the so-called library room teaching the grade twelves, who sometimes tried his patience. He realizes, after 25 years, that it must’ve been hard handling a gaggle of students “some of whom thought they were smarter than they actually were - all with grace.”

Anoop can also recall Dr. Collett, who helped drive the class to Bridgeland

Elementary to do some science experiments. “I recall two things: Dr. Collett was a careful driver and he had one nice ride!”

After all these years, some things about Rundle have really stuck with

Anoop, such as the motto, Attendo ad Excellsiora, which he uses as a standard for excellence. He also feels that the other students and their kindness and positivity has left a mark on him; “Rundle College gave me the temperament and the

this world.” He feels that it is powerful, being able to have small class

sizes and connect with the students and teachers around you. He also

states that he definitely was interested in going into business in high school; later on in life, he was able to achieve this dream.

Some advice that he would give to current graduating students is: “Study hard, listen to your mother, polish your shoes and press your clothes, do what you like, don’t be afraid of making mistakes, and keep in touch with your friends and teachers, they’ll really appreciate it.” He then goes on to tell us a quote from his good friend, “‘Your attitude determines your altitude’, which basically means if you have a good outlook on life and a good constitution and you don’t sweat the small stuff, you’ll go places.”

Finally, he compares Rundle College in 1989 to Rundle in 2016 in saying that the size of the school has changed greatly, and he reflects on the success that the school has experienced over the years. “You can’t build Rome in a day.” he says. “But I feel like it’s more important to ask me what hasn’t changed, and what hasn’t changed is walking around the school and seeing that ‘esprit de corps’, seeing the kids run around the school, seeing the art on the walls - it’s nice to see the burgundy uniforms, (I’m not sure I could still fit in my uniform)” he laughs. Anoop wraps up with the sense of closeness within the school, and how it’s still present in Rundle College, and though the size, the students, and the teachers have changed, the feeling of community hasn’t changed, and it will continue to live on within the halls of Rundle College.

“Thirty years old, and looking not a day over twenty...twenty-five, tops. Congratulations, Rundle College!

Now, sadly, my "Most Likely To ..." entry from the 2003 yearbook has not come to pass (those rascals picked me as “most likely to win an Oscar” when I, at best, am more likely to get "Best Hip-Hop/Soul" in the P3 Gulds). However, there's still my novel "The Best and Wisest Man" (pick it up online or at Pages in Kensington!), forthcoming short stories in a horror anthology and on a science fiction website, along with a few acting credits in Calgary community theatre.

And I blush to note that my valedictorian speech from all those years ago has racked up 178 views on YouTube (while you’re in a nostalgic mood, why not check it out?)! As for my equally improbably-named brother Fergus (Crawford ‘05), he’s doing great things in the world-renowned Prairie Horticulture course at Olds, well on his way to a career in the wild, fixing this all-too-damaged planet of ours (oh, the arguments we have over what goes in the compost ... court cases have been wrapped up faster).

And I’m pleased that school friends have remained close over the years--last summer alone I was shuttling between Calgary, Canmore, and Vancouver for the weddings of Andrew Hopkinson ‘03, Mike Haws ‘03, and Steve Richards ‘03. I know what you’re asking: will it be long before the Crawford knot is tied? Well ... yes, probably. I attach a picture of myself with fellow ne’er-do-wells Luke Demjen ‘03 and Jordan Fleming ‘03, at the Hopkinson nuptials. When they told us we could have a helicopter ride, we assumed we’d be inside it ... Well, here’s to the next thirty, you old devils! Many happy returns!”

After graduating from Rundle College, Alexandra Shiels ‘05 started at the University of Calgary in biological sciences. She had always intended to work in the medical profession and saw a bachelor degree as her first step in working toward medical school. After the first couple of years of university, Alexandra went on a trip to

Haiti that changed her life and professional direction. She knew becoming a Registered

Nurse was what she wanted to dedicate her life’s work to. 2005

In 2008, Alexandra started the bachelor of nursing program at the University of Lethbridge and finished one semester early and began applying for jobs. She had always known she wanted to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), however she knew it might be unlikely that she would obtain a job as a new graduate. Wanting to stand out from other applicants, Alexandra applied for a postbasic certificate program in neonatal nursing and was accepted into their distance education program. After over 110 applications to nursing positions throughout Calgary, she finally received an interview for the job of her dreams!

Alexandra has worked at the Peter Lougheed Center’s NICU since 2012 where she takes care of all newborns, from the very premature, to full-term babies. Each day, she takes care of two or three babies and their families and teaches babies how to eat and teaches parents how to bathe and care for their newborns. Alexandra is also part of the team that assists deliveries to help ensure each baby makes a safe entrance into the world.

Every day is different for Alexandra, and for her, it’s the best job in the world! Last year she completed her post-basic certificate and had the opportunity to take a practicum both in the community and at the Foothills Hospital NICU. Alexandra likes that the profession of nursing has an extremely varied group of people, and the opportunities that the profession provides are endless.

“I am very proud to call myself a Registered Nurse.” Graeham Douglas ‘06 has been a member of the Cambridge University Eco-Racing (CUER) team for two years, after previously being a member of the UBC Solar Car Team. CUER’s car takes one passenger (the driver), and uses only the power of the sun to drive at highway speeds! Graeham designed the steering and suspension on CUER’s 2015 car. 2006

In spite of working on solar cars for almost seven years, this was Graeham’s first race. CUER and Graeham had a major disappointment in 2013: their solar car crashed two days before the race and they were forced to withdraw from the event. The team was determined to redeem themselves in 2015!

CUER had several setbacks leading up to the race. Most critically, their motor broke a few days before the event. Things were looking similar to 2013 - dire! The motor is one of the few parts on the car CUER didn’t build themselves, and it had an eight-week lead time.

Fortunately, Solar Car Team Nuon from Delft, Netherlands loaned CUER a part from their old motor. After a nerve-racking day of rebuilding the motor with their stator, CUER was back on the road!

as possible. Outside temperatures are over 40C and driving stints can be three hours or more. The is no air conditioning or entertainment system.

Graeham was part of the team supporting the solar car. He drove a truck and trailer behind the solar car to pick it up if it broke down. At nights, he was part of the team to do maintenance on the car. He also was part of the team to set up the solar panel at 4:30AM to catch the sun’s first rays.

The solar car team is a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience in design, project management, and teamwork. Many of CUER’s alumni end up at top automotive organizations, including Jaguar Landrover and Formula 1 teams. There are so many facets of the project: solar, electrical, mechanical, aerodynamics, race strategy, and fundraising. Failure in any one of these, inevitably leads to failure of the project as a whole. CUER had its best result ever in 2015, and the things they learned will prepare the team to do even better in the next race!

Upon graduating from Mount Royal University with a Bachelor’s of Communications Degree, Jordan Eldridge ‘08

“To those students currently at Rundle College Junior/Senior High School, let me tell you something, no matter how long the journey is, or what tribulations you

may face, never halt at reaching your goals. I have been attempting to gain entry into medical school since I left Rundle, and had been disappointed time and time again, but I never gave up. Finally I was accepted, and am soon going into my second year of medicine. Don’t give up on what you know will make you happy. Remember, to do what you love, and love what you do.” Vanessa Awad ‘10

This spring/summer season, Samantha will be a Senior Orientation Leader and a full-time camp counsellor at Kids Cancer Care Foundation’s - Camp Kindle. Great job, Samantha, for continuing to volunteer your time to support this important cause! 2013

Taylor Caldwell ‘13 is finishing his third year of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University, and is having a great time. He has met so many great friends, and he stays involved by participating in numerous events, clubs, and design teams.

Specifically this year, Taylor was the Safety Director of the Queen’s Bridge Building Team. The team is assigned the task of designing and building one-metre long bridges made only of popsicle sticks, glue, and dental floss. Teams show their bridges at CSCE’s Troitsky Bridge Building Competition hosted in Montreal, where they are tested and compared with other bridges constructed by various universities throughout Canada. Although this may seem trivial, some of these bridges can hold up to 4 tonnes when effective engineering p r i n c i p l e s are put to use - that’s equivalent to the weight of an elephant or mid-sized car! Being involved in activities on campus has allowed Taylor to enjoy life outside of school, and helped him create career opportunities.

In the summer, Taylor will begin a 15-month engineering internship with Ferrovial Agroman in Mississauga, Ontario. Ferrovial Agroman is an engineering company based out of Spain that is internationally renowned for its design capacity and construction of exceptional projects; primarily its major transport infrastructures. After his internship, Taylor will return to Queen’s to complete his final year and receive his much desired Iron Ring!

Jordan Ng ‘14 is currently studying to be a veterinarian at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.
