Hi, this is Jay…
Today I am lucky enough to be talking with Asithara, lead vocalist with the Thai monsters of Black Metal, DEI TETRA… ASITHARA, it’s a pleasure to talk to you and thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for our readers at INSIDE THE DARKNESS.
1) Where was Dei Tetra formed and why? Who is in the band today?
At first we had a thrash/ death metal band called Antiht. The same line up as Dei Tetra. It started with the idea that we wanted to play black metal after a year of Antiht. We still have the same line up since then. Me on vocals, Rex (Viperon) on guitar, Ben (Aboroth) on bass and Jil (Kaosis) on drums.
2) Your latest EP, Prevail, is an absolute masterpiece. Tell us where and when it was recorded and run us through the songs... who writes the songs?
Rex did all the instrumental parts. I do the lyrics and vocals. Me and Rex, we have studios at our place. We mostly work online and finalize at Rex’s (The Viper’s Studio).
3) Tell us about your previous releases...
In Nomine Dei Nostri Satanas (Demo) 2009
Luciferi Excelsi (Demo) 2010
El fuego (EP) 2010
Godless Rituals (Demo) 2010
Revelations of Blasphemy (Split) 2011
Devotees to Flames (Single) 2012
Prevail (EP) 2020
Thailand’s Blasphemers (Split) 2021
4) What inspires your lyrics?
Paganism, world history, ancient history. I like to figure out what is behind those stories and symbols. Then I interpret them and put them in the lyrics.
5) Which bands did you listen to growing up?
When I was 10 I joined a marching band, back then I grew up with scores of John Williams (as i can remember). Then the Nu Metal wave came, that’s when I started to listen to metal and dig deep to any genre of metal as much as I could. So I couldn’t specify the band I grew up. Dei Tetra is a goliath of Asian black metal... tell us where you’ve played and your experiences... We played in Singapore a couple of times, it was great. But the most memorable is the show in Hanoi, Vietnam opening for Nargaroth in 2013. The scene there was great. We had a warm welcome from people there. It was impressive.
6) Tell us about the Black Metal scene in Thailand and about your experiences as a female musician…
The Black Metal scene in Thailand today is more of oneman band. The overall Thai metal scene is quite narrow so we know almost everybody. We have good relationships with most of the musicians. So being a female musician is like any other musicians. No different.
7) Recommend some Thai bands...
Northern Darkness - Abuse with Consent. just released in June. You should check them out.
8) Tell us about Dei Tetra’s plans for the future…
Due to our times and responsibility in our lives, we plan to release songs from time to time, as much as we can.
9) Do you have a message for our readers?
Please check us out in any media platform. We hope you like our songs and kindly support us. Thank you!
