ROUND PLAYBLE
ROUND
PLAYBLE
By Mr MIKAEL HEDMAN, RT 120, Sweden
Game Master Hedman, now Game Master 'National IRO' Hedman is back with even more game tips. Hope you all had a great summer out there! I myself have had time for quite a lot, barbecue, kayaking, Rammstein concert, board game evenings, beer and whiskey. A simply lovely summer. But nevermind, here are three tips!
DEEP SEA ADVENTURE
rating: ●●●●●○○
A fun game that you can also travel with as it fi ts in a small box that can almost be kept in your pocket. You are all divers competing to dive for the most desirable treasures, the deeper you dive the more valuable treasures. What is the problem then? Well, you share the air you breathe and the air starts ticking down as soon as someone picks up a treasure. The more treasures players pick up, the faster the air disappears. If the air meter goes down to 0 while someone is underwater, then they lose the treasures they tried to pick up. After three rounds, everyone turns over their treasure tiles and adds up the points that are there, the most points wins. Entertaining and fairly fast played with a focus on risk and reward.
SKULL & ROSES RED
rating: ?
I haven't played this myself, but a past Tabler and fellow nerd (Alfred Janson past National president) told me about it. But it should be a game in a small package, which goes well with some form of alcoholic drink. No complicated rules, anyone can learn it quickly, but you should have a good poker face. You can be up to 6 players, a game I look forward to trying!
MANSIONS OF MADNESS
(2ND EDITIoN)
rating: ●●●●●●●
Now we are deep in the gambling quagmire, gentlemen. Here we have an expensive package with many rules, nothing for the faint of heart! It's probably the game I myself threw the most money at, because believe it or not, there are expensive expansions for this abomination too.
Not only does the game take up an entire dining table, the larger version also requires an app and a screen to have the app on, preferably a TV. You all play as investigators in the 1930s, so you each get a unique character with their own abilities and skills. You have to solve a mystery together, there are several different adventures to choose from, we're talking co-op here. It could be a murdered person, strange noises in someone's basement, all with a sense of dread and intangible fear of the unknown.
The app acts as your common enemy or Game Master. This is damn fun and has a rulebook that is the best I've come across actually. 1-5 players can play this. However, expect it to take 5–7 hours the fi rst few times, after that you can probably reduce the time to the time stated on the respective adventure, but expect +1h .
