Letter from the President Welcome to a new season of exciting RSU Hillcat Baseball!

As many of you know, our athletic programs, although just a few years in existence, have experienced tremendous success. The RSU baseball and softball teams performed quite well during their fourth season, and the attendance and enthusiasm of fans was tremendous.

Since becoming president of this great institution, I have been as impressed by the sportsmanship of our student-athletes as I have the quality of our athletic programs. I also have been impressed by the academic achievements of our student-athletes, who have experienced success in the classroom as well as on the playing field.

Letter from the Athletic Director Welcome to Hillcat baseball! It's with great excitement and anticipation that we embark on our fifth season of baseball at RSU. Last year marked another successful campaign for Coach Bradley's Hillcats, and we are expecting another promising spring in 2010. The immediate success of RSU athletics has garnered national attention for our university and community, and we are honored you have chosen to join us for this exciting time in the growth of Hillcat athletics.

Rarely in life does one get the chance to be a part of something at the foundation level. However, here at RSU we are all doing just that. The players, coaches, and fans are building our athletic tradition together from the ground up. We hope that you enjoy your afternoons and evenings spent cheering on our team at the Hillcat Complex. Growth in Learning Facilities The new Centennial Center is a two-level, 50,000square-foot facility that combines student development programs under one roof, serves as a central location for students to study and socialize, and provides a focal point for the RSU campus in Claremore. The facility also offers expanded ballrooms, conference centers, and meeting rooms for the community.

A major expansion and renovation of Baird Hall on the Claremore campus is underway. New student housing on the Claremore campus will be available in 2011. The recent expansion of the RSU campus in Pryor has resulted in a doubling of the campus facility, more classes, and more students. The state-of-the-art Stratton Taylor Library opened in 2004. The library features distinguished collections, wireless Internet, study areas, reading rooms, computer stations, classrooms, and a coffee bar. u The Centennial Center opened on the the Claremore campus last year.

About RSU A Brief History of RSU RSU was founded in 1909 as Eastern University Preparatory School in Claremore. The school prepared the daughters and sons of area residents to attend college. Historic Preparatory Hall, known for its iconic gold dome, was the first building on the school's campus. However, the school closed only a few years after it opened. Taking its place was the storied Oklahoma Military Academy, which operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971. Known as the â&#x20AC;&#x153;West Point of the Southwest,â&#x20AC;? the OMA has an extensive register of graduates who became great leaders, both in military and civilian life. More than 2,500 OMA graduates served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. More than 100 graduates gave their lives in service to their country.

In 1971, the OMA closed and Claremore Junior College opened on the Hill, serving more than 400 students. The junior college grew rapidly in the 1970s, and by the time it was renamed Rogers State College in 1982, the institution boasted a variety of associate degree programs, distance learning capabilities, a new radio and television station, and intercollegiate athletics. In 1999, the Oklahoma Legislature renamed the institution Rogers State University and charged it with seeking accreditation as a four-year university. Accreditation at the baccalaurete level was granted less than two years later in 2000.

Hillcat LIFE Programs Academic Development The Rogers State University Student-Athlete Academic Development (SAAD) program is designed to support Hillcat athletes as they strive for success in the classroom and reach their educational and career goals. The program provides academic support such as advisement, subject tutors, and learning groups for each RSU student-athlete. Study sessions are designed specifically for each athletic program, and student-athletes are given the opportunity to work with tutors trained in their particular area of academic study. It is the goal of the SAAD program to help the athletes grow into responsible adults as they become upperclassmen and take the initiative to be personally responsible for their education and their future.

The Student-Athlete Academic Development program, led by Jared Hood, will be there every step of the way for all the athletes to ensure they are pursuing a degree that will support their personal goals and prepare them for life after college.

Hillcat LIFE Programs The Hillcat LIFE programs are designed to promote studentathletes’ success off the field or court. Each year RSU introduces a variety of programs that will help enrich the college experience of its student-athletes, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and giving them information useful when making important life decisions. The following are some examples of Hillcat LIFE programs: Etiquette Training: Student-athletes are instructed on proper dining habits and dating manners and courtesies. Each athlete is given a demonstration on the proper etiquette at formal meals.

u RSU student-athletes have access to individual tutors to ensure they get the academic support they need.

Drug and Alcohol Counseling: Student-athletes are made aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. They are given examples of athletes with promising futures who failed to reach their potential due to drug/alcohol abuse. “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time…” Seminar: This presentation attempts to elighten student-athletes about the existing legal realities associated with various acts they likely deem benign and provokes introspection that will lead to more careful decision making. Nutrition Counseling: A nutritionist meets with student-athletes to discuss healthy meal choices and lifestyles. Athletes are given an overview of different types of foods and how they affect the human body.

Hillcat LIFE Programs Dangers of Gambling: Student-athletes are warned about the dangers of gambling addictions and also are warned against gambling on collegiate athletics, which is a violation of NAIA and NCAA rules. RSU athletics continues to expand its programs in order to provide a well-rounded education for all Hillcat athletes.

Champions of Character

u The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship are addressed in the Champions of Character program.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program is designed to instill an understanding of character values in sports and provide practical tools for student-athletes, coaches, and parents to use in modeling exemplary character traits. Launched by the NAIA in 2000, the Champions of Character program addresses character issues more comprehensively than any other national program for youth. The program currently reaches hundreds of thousands of students on nearly 300 college and university campuses in North America and extends into their surrounding communities.

u RSU strives to develop its student-athletes both on and off the field.

The NAIA has been informally teaching character development through athletics for decades. The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship are addressed comprehensively in the Champions of Character program. The NAIA Champions of Character program is an educational outreach initiative that emphasizes the tenets of character and integrity, not only for NAIA college students, but for younger students, coaches, and parents in our communities. Coaches, parents, administrators, and community partners all have a role in developing students of character. The NAIA Champions of Character program brings them training, guidelines, and behavior models to create positive environments that promote personal growth and fun sport activity.

2010 Baseball Season Outlook The Rogers State baseball program enters the 2010 season aiming to regain its footing as a rising star in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Last season the SAC not only produced the 2009 NAIA National Champion, Lubbock Christian, but also placed four teams in the final national rankings and sent two teams to the World Series. The Diamond Cats believe they are in position to join the ranks of national contenders as they take the field in 2010.

The Hillcats suffered a minor setback in their climb to the top with a disappointing finish in 2009. However, with the heart of the batting order set to return and a large crop of coveted recruits now in the fold, RSU will look to join the league's elite programs this spring.

RETURNERS Only 11 players who saw game action for the Cats in 2009 are back for the 2010 campaign. Although small in number, the veterans should provide a strong anchor for a talented ball club.

“I feel like our pitching staff, with the arms that we've added, is going to give us the opportunity to compete on a national level,” RSU Head Coach Ron Bradley said. “We have some key returners back on offense, and our defense should continue to be a strength for us, so we're looking to take a big step forward this year.”

Fifth-year senior Zach Hamby headlines the list of returners. Hamby put up monster numbers during his first two seasons on the Hill, setting team single-season records for hits, doubles, total bases, and slugging percentage among others. The Tahlequah, Okla., native is on pace to shatter the RSU career home run record with 24 dingers entering his final season.

Rob Rodriguez, Joe Manbodh, and Luis Caraballo return to their respective spots on the Hillcat infield. Rodriguez finished second on the team in home runs and RBI as the Cats' everyday first baseman in 2009. Manbodh hit .367 while handling the bulk of the catching duties, and Caraballo was a defensive standout in his first season as the RSU shortstop. Senior Tyler Harold will also have a chance to crack the starting lineup in the outfield after serving as the team's primary courtesy/pinch-runner the past two seasons. Senior Grant Cosby will once again be a fixture in Diamond Cats' starting rotation. The right-hander posted five wins and three complete games in 2009. Cosby has a career record of 10-2 and has amassed 86 strikeouts and just 22 walks during his three years at RSU. Seniors Cristian Baez, DJ Thompson, and Jake Taylor, along with sophomore Josh Phillippi, will also provide valuable experience for the Hillcat pitching staff. “This is a very talented group of veteran players,” Bradley noted. “Most of them have been with us for a couple of years and they know exactly what it takes to compete and win in the Sooner Athletic Conference.”

2010 Baseball Season Outlook NEWCOMERS The Hillcats added quality and quantity to their pitching staff by signing five left-handed hurlers and a pair of hard-throwing righties for the spring. Junior right-hander Tyler Garner is expected to step in immediately as a weekend starter after serving as the ace of the Carl Albert staff in 2009. Jacob Weenas, a 6-7 southpaw from Connors State, and Jordan Clark, a 6-5 righty from Seminole State, will also vie for a spot in the starting rotation. Left-handers Drew Taylor, Jim Miner, and Casey Cassity should help provide depth in the RSU bullpen.

Sophomore catcher Lance Rymel also transferred from Seminole State and will see significant time behind the plate, while junior Colton West will take over at third base after starting for two seasons at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Bradley labeled Rymel as “one of the best throwing catchers in the state,” and called West “a plus defender who hits for both average and power.” Two familiar faces will also make their official Hillcat debut in 2010. Juniors Kevin Radford and Brandt Barnes redshirted after transferring to RSU in January 2009. Both players run well and hit from the left side and both will have the opportunity to crack the starting lineup in the outfield. Sophomore Billy Balak and junior Pau Sancho are also expected to compete for playing time on the infield. Redshirt freshman Steven Smith impressed the coaching staff with his power in the fall and will likely get some at-bats this spring, while true freshman Keith Poverud could also provide depth in the RSU outfield. “Overall we're very pleased with this recruiting class,” Bradley said. “We feel like we addressed our biggest needs and also added some depth to our bench and our bullpen, which should pay dividends once conference play begins.”

2010 Baseball Season Outlook

The Hillcats will also play a home-and-home series with regional foe Oklahoma Wesleyan and will host Northeastern State for a nine-inning contest on April 20. RSU will close out the regular season with a threegame set against Oklahoma Christian.

RSU will play at home early and often in 2010 with 32 home games scheduled for the Hillcat Complex. The Cats will open the season with a 12-game home stand featuring four NAIA programs from Kansas.

EXPECTATIONS

The Hillcats open conference play at St. Gregory's on Feb. 25, before facing a gauntlet of perennial contenders in March. RSU is scheduled to play the projected top six teams in the SAC in succession beginning with a home-and-home series against rival Oklahoma Baptist March 4-6. The defending NAIA National Champions, Lubbock Christian, will visit Claremore for a three-game series March 18-19, and 2009 national semi-finalist Oklahoma City is slated for a trip to Rogers County on Saturday, March 27.

RSU enters the 2010 season armed with young talent and veteran leadership in key positions. Now in their fifth season of baseball competition and third as a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference, the Diamond Cats believe they have positioned themselves to take the next step in the evolution of their budding program. “We're still aiming for our first 40-win season,” Bradley said. “Winning 40 games will not only be a milestone achievement for our program, but we believe it will set us up for a chance to play in the National Tournament and compete for a World Series berth.”

“How we perform during the month of March is really going to be the key to our whole season,” Bradley stated. “If we can hold our own against those clubs, we should be in great position to advance to the postseason.”

The road to 40 wins begins on Feb. 6.

Ron Bradley - Head Baseball Coach Head Baseball Coach Ron Bradley is a member of Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association (OBCA) Hall of Fame, Class of 2003.

leading RSU to its third consecutive winning season. Bradley's Hillcats have posted a 104-84 record in four seasons as an NAIA member institution. He and his wife Jill reside in Claremore. They have two grown children: Ryan, who is the assistant athletic director for media relations and communications at RSU, and Kayla, an elementary school teacher in Edmond, Okla.

He began his collegiate coaching career at RSU in 2004 after compiling one of the most successful high school baseball coaching resumes in Oklahoma history. Most recently, Bradley was named the Oklahoma College Baseball Coach of the Year by his peers in January 2009. His career accomplishments include four state championships in four different classifications (2A, 4A, 5A, 6A), one state runner-up, and eleven regional championships. He tallied nearly 500 career victories in his 21 years as a head coach at the high school level and holds the unique distinction of winning the first baseball state championship at West Fork (Ark.), Claremore (Okla.), and Jenks (Okla.) high schools. Bradley took Claremore to the state championship game three different times and reached at least the semi-final round in all three seasons he coached at Class 6A power Jenks High School. Bradley has been selected Oklahoma Coach of the Year three times by The Daily Oklahoman and Tulsa World. He has also been honored with two National Region Coach of the Year Awards and is a five-time OBCA Coach of the Year. In 1998 he led the Oklahoma Senior Sunbelt team to its first ever Sunbelt Series Championship. Bradley has also been honored with coaching duties in the Oklahoma All-State game, Sooner State games, and numerous other all-star competitions. More than a dozen of Bradley's former players have been selected in the Major League Baseball amateur draft, two of which have reached the big leagues. Bradley has been a keynote speaker at the state and national level and is highly regarded in the baseball coaching community for his philosophies on hitting and his ability to build championship programs. Bradley laid the foundation for athletics at RSU when he introduced club sports to the campus as the director of physical education in 2004. He later served as interim athletic director and remains instrumental in the development of RSU athletic programs. Bradley guided the Hillcats to their first winning season in 2007 with a 28-23 record. He followed that up with a 35-16 record in 2008 and a fourth-place finish as a first-year member of the prestigious Sooner Athletic Conference. Robert Brown - Assistant Baseball Coach Assistant Coach Robert Brown has been a part of the RSU baseball program since its inception. Brown joined Head Coach Ron Bradley to develop the Hillcat baseball program in 2004. He previously served as an assistant coach at Virginia's Radford University, an NCAA Division I school in the Big South Conference. His duties at Radford were primarily pitching, defense, and recruiting. Brown also served as the head coach of the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley League for two seasons. Prior to his work with Waynesboro, Brown worked as an assistant coach at Collinsville High School as well as a stint at Oklahoma Junior College in Oklahoma City. Brown guided the RSU pitching staff to a program-best 35-16 record in 2008. The Hillcat hurlers posted a 3.97 team ERA and racked up 299 strikeouts compared to just 132 walks in 2007. Along with his coaching at RSU, Brown enjoys being a clinical speaker and private pitching instructor.

Ryan Brittle - Assistant Baseball Coach Ryan Brittle joined the RSU baseball staff in 2007 after spending nine years as an assistant at the Division I level. Brittle worked for seven years as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Radford University before joining the Hillcats. He led the Highlanders to five conference tournament appearances and a fourth-place finish in the Big South Conference. Prior to working at Radford, Brittle served a two-year stint at Virginia Tech where he helped the Hokies claim back-to-back Atlantic 10 Conference championships. Brittle also played for the Hokies and graduated from VT with a B.S. in forestry. His primary duties at RSU include working with infielders and hitting instruction. In his first year with the program, the Hillcats set team records for batting average, slugging, and home runs. Under Brittle's guidance, RSU raised the bar with its offensive numbers again in 2009. Brittle also serves as the third base coach for the Hillcats.

Jimmy Rogers - Assistant Baseball Coach Jimmy Rogers brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the Major Leagues to the Hillcats. Rogers joined the RSU coaching staff in 2007 and works primarily with the pitching staff. A former big leaguer, he spent two seasons in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays. Rogers graduated from Tulsa Webster High School in 1985 and was an all-state selection while leading the Warriors to a state championship. He pitched for two seasons at Seminole State College and was drafted by Toronto in the 1986 amateur draft. Rogers lives in Beggs and enjoys giving personal pitching instruction when not working with the Hillcats.

Hillcat Baseball 2009 Season in Review The Rogers State baseball program posted its third consecutive winning season with a 29-21 mark in 2009. The Hillcats continued to build on their reputation as a contender in the Sooner Athletic Conference, but lacked the consistency needed to compete for their first World Series berth.

Although the conference slate proved to be a rocky road, RSU flexed its muscle during the non-conference portion of the schedule. The Cats went 16-5 against non-SAC opponents and earned notable victories over Kansas Wesleyan, Texas Wesleyan, and regional-rival Northeastern State.

“I felt like we had our most talented team to date in 2009,” RSU Head Coach Ron Bradley said. “In that regard I feel like we underachieved in terms of wins and losses. We struggled with a lack of pitching depth and lost a number of close games by giving up the lead late. Those four or five games we let slip away really prevented us from having the type of season we were hoping for.”

RSU continued its tradition of dominance on the home turf by going 20-11 at the Hillcat Complex. The Hillcats have posted a 56-31 record at their Claremore park since it opened in 2007. The RSU offense rewrote the record books for the second consecutive spring with a deep and powerful lineup. Junior Zach Hamby set new team marks for hits, doubles, total bases, and RBI on his way to earning second-team all-conference accolades. Senior Coby Wright posted a record .428 batting average to go along with a .559 onbase percentage, and senior outfielder Brandon Denton was named to the SAC Gold Glove team for his stellar defensive play in centerfield. The Hillcats' seven seniors each made significant contributions in their final season on the Hill.

RSU rattled off seven straight victories following a 1-0 loss to Doane College in the season opener. The hot streak included a four-game sweep of Kansas Wesleyan, which finished the season ranked in the Top 25. However, the Cats were quickly brought back to earth with the start of conference play. RSU dropped three games by a total of six runs to USAO in the first SAC series of the year. The sweep put the Hillcats in a deep hole and forced them to play catch-up in the conference standings for the rest of the season.

“We had a very special group of seniors,” Bradley said. “Those guys laid the foundation for our recruiting and will be able to look back on their careers knowing they had a major impact on the development of the RSU baseball program.”

RSU bounced back by taking two of three games from Northwestern Oklahoma State, but was swept again the following week by second-ranked Oklahoma City. The Diamond Cats earned their only conference sweep of the spring against St. Gregory's in mid-March. Coach Bradley's club held its own the rest of the way, notching series wins over Oklahoma Baptist and MidAmerica Christian and stealing victories against a pair of ranked foes: Wayland Baptist and Lubbock Christian. Beating the top-ranked Chaparrals on their home field was easily the pinnacle of the spring. RSU handed LCU its worst home loss in nearly a decade with an 18-8 decision that snapped the Chaps 16-game winning streak. The Diamond Cats belted five home runs in the contest and received a gutsy complete-game performance from junior hurler Grant Cosby. LCU went on to claim its second NAIA National Championship a month later.

u 2009 senior Ryan Littlejohn belted 21 home runs and drove in more than 100 runs during his three years with the Hillcats.

“There's no doubt that the highlight of our season was going to Lubbock Christian and beating them on their home field,” Bradley said. “That allowed us to realize that we're knocking on the door and our program is on the verge of making a mark on the national scene.”

New Construction at the Hillcat Complex

u The RSU athletic department recently unveiled its plans for the completion of the Hillcat Baseball and Softball Complex.

These are exciting times on â&#x20AC;&#x153;The Hillâ&#x20AC;? in Claremore. RSU is experiencing unparalleled growth as one of Oklahoma's fastest-growing universities while our emerging athletic programs have enjoyed unprecedented success since their inception in 2006. RSU's rapid development brings with it a new level of expectations and a number of needs for improvement and expansion. We believe that now is the optimal time to begin a lasting partnership with RSU and Hillcat Athletics.

Providing our student-athletes with elite-level playing and training facilities is among our highest priorities during this crucial stage in our development. Completion of our new baseball and softball complex is at the top of our list. RSU is currently seeking donations and sponsorship opportunities for the facility with a fundraising goal of $500,000. These contributions will allow us to complete the third and final phase of construction at the complex, which will include additional grandstands, public restrooms, concessions, coaches' offices, a meeting room, central courtyard and much more. The completed facility will serve as the region's premiere multi-purpose athletic facility and afford RSU the opportunity to host multiple high-profile regional and national sporting events each year.
