Lóbregos is a cool new band from Colombia. Andrew Stanton talked to his friend Dark Cosmos about his new project.
- Hello and welcome to Inside the Darkness.
“Kind regards to Andrew and all Inside the Darkness readers.”
- Can you tell our readers a little about his story, please?
“ Lóbregos was born at the beginning of the pandemic, it can be said that its existence was accidental, since the intention was to participate by performing a poetry with a background sound with its own composition in the radio program the underworld of the word on the Wolfgang Records station, The radio listeners believed that it was a band with a long history and began to contact the announcer to find out where the work was obtained, from there the motivation was born and I decided to start recording with that sound of Atmospheric Metal mixed with poetry and that is there where I decided to call the band Lóbregos, a shady sound with its own genre defined as atmospheric Black Metal.”
- Is the band just you?
“If this project has had a composition, recording, mixing and mastering process under my own hand.”
- What bands did you like when you were little?
“The bands that I started listening to at the age of 11 Ángeles del infierno, Evol, Balsagoth, Messiah, Pantera, Sepultura, Mortal Sin, Col Massacre, Neurosis and other bands of great trajectory.”
- Is Lobregos very different from Necrocruz?
“Although both bands are my own and have a pagan theme, it can be said that they differ in their musical style and lyrical part since Necrocruz talks more about pagan battles, ancestral revenge and Lóbregos talks more about awakening conscience, spiritual ascension and on the perception of true magic.”
- What are the lyrics and themes about?
“As I said before, Lóbregos talks about the awakening of consciousness of the human being, the states that must be accepted between life and death and the afterlife, having a more objective vision about magic and duality. These lyrics are based on free verses defined as poetry. It also talks about ancient Gods of different cultures and different points of view in the face of suicide and the ruptures of civilization that we see today.”
- Do guest musicians appear on the album?
“Of course, in the tracks Under the stem of duality, Outro: The Perception of Magic II and Shield Maiden, the beautiful Arkana Kluzt vocalizes, in the track When Odin traveled to the West the beautiful Isabella Zamudio participates in a lyrical voice and in the Bonus track: Maiden Escudera, Robert from the band Grim Pilgrim participates in musical composition as a special guest.”
- Do you have a release date?
“In Lóbregos I recorded 9 songs of which 8 were of my total composition, after mixing the 9 tracks I made a digital release on July 17, 2021 by bandcamp which can be purchased through https://lobregos. bandcamp.com/ album/la-percepci-n-de-la-magia, the physical release will be made when the Wolfgang Records label completes the production process.”
- Most South American bands never tour outside of South America and often never bother to release albums. Will this ever change?
“It is a concept that cannot be generalized, because some bands prefer to be underground and play in their environment, but I dare to say that many of the bands from my country if they wanted to be in an international environment, outside of South America but taking into account that we live in third world countries where there are scarce economic resources and little support for artists, many times we do not have the economic resources to leave our own countries to other continents. Another situation is the restrictions placed on the people of our countries to be able to travel. At the moment many labels are being creat ed that have already begun with t h e task of distributing outside of South America and not only albums but also online stations and other South American metal products that are exalting our music.”
- Why are Colombian bands more accepted outside of South America?
“Although in our Colombian scene there is a sense of belonging to our music, I cannot deny that I have also seen some divisions that generate apathy and a lack of support among the country’s metalheads themselves, therefore many choose to want to seek support more optimal in the foreign world as there has been more appreciation for the elaborate material of our bands.”
- Do you have a message for our readers?
“Thank you very much to all who wish to support Lóbregos and I hope you like this proposal and remember that there is only one metal regardless of its origin and the support must be national and international. Horns raised!”
Thanks for your time.
“To you Andrew my friend for inviting Lóbregos to this excellent magazine.”
