Your Plans.Your Impact.

Making a Gift Through Your Will Plan for tomorrow and leave a lasting legacy A bequest is a simple and straightforward way anyone can provide a significant gift to Rush. When you include Rush in your will or living trust, you create a lasting legacy that will make an impact on the students and families we serve, as well as the countless patients and providers around the world who benefit from innovations pioneered at Rush. A provision in your will or trust may be directed to the cause most meaningful to you. Whether you choose to provide support for Rush’s greatest needs or direct your gift to a specific program, you can be sure your bequest will help improve health care at Rush and enrich the lives of current and future patients.

“If it weren’t for the doctors and nurses at Rush, I know I wouldn’t be here today. I recognize from my time spent at Rush that the people there always want the best for their patients. I want to be part of that effort, which is why I have established a trust in my will to honor Rush.” — Joe Cohen

Rush is grateful for all gifts. We would be glad to work with you and your advisors to arrange a gift plan that meets your charitable and financial objectives. What information can I provide to my attorney?

As part of your will or trust you can designate a specific dollar amount; a percentage of your estate; or the residue of your estate after all gifts have been made to family and friends. The gift planning office at Rush can work with you and your attorney to customize your gift to fit you and your family’s unique goals.

Rush’s gift planning team is available to provide you and your advisors with information that can be helpful in your estate planning process. Below is sample language you may wish to share with your attorney:

What are the benefits of making a bequest? •

A bequest allows you to express your personal values and make an impact on Rush’s future and the future of health care.

You remain in control of your assets during your lifetime and can modify your bequest at any time if your priorities change.

You may be able to give a more significant gift, because your bequest has no effect on your present financial needs.

For donors subject to estate taxes, a charitable bequest may reduce your taxable estate.

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Rush University Medical Center, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, having its principal offices in the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, (a specific amount or a percentage of the estate) to be used for its general purposes (you may insert an area of Rush you wish to support).” If a gift is restricted: “In the event the (purpose of the restriction) can no longer be served, my gift may be used for other appropriate purposes as reasonably determined by Rush.”

Your Bequest Counts When you choose to let us know that you made a charitable bequest, it is a powerful statement of confidence in Rush and inspires others to give. Knowing about your plans allows us to direct your future gift to the area you care about most and honor your legacy as you wish to be recognized. Most importantly, it enables Rush to show our appreciation for your philanthropy and include your support in planning for Rush’s future.

Rush Heritage Society Established in 1994, the Rush Heritage Society recognizes a special group of benefactors who have included Rush in their estate plans. Membership in the Rush Heritage Society enables Rush to thank you for your generosity during your lifetime and express gratitude for your commitment to Rush’s future.
