Letter from the President Welcome to another exciting season of Hillcat Soccer! As Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university during the past 10 years, RSU has enjoyed dynamic growth across its entire enterprise, such as: • Increasing its student population by 75 percent while still maintaining a personalized attention to service that’s become RSU’s hallmark; • Adding new academic programs to meet the needs of Oklahoma’s business and industry; • Constructing two student apartment communities to provide the Tulsa metropolitan area’s only residential, public university; • Expanding and remodeling academic facilities to provide students with up-to-date academic resources; and • Developing strong ties with the communities we serve in order to fulfill our mission of education and service. RSU’s rapid growth also extends to our intercollegiate athletics, which are a relatively new addition after being reintroduced to campus in 2005. In only a few short years, our Hillcat teams have become a vital component of the university’s DNA providing an infectious campus spirit and a strong connection to the community. The university has invested in athletic facilities, including the new baseball/softball complex, Bushyhead Fieldhouse renovations, expansion and turf installation at Soldier Field and construction of soccer and cross country facilities on campus. We appreciate our entire student body for their support of these campus initiatives, including the student fees that funded the recently completed $4 million renovations of the soccer facilities and baseball/softball complex. Their support signals a strong vote of confidence in our athletic programs, but also represents their investment in the quality of life at Rogers State. As RSU begins its first year as a NCAA Division II candidate, this season marks our last as a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). We have appreciated the high priority these two organizations have placed on promoting healthy values, developing strong character traits, and encouraging academic achievement among all student-athletes. These are core values for RSU’s programs, and we work daily to impress them upon our student-athletes. We appreciate your interest in RSU athletics, and we look forward to another great season on the pitch. Go Hillcats! Dr. Larry Rice

President, Rogers State University

Letter from the Athletic Director Greetings from the Hill and welcome to the fifth edition of Hillcat Soccer. The RSU men’s and women’s soccer teams have enjoyed tremendous success since their inaugural seasons in 2007. Both programs have boasted double-digit win totals each and every year while also qualifying for the Sooner Athletic Conference postseason tournament. Coach Larkin and his staff have built a solid foundation for the program while also emphasizing the importance of academic success. Eleven members of the men’s and women’s soccer teams earned bachelor’s degrees last spring. We are excited to dedicate $2.5 million worth of facility enhancements for the soccer programs this fall. During the off season, Soldier Field was converted to artificial turf and a 9,000 square-foot fieldhouse for the soccer and cross country teams was built in the north end zone of Soldier Field, adjacent to Blue Starr Drive. The facility features spacious locker rooms for the men’s and women’s soccer teams as well as the men’s and women’s cross country teams. Coaches’ offices, an athletic training room, and storage areas for athletics and intramurals is located in the central area of the building. The facility also includes permanent concessions and restrooms for patrons and a paved concourse area with sightlines to the field. We are very proud of our soccer teams and excited to see what the future holds for these fledging programs. The outpouring of community support has played a huge role in our early success and will remain vital to Hillcat Athletics as we strive to raise the bar once again in 2012-2013. Thank you for all you do in support of the Hillcats! Ryan Bradley

About RSU

u RSU offer a wide variety of bachelor’s and associate degrees.

Rogers State University: A Great Oklahoma Higher Education Success Story Rogers State University holds a historic position in the annals of Oklahoma higher education. Since RSU was accredited as a four-year university in 2000, enrollment has increased by more than 75 percent, earning RSU the title of Oklahoma's fastest-growing regional university A dynamic, progressive university with more than 4,600 students, RSU is widely recognized for its high-quality academic programs, distance learning options and high-technology learning environment. RSU is the only public four-year, residential university in the Tulsa metropolitan area. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's and associate degrees. Innovative new bachelor's degrees include applied technology, environmental conservation, military history, sport management and game development. Many students from northeast Oklahoma who plan to attend medical school complete their undergraduate studies through RSU's program in medical/molecular biology. And RSU enjoys a statewide reputation for academic excellence in its nursing program.

Distinguished Academic Achievements RSU received continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools without further required evaluation for 10 years - a rarity in higher education in Oklahoma and a major accomplishment achieved by few universities. This is truly a testament to the high academic quality of RSU. RSU participates in The Washington Center Internship Program, a nationally recognized program placing students with private, public, and nonprofit organizations in Washington, D.C. Students participating in the semester-long internship earn college credit while they gain "real world" experience within their field of interest and interact with influential leaders and policymakers. RSU is one of only three universities in Oklahoma to participate in this prestigious program.

About RSU Most RSU faculty members hold doctoral degrees or the highest degrees available in their fields from esteemed institutions across the nation, including Princeton University, Duke University and the University of Oklahoma. The university’s Honors Program provides an atmosphere where scholars can challenge themselves academically to maximize their college experience through specialized courses, student/faculty joint research projects, and a strong emphasis on service learning in the community. The President's Leadership Class (PLC), a four-year scholarship program that fosters personal and professional development, was designed for RSU students who have demonstrated leadership abilities. RSU also offers study abroad programs in Italy and Wales through the University's Studies-at-Large Program. The international study programs provide students with opportunities to see the world, learn about other cultures, and enrich their educational experience.

Growth in Learning Facilities The Centennial Center, which opened in 2009, has become the centerpiece of the main campus in Claremore. This two-level, 50,000-square-foot facility combines student development programs under one roof, serves as a central location for students to study and socialize and provides a focal point for the RSU campus in Claremore. The facility also offers ballrooms, conference centers, and meeting rooms for the community. A major expansion and renovation of Baird Hall on the Claremore campus was completed in 2010. The new Baird Hall has doubled in size and contains many of the leading-edge features associated with higher learning today, including classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning outdoors on sunny days. RSU opened in September 2011 a new student apartment community that doubles the number of students living on the main campus in Claremore. The $11.5 million project accommodates up to 255 students in a three-level facility, located across the street from the present university apartments. The new 87,118-square-foot complex is located just west of Soldier Field. Stratton Taylor Library, which opened in 2004, features distinguished collections, wireless Internet, study areas, reading rooms, computer stations and classrooms. u Baird Hall features a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning on sunny days.

About RSU

u RSU is Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university.

A Brief History of RSU RSU was founded in 1909 as Eastern University Preparatory School in Claremore. The school prepared the daughters and sons of area residents to attend college. Historic Preparatory Hall, known for its iconic gold dome, was the first building on the school's campus. However, the school closed only a few years after it opened. Taking its place was the storied Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA), which operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971. Known as the “West Point of the Southwest, OMA has an extensive register of graduates who became great leaders, both in military and civilian life. More than 2,500 OMA graduates served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. More than 100 graduates gave their lives in service to their country. In 1971, OMA closed and Claremore Junior College opened on the Hill, serving more than 400 students. The junior college grew rapidly in the 1970s, and by the time it was renamed Rogers State College in 1982, the institution boasted a variety of associate degree programs, distance learning capabilities, a new radio and television station and intercollegiate athletics. In 1999, the Oklahoma Legislature renamed the institution Rogers State University and charged it with seeking accreditation as a four-year university. Accreditation at the baccalaureate level was granted in 2000. Today, RSU is one of Oklahoma's fastest-growing universities, offering a wide variety of bachelor's degree programs to more than 4,600 students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville, Pryor and online.

Hillcat LIFE Programs

u The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship are addressed in the Champions of Character program.

Academic Development The Rogers State University Student-Athlete Academic Development (SAAD) program is designed to support Hillcat athletes as they strive for success in the classroom and reach their educational and career goals. The program provides academic support such as advisement, subject tutors, and learning groups for each RSU student-athlete. Study sessions are designed specifically for each athletic program, and student-athletes are given the opportunity to work with tutors trained in their particular area of academic study. The goal of the SAAD program is to help all athletes grow into responsible adults as they become upperclassmen and take initiative to be personally responsible for their education and their future. The Student-Athlete Academic Development program, led by Dr. Brian Andrews, is there every step of the way for all athletes, to ensure they are pursuing a degree that will support their personal goals and prepare them for life after college.

Hillcat LIFE Programs The Hillcat LIFE programs are designed to promote student-athletes’ success off the field or court. Each year, RSU introduces a variety of programs to enrich the college experience of its student-athletes, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and giving them information useful when making important life decisions. The following are some examples of Hillcat LIFE programs: Etiquette training: Student-athletes are instructed on proper dining habits, dating manners and courtesies. Each athlete is given a demonstration on the proper etiquette at formal meals. Drug and Alcohol Counseling: Student-athletes are made aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. They are given examples of athletes with promising futures who failed to reach their potential due to drug/alcohol abuse. “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time…” Seminar: This presentation attempts to enlighten student-athletes about the existing legal realities associated with various acts they likely deem benign and provokes introspection that will lead to more careful decision making.

5

Hillcat LIFE Programs Nutrition Counseling: A nutritionist meets with student-athletes to discuss healthy meal choices and life styles. Athletes are given an overview of different types of foods and how they affect the human body. Dangers of Gambling: Student-athletes are warned about the dangers of gambling addictions and also are warned against gambling on collegiate athletics, which is a violation of NAIA and NCAA rules. RSU athletics continues to expand its programs in order to provide a well-rounded education for all Hillcat athletes.

Champions of Character The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program is designed to instill an understanding of character values in sport, and provide practical tools for student-athletes, coaches and parents to use in modeling exemplary character traits. Launched by the NAIA in 2000, the Champions of Character program addresses character issues more comprehensively than any other national program for youth. The program currently reaches hundreds of thousands of students on nearly 300 college and university campuses in North America and extends into their surrounding communities. The NAIA has been informally teaching character development through athletics for decades. The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship are addressed comprehensively in the Champions of Character program. The NAIA Champions of Character program is an educational outreach initiative that emphasizes the tenets of character and integrity, not only for NAIA college students, but for younger students, coaches and parents in our communities. Coaches, parents, administrators and community partners all have a role in developing students of character. The NAIA Champions of Character program brings them training, guidelines and behavior models to create positive environments that promote personal growth and fun sport activity.

u Rogers State has annually been recognized as a NAIA Champion of Character since the inception of athletics.

Before coming to the Hill, Larkin enjoyed success as the head boy’s soccer coach at Bishop Kelley High School from 2004-06. He led the Comets to back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006. Larkin previously served as the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Bacone College from 2002 to 2004. He was named the Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 after leading the Lady Warriors to the conference championship. Larkin also juggled “double duty” as both the men’s and women’s head soccer coach at Missouri Valley College from 1997 to 1999 and at Catoosa High School from 1999 to 2002. He compiled six district championships at Catoosa and was honored as the head coach of the Oklahoma All-State team in 2002.

Men’s Soccer Outlook Outlook

Forwards

The 2012 season brings about several new faces to the RSU men’s soccer team as the Hillcats lost nine starters from a year ago. Head Soccer Coach Derek Larkin has brought in several newcomers to fill the void and come together with the returners. RSU made tremendous strides during the 2011 season as they work to become one of the primer programs in the region.

With the loss of seniors Henrique Sousa and T.J. Martin, Mohammad Shaban is the lone returner on the front line. The Tulsa, Okla. native had a standout freshman season where he led the Hillcat offense with eight goals and two assists. Coach Larkin has brought in several new faces who could be immediate contributors to the offense. “The exciting thing is we didn’t really have a go-to-guy on the front line last year,” Larkin said. “This year Mohammad is coming back after a very big freshman year and we have high expectations for him. But not only do we have high hopes for Mohammad but also Division I transfer from Jamaica Necas Collins who can add explosiveness to our front line. Dillion Beaird from Union High School is a very talented player as a freshman. We have four or five really good players that I think will be really fun to watch.”

“It’s always a challenge when you lose such great players all at once,” Larkin said. “We lost a large number of kids last year and it is an obstacle we had to overcome. We worked very hard in the off season, bringing in a lot of new players and good talent. We are really, really excited about the level of play. Some international flair and some very good local players that have come together great. So far, they have been much better than we had expected, the talent is there it’s just a matter of putting it all together. “ The Hillcats have produced a 10 or more win season over the past five years and they are looking to take the next step as a program.

Midfielders Senior Gary Arauz is the lone starting midfielder left from the 2011 season. He played in 18 games, starting in 16, controlling the RSU midfield.

“Obviously our expectations are the national tournament and we are capable,” Larkin said. “We are just a game away every year. By our conference only taking one team each year it’s a hurdle we have to overcome. We feel we have the talent to do it but a lot of things have to fall into place for that to happen. We have to be peaking at the right time and you have to have luck on your side but we hope this is the year. The great thing about the whole team is for the first time in a long time we have a lot of depth. We have 28 guys right now and every one of them can contribute. It will be fun to see it play out this year.”

“We are completely starting over in the midfield,” Larkin said. “We’ve got Gary Arauz coming back who is a senior that transferred from Oral Roberts last season and Adam Harmon was a freshman that started in there last year. Matt Levenson, a transfer from Northern Junior College, along with Niall Masterson who transferred in from Coffeyville are really good players who will be impact players in the midfield. We are really excited about our midfielders this year. There are so many players that can help us so we’re excited to see how it all plays out.” u Mohammed Shaban forward

Men’s Soccer Outlook Defenders

The Rogers State men’s soccer team was ranked No.6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Poll. Coach Larkin’s squad finished fifth in the league in 2011, going 5-4-1 in the SAC with an 11-8-1 overall record. The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma was the unanimous No. 1 pick of the SAC men’s soccer coaches to win the 2012 conference title. The Drovers have won two of the last three league titles and captured the 2011 crown by seven points.

Bryan Jones returns for his senior campaign and will anchor the RSU defense. The Tulsa, Okla. product has been a mainstay for the Hillcats on the back line for the last two seasons and Coach Larkin is expecting him to do the same in 2012. “We are excited for Bryan Jones,” Larkin said. “It’s his senior year and he looks better than he ever has. I think we’re surrounding him with really good players. He’s a senior and we expect big things. He can definitely be an anchor back there. We have a lot of new, young players that we hope will be solid additions. Kaspars Kokis, who is a local player from Owasso, will step in and help us along with transfers Adam Young and Kevin Howard. English centerback Mitchell Sowerby will also be an immediate impact player. We just have a whole plethora of backs that we feel will help us.”

Goalkeepers With the loss of goalkeeper Jeremy Swift, the Hillcats will put the bulk of the weight on senior Nathan Inger’s shoulders. Inger started in six of the eight contests he played in during his first season on the Hill in 2011. He transferred to RSU after playing at Northern Oklahoma College. Redshirt freshman Mitchell Penton will also be vying for time in goal. “It’ll be a battle between Nathan Inger and Mitchell Penton for the starting spot,” Larkin said. “Nate spent a lot of time in the off season playing in the professional development league. He’s fit, he’s ready to go, and he’s true leader as a senior. We really feel like he’s the guy we can count on. We’re excited to see how he plays.”

Schedule Coach Larkin has put together a challenging schedule for the Hillcats as they prepare for the rigors of Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Hillcats have three teams on their schedule who are ranked in the top 10 of the NAIA Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll. “Our conference is so tough top to bottom,” Larkin said. But our non-conference schedule is just as tough. Our second road game of the season is against regional rival Oklahoma Wesleyan who received a lot of votes and is ranked No. 23. We will play them along with some really tough opponents like Southwestern Christian, Friends University, No.8 Hannibal LaGrange, and No. 10 Missouri Valley. Our non-conference is strong enough that if we do well we’ll be able to move into the top 25.”

2011 Men’s Soccer Season In Review The Rogers State men’s soccer team reached the postseason for the fifth consecutive season in 2011, tallying its fifth year with 10 or more wins.

Sousa also received Capital One Academic All-American second team honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior was only the second Hillcat to receive the honor. He graduated from RSU in May with a business management degree, boasting a 3.50 GPA.

The Hillcats opened the 2011 slate by winning four of their first five matches. In their season opener, the men earned a 2-0 win over regional rival Oklahoma Wesleyan in front of over 500 fans at Soldier Field. RSU dropped its first road match of the season to then-No.14 Missouri Valley 2-1 but bounced back with three consecutive wins in Claremore.

The Hillcats ended the season with a record of 11-8-1. Six seniors played their final game in Hillcat red and blue: Marko Bukva, Ryan Coffman, Griffin Kane, T.J. Martin, Henrique Sousa, and Chase Walker. Coach Larkin and the 18 players returning will look to bring home their first conference title in 2012.

Coach Derek Larkin’s squad opened SAC play with a crushing 2-1 overtime loss to Wayland Baptist. The Pioneers tallied the game-winner off a penalty kick in the 99th minute. RSU fell to Lubbock Christian two days later before getting back on the right track with wins over Mid-America Christian and St. Gregory’s. The Cats rounded out the conference slate with a 5-4-1 record, clinching a spot in the SAC Tournament for the fifth straight season. The Hillcats secured a 2-0 win at John Brown in the opening round of the tournament before ending their season in the semifinals as LCU tallied a 1-0 victory over RSU in Texas. The RSU goalkeeping duo of Nathan Inger and Jeremy Swift each received Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. During the week of September 5-11 Inger, a junior goalkeeper from Lawton, Okla., posted a shutout in his RSU debut against Avila (Kan.), leading the Hillcats to a 1-0 week to earn the honor. Swift, a freshman goalkeeper from Bixby, Okla., earned the final conference weekly award of the year as he led the Hillcats past John Brown on the road twice in one week. A trio of Rogers State men’s soccer players earned All-Sooner Athletic Conference honors. Senior Henrique Sousa headlined the group, being named first team all-conference. Women’s Soccer Outlook The Rogers State women’s soccer team looks to build upon the program’s success from the 2011 season and make a run at both a Sooner Athletic Conference title and a bid to the NAIA Tournament in 2012. The Hillcats closed out last season with a 10-7-3 overall record, and went 6-4-1 in SAC action.

Sophomore Tara Garrett made a big impact on the field last season but moving to the forward position will be a little different look for her than a year ago. The team’s defensive player of the year might be making a move to the front line. Veteran Lauren Hager also returns to the lineup for her senior campaign.

Head Coach Derek Larkin and his staff are integrating ten new faces with their talented returning veterans. The Hillcats return 17 players from the squad that advanced to the SAC semifinals in 2011, losing just four starters.

“With the addition of some newcomers who can fill the void on the back line, we are hoping to move Tara Garrett to the front line,” Larkin said. “I think she can be an added spark to our offense. Redshirt freshman Rachel Coen could come in and contribute along with Lauren Hager who has scored many goals for us over the last three years. We have a lot of girls we can go to this year to score for us.”

“Anytime you have as many returners as we do your expectations go up,” Larkin said. “We have a lot of good solid players coming back and with the addition of some of the new talent coming in it should be a great year. We have high expectations. We were semifinalist in the conference last year and with the players coming back and the new players great things can happen.”

Midfielders RSU’s midfield will provide the team with a diverse set of talents that will make them assets all over the field. The youthful group features one senior and should be a strength for years to come. Blair Thomas started all 20 games in the midfield for the Hillcats as a true freshman in 2011. Junior Melissa Subu started in 13 of the team’s 20 games last year and finished second in goals scored, netting seven on the season. Veronica Subu is the lone senior in the midfield, having started in all 20 games in her first season on the Hill in 2011.

The Hillcats have compiled 10 or more wins in a season in each of the last five years and are looking to take the next step in 2012: a bid to the national tournament. “Make no bones about it; we want to be at the national tournament,” Larkin said. “That is where the bar is set. We have had a team win the conference championship, been to the regional finals and we have been just a game or two away, so the national tournament is what we are trying to achieve.”

“Blair Thomas, Melissa Subu, and Veronica Subu will all return in the midfield but we have several newcomers that will contribute as well,” Larkin said. “Freshman Carly Johnson is a very good player and could contribute immediately along with Raquel Chavez who redshirted last season after transferring from Drury.”

Forwards With one season under her belt, sophomore Jordan Beasley will be looked upon by the Hillcat coaching staff to have a big season. The Lafayette, La. native started in all 20 games for the Hillcats as a freshman in 2011. She scored a team-high eight goals, notched two assists and was named second team All-Sooner Athletic Conference.

Johnson was a four-year varsity letter-winner at Bixby High School. As a senior she was the team captain and named to the 6A All-State team. Chavez came to RSU after one season at Drury University (Mo.). In high school she helped Bishop Kelly earn three state titles. u Melissa Subu

“We hope to see Jordan have a breakout season,” Larkin said. “She had a solid freshman year, scoring several goals for us and she is a very talented player. We hope that with a little bit of maturity she will be able to produce a little more for us.”

Women’s Soccer Outlook Defenders

The Hillcats will open the season at home on August 24th against Missouri Baptist before traveling just down the road to take on NCAA Division I opponent Oral Roberts on August 26.

Returning a number of talented and experienced defensive players from last year should prove to be beneficial for the Hillcats.

RSU open’s the conference slate at home against powerhouse Oklahoma City University who is ranked No. 11 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches Top 25 Poll. RSU will follow up that game with a trip to Chickasha, Okla. to take on defending SAC Tournament Champions USAO who is ranked No. 24 in the country.

“We have several upperclassman that we expect big things from on our back line this season,” Larkin said. “Jessica Turner, Lauren LaForce and Cierra Lohaus are all versed in our system. Jianna Piela is coming back from a great freshman year where she started every game. These players with the addition of ORU transfer Mikella Schexnider and Santiago Community College transfer Haley Wenlock are upperclassmen that played at a high level and should be very solid on the back line.” A transfer from Oral Roberts (Okla.), Schexnider had an impressive prep career at Charles Page High School in Sand Springs, Okla. As a Sandite she was a three-time all-district performer while earning all-conference and all-state accolades her senior year.

Goalkeepers Possibly the most difficult position to replace will be in the net. Coach Larkin must find someone to replace two-year starter and Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Chelsea McMullin. “There is no doubt the loss of Chelsea McMullin is a hurdle that we must overcome but we are extremely confident in the players that we have,” Larkin said. “Jordan Harris is from Claremore and played at UMKC as a freshman. She played several games last season and is going to be someone that we really look to lead this team and there is no doubt she can, she is an outstanding goalkeeper. Freshman Rebekah Meeks will also be in the mix to help Jordan out at the goalkeeper position.”

Schedule Picked to finish fifth in the Sooner Athletic Conference by the league’s coaches, Larkin has put together a challenging schedule for the Hillcats in 2012. “To make the national tournament you need to play a really good non-conference schedule and we have really beefed up ours this year,” Larkin said. “We are playing NCAA Division I opponent ORU along with Oklahoma Wesleyan and Ottawa who are both receiving vote. Those games lead to our first two conference games against Oklahoma City and USAO who are both in the Top 25. Our first seven or eight games are going to be true battles for us.”

2011 Women’s Soccer Season In Review The Rogers State women’s soccer team finished the year with 10 or more wins for the fifth consecutive season and clinched a postseason berth for the fifth-straight year.

notched a team-best eight goals while dishing out two assists. Three of her goals were game-winners. Juniors Lauren Hager and Jessica Turner were named NAIA Scholar Athletes. Hager, a Belgrade, Mont. native, is majoring in Medical and Molecular Biology while Turner, from Ponca City, Okla. is majoring in Liberal Arts.

The Hillcats kicked off the season with a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan at Soldier Field in front of over 500 fans. They followed the win with back-to-back double overtime ties against Missouri Valley and Avila (Mo.).

Seniors Shereen Clarke, Chelsea Myers and Abby Rickner ended their careers in Hillcat red and blue. Head Coach Derek Larkin has 13 players slated to return for the 2012 season as the Hillcats look to earn a spot at the NAIA Tournament for the first time in program history.

After suffering its first loss of the season to NCAA Division I opponent Oral Roberts, RSU went on to win four straight, including wins over a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference foes from West Texas, Wayland Baptist and Lubbock Christian. The Cats hit a lull in October dropping four successive contests; two of the losses were 1-0 decisions. In their 10 loss to Oklahoma Christian, the Hillcats outshot the Lady Eagles 20-6 and fired 13 shots on frame. RSU bounced back with four straight conference wins; three of them were shutouts as the Cats allowed just one goal over four games. The Hillcats settled for a 2-2 draw on Senior Night against SAC foe Oklahoma Baptist and fell in their final regular season contest to John Brown 10 in double overtime. The Hillcats battled the Golden Eagles for 109 minutes before JBU took home the victory as the game-winning goal was scored with 48 seconds remaining in overtime. With their backs against the wall, the Hillcats found a way to register a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over OBU in the opening round of the SAC Tournament at Bison Field, sending the Cats to the semifinals. Their season came to an end in the semifinals as top-seeded Oklahoma City University earned a 1-0 victory at Stars Field. After battling the No. 14-ranked Stars to a scoreless draw in the opening half, the Hillcats gave up the game winning goal in the 66th minute of play. Chelsea McMullin was named Sooner Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year while freshmen Jordan Beasley and Jianna Piela earned second team allconference honors. McMullin, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, registered 99 saves on the season to go with six shutouts. She was named SAC Defensive Player of the Week four times throughout the year and garnered NAIA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors. She played in all 20 games, starting in 18 contests. The Hillcat goalkeeper was also named first team all-conference. Piela, a Muskogee, Okla. native, started in all 20 contests on the back line as a true freshman. The defender tallied one goal on the season. Beasley hails from Lafayette, La. and started in all 20 games last season. She

RSU Hillcat Sports Information Services Interviews

The “Hillcat” was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.

All interviews should be setup through the sports information office. RSU head coaches are available throughout the week, mainly in the morning. Student-athletes are also available for interviews, typically right before or after practice. Most Hillcat teams practice between 3:00 p.m and 5:00 p.m. during the week. Credentials Request for credentials to athletic events should be made at least 48 hours in advance of the event and directed to the sports information office. Spouses, dates, children and non-working media will not be given a pass or assigned a seat on press row. RSU does not provide parking passes to the media.

Style Guidelines u When making a proper name ending in s possessive, DO NOT add an s: i.e. Coach Dicus’, NOT Coach Dicus’s. u In athletic media communications and publications, DO NOT use the term Lady Hillcats or Lady Cats. Hillcats, Cats, Softball Cats, Diamond Cats (baseball), etc. are acceptable. u Refer to the institution as Rogers State on first mention in news releases or other communications about sports events. The words university or college are understood in such releases, and are a commonly accepted practice within athletics.

Gameday Services RSU’s sports information office produces media guides for most sports and game notes for men’s and women’s basketball games, which include rosters, schedules and statistical leaders. Opponents are asked to supply RSU -- either via fax, email or with a link to availability on the web -- with detailed rosters, upto-date statistics and season scores, for use in our game day notes no later than a day before the event. Following a home event, RSU will supply all results to both home and visiting media. RSU always contacts the Claremore Progress, Tulsa World, Daily Oklahoman, and local TV and sports/news radio stations with scores and statistics (where applicable).

What Is A Hillcat?

Steve Braun, Sports Information Director sbraun@rsu.edu | 918-343-7989

The university’s official mascot, the “Hillcat,” is a unique blue and red animal that serves as a source of campus pride and provides a visual identity for the university’s Athletic, Student Activities, and other school spirit programs. The Hillcat embodies the enthusiastic, determined and bold spirit of the university’s athletic programs and the pride our students and alumni feel for the institution.

Soccer Coaches

Derek Larkin, Head Coach dlarkin@rsu.edu | 918-343-7995 Shawn Slater, Assistant Coach sslater@rsu.edu | 918-343-7995 Bryan Weygand, Assistant Coach 918-343-7995

The “Hillcat” is a fictitious cousin of the bobcat, which is indigenous to northeast Oklahoma. The “Hillcat” also draws its name from “College Hill,” a traditional nickname for RSU. The university sits atop a hill overlooking the city of Claremore.

RSU Hillcat Compliance What are Boosters permitted to do?

Booster Education for RSU Alumni, Friends & Fans

u Notify coaches about prospects in your area

Rogers State University is responsible for the actions of its coaches, student-athletes and staff, as well as its alumni, boosters and fans. The following information is intended to help educate athletic boosters and organizations, so they can best support RSU athletes without putting the institution or the individual student-athletes at risk. If you have any questions or would like to seek clarification regarding your actions as a supporter of Hillcat athletics, please call the athletic compliance office at (918) 343-7988 or email RSU's NCAA Compliance Coordinator, Eddie Jackson at ejackson@rsu.edu.

u Attend athletic contests where prospects compete, but may not contact the prospect or the prospect's relatives u Continue existing friendships with families of prospects, but not attempt to recruit u Participate with prospects in organized institutional community engagement activities when prospects reside within 100-mile radius of location (Effective 8/1/07)

Enrolled Student-Athletes What contact can Boosters have with currently enrolled student-athletes?

Boosters What is a booster?

A booster may not provide a student-athlete any benefit or special arrangement that would not be offered to the rest of the general student population. This would include:

You are a Booster or Representative of Athletic Interests, if you: u Have participated in, or ever have been, a member of a booster organization that supports RSU athletics;

u May not entertain student-athletes or their friends or family;

u Have made any financial contribution to the RSU athletic department or any athletic organization of the University;

u May not use the name or picture of an enrolled studentathlete to advertise, recommend, or promote any product or service;

u Have been involved in the recruitment of a prospect or have been asked to assist in the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete;

u May not provide awards or gifts to student-athletes; u May not allow a student-athlete to use a telephone to make free calls, or allow use of a free or discounted auto mobile;

u Have provided or are providing benefits to an enrolled student-athlete or his or her relatives or friends; u Have otherwise been involved in promoting the RSU athletic program;

u May not provide a student-athlete free or reduced cost goods or services;

u Have helped arrange employment for student-athletes;

NOTE: An enrolled student-athlete may be invited to a booster's home for an occasional home-cooked meal, but may not be taken to a restaurant.

u Are a parent or guardian of an enrolled student-athlete; u Are or have ever been a season-ticket holder. NOTE: Once someone has been identified as a Booster, they will retain that identity forever.

Employment A student-athlete may be employed so long as compensation is only for work actually performed, at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar work, and the student-athlete was not hired based on athletics ability.

Recruiting What is a prospective student-athlete? A prospective student-athlete is any person who has begun classes in the ninth grade. A prospective student-athlete remains so even after signing a National Letter of Intent or accepting financial aid and until they report for the first day of classes.

NOTE: Employment may be arranged for a prospect provided the employment does not begin before the completion of the prospect's senior year of high school.

Institutional Control RSU is responsible for the actions of its boosters and booster support groups. Boosters are regulated by the same NCAA rules and regulations placed upon all institutional athletics staff members.

What are Boosters prohibited from doing? u Contacting a prospect in person on or off campus u Writing or telephoning a prospect or member of the prospect's family

Consequences If a booster provides an impermissible benefit to a prospect, a student-athlete, or their relatives or friends, institutions may be subject to penalties, even if the student-athlete has completed his or her eligibility. A prospect or student-athlete who accepts an impermissible benefit faces the loss of eligibility.

u Making arrangements for the prospect or the prospect's relatives or friends to receive money or financial aid u Providing transportation for a prospect or the prospect's family or friends to visit the campus u Providing free tickets or reduced priced tickets to attend an athletic event to the prospect or the prospect's family or friends u Entertaining coaches of prospects

Hillcat Soccer Facilities

u Soldier Field is home to Rogers State’s men’s and women’s soccer programs.

Soldier Field: Home of Hillcat Soccer Soldier Field is located in the heart of the RSU campus. The facility was originally constructed as a venue for the Oklahoma Military Academy's football games. The field has been widened and resurfaced and a new digital scoreboard has been added in the south end zone. Soldier Field also features a large press box, lights, a public address system and stadium seating for a great view of the action. Installation of the new artificial field turf began following the conclusion of the 2011 RSU soccer season in November 2011 and was completed in May 2012. The artificial turf surface will allow RSU to maximize the availability and functionality of historic Soldier Field. The durability of artificial turf will permit the university to utilize Soldier Field for athletic training and competition, intramural sports, and other student activities and community events. The Soccer/Cross Country Fieldhouse for the RSU soccer and cross country teams began construction in October 2011 and was completed prior to the 2012-13 academic year. The 8,986 square-foot building is located in the north end zone of Soldier Field, adjacent to Blue Starr Drive. The facility features spacious locker rooms for the men’s and women’s soccer teams as well as the men’s and women’s cross country teams. Coaches’ offices, an athletic training room, and storage areas for athletics and intramurals are located in the central area of the building. The facility also includes permanent concessions and restrooms for patrons and a paved concourse area with sightlines to the field along with an additional scoreboard located on top of the building.

Haley is a 2010 Rogers State graduate and is a familiar face on the Claremore campus having served as Sports Editor of The Hillpost his senior year. He most recently served as the play-by-play voice of RSU Baseball and Softball calling the action as the Diamond Cats made a NAIA World Series run in 2012. Haley is a member of RSU Radio’s Claremore Zebra Football broadcasts beginning his fifth season on the broadcast and third as color commentator. As a student at RSU, Haley was host of “ClawTalk” on RSU Radio a weekly sports talk show covering all things Hillcat Athletics. No stranger to area sports he has contributed to the Tulsa World for the last two years. A former RSU forward, Baker played in 26 games over two seasons from 2009-10. Baker transferred to the Hill from Missouri Southern State University where he was a two-year starter at forward. An Oklahoma City native, he was an allconference strong safety at Putnam City High School. Sports Information Director Steve Braun will provide play-by-play commentary on occasional broadcasts during the 2012 season. Braun begins his sixth year working with Hillcat Athletics and has called RSU Soccer, Basketball, Baseball and Softball. He also has experience working for both KTBZ am1430 the BUZZ Tulsa and KYAL 97.1FM the Sports Animal Tulsa. When not describing the play, Braun will produce the live video streaming broadcast of every home soccer match. Live internet streaming broadcasts will be provided at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.

“I was looking for a university where I would be more than a face in the crowd. At Rogers State University, I’m a member of the Honors Program and the varsity cheerleading squad, all while pursuing my degree in medical/molecular biology. I don’t know for sure where I’ll be ten years from now but I do know I’ll be working in the medical field and my education will have prepared me to be successful. RSU has given me so many opportunities that I would not have gotten at other schools. For that, I’ll always be grateful.”
