Bullying Prevention Program The Peer Support team has been active with activities and presentations in the junior high to support Bullying Prevention. In mid November, grade 7 students attended group sessions that involved small group activities for the girls and dodge ball for the boys. Peer Support members ran the activities and focused on discussions related to bullying prevention. On December 13th, Peer Support member ran small group sessions with all grade 8 students.
The format was much like that of the Dare to Care Program. Grade 8 students indicated that they found it helpful to learn more about their peers, so that they had more empathy for them. Information about bullying prevention programs at Rundle College is available on Moodle under Student Services “Everyone has the right to be respected and the responsibility to respect others.”

It was a proud moment for Dave Hauk and Rundle College on November 29, 2012, when Mr. Hauk was awarded the prestigious Lorne Wood Award by the Alberta School’s Athletic Association at a reception in Red Deer, Alberta. Named after Lorne Wood, founder of the Alberta School’s Athletic Association, this award recognizes school administrators who actively model, support and promote sportsmanship by their involvement in their school’s athletic program. Dave Hauk is the seventh recipient of this award.
Wednesdays at lunch 12:15-1:15 in the library
Rundle College Junior Senior High’s Athletic Director, Laurel Adolphe, started the nomination process in 2010 and worked tirelessly to provide the required letters of support from coaches and students/parents and a one-page essay outlining why Dave Hauk is deserving of the Lorne Wood Award. Those letters of support quickly came in from Rundle College Chairman, Dr. Robert E. Evans; Rundle College Junior Senior High School Physical Education Department Head, Mr. Neil Domstad; Head Football Coach, physical education and science teacher, Mr. Brent Hargreaves; Ms. Laurel Adolphe herself; along with Rundle alumnus Andrew Buckley (Class of 2011) and current quarterback for the University of Calgary Dinos. Rundle College is widely known for the strength of its athletic program and that is due in large part to the vision of Dave Hauk. More than just producing top athletes, Dr. Evans states “Dave Hauk encourages coaches to use sports programs as a tool to teach positive character traits such as honesty, integrity, hard work, perseverance, conscientiousness and cooperation.” Dave Hauk’s passion as an athlete, educator and administrator has virtually transformed Rundle College’s athletic program that continues to develop strong athletes and more importantly, exceptional young men and women with the skills to contribute to a team in athletics and in life. Congratulations to Mr. Dave Hauk for receiving this most deserving award.
Join Ms. Woods and other junior high students to learn some tips on how to effectively prepare for midterm exams. This month’s sessions will specifically focus on: getting organized for exams, active study strategies, individualized study techniques that work for YOU, time management and developing a study schedule. Choose to work smarter and develop your skills of academic survival! These sessions are also regularly offered throughout the school year.

Mobile Library Rollin’ into Classrooms! Ms. Woods, Mrs. GoepenWee and the Bibliophiles Club have worked hard to purchase and gather over 1800 books for our new mobile library! This month, each junior high classroom will be presented with a rolling ‘book cart’ containing approximately 100 ‘student recommended’ books of various genres and types, meeting the individual interests and reading abilities of our students. Each month, these carts will be rotated throughout each classroom, allowing students to be exposed to the entire collection throughout the course of a school year.
This literacy endeavor was supported by our AISI (Alberta Initiative for School Improvement) project which focuses on literacy development and the 21st century learner. Mobile Library Magazines!
Needs
We are currently accepting gently used magazines to add to our mobile library. If you have any youth friendly/ educational magazines that are collecting dust at home, please drop them off to the library ‘drop spot’ this month. Thank you!

Workshops Mrs. Cossar and Mrs. Helman attended were run by some of the top coaches in the USA. One workshop was run by Karch Karaly, the current head coach of the Women’s National team for the USA. In addition to the workshops attended at the Conference Center, Mrs. Cossar and Mrs. Helman attended events that were part
of the Division 1 NCAA National Volleyball Championships. They saw Texas defeat Michigan in the first semi-final, and then went on to watch in amazement as Oregon took down the #1 seed, Penn State, in the other semi-final. The next night was the Under Armour All-American game, and
then Saturday night was the NCAA Championship final where Texas took down Oregon in 3 straight sets to win the National Championship. The experience of the conference and the matches were unforgettable, and many techniques, drills and bits of information were
brought back with the hopes of employing them in the 2013 volleyball season. Mrs. Cossar and Mrs. Helman would like to thank Mr. Schneider and Rundle College for the opportunity to attend such a conference.
Annual Gala Gift Basket Raffle
At the Christmas Gala, two senior high leadership groups took part in a gift basket raffle whereby each TA class put together a gift basket to raffle off. Members of CAUSE, a social action group, and the Grade 11 Travel Club, took part in organizing and coordinating this fundraiser. Our intention was to raise money for two organizations in Africa. MCF is a registered
charity committed to transforming the lives of orphaned, abandoned and abused children in Africa. LOHADA is an organization in Tanzania that provides support for children, as well as the aged.
We would like to thank students and teachers in the senior high for your generous donations and for purchasing tickets!
There were 18 baskets in total raffled off that evening! Congratulations to the Rundle College community for raising over $2,400 this year!

Once again, our families shared their time and energy on a busy preChristmas Saturday in order to help others. Sixty volunteers worked at the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank, filling both morning and afternoon shifts. We filled Christmas
hampers, sorted food, packed grocery bins, and put together special treat bags that will be given to those living on the streets. It is always a joy to watch our parents and children working together, and it is inspiring to see the lessons and rolemodeling that are all part
of volunteering together. A huge thank you to all of our volunteers. You know that you made a real difference to others depending on the food bank for the basic necessities.
Grade 7s Serving Seniors
As part of our classroom volunteer initiative, the grade 7s have been working with a group of senior citizens at the Kerby Centre. This pilot project involved pairing each class of grade 7 students with a similar size group of seniors for a near one-to-one relationship. Students had two visits with their seniors. One was focused on introductions, crafts and games, while the second was a holiday celebration of games, treats and gifts that
students had made you to parents, staff and students who shared their for the seniors. One time to make this project such a success. class also helped make and sell crafts to help raise money for the centre, and then led a Christmas carol singalong which was loved by all at the centre. We are very proud of the positive and caring attitude shown by our students toward the elderly. They loved us and we loved them. We plan to continue our partnership with the Kerby Centre for future volunteer activities and want to say a huge thank
