ADVANCEMENT CHAIR'S
MESSAGE
JON MCKENZIE
As a proud Rundle alumni parent, I have been continuously inspired by the school’s unwavering commitment to creating a nurturing and engaging educational experience. Rundle is a place where each student receives the personalized attention they need to succeed in an ever-changing world.
The values that Rundle upholds reflect not only my own values, but also the hopes I have for the future of our community. These principles guide our efforts to build a growing culture of giving at Rundle, where support is seen as essential to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.
This past year, I have been inspired by the visible growth in understanding and support of giving within the Rundle community. Together, our community achieved remarkable milestones raising over $1 million to fully fund the Belt Hall project, and supporting 100% of eligible bursary applicants through donations to our student bursary programs. We also saw record-breaking contributions to the Head of School Fund and our Rundle campus funds. These achievements underscore the strength and generosity of our community.
As chair of the Advancement Committee, I am proud of the strides we’ve made.
It is heartening to see how our shared belief in Rundle’s mission, vision, and values has translated into a deeper commitment to supporting the schools and its students. The culture of giving at Rundle is growing, and it is through this collective effort that we are making a lasting impact.
I have always believed in the importance of giving back – whether through time, talents, or resources – and it has been an honour to lead this committee in support of Rundle’s advancement. I remain deeply committed to helping build a culture of giving that ensures Rundle continues to be a place where all students can thrive.
On behalf of the entire Advancement Committee and Rundle’s Board of Directors thank you for your ongoing support of our students and our schools. Your generosity makes all the difference.
HEAD OF SCHOOL'S
MESSAGE
DR. JASON ROGERS
As both the Head of School and a parent at Rundle, I have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the profound impact that giving has on our community. The generosity of our donors is more than just a financial contribution; it is a commitment to the future of our students, and to the continued growth and excellence of our schools.
At Rundle, we are constantly striving to provide the best possible environment for our students; spaces that inspire learning, foster curiosity, and build character. The spirit of Rundle, this relentless pursuit of growth and improvement, is at the core of who we are. But to truly realize this vision, we need the support of our entire community.
Giving at Rundle is not just about building new facilities or launching new programs, it’s about moving the needle on our impact. More children deserve access to the worldclass education that Rundle offers, and giving plays a crucial role in making this a reality. It’s about ensuring that every child who walks through our doors is equipped to thrive in the world beyond our campus. It’s about creating opportunities where none existed before, and preparing our students to make meaningful contributions to our city, province, country, and world.
As a parent, I give because I believe in the mission, vision, and values of Rundle, and because I want my own children, and all children, to benefit from the best education possible. The greatest gift I can give to my own children is to provide them with an education that inspires them to live a life of kindness, curiosity, and wellness.
With your ongoing support, the future of Rundle is bright. There are no limits to what we can achieve together.
On behalf of everyone here at Rundle, thank you for being a part of this journey. Your generosity is not just shaping the future of Rundle but the future of every student who calls Rundle home.
DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT'S MESSAGE
NICOLE TITTERTON
I am honoured and beyond thrilled to be a part of this incredible community by advancing the mission, vision, and values of Rundle through the power of giving. As a born and raised Calgarian, I have dedicated the most recent years of my career to the sustainable improvement of our community, and it is an honour to continue this work at Rundle through our students and remarkable future leaders.
Growing up just a two-minute drive from Rundle's College campus, I was aware of the school for many years. However, it wasn't until fall 2023 that I truly became acquainted with the incomparable work happening within the physical walls of Rundle College and Academy, and the virtual walls of Rundle Studio. During that time, I had the pleasure of supporting Rundle's Annual Fund as a consultant. Through this engagement I had the opportunity to meet and interview several inspiring students, and engage with countless staff and faculty members. I was consistently blown away by the dedication, passion, and sense of community I encountered. I recall a moment early on when I said to my husband, "What do we have to do to get our kids into Rundle?"
As a mother to two young children, Sawyer (7) and Hayden (5), I am acutely aware of the importance of a nurturing and enriching educational environment that meets kids where they are at. It is my privilege to contribute to and work for an institution that not only sees students excel academically, but one that also instils in them the importance of responsibility, care, and community leadership.
Your generous support makes all of this possible. The culture of giving at Rundle is thriving, and it is because of donors like you that we can continue to provide exceptional opportunities for our students. Together, we are making a lasting impact on the lives of young people and building a brighter future for our community.
On behalf of the entire advancement team here at Rundle, thank you for your continued support and commitment. I look forward to working with you and seeing the incredible impact we will make together.

A Greater Great Hall
Within seconds of the start of the 2024-25 school year, as the first students walked into the College 7-12 building, it was apparent to all that the renovation of the Great Hall was nothing short of remarkable.
With mouths agape and eyes darting around to take in every square inch of updated space, students happy to see one another after summer break were evidently even more excited to catch up in a beautiful new Great Hall.
“It made the start of the year extra special for us getting to see our students engaged in this space that we had
been dreaming of for so long,” says Anna Miller, College Junior High Principal.
Through the summer months, the space was gutted –top to bottom – and renovated, with new flooring, lighting, and beautiful new millwork. Most importantly, the space was redesigned with low-distraction learning and socializing spaces, and flexible furniture. It also integrates innovation and technology designed to cater to the needs of different learning styles.
The renovation was only made possible thanks to the generosity of the Rundle community. The capital
campaign began last fall as part of the Annual Fund, and an anonymous community donor launched an incredible $500,000 matching challenge. By May, we were excited to announce we had reached our fundraising goal.
“By investing in the school's infrastructure, we ensure that future generations of students can enjoy the same transformative experience that my family did,” says Glen Gray, an alumni parent and a donor to the Great Hall project. “I am confident that my donation will positively impact the lives of students and their families for years to come."
This is the first capital project in Rundle’s history to be fully funded by community giving. It is a significant milestone as we continue to build a culture of giving and it is a testament to the power of collective impact.
“It’s a remarkable achievement and it goes to show that our community recognizes the importance of fostering welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant spaces for our students,” says Dr. Jason Rogers. “Thank you to all of our donors for your investment not just in the school but in the future of our community.”
As the new school year got underway and students settled into the Great Hall, they’ve taken advantage of the new features, seating areas, nooks, and crannies to socialize with one another. It was also the perfect venue to host our College parent social events, as a way to highlight the transformation.
The last stage of the renovation was completed on September 26, as we hosted a naming ceremony to celebrate the official name announcement for the space: Belt Hall. The anonymous donor chose to honour Allison Belt to recognize the impact she had on their family and on the lives of thousands of Rundle students and alumni.
thank this donor for entrusting Rundle with their child’s or children’s education journey. There are many people who played a role – I only had a small part to play. … As long as I’ve been here, everything I’ve strived to do has been to honour the original mission of [founders] Dr. Conklin and Dr. Collett. When people see the name Belt Hall, I want them to think of it more as a continued commitment to our founders’ fundamental vision for Rundle. ”
Belt Hall serves as inspiration for future transformational growth at Rundle and we look forward to bringing our community together in the space that truly reflects the commitment and excellence of our programs and of our faculty and staff.

Why I Give Sonya Brown Tisdall
Sonya Brown Tisdall’s dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive educational environment for neurodivergent children and adults is nothing short of inspiring. Her unwavering commitment to Rundle and Rundle Studio stems from a deeply personal journey, one marked by both profound loss and newfound understanding.
Sonya’s passion for supporting people is deeply rooted in her own life experiences. Her daughter, Sigourney, attended Rundle College from preschool to graduation, and had an experience that was both academically enriching and personally transformative. Unfortunately, this period of their lives was also punctuated by a time of immense grief for their family.
Just before Christmas 2016, Sonya and Sigourney faced the tragic and unexpected loss of their husband and father, Douglas Tisdall, followed by the loss of Douglas’s mother a short time later. These heartbreaking events forged an unbreakable bond between mother, daughter, family, and the entire Rundle community. Sonya says the students, faculty, and staff at Rundle played a crucial role in supporting them through this difficult time and the challenging years that followed.
In the wake of these losses, Sonya embarked on a personal journey of self-discovery.
No stranger to personal hardship and self-advocacy, having experienced several health challenges since the age of 5, Sonya finally received a combined assessment and prognosis of ADHD/Autism Synesthete - Autoimmune. For Sonya, having this language and understanding of her brain and how it worked alongside her body illuminated her understanding about parts of herself that had previously been a source of confusion and frustration for her and those around her. This diagnosis opened up a new world of empathy, as she began to see her own challenges reflected in the experiences of children with learning differences and neurodiversity.
Aware of Sonya’s determination to make a difference in the world of neurodiverse learners, Dr. Jason Rogers and John Wolf connected with Sonya to share plans for Rundle Studio. She was moved by the Studio's dedication to supporting students’ need for a safe environment, while providing them with the incomparable Rundle Academy educational approach for students with learning disabilities.
“Rundle Studio, under the guidance of John Wolf and Dr. Rogers, is a school that researches and promotes not only acceptance of neurodiverse learners, but also celebrates them and guides them towards unlocking their full potential,” she says.
“Rundle Studio...is a school that researches and promotes not only acceptance of neurodiverse learners, but also celebrates them and guides them towards unlocking their full potential.”
Sonya’s ongoing support of Rundle Studio and all Rundle schools is a testament to her belief in the school’s mission.
She sees Rundle Studio as a beacon of hope and a model for what inclusive education can achieve in both life and academics.
Sonya’s hopes for a future that includes a greater level of awareness and acceptance of neurodiversity. In collaboration with others, Sonya and Rundle alike dream of a world where people with learning disabilities and neurodivergence are not stigmatized but celebrated for their unique gifts and talents. Not one to simply dream, Sonya is taking action through her support of Rundle, obtaining her BSc in neuroscience, and by humanizing the neurodivergent experience through her satirical writing.
In honouring Sonya’s story, we celebrate not only her generosity towards Rundle but also her resilience and unwavering commitment to making the world a more inclusive and understanding place. Her journey with Rundle and the Studio is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have in transforming lives and fostering acceptance.
Why I Give Chris Chan
Chris Chan, a dedicated Rundle parent, board member, and donor, embodies the spirit of giving back to a community that has profoundly impacted his family. His family's journey with Rundle began when his eldest daughter was researching schools in Calgary, seeking a nurturing and academically enriching environment. With Rundle's mission to “create a personalized education that prepares students for an ever-changing world”, the choice was clear. Chris, his wife, and their family found Rundle to be the perfect fit, offering small class sizes and a dual focus on developing both academic excellence and character.
For Chris, Rundle’s values of “Together: Be Kind, Be Curious, Be Well” resonate deeply. He appreciates how Rundle fosters kindness and curiosity, encouraging students to not only excel academically but also to become compassionate and inquisitive individuals. The emphasis on well-being ensures that students are supported in all aspects of their growth, a priority for Chris and his wife as they watch their children thrive.
experience. His commitment is evident in the many ways Chris gives back, inspired by the gratitude he feels for the life he leads.
Chris explains, “I am the luckiest guy on the planet. I have a wonderful career, a loving family, and I live in the best city in the best country in the world. If I'm feeling that fortunate, there's a duty to give back.” This sense of duty drives Chris to dedicate a significant portion of his time to philanthropic efforts, recognizing the importance of contributing to the community that has given him so much.
Although Chris humbly admits he isn’t as involved in his children’s day-to-day school activities, his contributions to Rundle go well beyond his children’s academic
Chris’s perspective on education and community is shaped by his own experiences. Growing up, he struggled through his educational experience, often feeling out of place and unable to focus. Reflecting on his academic challenges, Chris believes that had he had access to a school like Rundle, his school experience

might have been different. He sees the importance of supporting institutions that cater to diverse learning needs, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to succeed.
Rundle’s impact on Chris’s children is undeniable. His kids have thrived in an environment surrounded by talented peers and supportive teachers. They’ve participated in a variety of co-curricular activities, from athletics to leadership roles, which have helped them develop well-rounded skills and confidence. Chris notes, “Rundle has been great for our kids. It’s given them the push they need to excel and become great people.”
One of the standout moments for Chris was seeing his children develop the ability to confidently interact with adults, a skill often overlooked in today’s technologydriven world. He recalls with pride how his children can make eye contact and engage in meaningful conversations, attributing this to the values instilled at Rundle.
Chris’s commitment to Rundle transcends his family’s direct experience. His involvement in fundraising and volunteer efforts, particularly on behalf of Rundle
Academy, highlights his dedication to creating lasting change. Chris’s family firmly believes in the importance of supporting diverse learners and celebrating their future contributions to society. They are dedicated to Rundle’s philosophy of meeting students where they are at and ensuring they find the right fit in their educational journey. This commitment to individualized learning is a cause that Chris and his family passionately support.
For the Chans, giving back to Rundle is more than just a gesture of gratitude; it’s an investment in the future. They believe that by supporting Rundle, they are helping to build a community of confident, independent, and capable individuals who will go on to make significant contributions to the world.
Chris’s story is a testament to the profound impact that a nurturing and engaging educational environment can have, not just on students, but on families and communities as a whole. Through his generosity and commitment, Chris exemplifies the values of kindness, curiosity, and well-being that Rundle holds dear, ensuring a brighter future for all.
Why I Give | A Q&A with Leslie Tecklenburg
How did you end up working at Rundle?
In 2007, I had left what I thought was my dream job, but I knew I had a skill set I could bring to many different industries. Given I had a young family, I knew a school environment would be the right place to share my skills, yet maintain a healthy work-life balance. It was my neighbour at the time, Rich Lawson, current Rundle Academy teacher and 25-year veteran employee, who pointed me in Rundle’s direction. I have had many roles over my 17 years at Rundle and have worked alongside wonderful colleagues. I look forward to my continued professional growth as I inch closer to the 20-year mark!
What was your experience like as a Rundle parent?
I am grateful to have many unique perspectives on Rundle, as a parent of both an Academy and College graduate, as well as a long-tenured staff member. My career thus far has been rewarding and fulfilling, however, I am most proud of being a Rundle parent and the Rundle education I was able to give to my children.
My son and daughter had different experiences at their schools. Each of them thrived within their small classes under the guidance of exceptional teachers brimming with genuine care and concern. Some of my son’s teachers,
such as Rich Lawson and Joelle Kopp, were family friends, and I knew I could count on them to take care of my son. For my daughter, during challenging times, she could rely on Ms. Penton to lend her ear and be a soft place to land. Mr. Martin was her biggest cheerleader and stopped by the rink to support her at her hockey games.
For my son, I can say with certainty that Rundle Academy provided him with a transformational experience. My daughter would say that it was the belief in her that her College teachers had that made her thrive.
Rundle helped my children feel safe, develop kindness and confidence, and find their voice. The smallness of Rundle made it truly feel like a family. The old adage is true that it takes a village to raise a child. For me, Rundle, and its extraordinary faculty and staff were my village that helped me give my children their wings. Because of this, and so much more, my experience as a Rundle parent has been life-changing.
What sets Rundle apart from other independent schools?
I believe in Rundle’s philosophy of developing intelligence alongside exceptional character in their students. The balanced approach between strong academics, character building, and passion pursuits, sets up Rundle students to be well-rounded young people who will look you
“We are immensely grateful for [our children’s] experiences and opportunities and our donations are a small way of giving back.”
in the eye, shake your hand, engage in an intelligent conversation, and above all else, be kind and good people.
Why do you give to Rundle?
Our family gives to Rundle because our children were extremely privileged to attend Rundle. We are immensely grateful for their experiences and opportunities and our donations are a small way of giving back.
What inspires you to give to Rundle?
Watching my children grow up and thrive in their personal and professional lives, makes me realize that much of what makes them amazing people is due in part to the positive influences and the teachings and learnings they received at Rundle. I wish all students had the same educational experience as my children, and I hope my giving affords even one student that opportunity.
What role do faculty and staff play in inspiring giving among the wider Rundle community?
The generosity of faculty and staff as donors to Rundle is a vital component of our strong culture of giving. In any charitable organization, it’s so important to model generosity from the top down, inside out. This way of giving acts like a catalyst to inspire others in our school
community to show support of Rundle’s mission and to help sustain its future growth.
How do you see giving making a difference in the lives of our students?
We know that giving can be just as impactful for the giver as it can be for the receiver. Just as academic teachings are important, introducing community, leadership and giving habits within our schools are lessons of how to give generously and receive gratefully, thereby building gratitude, compassion, and empathy in children of all ages.
How do you see the impact of giving behind the scenes at Rundle?
One of my earlier roles at Rundle was as the Director of Advancement, and at the time, we had a very small giving program in place. Fifteen years later, I am amazed at how our school community has shown their generosity in support of initiatives from bursaries to large-scale capital campaigns. Rundle’s strong culture of giving today is a true reflection of the hard work and generosity of our entire community. From the smallest gifts to the historic and transformational contributions, this support will allow Rundle to continue to be a leader in education and its students the beneficiaries of life-changing experiences.
Bursary TESTIMONIALS With Gratitude
The Joy of Giving
“In our opinion, education is the number one tool to help bring lasting and meaningful improvement to any individual or community. Rundle’s dedication to elevating every student’s educational journey resonates deeply with our values. By contributing to the student bursaries, we hope to remove barriers and make this quality education accessible to more students and their families.”
LINDA GENG AND MALCOLM GOOI
— Bursary Donors
“Our daughter was diagnosed with learning disabilities when she was six years old. Upon receiving that news, all I could hear was doors slamming shut on her; doors for education, doors for opportunities, and doors that many of us easily walked through as young students but become an impassable barrier for those with learning disabilities. Our daughter dreamed of becoming a veterinarian at six years old and I thought the door for that possibility slammed shut that day, too. Rundle Academy is a place of keys; keys to unlock those seemingly closed doors and swing them open for students like our daughter. Once again, education, opportunity, and a chance to dream of so many possibilities was in reach.
Without the assistance of Rundle’s bursary program, it would be nearly impossible for us to send our daughter to Rundle Academy and nearly impossible to access those keys. Words can’t express how grateful we are, not only for the financial assistance but also the hope that comes with it: hope for her education, and hope for her dreams. Our daughter is in grade 8 and she still dreams of one day being a veterinarian. The bursary program puts that dream, and so many like it, within reach. With the deepest gratitude, thank you so much for supporting the bursary program.”

The Gift of Receiving
“I want to express my deepest gratitude for the generosity of the Rundle Bursary donors. I have had two children attend Rundle Academy for the past 11 years, and we have received support through the school’s bursary program.
Their education of the highest importance in their development as children and people. Given that they have learning specialties that required more hands-on, one-on-one attention, Rundle Academy was a natural fit to support their learning needs. As the years progressed, it became increasingly harder for me to manage the tuition associated with such special learning. The school encouraged me to apply for the bursary and to not shy away from pursuing what the girls required. I received tremendous support and care for my kids.
The education that the girls received has been such a special gift. My oldest is now finishing up her fourth year at Mount Royal University pursuing her Bachelor of Interior Design. My other daughter will graduate grade
12 this year with the confidence she would never have had, if not given the opportunities that Rundle Academy provided her.
To say the bursary and Rundle Academy shaped the path of both girls is an understatement. It is like having another parent for your kids to guide them on their own path, with care and understanding that not all people are created equally and our gifts come in different forms. Learning is individual, and I am so thankful that there is a place to show my girls that their gifts don’t always show up the same as everyone else’s.
Thank you, again, from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of me and my two Rundle Academy daughters. Your support will continue to impact their lives as they grow into amazing adults.”

THE PROFOUND IMPACT OF Sponsorship at Rundle
Sponsorship is key to offering exceptional opportunities for our students while helping us manage costs as a non-profit organization. Sponsors help contribute to many aspects of student life, from athletics to arts and co-curricular activities.
In May, the Rundle community came together for our spring fundraising event, From the Meadow to the Mountain. The evening was a vibrant celebration of music, food, and connection, made unforgettable by the generosity of those who attended. We are especially grateful to our sponsors, Origin Partners, Choice Office Furniture, and Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo of Alberta, whose support not only ensured the event’s
success but also underscored the vital role sponsorship plays in enriching the Rundle experience.
Additionally, M3 Development Management Ltd. sponsored tour jerseys for our South Africa rugby trip at spring break, making it possible for these students to pursue their passions in a meaningful way.
Thanks to the generosity of local sponsors, robotics competitions, drama performances, and artistic showcases flourish at Rundle. These partnerships provide students with chances to explore their interests, build new skills, and gain enriching experiences that define their educational journey.
Sponsorship also extends to gifts in kind, which play a pivotal role in supporting our programs. From snacks for athletes to set decor for theatre productions or equipment for robotics, there are countless ways to contribute that go beyond financial donations.
Partnering with Rundle offers sponsors a unique platform to demonstrate their commitment to education and community growth. Aligning with us allows businesses to highlight their dedication to fostering youth development, while also gaining visibility within a supportive, engaged community. Working alongside partners whose values align
with ours, we nurture the future leaders of our society, while showcasing the power of collaboration.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor and making a meaningful impact on Rundle students, please reach out to our advancement team. Together, we can continue to provide extraordinary opportunities for our students and uphold the values that define the Rundle experience.
THE VIBRANT SPIRIT OF Giving at Rundle
What We Know
At Rundle, we know that generosity is a fundamental human trait. Research shows that even young children have an innate desire to help others, and we witness this daily among our students – in our hallways and classrooms, and on the playgrounds. We know that generosity creates a ripple effect, positively impacting both the giver and the receiver. As Carol McCloud beautifully illustrates in her book Have You Filled a Bucket Today?, when we fill someone else’s bucket through acts of kindness, we end up filling our own bucket, too. Helping others truly makes us feel good, deepens our connection to those around us, and fosters a stronger, more compassionate community with a shared purpose.
We also know that our Rundle community is exceptionally generous. Last year, on Rundle Giving Day, we raised $90,000! This level of giving in just one day supports the theory that compassion is contagious; and not only do these donations enrich our students’ experiences, but they also inspire our students to give back to the community as well.
What We Do
At Rundle, we build and shape tomorrow’s leaders, and our culture of giving reinforces our core values of “Together: Be Kind, Be Curious, Be Well.” Our students mirror the generosity of our greater community in many inspiring ways. Across our campuses, students have supported initiatives such as the Winter Jacket Racket, Veterans Association Food Drive, Calgary Food Bank, Kids Cancer Care, Stephen’s Backpacks, Seniors’ Secret Service, Calgary Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, and many more.
What we do is cultivate a community that values giving and understands the powerful impact that volunteering time, money, or resources can have in helping others and making the world a better place. At Rundle, community support is central to our focus on character development, as woven into our unique Pathways to Learning model. We believe that building character is at the core of everything we do, and through these initiatives, students learn that true leadership is about serving, inspiring others, and creating lasting, positive change in the community.

Highlights from the 2023-24 School Year
Cereal Box Drive: Our Rundle College K-6 students organized a cereal box food drive for the Calgary Food Bank, collecting over 360 boxes. This initiative supported those facing food insecurity within our city, and the student engagement led to a creative dominoes activity on Rundle’s Instagram page that went viral!
Class of 2024 Giving Campaign: The Academy and College graduating classes of 2024 set a remarkable precedent by achieving 100% participation in their class giving campaign. This collective effort shows their deep appreciation for the education they’ve received and their eagerness to give back.
