GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL

GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL

By Mr DAVID JOE WILLIAMS, Ilfracombe Round Table

Ican almost guarantee everyone reading this has once played a racing game on a gaming console or Pc. Some of my earliest gaming memories are going around my mate's house and playing Mario Kart. The other day when I played Mario Kart with my girlfriend's family,

I felt young again. It made me remember how fun a racing game can be and how I can get very competitive.

Racing games are probably some of the best games to play with family. With so many great Racing game franchises, you are spoilt for choice, so let me review some of my personal favourites.

MARIO KART

Mario Kart is a well-known game fi rst launched by Nintendo in 1992. The game involves you, the player, driving around a racetrack based in the Mario world as a Mario character. It's the perfect game for kids and families. During the race, you can pick up boxes that give you things to hopefully mess up your race for your opponents or give you a boost. It is the only racing game where throwing a banana peel at other racers isn't considered unsporting.

F1'22

For all you Formula 1 racing fans, F1 '22 is the game for you. On the 1st of July this year, developers Codemasters and publishers EA Sports released the latest F1 racing game. Every part of Formula 1 has been recreated to experience it all for yourself. The only game that lets you race Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton to the fi nish line. The game simulates race conditions and gives you control of your race, from picking how many pit stops or choosing tire compounds. The game simulates weather conditions. This can change your car's performance, so you may need to adapt. Things can go wrong during any F1 race, so the developers have decided they would simulate this. During a race, your car can break, and if you don't manage your tires properly, they will give up on you. This game also lets you create your own F1 team, and yes, I created a team called Round Table, who won the championship with my amazing management skill. I highly recommend this game to any F1 fan, and it's available on Xbox and PlayStation now.
