30 Years - Doesn’t Time Fly! Well I didn’t expect to be writing about celebrating 30 years in business. It’s a far cry from when I was a young PE teacher breaking 3 hours for the first time in the inaugural London Marathon and organising running events in my spare time. Doesn’t time fly! So where do I start, well at the beginning I suppose. It was January 1988, I’d just lost my dad, resigned from my job as a Leisure Centre Manager and our first child Kate was just 6 months old (she’s now the Senior Manager at Running Imp!). We combined our knowledge of event organisation, turned it on its head and focused on supplying events - The Running Imp (as we were affectionately first known) was born, deriving our name from the love of the sport and Lincoln’s ‘infamous’ Imp in our historic Cathedral.

In 2000 we had Millennium House purpose-built to accommodate our increased warehousing needs and staffing levels of 20 and thought we were there to stay…how wrong we were!

We weren’t disappointed. The Diamond Jubilee saw us grow beyond our wildest dreams, and now in 2018, employ almost 70 staff - a far cry from our humble beginnings in Branston Close. There have been ups and downs but lots of fun times too; from winning awards to sadly losing family, friends and even a young work colleague. One thing that we are all very proud of was in 2009 we introduced our annual Charity of the Year which has resulted in thousands of pounds being raised for worthy causes over the years. Millennium House - 2000-2011

Branston Close - 1988-1990 The ‘foot and mouth’ epidemic of 2001 nearly forced us into a 3 day week but in 2002 the Queen’s Golden Jubilee got us back on track, supplying coins, medals and memorabilia nationwide. In 2007 we acquired Running Imp UK, an offshoot of when the company went its separate ways in 1989, and changed our name back to Running Imp.

Starting from home, we quickly developed our one-stop-shopping policy. But after just 9 months working from our spare room and shed, the last straw with the neighbours was when an articulated lorry knocked down one of the lamp posts in our close whilst delivering our wares - we knew we had to move! So in 1990 we moved into a small rented unit employing our first member of staff and changed our name to Running Imp International (which I will explain why later). Quickly growing the 3 of us became 8 and one unit became 2 then 3 and we then operated from there for almost 10 years. At this point we must give a special mention to our longest serving employee Faye who joined us in 1991 as the Office Junior - 27 years later she is now the Managing Director of the Company - well done Faye, we wouldn’t be where we are now without you!

As I said previously we thought we were there to stay, But with the acquisition we soon grew to over 30 staff and were once again at breaking point, with nowhere to park and struggling for office space - it was time to move again!

As technology has changed so has our business, but our 4 key aims of service, advice, choice and value hasn’t. Our customers always come first and many have been with us for years - we salute you. So here we are celebrating 3 decades in business with a new company rebrand, modern facilities and plenty of room for expansion. But what will the future hold and where will technology take us during our next chapter - only time will tell.

Since 1988 we have seen many changes in technology. From typing out invoices on a typewriter (how would we cope with doing that now), to buying this breakthrough invention called a fax machine in 1989 which at the time was the biggest thing since sliced bread. To our first computer that had a green screen (remember those?), to everyday things we now take for granted, like smart phones, ultra fast computers, the internet and emails - how on earth did we manage without emails!

Now with plenty of parking and office space it allowed for the expected growth that the Diamond Jubilee would hopefully bring and for any future expansions internally and externally.

Jubilee House - 2018 With the next generation now working within the business, they are keeping us on our toes and ensuring we move with the times. Having instilled family values into the business from day one it is nice to see them continue this and it will be one thing that we never change! After your design has been signed off, production of your medals will commence with delivery to the UK by sea or air freight.

2 Send your design or use our FREE Design Service

By Sea Freight

3 Place your order stating: Style/Quantity/Shape & Size/ Finish/Ribbon Detail/ Enamelling Colours (if any)/ Date Required

To produce your medals, sea freight to the UK, clear customs, transport to our distribution headquarters and then deliver to your door, will take 10 to 12 weeks - the most economical service.

4 Within 5 days we will send artwork for your approval

By Air Freight Alternatively the medals can be produced and then flown in by air freight which will take only 5 to 6 weeks or even less; there is a small surcharge for this service.

5 Once approved, production will commence 6 Your Medals will then be delivered within your requested timescale
