamond Cats (baseball), etc. are acceptable. u Refer to the institution as Rogers State on first mention in news releases or other communications about sports events. The words university or college are understood in such releases, and are a commonly accepted practice within athletics.

Gameday Services RSU’s sports information office produces media guides for most sports and game notes for men’s and women’s basketball games, which include rosters, schedules and statistical leaders. Opponents are asked to supply RSU -- either via fax, email or with a link to availability on the web -- with detailed rosters, upto-date statistics and season scores, for use in our game day notes no later than a day before the event. Following a home event, RSU will supply all results to both home and visiting media. RSU always contacts the Claremore Progress, Tulsa World, Daily Oklahoman, and local TV and sports/news radio stations with scores and statistics (where applicable).

Opposing teams are also free to use phone and fax machines in the athletic office or sports information office. Please ask the sports information director or an athletic staff member for assistance.

Statistical Services RSU uses the Dakstats statistics programs for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball. RSU offers live webcasts for men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, baseball and softball via the NAIA/Daktronics website. RSU will supply visiting teams and media with complete statistics immediately following the game. Postgame, RSU will e-mail dakstats game files to opposing SIDs. A box score of the event will also accompany the email in attachment form. If coaches or opposing SIDs would like dakfiles immediately after the game, please have a jump drive available and we will gladly take care of it.

What Is A Hillcat? The university’s official mascot, the “Hillcat,” is a unique blue and red animal that serves as a source of campus pride and provides a visual identity for the university’s Athletic, Student Activities, and other school spirit programs. The Hillcat embodies the enthusiastic, determined and bold spirit of the university’s athletic programs and the pride our students and alumni feel for the institution.

Social Media Twitter – twitter.com/RSUHillcats Facebook – facebook.com/RSUHillcatAthletics YouTube - youtube.com/RSUHillcatAthletics

The “Hillcat” is a fictitious cousin of the bobcat, which is indigenous to northeast Oklahoma. The “Hillcat” also draws its name from “College Hill,” a traditional nickname for RSU. The university sits atop a hill overlooking the city of Claremore. The name “Hillcat” was conceived independently by a group of RSU students in spring 2005, and approved by the University Mascot Committee, Student Government Association, President, and Administration.

RSU Hillcat Compliance What are Boosters permitted to do?

Booster Education for RSU Alumni, Friends & Fans

u Notify coaches about prospects in your area

Rogers State University is responsible for the actions of its coaches, student-athletes and staff, as well as its alumni, boosters and fans. The following information is intended to help educate athletic boosters and organizations, so they can best support RSU athletes without putting the institution or the individual student-athletes at risk. If you have any questions or would like to seek clarification regarding your actions as a supporter of Hillcat athletics, please call the athletic compliance office at (918) 343-7988 or email RSU's NCAA Compliance Coordinator, Eddie Jackson at ejackson@rsu.edu.

u Attend athletic contests where prospects compete, but may not contact the prospect or the prospect's relatives u Continue existing friendships with families of prospects, but not attempt to recruit u Participate with prospects in organized institutional community engagement activities when prospects reside within 100-mile radius of location (Effective 8/1/07)

Enrolled Student-Athletes What contact can Boosters have with currently enrolled student-athletes?

Boosters What is a booster?

A booster may not provide a student-athlete any benefit or special arrangement that would not be offered to the rest of the general student population. This would include:

You are a Booster or Representative of Athletic Interests, if you: u Have participated in, or ever have been, a member of a booster organization that supports RSU athletics;

u May not entertain student-athletes or their friends or family;

u Have made any financial contribution to the RSU athletic department or any athletic organization of the University;

u May not use the name or picture of an enrolled studentathlete to advertise, recommend, or promote any product or service;

u Have been involved in the recruitment of a prospect or have been asked to assist in the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete;

u May not provide awards or gifts to student-athletes; u May not allow a student-athlete to use a telephone to make free calls, or allow use of a free or discounted auto mobile;

u Have provided or are providing benefits to an enrolled student-athlete or his or her relatives or friends; u Have otherwise been involved in promoting the RSU athletic program;

u May not provide a student-athlete free or reduced cost goods or services.

u Have helped arrange employment for student-athletes;

NOTE: An enrolled student-athlete may be invited to a booster's home for an occasional home-cooked meal, but may not be taken to a restaurant.

u Are a parent or guardian of an enrolled student-athlete; u Are or have ever been a season-ticket holder. NOTE: Once someone has been identified as a Booster, they will retain that identity forever.

Employment A student-athlete may be employed so long as compensation is only for work actually performed, at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar work, and the student-athlete was not hired based on athletic ability.

Recruiting What is a prospective student-athlete? A prospective student-athlete is any person who has begun classes in the ninth grade. A prospective student-athlete remains so even after signing a National Letter of Intent or accepting financial aid and until they report for the first day of classes.

NOTE: Employment may be arranged for a prospect provided the employment does not begin before the completion of the prospect's senior year of high school.

Institutional Control RSU is responsible for the actions of its boosters and booster support groups. Boosters are regulated by the same NCAA rules and regulations placed upon all institutional athletics staff members.

What are Boosters prohibited from doing? u Contacting a prospect in person on or off campus u Writing or telephoning a prospect or member of the prospect's family

Consequences If a booster provides an impermissible benefit to a prospect, a student-athlete, or their relatives or friends, institutions may be subject to penalties, even if the student-athlete has completed his or her eligibility. A prospect or student-athlete who accepts an impermissible benefit faces the loss of eligibility.

u Making arrangements for the prospect or the prospect's relatives or friends to receive money or financial aid u Providing transportation for a prospect or the prospect's family or friends to visit the campus u Providing free tickets or reduced priced tickets to attend an athletic event to the prospect or the prospect's family or friends u Entertaining coaches of prospects

RSU Traditions Fear the Claw

Hillcat

Not long after Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball was introduced at RSU, the home court at the Claremore Expo Center quickly gained a reputation as a formidable venue for opponents.

The university’s official mascot, the “Hillcat,” is a unique blue and red animal that serves as a source of campus pride and provides a visual identity for the university’s Athletics, Student Activities, and other school spirit programs.

As a member of the Hillcat team aligns himself or herself on the free throw line, the crowd at the Expo Center extends one arm skyward and makes the sign of the claw with their fists.

The “Hillcat” embodies the enthusiastic, determined and bold spirit of the university’s athletic programs and the pride our students and alumni feel for the institution.

If the shot falls successfully, arms descend in the manner of the scratch of a ferocious wild cat.

It is a fictitious cousin of the bobcat, which is indigenous to northeast Oklahoma.

As members of an opposing team prepare to shoot a free throw, the rowdy RSU student section has been known to intimidate the shooter. Depending on the shooter’s fortitude, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t!

The mascot also draws its name from “College Hill,” a traditional nickname for RSU. The university sits atop a hill overlooking the city of Claremore. The name was conceived independently by a group of RSU students in spring 2005, and approved by the University Mascot Committee, Student Government Association, President, and Administration.

Homecoming Week The university celebrated the first-ever Homecoming during the first week of November 2007, during the first Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball games.

The mascot was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.

At RSU, Homecoming is a campus-wide tradition. A bonfire is typically held the night before the big games in the open area west of the University Village B student apartments.

Fight Song Hillcats of RSU Standing tall in Red and Blue We will prevail We refuse to fail Because our spirit's great We wear our colors proudly On our way to victory Go Rogers State!!!

A campus office decoration competition is held during Homecoming Week, in which students and staff members compete to show their Hillcat pride. The Hillcat Hacker Invitational is a fun-filled golf event played amidst the hazards of Rogers State University’s scenic Claremore campus. The game features special nondestructive golf balls and is designed for pros, amateurs and hackers alike. The goal of this event is to generate camaraderie among the university’s friends and alumni, showcase RSU’s beautiful and historic campus and establish an outstanding Hillcat Homecoming tradition.

Lyrics by Yvonne Pace Music by Clarence Woods/arr. Weller

Alma Mater Rise above the Claremore valley Camelot to view, Stands our gracious alma mater Thrusting t’ward the blue.

The Slam Dunk Contest and 3-point Shootout has become a yearly tradition held on the Thursday of Homecoming Week. The Homecoming Tailgate Party, held outside of the Claremore Expo Center, is one of the most popular Homecoming events for students, alumni, and the community. For more information, visit www.rsu.edu/homecoming.

Lift the chorus, speed it onward For the Red and Blue, Hail to thee our alma mater Hail to R-S-U!
