“I had a lot of options when I graduated from high school, but I chose RSU. The campus is beautiful, and the financial aid office connected me with scholarship opportunities that allowed me to graduate debt free. I got the traditional university experience while getting hands-on research experience that will definitely pay off when I go to dental school.”

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT We welcome you to another exciting season of Hillcat soccer as we start our second season competing as a member of the Heartland Conference in NCAA Division II. It’s thrilling to watch our student-athletes and athletic programs perform at the highest level. The development of our athletic programs mirrors the exciting changes that have occurred throughout the university with a distinguished list of recent milestones that includes: • Developing RSU as the Tulsa metropolitan area’s only public, residential four-year university, providing students with personalized academic attention that’s become the RSU’s hallmark; • Expanding the residential life experience with the construction of a new $11 million campus housing facility (University Village C) that will house residents starting in fall 2015 and this fall’s opening of the new $5 million Chapman Dining Hall that provides the first comprehensive dining facility on campus in decades, while also containing a storm shelter for campus residents during inclement weather; • Introducing new academic programs that meet the needs of Oklahoma’s business and industry, including our first graduate program – an MBA degree program that started this fall; • Expanding and remodeling academic facilities to provide students with up-to-date academic resources; and • Developing strong ties with the communities we serve in order to fulfill our mission of education and service. As the state’s newest four-year university, RSU has quickly matured into a leading regional university recognized for the value it provides to students and service it provides to the community. Our growth also extends to our intercollegiate athletics, which are a relatively new addition after being reintroduced to campus in 2005. In only a few short years, our Hillcat teams have become a vital component of the university’s DNA providing an infectious campus spirit and a strong connection to the community. The university and our students have invested in athletic facilities, including the new baseball/softball complex, Bushyhead Fieldhouse renovations, expansion and turf installation at Soldier Field and construction of soccer and cross country facilities on campus. We appreciate our entire student body for their support of these campus initiatives, including the student fees that funded the recently completed $4 million renovations of the soccer facilities and baseball/softball complex. Their support signals a strong vote of confidence in our athletic programs, but also represents their investment in the quality of life at Rogers State. We have enjoyed our affiliation with the Heartland Conference as we continue along our path to becoming full members of the NCAA Division II. We appreciated the high priority both the NCAA and the Heartland Conference place on promoting healthy values, developing strong character traits, and encouraging academic achievement among all student-athletes. These are core values for RSU’s programs, and we work daily to impress them upon our student-athletes. We appreciate your interest in RSU athletics, and we look forward to another great season on the pitch. Go Hillcats!

LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS Greetings from the Hill and welcome to the eighth edition of Hillcat soccer. The RSU Athletic Department is set for the 2014-2015 school year as we embark upon RSU’s second season in the Heartland Conference and continue the NCAA Division II membership process. The RSU men’s and women’s soccer teams have enjoyed tremendous success since their inaugural seasons in 2007. During our tenure in the NAIA and Sooner Athletic Conference, both programs qualified for the SAC postseason tournament in six consecutive seasons. In 2014 the women’s soccer program starts a new chapter as Head Coach Heather Cato takes the helm, building upon the foundation set by Coach Larkin and his staff. The RSU soccer programs have built a solid foundation while also emphasizing the importance of academics. Five players have garnered CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, 12 players have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete, and 11 players have been chosen CoSIDA Academic All-District. The 2010 women’s team earned the NSCAA Academic Team Award and the 2012 women’s team was named a NAIA Scholar Team. We are very proud of our soccer team’s accomplishments and are excited to see what the future holds for the programs. The outpouring of community support has played a huge role in our success and will remain vital to Hillcat Athletics as we strive to raise the bar once again in 2014-2015. Thank you for all you do to support the Hillcats!

ABOUT RSU

u RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor’s and associate degrees.

Rogers State University: A Great Oklahoma Higher Education Success Story

Rogers State University holds a historic position in the annals of Oklahoma higher education. Since RSU was accredited as a four-year university in 2000, enrollment has increased by more than 60 percent, earning RSU the title of Oklahoma's fastest-growing regional university. A dynamic, progressive university with nearly 4,300 students, RSU is widely recognized for its high-quality academic programs, distance learning options and high-technology learning environment. RSU is the only public, four-year, residential university in the Tulsa metropolitan area. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's and associate degrees. Innovative new bachelor's degrees include applied technology, environmental conservation, military history, sport management and game development. In fall 2014, the university will begin its first graduate degree program, a master’s of business administration. Many students from northeast Oklahoma who plan to attend medical school complete their undergraduate studies through RSU's program in medical/molecular biology. RSU enjoys a statewide reputation for academic excellence in its nursing program.

Distinguished Academic Achievements

RSU received continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools without further required evaluation for 10 years - a rarity in higher education in Oklahoma and a major accomplishment achieved by few universities. This is truly a testament to the high academic quality of RSU. RSU participates in The Washington Center Internship Program, a nationally recognized program placing students with private, public, and nonprofit organizations in Washington, D.C. Students participating in the semester-long internship earn college credit while they gain "real world" experience within their field of interest and interact with influential leaders and policymakers. RSU is one of only three universities in Oklahoma to participate in this prestigious program. Most RSU faculty members hold doctoral degrees, or the highest degrees available in their fields, from esteemed institutions across the nation, including Princeton University, Duke University and the University of Oklahoma.

ABOUT RSU Hall has doubled in size and contains many of the leadingedge features associated with higher learning today, including classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning outdoors on sunny days.

The university’s Honors Program provides an atmosphere where scholars can challenge themselves academically to maximize their college experience through specialized courses, student/faculty joint research projects, and a strong emphasis on service learning in the community.

RSU opened a new student apartment community in September 2011 that doubles the number of students living on the main campus in Claremore. The $11.5 million project accommodates up to 255 students in a three-level facility, located across the street from the present university apartments. The new 87,118-square-foot complex is located just west of Soldier Field. Chapman Dining Hall opened on campus in fall 2014.

The President's Leadership Class (PLC), a four-year scholarship program that fosters personal and professional development, was designed for RSU students who have demonstrated leadership abilities. RSU also offers study abroad programs in Italy and Wales through the university's Studies-at-Large Program. The international study programs provide students with opportunities to see the world, learn about other cultures, and enrich their educational experience.

Stratton Taylor Library, which opened in 2004, features distinguished collections, wireless Internet, study areas, reading rooms, computer stations and classrooms.

Growth in Learning Facilities

A Brief History of RSU

The Centennial Center, which opened in 2009, has become the centerpiece of the main campus in Claremore. This twolevel, 50,000-square-foot facility combines student development programs under one roof, serves as a central location for students to study and socialize and provides a focal point for the RSU campus in Claremore. The facility also offers ballrooms, conference centers, and meeting rooms for the community.

RSU was founded in 1909 as Eastern University Preparatory School in Claremore. The school prepared the daughters and sons of area residents to attend college. Historic Preparatory Hall, known for its iconic gold dome, was the first building on the school's campus. However, the school closed only a few years after it opened. Taking its place was the storied Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA), which operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971. Known as the “West Point of the Southwest,” OMA has an extensive register of graduates who became great leaders,

A major expansion and renovation of Baird Hall on the Claremore campus was completed in 2010. The new Baird

both in military and civilian life. More than 2,500 OMA graduates served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. More than 100 graduates gave their lives in service to their country. In 1971, OMA closed and Claremore Junior College opened on the Hill, serving more than 400 students. The junior college grew rapidly in the 1970s, and by the time it was renamed Rogers State College in 1982, the institution boasted a variety of associate degree programs, distance learning capabilities, a new radio and television station and intercollegiate athletics. In 1999, the Oklahoma Legislature renamed the institution Rogers State University and charged it with seeking accreditation as a four-year university. Accreditation at the baccalaureate level was granted in 2000. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's degree programs to students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville, Pryor and online.

HILLCAT LIFE PROGRAMS

u More than 150 student-athletes have graduated over the last seven years.

Academic Development

The Hillcat Academic Center is located in the basement of Bushyhead Fieldhouse. There, student-athletes have access to a full computer lab with a printer and a classroom that can be utilized for study hall as well as individual study. Academic advising for all student-athletes is available through the office of the Assistant Athletic Director for Student Development. Counseling for choosing a major and advising for course enrollment are provided, as well as help in obtaining a faculty advisor for those that have chosen a major. Tutors are available for most subjects by athletic department academic tutors in one-on-one or group sessions. Additional tutoring is available through individual academic departments. Hillcat Athletics requires weekly study hall for all freshman and first semester transfer students to attend. Weekly study hall time thereafter is required as determined by cumulative GPA.

NCAA Compliance Training

Hillcat student-athletes are educated about NCAA rules and regulations, including the NCAA regulations of practice and play seasons, outside competition and tryouts, commercial endorsements, boosters, student host recruiting and progress towards a degree.

Hillcat LIFE Programs

The Hillcat LIFE programs are designed to promote student-athletes’ success off the field or court. Each year, RSU introduces a variety of programs to enrich the college experiences of its student-athletes, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and giving them information useful when making important life decisions. The following are some examples of Hillcat LIFE programs: Habitudes for Athletes Habitudes for Athletes is a character-based leadership training program designed to prepare athletes for successful participation in team sports as well as life off the playing field. The Habitudes curriculum uses powerful images to teach important character and leadership principles in an epic fashion that is both engaging and memorable. As a result, the athletes are equipped and empowered to develop healthy life skills that will positively impact their lives.

8

HILLCAT LIFE PROGRAMS

u Athletics has become an integral part of the campus community, with student-athletes serving as leaders on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Social Media Training Rogers State educates and prepares student-athletes to make a positive impact through social media. RSU helps studentathletes understand the risk involved with using social media poorly, both currently and in the future. Through social media training, athletes are educated of the opportunities of social media in developing themselves for the workplace. Student-athletes learn the impact current social media interaction can have on their job search. Drug and Alcohol Counseling Student-athletes are made aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. They are given examples of athletes with promising futures who failed to reach their potential due to drug/alcohol abuse. Dangers of Gambling Student-athletes are warned about the dangers of gambling addictions and also are warned against gambling on any athletic event, which is a violation of NCAA rules. Community Engagement  Rogers State athletic teams develop relationships with charities and community organizations throughout Claremore and surrounding communities to build relationships with community members. Organizations Hillcat teams have worked with include: TOPSoccer, Safenet, Rogers County Youth Services, Claremore Sequoyah Elementary, First Baptist Church Recovery Program, Claremore’s Westside Elementary, Catoosa Special Olympics, the Claremore Community Center’s Blast program, Operation Christmas Child, Claremore Nursing Home and Inola Elementary. Hillcat teams also took part in Rogers State University Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service events serving at a Habitat for Humanity site clearing debris and at the Claremore Veterans Center playing Bingo. In the fall 2012 semester, Hillcat athletic teams combined to work more than 900 hours with community organizations.

HEATHER CATO - HEAD WOMEN’S SOCCER COACH Rogers State Director of Athletics Ryan Erwin introduced Heather Cato as the new head women’s soccer coach in January 2014. Cato served as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Whitman College (Wash.) since August 2010 and becomes the second head coach over the RSU women’s soccer program. She replaces Derek Larkin who has served at the helm of both the men’s and women’s soccer programs since the team’s inception in 2007. Larkin, who compiled an 8443-8 record and a 2007 Sooner Athletic Conference championship with the women’s program, will continue his duties with the men’s soccer program. While at Whitman, Cato tallied 30 wins in her four-year stint as the head coach, earning an 11-9 record during the 2013 season. She coached 17 All-Northwest Conference players and 37 Academic All-Northwest Conference recipients. During her stint, the program averaged a 3.45 team grade point average.

u Heather Cato took over the RSU women’s soccer program in 2014.

Cato kicked off her coaching career as an assistant at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock from 2001 to 2003. During her two seasons as an assistant coach, she managed the team budget and scholarship fund, organized team practices and scouting reports, developed and implemented year-around strength and conditioning programs, and assisted with recruiting that helped boost the team's win total by eight victories from one season to the next.

The Arkansas alum was a member of the Washington state and regional Olympic Development Program (ODP) from 1992 through 1996. She was a captain of the state squad for three years and she captained the Region IV team in 1996, when she was named to the under-20 ODP national team. As a national team member, she traveled to Florida for one training camp and then toured Europe with the team for a month.

Cato is a 2001 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She was a fouryear starter for the Razorbacks, playing both forward and outside midfielder. Cato led the Razorbacks in scoring as a senior and finished with 24 career goals. She was second on the school's all-time scoring list at the time of her graduation, and she still ranks sixth on the all-time Razorback scoring ladder. Arkansas won the Southeastern Conference's western division title in her first season and then lost the SEC championship game in the final seven seconds of doubleovertime. The Razorbacks shared a second divisional title during her senior season. Cato booted 13 of her career goals against SEC opponents and was her school's all-time leading scorer in conference games at the time of her graduation. She still ranks third in conference scoring at Arkansas. Cato obtained a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock in 2003.

Cato, who was born in Missouri and moved to Vancouver, Wash., when she was 10, is the daughter of Jim and Tina Trickey and David and Debbie Cato, all of whom live in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Siblings Jason Trickey and Christie Snyder also live Missouri.

11

VICTORIA RAMIREZ - WOMEN’S ASSISTANT COACH Victoria Ramirez begins her first season with the Rogers State women's soccer team as an assistant coach after joining the staff in July 2014. Ramirez spent the 2013 season as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. She worked closely with head coach Lindsey Boden in providing instruction at games and practices as well as assisting in practice planning and execution. Her work also consisted of reviewing and breaking down game film and updating social media sites. As the goalkeeper coach, Ramirez planned and conducted all practices while providing player evaluations. She also spent time working with the defenders to create cohesion among the defensive units. A four-year starting goalkeeper for the Falcons, Ramirez served as team captain for two seasons and is the all-time leader in saves at UTPB. She was a three-time Heartland Conference Academic All-Conference selection. A native of Midland, Texas, Ramirez received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from UTPB in 2013.

u Heather Cato and Victoria Ramirez will embark on their first season guiding the Hillcats in 2014.

12

WOMEN’S SOCCER OUTLOOK Two players made the trek to the Hill from the West Coast as junior transfer Amanda Jones and freshman Lexi Ellingsen look to fill starting spots along the back line. Jones was an allregion forward at Walla Walla Community College before transitioning to be a defender during her sophomore season. Junior Macy Travis returns to the lineup adding experience and depth along with newcomers Briana Meneses, a junior transfer from Western Texas College, and freshman Ashley Pruitt.

The Rogers State women's soccer team ushers in a new age as Head Coach Heather Cato takes the reins for the 2014 season as only the second coach in program history. Cato has instilled a new attitude for the Hillcats emphasizing the team aspect of the game. A majority of preseason training has focused on building team chemistry and communication throughout all 24 student-athletes. "The biggest thing we are looking forward to is changing the mentality of the program and then really we touch a lot on the tradition; what was before us and leaving a legacy. We always say leave it better than when we got in here," Cato said.

The Hillcats list only one goalkeeper on the official roster as Teri Cocke returns to the Hill for her second season after serving as the backup to Third-Team AllHeartland Conference keeper Jordan Harris in 2013. Cocke made only six appearances as a true freshman with one start, but her lack of collegiate experience does not concern Coach Cato heading into the season.

Her transition will be eased with the help of 16 returning players from a 2013 squad that is looking to rebound from a disappointing season where the Hillcats finished seventh in their first season in the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference.

"We have been trying to build (Teri's) confidence to let her understand she has the tools and all the abilities in the world to be a conference goalkeeper, she just has to start believing it. Her confidence is growing every day and we are proud of her for it," Cato added.

DEFENDERS/GOALKEEPERS

RSU will have to do that while replacing two, four-year starting defenders, losing Loren LeForce and Cierra Lohaus to graduation. Haley Wenlock is one of only three seniors on the RSU squad and will serve as a team captain, anchoring the back line. Wenlock started all 17 matches last season and was named Defensive Player of the Year for the Hillcats. Redshirt junior Taylor James returns to the defense corps after earning 10 starts in 2013 and will join Wenlock as a center back.

The team knows that in order to turn their fortunes around it is going to take a committed effort from everyone involved. "It takes 24 of us. It doesn't matter if you're on the bench at the beginning of the game versus who is on the field at the end. All 24 of the players, plus the two coaches, must come out and perform every day in practice. That is what makes us successful," Cato concluded.

"It's a huge benefit of going forward with Haley as a center, senior back but you've got to have three other people help you out there," Cato stated. "We are excited about Taylor's return. She has come in and stepped up to where we need to be. Then we have a couple of new players that are trying to fill that role."

FORWARDS/MIDFIELDERS

#9 BLAIR THOMAS

13

One of the most experienced groups for the Hillcats is on the attack. It features the return of their top two scorers from the 2013 season in Third-Team All-Heartland Conference selection, Tara Garrett, and fellow senior and four-year starter Blair Thomas. The pair combined for nearly half the goal production for RSU a season ago as Garrett ranked fifth in the conference with a teamleading eight goals.

WOMEN’S SOCCER OUTLOOK "I am constantly trying to figure out ways to throw some of your offensive assets into the game," Cato said. "Blair has the speed, she has the work ethic, and she just gets in the mix. Having the option of throwing her forward is really exciting for us because we also have a front runner in Paige Pontarolo, who can find her and find Tara. That is going to cause defenses some problems."

"The Denver trip is going to be a huge thing for our team to grow off the field as well as on. Those are important trips for any collegiate program," Cato concluded. "Our program has improved and being able to play some of the top teams and people that have been to the Elite Eight are where you find out where your program really is."

Pontarolo comes to the Hill as a sophomore scoring threat from Walla Walla Community College while the Hillcats return junior Taylor Hallford and sophomore Courtney Tucker up top. Local product Teagan Moonen is another forward option for RSU from Sequoyah High School.

The Hillcats kick off the season Sept. 4 heading to Bethany, Oklahoma to face the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.

Coach Cato has a number of options to plug into the middle of the field and that has created more competition for playing time while pushing the entire group to be better and more consistent. "What's good is we have some returners like Jianna (Cervantes) that is going to play a huge role for us in the midfield," Cato added. "She can play both sides of the ball very, very well and can win balls in the air. Then you have a freshman like Leigh Ann Craig who has stepped up huge. She has come in and said I want to start and make a difference. That has added competition for Carley Johnson, who can play anywhere on the field. Lucy Redmond is technically gifted and Breanna Ray has the technical ability and the tactical ability to see everything." Four other players return with collegiate experience in juniors Taylor Geissler and Olivia Freeman as well as sophomores Kealani Chaidez and Taylor Neubecker. Newcomer Devin Stokes also joins the team for her junior campaign. "For me, it's awesome to have a center midfield that we can throw all sorts of options in there. Then you have speed on the outside with Tara and Blair. We really have 10 or 11 players that we can put across a four or five-man midfield," Cato stated.

SCHEDULE

Those options are going to be on display during RSU's 17match schedule, which includes nine home games and an early season trip to Colorado, which the entire team has circled on the calendar. All home contests at Soldier Field will be available on the Hillcat Network with free live audio and video.

u Kealani Chaidez returns for her sophomore season on the Hill after appearing in 16 games last season.

2013 WOMEN’S SOCCER SEASON IN REVIEW The Rogers State women’s soccer team completed its first year in the Heartland Conference and last year under the tutelage of Head Coach Derek Larkin in 2013.

Leforce became the first-ever NCAA Division II Academic All-America selection in school history and the first, first team selection in women's soccer history. She became the second student-athlete in school history to be named First Team Academic All-America® joining only former baseball player Tyler Whitaker (2008).

RSU garnered its first win of the season in the final game of September with a non-conference thrashing of Bacone, 91, behind junior Blair Thomas' six-point effort. The team picked up its lone tie of the season on the road with a 1-1 draw at Missouri Southern State starting a stretch where RSU went unbeaten in three of four matches.

In January, RSU capped off the season by naming Heather Cato as the new head women’s soccer coach of the Hillcats and second coach in program history. Coach Larkin spent seven years at the helm of the RSU women’s soccer squad, compiling an 84-43-8 record (.652 winning percentage), earning a 2007 Sooner Athletic Conference championship and SAC Coach of the Year honors in the inaugural season. He will remain the head coach of the men’s squad for the 2014 season.

The Hillcats tallied two wins in the highly-touted Heartland Conference during that streak. The first came in October as the Cats thumped Texas-Permian Basin 5-0 at Soldier Field with sophomore Taylor Hallford tallying two goals. The second win came a week later as RSU battled in-state rival Oklahoma Christian to a 3-1 victory in Oklahoma City. In their final game of the season, the Hillcats suffered a 3-2 loss in overtime to Newman. Claremore, Okla., natives Tara Garrett and Jordan Harris were each named Heartland Conference Third Team AllConference while the RSU women's soccer team was one of three squads to earn the Silver Heartland Sportsmanship Award. To be eligible for the Heartland Sportsmanship Award, teams must meet the criteria set by the NSCAA based on yellow and red cards. With only two cautions and no red cards on the year, the Hillcats had the fewest yellow cards of any team in the conference. Garrett started 16 of the 17 matches she played in this season, leading the team with eight goals, moving to ninth on the all-time goals scored list, and added one assist for a team-high 17 points. The junior served as a utility player for the Hillcats, playing as both a forward and a defender throughout the season. Harris, the Hillcats' starting goalkeeper, appeared in 58 games in her three seasons on the Hill, including starting all 16 games in which she appeared as a senior in 2013, making 121 saves. Senior defender Loren LeForce was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Women's Soccer Division II First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America following the season. A four-year starter from Coweta, Okla., LeForce was one of two players selected to the first team with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. The senior accounting major played in all 17 games for the Hillcats and recorded one shot while anchoring the back line. She finished her career tied for fourth on the all-time games played list in RSU history.

u During her junior season, Tara Garrett earned Heartland Conference Third Team All-Conference honors, posting a team-leading eight goals and 17 points.

DEREK LARKIN - HEAD MEN’S SOCCER COACH Derek Larkin has established a winning tradition with the Rogers State University men's and women's soccer programs during his seven seasons on the Hill. The 2014 campaign marks a new era for Larkin, as his focus becomes solely on the men's team for the first time in his tenure at RSU. He has led the Hillcat men to a 71-48-13 record (.587 winning percentage) in seven seasons while also registering an 8443-8 record (.652 winning percentage) with the women's program. Both the RSU men and women enjoyed double digit win totals in each of their first five seasons and qualified for the Sooner Athletic Conference postseason tournament in each of the six seasons it was a member. Larkin led both of his first-year programs to a second-place finish in the SAC and a spot in the Region VI Tournament in 2007, reaching the postseason with both squads again in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He spurred the Hillcat women to the SAC Tournament Championship during their inaugural season and was named 2007 SAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year for his efforts.

u Derek Larkin is set for his eighth season as the head men’s soccer coach.

He previously served as the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Bacone College from 2002 to 2004. He was named the Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 after leading the Lady Warriors to the conference championship.

As a member of the Heartland Conference for the first time in 2013, Larkin coached two men's and two women's players to the all-conference team. The men had one first team allconference and one second team all-conference selection while the women's landed two on the third team. The women also received the Silver Heartland Sportsmanship Award.

Larkin also juggled “double duty” as both the men’s and women’s head soccer coach at Missouri Valley College from 1997 to 1999 and at Catoosa High School from 1999 to 2002. He compiled six district championships at Catoosa and was honored as the head coach of the Oklahoma All-State team in 2002.

Under Larkin's guidance, the Hillcats have produced two NAIA All-Americans, eight First Team All-SAC members, 28 Second Team All-SAC members, one SAC Player of the Year, one SAC Newcomer of the Year, two SAC Goalkeepers of the Year, four National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NAIA All-Southwest Team members, five Capital One Academic All-America honorees, 11 Capital One Academic All-District players, one NSCAA Scholar Athlete AllAmerica, four NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honorees, and 12 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete recipients. His 2010 women’s team earned the NSCAA Academic Team Award and the 2012 women’s team was named an NAIA Scholar Team.

A four-year starter at Missouri Valley College, Larkin was a two-year captain leading the Vikings to two Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships. He was twice named first team all-conference and second team all-region. He currently serves as a boy’s coach for the Northeast Oklahoma Futbol Club and is the former director of coaching for the Oklahoma Revolution Soccer Club and girl’s head coach for the Tulsa Nationals Soccer Club. He has collected four Directors Cup Oklahoma State Championships in his coaching career.

Larkin joined RSU in January 2007 tasked with being the university’s first head soccer coach. Before coming to the Hill, Larkin enjoyed success as the head boy’s soccer coach at Bishop Kelley High School from 2004-06. He led the Comets to back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006.

Larkin and his wife Christy have two boys, Zach and Adam, and reside in Owasso.

SHAWN SLATER - MEN’S ASSISTANT COACH Assistant Coach Shawn Slater returns for the eighth season of RSU Hillcat soccer. Slater has been an integral part of establishing a winning tradition at RSU since the program’s inception in 2007. He brings a vast amount of experience as a player and coach to the program. An all-state selection at Tulsa Nathan Hale High School, Slater later starred at John Brown University as well as with several professional teams, including the Tulsa Roughnecks and the Dallas Sidekicks. He worked as an assistant coach at Booker T. Washington High School and Tulsa Memorial High School before landing his first head coaching position at Nathan Hale in 1995. Slater later guided the Bixby and Chickasha boy's soccer programs and helped Catoosa claim the Oklahoma Class 4A State Championship in 2003-04. Slater most recently served as head boy's coach at Claremore High School, leading the Zebras to its first-ever state title game appearance in 2007. He currently serves as a director and staff coach for Blitz United Soccer Club. Shawn and Erica Parks have a daughter, Paige, and a son, Jaxson.

SCOTT PARKINSON - MEN’S ASSISTANT COACH Scott Parkinson begins his first season on the Hill after joining the RSU Men's Soccer program in the fall of 2014. A native of Liverpool, England, Parkinson is a United States Soccer Federation National "C" Licensed coach. He has spent time coaching across Oklahoma, including most recently as an assistant for the men's team at Oklahoma Wesleyan University and as the Director of Soccer Operations for Oklahoma City FC. Before his time with the Eagles, he was appointed head coach at Chickasha High School in 2013 after serving as an assistant since 2010. Parkinson also has coached with the Olympic Development Program in Oklahoma and for the Oklahoma Football and Northeastern Oklahoma Futbol clubs. Parkinson played collegiate soccer at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma where he was the program's first-ever, FirstTeam NAIA and NSCAA All-American in 2012 following third-team selections in 2011. He was team captain for the Drovers and a two-time Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. USAO made the NAIA National Tournament all four years with Parkinson anchoring the back line, twice reaching the final eight. The Drovers also won three SAC regular season titles and two conference tournament championships during his career. He earned SAC All-Conference honors each of his four seasons being named first-team three times. Following a brilliant soccer career at USAO, Parkinson served as team captain for Oklahoma City FC during its inaugural season in the Premier Development League (PDL) in 2013. He previously played for Reading United AC. Before moving to the United States, Parkinson was an apprentice engineer for Jaguar and Land Rover cars for four years. He earned an electro/mechanical engineering certification from the company's JLR Engineering Center and worked five years as a robot programmer. Parkinson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from USAO in 2013.

BRYAN WEYGAND - GOALKEEPER COACH Assistant coach Bryan Weygand begins his seventh season with the Hillcats this fall, working with the men’s keepers. His coaching career began at Bixby High School as an assistant from 1996-2001. Weygand coached the Hurricane Futball Club in 1999 as co-coach of the 88 boys until their graduation in 2006. Since 2002, Weygand has overseen all goalkeeper training duties within the Hurricane club including the competitive, academy and recreational divisions of the Broken Arrow Soccer Club. In his seven years as goalkeeper coach, Weygand has coached two Sooner Athletic Conference Goalkeepers of the Year. Sean Surridge was named SAC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010 and in 2011 women’s goalkeeper Chelsea McMullin was named conference Goalkeeper of the Year. Under his watch, Hillcat goalkeepers have been named SAC Defensive Player of the Week 15 times and twice a RSU keeper was named NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week. Weygand played alongside assistant coach Shawn Slater with the Tulsa Roughnecks. His professional playing career spanned from 1995-2005 in the USISL and PASL leagues. Weygand also works for Paetec Communications as an account manager. His wife Kendi is a student at RSU.

u Coach Larkin has led the Hillcat men to a 71-48-13 record over the last seven seasons.

39

MEN’S SOCCER OUTLOOK That cohesion along the back line also will help with the goalkeepers as RSU returns its two netminders from the 2013 campaign. Joey Arnold posted a 5-4-1 record last season in 11 starts recording a1.25 goals against average in a solid freshman year while junior Mitchell Penton is back after starting seven matches for the Hillcats.

The Rogers State men's soccer team looks to the experience of 19 returners for the 2014 season and Head Coach Derek Larkin turns his attention solely to the men's program after coaching both the men and women since its inception on the Hill in 2007. The Hillcats aim to improve on a substandard record from a year ago despite posting an even goal differential and never feeling out of any contest. The hope is to limit opportunities for the opposition using a veteran defense force entering its second year in the Heartland Conference.

"Joey was our starter last year and did a fantastic job and Mitch was right behind him," Larkin stated. "We brought along two new freshmen, Jack Miller and Cody Gammill, and both of them bring a lot of experience at the club level. They are really going to challenge those two keepers. Having four goalkeepers is creating a ton of competition and that is really going to help us at the goalkeeper position."

DEFENDERS/GOALKEEPERS

RSU will see some familiar faces along its back line as three starting defenders return to take their positions on the field led by 2013 First-Team All-Heartland Conference selection Mitchell Sowerby. The junior will play alongside fellow junior Caleb Pitts, who will be joined in the middle by senior Devin Zvosoc.

RSU is going to take advantage of its deep roster with everyone working together to raise the level of competition presented on the field. That has created a sense of excitement within the program as the first game looms close.

"We've got a senior, two juniors, and two junior college transfers," Larkin stated of those players vying for time as defenders. "Our back line is going to bring a tremendous amount of experience this year. Their communication is really going to help us in the long run with the tougher competition."

"Understanding, collectively as a team, how we are going to work as a group is probably the difference. I think everyone is buying into it right now and that is key with anything you are doing, no matter what system you play. If your kids buy into what you're doing, your athletes believe in it, and your coaches believe in it, you are going to be successful. Right now we have such a great group of guys that believe in what we are trying to do," Larkin said.

Juniors Lars Lindtner and Timothy Nuckols transferred to RSU from Northern Oklahoma and Western Texas, respectively, bringing collegiate awareness to an already established group. Jake Thompson is coming off his redshirt season and freshman Joshua Permaul joins the squad to aid a talented collection of backs.

FORWARDS/MIDFIELDERS

The focus during preseason training sessions has been on team defending and tightening up as a unit where the Hillcats can utilize their experience and build off last season where they combined for four shutouts, including a 110-minute blanking of nationally-ranked Northeastern State. "We are defending more as a group so that aspect is a little bit different, but the formation is generally the same. We are just going to be more tactically sound on the defensive side," Larkin added.

RSU's 2014 squad features a tremendous amount of collegiate experience as 15 of 23 players on the roster enter their junior or senior seasons, including 10 players at midfield or forward positions.

MEN’S SOCCER OUTLOOK SCHEDULE

"We've got a great group of seniors right now," Larkin said. "Redshirt senior Whellyn Carroll is coming back and Necas Collins has been an outstanding player for us the last couple years that brings a lot of experience and maturity to the team. Now we've got depth, we have experience; it's just a great position to be in for a coach."

RSU will be tested early and often during its 17-match schedule as two, preseason nationally-ranked teams are slated to come to Soldier Field in No. 10 Regis and No. 12 Midwestern State, not to mention a difficult Heartland Conference schedule. "We want to play the very best teams we can in the region and we've done that," Larkin concluded. "The level of competition is going to be what it was last year. The difference is our scheduling is spaced out a little bit better so we are not playing back-toback games. For us to be a national power we have to play the very best in the country and we are not going to shy away from playing anyone."

The team is one of the largest in program history welcoming 19 players back to campus while adding 12. The Hillcats have a number of options moving forward to control the ball in the middle of the field and push the attack. "We have some great flank players with a lot of pace that I think are going to be dangerous out wide," Larkin added. "Necas coming back up top, along with size and strength from Austin Sexton as a target player. These guys have had all last year and the year before to get to know each other and that continuity is going to be huge in the final third. Hopefully, that will lead to the production of a lot of goals."

The Hillcats kick off the season Sept. 4 heading to Southern Nazarene to face the Crimson Storm in Bethany, Oklahoma. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.

Collins looks to continue to move his way up the RSU record books after posting double-digit point totals in each of his two seasons on the Hill. The Kingston, Jamaica native tied a school record with seven assists a year ago and now ranks second alltime in that category as well as third in goals (13) and fourth in points (36). "We've brought in some players that we think can help us, but more importantly are the guys we have coming back. Walter Hubbard looks really good right now. I think Danko Kenjic is a fantastic player, a very technical player, and brings a lot to the table. Whellyn adds his experience along with Edward Hubbard. We've got a whole stable of players that we feel like can help us," Larkin stated. Joining the list of players returning for the Hillcats are juniors Nathan Garcia and Dylan Beaird along with sophomore Chris Perez. The trio combined to score four goals and 10 points last season, mainly coming off the bench, and will be relied upon heavily for minutes again in 2014. Two juniors were added to the program as Jose Antonio Escobedo and Carson Lynn will don the navy and red. Escobedo is projected to take a starting role in the midfield after transferring to the Hill from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M while Lynn follows his older sister Bailey, a former standout goalkeeper, to RSU. "We've also got some key freshmen that are really showing signs of maturity early on in Billy Cundall from England. We've got players like Jordan and Joshua Permaul that are coming in from Owasso High School that are really going to add to the depth of the team, which is something we haven’t had and will be key," Larkin said.

u Austin Sexton will round out his playing career on the Hill in 2014.

2013 MEN’S SOCCER SEASON IN REVIEW The Rogers State men’s soccer team started a new era in 2013, as the Hillcats played their first NCAA Division II schedule as a member of the Heartland Conference.

Head Coach Derek Larkin and the Hillcats ended the season with a 6-11-1 record going 4-5 in conference play finishing sixth in the 10-team Heartland Conference. Coach Larkin closed his seven-year stint in charge of both the men's and women's programs and with the addition of Head Women's Soccer Coach Heather Cato, his focus moves entirely to the men's side for 2014.

After suffering a narrow, 1-0, loss in the season opener against Southern Nazarene, the Hillcats bounced back with a 2-1 win at Ouachita Baptist as junior midfielder Niall Masterson netted the game winner. RSU registered an 8-0 win over Bacone to round out the September slate. The eight-goal dismantling was the largest margin of victory on the season and second biggest in school history behind only a 9-0 victory over Southwestern College in 2009. The Hillcats competed in the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference for the first time in 2013, tallying four conference wins in its inaugural season in the league. RSU tallied its first-ever conference win on the road with a 3-1 decision over St. Mary’s. The Hillcats followed up the victory with a scoreless double-overtime draw against regional, non-conference rival Northeastern State. Freshman goalkeeper Joey Arnold recorded his first-career shutout making a season-high eight saves blanking the nationallyranked RiverHawks for 110 minutes. RSU garnered its widest victory margin in conference play at the expense of McMurry as the Hillcats tallied a 4-0 shutout in Claremore. After an overtime loss to Lubbock Christian, RSU bounced back with a 3-1 win over Oklahoma Christian away from home. The Hillcats rounded out the home slate with a 2-0 win over Newman with Masterson tallying both goals capping the conference schedule for the season. Six games on the year were lost by one goal, including two that came in overtime, and one on the road at NCAA Division I Oral Roberts. Two Hillcats earned All-Heartland Conference Men's Soccer honors. Sophomore defender Mitchell Sowerby was named first team all-conference while Masterson earned second team recognition. Sowerby, a Newcastle, England native, started all 18 games for the Hillcats while totaling one goal and one assist. Masterson led RSU in scoring with six goals on the season. The Dublin, Ireland native added two assists for a team-leading 14 points as three players reached double-digit scoring for the Hillcats. Necas Collins tied T.J. Martin for the single-season assists record in 2013 distributing a team-high seven on the year, while netting two goals for 11 points. The junior jumped up to second on the all-time assists list while also ranking in the top five at RSU in career goals and points.

u Mitch Sowerby returns for his junior season after anchoring the Hillcat back line in 2013 earning a spot on the Heartland Conference First Team All-Conference list.

ABOUT THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE The Heartland Conference is an NCAA Division II conference, founded in 1999, that currently consists of 11 schools, six from Texas, three from Oklahoma, and one each from Arkansas and Kansas. The schools comprising the Heartland Conference stretch from as far north as Wichita, Kan., as far east as Fort Smith, Ark., as far south as Laredo, Texas, and as far west as Goodwell, Okla.. The Conference stretches over a distance of 1,050 miles north to south and 610 east to west. The schools that are in the Heartland Conference include founding members St. Edward's University (Austin, Texas), and St. Mary’s University (San Antonio, Texas), and expansion members Dallas Baptist University (Dallas, Texas) in 2002 and again in 2004, Oklahoma Panhandle State University (Goodwell, Oklahoma) in 2002, and Newman University (Wichita, Kansas), Texas A&M International University (Laredo, Texas) and The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (Odessa, Texas) in 2006, the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (2009), and Oklahoma Christian University in 2012, and Rogers State and Lubbock Christian in 2013. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are national championships in baseball, golf, swimming, basketball, softball, and nationally ranked teams in all sports. The strength of the student-athlete concept is well supported by the many NCAA scholar-athletes in each school, the high cumulative GPA of the student-athletes in each school, and the high number of student-athletes who graduate from each institution in the Heartland. The Heartland Conference is the newest of the NCAA Division II conferences. At the present time, there are 24 conferences in NCAA Division II, totaling almost 300 institutions in full or provisional status across the nation. Members of NCAA Division II believe that a well-conducted intercollegiate athletics program, based on sound educational principles and practices, is a proper part of the educational mission of a university or college and that the educational welfare of the participating student-athlete is of primary concern.

66

ABOUT THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE Members of NCAA Division II support the following principles in the belief that these objectives assist in defining the division and the possible differences between it and other divisions of the Association. This statement shall serve as a guide for the preparation of legislation by the division and for planning and implementation of programs by institutions and conferences. A member of Division II: u Believes in promoting the academic success of its student-athletes, measured in part by an institution's student-athletes graduating at least at the same rate as the institution's student body; u Believes that participation in intercollegiate athletics benefits the educational experience of its student-athletes and the entire campus community; u Believes in offering opportunities for intercollegiate athletics participation consistent with the institution's mission and philosophy; u Believes in preparing student-athletes to be good citizens, leaders and contributors in their communities; u Believes in striving for equitable participation and competitive excellence, encouraging sportsmanship and ethical conduct, enhancing diversity and developing positive societal attitudes in all of its athletics endeavors; u Believes in scheduling the majority of its athletics competition with other members of Division II, insofar as regional qualification, geographical location and traditional or conference scheduling patterns permit; u Recognizes the need to "balance" the role of the athletics program to serve both the campus (participants, student body, faculty-staff) and the general public (community, area, state); u Believes in offering opportunity for participation in intercollegiate athletics by awarding athletically related financial aid to its student-athletes; u Believes that institutional control is a fundamental principle that supports the educational mission of a Division II institution and assumes presidential involvement and commitment. All funds supporting athletics should be controlled by the institution. The emphasis for an athletics department should be to operate within an institutionally approved budget, and compliance with and self-enforcement of NCAA regulations is an expectation of membership; and u Believes that all members of Division II should commit themselves to this philosophy and to the regulations and programs of Division II.

RSU HILLCAT MEDIA SERVICES The “Hillcat” was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.

Interviews

All interviews should be setup through the sports information office. RSU head coaches are available throughout the week, mainly in the morning. Student-athletes are also available for interviews, typically right before or after practice. Most Hillcat teams practice between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the week. Requests for credentials to athletic events should be made at least 48 hours in advance of the event and directed to the sports information office. Spouses, dates, children and non-working media will not be given a pass or assigned a seat on press row. RSU does not provide parking passes to the media.

Style Guidelines u In athletic media communications and publications DO NOT use the term Lady Hillcats or Lady Cats. Hillcats, Cats, Softball Cats, Diamond Cats (baseball), etc., are acceptable u Refer to the institution as Rogers State on first mention in news releases or other communications about sporting events. The words university or college are understood in such releases, and are a commonly accepted practice within athletics.

Gameday Services

Directory

RSU’s sports information office produces media guides for most sports and game cards for home soccer matches, which include rosters and schedules. Opponents are asked to supply RSU -- either via fax, email, or with a link to availability on the web -- with detailed rosters, up-to-date statistics, and season scores for use in our game day notes no later than a day before the event. Following a home event, RSU will supply all results to both home and visiting media, as requested prior to the event. RSU always contacts the Claremore Progress, Tulsa World, Daily Oklahoman, and local TV and sports/news radio stations with scores and statistics (where applicable).

RSU HILLCAT COMPLIANCE What are Boosters permitted to do?

Booster Education for RSU Alumni, Friends & Fans

u Notify coaches about prospects in your area

Rogers State University is responsible for the actions of its coaches, student-athletes and staff, as well as its alumni, boosters and fans. The following information is intended to help educate athletic boosters and organizations, so they can best support RSU athletes without putting the institution or the individual studentathletes at risk. If you have any questions or would like to seek clarification regarding your actions as a supporter of Hillcat athletics, please call the athletic compliance office at 918-343-7988 or email RSU's NCAA Compliance Coordinator, Eddie Jackson at ejackson@rsu.edu.

u Attend athletic contests where prospects compete, but may not contact the prospect or the prospect's relatives u Continue existing friendships with families of prospects, but not attempt to recruit u Participate with prospects in organized institutional community engagement activities when prospects reside within 100-mile radius of location (Effective 8/1/07)

Enrolled Student-Athletes

What contact can Boosters have with currently enrolled studentathletes?

Boosters

What is a booster?

A booster may not provide a student-athlete any benefit or special arrangement that would not be offered to the rest of the general student population. This would include:

You are a Booster or Representative of Athletic Interests, if you: u Have participated in, or ever have been, a member of a booster organization that supports RSU athletics;

u May not entertain student-athletes or their friends or family;

u Have made any financial contribution to the RSU athletic department or any athletic organization of the University;

u May not use the name or picture of an enrolled studentathlete to advertise, recommend, or promote any product or service;

u Have been involved in the recruitment of a prospect or have been asked to assist in the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete;

u May not provide awards or gifts to student-athletes; u May not allow a student-athlete to use a telephone to make free calls, or allow use of a free or discounted auto mobile;

u Have provided or are providing benefits to an enrolled student-athlete or his or her relatives or friends; u Have otherwise been involved in promoting the RSU athletic program;

u May not provide a student-athlete free or reduced cost goods or services;

u Have helped arrange employment for student-athletes;

NOTE: An enrolled student-athlete may be invited to a booster's home for an occasional home-cooked meal, but may not be taken to a restaurant.

u Are a parent or guardian of an enrolled student-athlete; u Are or have ever been a season-ticket holder.

Employment

NOTE: Once someone has been identified as a Booster, they will retain that identity forever.

Recruiting

A student-athlete may be employed so long as compensation is only for work actually performed, at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar work, and the student-athlete was not hired based on athletics ability.

A prospective student-athlete is any person who has begun classes in the ninth grade. A prospective student-athlete remains so even after signing a National Letter of Intent or accepting financial aid and until they report for the first day of classes.

NOTE: Employment may be arranged for a prospect provided the employment does not begin before the completion of the prospect's senior year of high school.

What are Boosters prohibited from doing?

RSU is responsible for the actions of its boosters and booster support groups. Boosters are regulated by the same NCAA rules and regulations placed upon all institutional athletics staff members.

What is a prospective student-athlete?

Institutional Control

u Contacting a prospect in person on or off campus u Writing or telephoning a prospect or member of the prospect's family

Consequences

If a booster provides an impermissible benefit to a prospect, a student-athlete, or their relatives or friends, institutions may be subject to penalties, even if the student-athlete has completed his or her eligibility. A prospect or student-athlete who accepts an impermissible benefit faces the loss of eligibility.

u Making arrangements for the prospect or the prospect's relatives or friends to receive money or financial aid u Providing transportation for a prospect or the prospect's family or friends to visit the campus u Providing free tickets or reduced priced tickets to attend an athletic event to the prospect or the prospect's family or friends u Entertaining coaches of prospects

HILLCAT ATHLETIC FACILITIES

u The Hillcat Athletics Center (left) was completed in 2012 as was the artificial turf surface on Soldier Field.

Hillcat Athletics Center

The Hillcat Athletics Center for the RSU Soccer and Cross Country teams began construction in October 2011 and was completed prior to the 2012-13 academic year. The 8,986 square-foot building is located in the north end zone of Soldier Field, adjacent to Blue Starr Drive. The facility features spacious locker rooms for the men’s and women’s soccer teams as well as the men’s and women’s cross country teams. Coaches’ offices, an athletic training room, and storage areas for athletics and intramurals are located in the central area of the building. The facility also includes permanent concessions and restrooms for patrons and a paved concourse area with sightlines to the field.

Soldier Field

Soldier Field is located in the heart of the RSU campus. The facility was originally constructed as a venue for the Oklahoma Military Academy's football games. The field has been widened and resurfaced and a new digital scoreboard has been added in the south end zone. Soldier Field also features a large press box, lights, a public address system and stadium seating for a great view of the action capable of supporting 2,000 fans. The installation of artificial turf at Soldier Field began following the 2011 RSU soccer season in November 2011 and was completed in May 2012. The artificial turf surface will allow RSU to maximize the availability and functionality of historic Soldier Field. The durability of artificial turf will permit the university to utilize Soldier Field for athletic training and competition, intramural sports, and other student activities and community events.

Bushyhead Fieldhouse

Bushyhead Fieldhouse serves as the on-campus practice facility for RSU's men's and women's basketball teams. The gym recently received a complete makeover which included refurbishing and repainting the floor, the addition of six goals, digital scoreboards and the installation of portable seating with a capacity of 300. Bushyhead is also the home of the athletic department offices as well as the RSU Wellness Center - a private weight training facility for student-athletes. Bushyhead houses both the men's and women's basketball locker rooms, an athletic training room, the Hillcat Academic Center for student-athletes and public restrooms. The Hillcats play their home games in the Claremore Expo Center, located one mile south of campus.

HILLCAT ATHLETIC FACILITIES

u The centerpiece of the Diamond Sports Complex is the two-story building, completed in 2012, positioned between the baseball and softball playing fields.

Diamond Sports Complex

The Diamond Sports Complex, home to Hillcat Baseball and Softball, sits on the northwest corner of RSU's Claremore Campus featuring a professional playing surface, large inning-by-inning scoreboard, batting cages adjacent to the home dugout, and spacious grandstand and lawn chair areas for fans. A large locker room is located behind each Hillcat dugout that includes individual lockers, coaches’ offices, an athletic training area, bathrooms, showers and a 42-inch flat screen television and DVD player. Lights were installed on the field in time for the 2008 season. The centerpiece at the Diamond Sports Complex is a 7,790 square-foot, two-story building positioned between the playing fields that began construction in late July 2011 and opened in time for the start of the 2012-13 academic year. The first floor includes concessions and restrooms for patrons as well as two dressing rooms for umpires and multiple storage areas. The second floor features separate press boxes for baseball and softball, coaches’ offices, and a donors’ suite with indoor and outdoor seating. New grandstands with stadium seating, a ticket booth, and a paved entry plaza are also included.

Claremore Expo Center

Claremore Expo Center serves as the home of Hillcat Basketball on game nights. It is also utilized as a secondary practice facility for the men's and women's basketball teams. The Expo Center features arena seating on all four sides of the court for 2,000. A four-sided digital scoreboard adorns center court accompanied by professional playing goals with three-sided shot clocks on each end of the floor. A stateof-the-art sound system helps produce a fun atmosphere for fans and often creates a hostile environment for opponents. The Expo Center is located less than a mile from the RSU campus on Highway 20 in Claremore.

RSU HILLCAT TRADITIONS

Hillcat

Homecoming Week

The university’s official mascot, the “Hillcat,” is a unique blue and red animal that serves as a source of campus pride and provides a visual identity for the university’s Athletics, Student Activities, and other school spirit programs.

The university celebrated the first-ever Homecoming during the first week of November 2007, during the first Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball games. At RSU, Homecoming is a campus-wide tradition. A bonfire is typically held the night before the big games in the open area west of the University Village B student apartments.

The “Hillcat” embodies the enthusiastic, determined and bold spirit of the university’s athletic programs and the pride our students and alumni feel for the institution.

A campus office decoration competition is held during Homecoming Week, in which students and staff members compete to show their Hillcat pride.

It is a fictitious cousin of the bobcat, which is indigenous to northeast Oklahoma.

The Hillcat Hacker Invitational is a fun-filled golf event played amidst the hazards of Rogers State University’s scenic Claremore campus. The game features special nondestructive golf balls and is designed for pros, amateurs and hackers alike. The goal of this event is to generate camaraderie among the university’s friends and alumni, showcase RSU’s beautiful and historic campus and establish an outstanding Hillcat Homecoming tradition.

The mascot also draws its name from “College Hill,” a traditional nickname for RSU. The university sits atop a hill overlooking the city of Claremore. The name was conceived independently by a group of RSU students in spring 2005, and approved by the University Mascot Committee, Student Government Association, President, and Administration.

The Slam Dunk Contest and 3-point Shootout has become a yearly tradition held on the Thursday of Homecoming Week. The Homecoming Tailgate Party, held outside of the Claremore Expo Center, is one of the most popular Homecoming events for students, alumni, and the community. For more information, visit www.rsu.edu/homecoming.

The mascot was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.

RSU HILLCAT TRADITIONS

u The Hillcat tradition of “Fear the Claw” began seven years ago and has spread throughout, the student body.

Fear the Claw

Fight Song

Not long after Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball was introduced at RSU, the home court at the Claremore Expo Center quickly gained a reputation as a formidable venue for opponents. As a member of the Hillcat team aligns himself or herself on the free throw line, the crowd at the Expo Center extends one arm skyward and makes the sign of the claw with their fists.

Hillcats of RSU Standing tall in Red and Blue We will prevail We refuse to fail Because our spirit's great We wear our colors proudly On our way to victory Go Rogers State!!!

If the shot falls successfully, arms descend in the manner of the scratch of a ferocious wild cat.

Lyrics by Yvonne Pace Music by Clarence Woods/arr. Weller

As members of an opposing team prepare to shoot a free throw, the rowdy RSU student section has been known to intimidate the shooter. Depending on the shooter’s fortitude, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t!

Alma Mater

Rise above the Claremore valley Camelot to view, Stands our gracious alma mater Thrusting t’ward the blue. Lift the chorus, speed it onward For the Red and Blue, Hail to thee our alma mater Hail to R-S-U!
