World Metal News Tuska Open Air is a hard
rock and heavy metal festival in Helsinki. Celebrating it’s 20th anniversary in 2017, the festival is one of the most established in the scene. With an undeniably rich history of metal bands, Scandinavia has become the unofficial home of the genre, with Tuska acting as it’s Mecca. Spread across three stages over three days, the festival curates a lineup that balances established stars with young up-and-comers. Suvilahti is a disused power plant to the north-east of Helsinki city centre. Its industrial backdrop perfectly complements the hard edge of Tuska.

Mors Principium Est• Melodic Death Metal from Finland
Interview with Andy
Interview by Olga Schneider
The beginning of this year was really intense for you, and of course I mean 70000 Tons of Metal. Tell us a little bit more about this experience.
partying in international waters for 4 days… what could possibly go wrong? I vlogged the last two times we played so you can check out the
ration between the bands and the fans, everyone is just there to drink and party. Every band plays twice. We had the pleasure of opening the whole

experience on YouTube. It’s a really bizarre concept but it somehow just works. There’s no sepa-
event this year but our second set was at 4am on the pool deck which was quite an experience!
Since festival season is coming, are you planning any live shows for upcoming summer? We have only one booked so far - which I’m leaving for any moment (Ragnarok Festival in Germany) - but I guess that’s not technically a summer show. It’s a real shame but so far we don’t have anything else booked. There are talks about various tours but we can’t say too much on that just yet! We haven’t heard from you so much since 2017. How does the band feel now and what do we have to wait from you in the near future? Probably another portion of new material? I’m working on writing a new album. It’s getting there, but there’s still a way to go. I think we’re hoping to get a new album out for everyone in 2020. It’s an interesting one because it will be our 7th album, but for me as the main composer it will be my 4th. I really felt like the first album I wrote for the band (… and Death Said Live) back in 2012 was just
trying to keep the band together and pushing forward with new material, but keeping the same signature sound. The follow-up album, “Dawn of the 5th Era” was very much just polishing that sound. Then with
our latest release, “Embers of a Dying World”, it was about keeping the sound, but also trying to give a bit more and evolve a little to give the fans something new and not just to write the same album over and over again. I really have no idea what this next album will sound like because I feel like we will need to evolve that sound once again in order to not keep writing the same riffs etc. You joined the band in 2011. Was it easy to get into a quite famous band which, however, was being reorganized at that time? What kind of difficulties did you have to meet during that process? I found it easy to get along with the guys and we made friends quickly which was great. They flew me to Finland to meet them and it just took off from there. I did, however, find writing that first album very difficult. The main reason was that I had to adopt the style of the last song-writer who had left the band. 9
Mors Principium Est• Melodic Death Metal from Finland 10
I had to really study the band’s sound and make it my own and I was very hard on myself to get it right. I guess it paid off because the response for that album was incredible and there wasn’t a backlash from fans. Peo-
table. It’s only natural when someone else takes over writing duties that the style will change a little. I’ve always been able to compose in all kinds of different genres – I do that for a job when I’m scoring films or com-
about your experience in your previous projects? I’ve been playing in bands and writing music since I was 10 years old. Before joining Mors Principium Est I was in a band called “Shadow Law” in The UK. We
ple were just happy that the band hadn’t given up. How do you feel your personal influence on the band, on its sound, atmosphere etc? Can you affirm that you brought something completely new? If yes, what is that? While it was really important to retain the band’s familiar sound, I definitely think I brought something new to the
posing for video games or various projects, so it wasn’t so hard to adopt the band’s sound and make it my own. But I do think I’ve introduced a bit more orchestration and a lot of inspiration from places that metal composers usually wouldn’t take inspiration from. I think I have quite a classical approach to composing. Tell us a little bit more
made a great album which I recently re-released onto Spotify, but unfortunately, at the time that we tried to release it, the band just fell apart and it wasn’t to be. Mors Principium Est came at the perfect time for me really. What’s your opinion about Finnish school of Melodic Death Metal and its tendencies nowadays?
I think The Finnish know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to Melodic Death Metal! It’s funny to think that I’m writing this music and I’m British - in fact I recall our old drummer, Mikko, asking how it is possible that a British guy can write this stuff haha. There’s plenty of great Finnish melodeath bands out there for sure and I’m always drawing inspiration from them. Since Mors Principium Est sounds very different from all these bands, what did spare the band from being like a lot of them? I think our sound is unique but it’s hard to say why. I think it’s probably mostly down to the amount of melody we incorporate into the music. It’s always been that way and I personally always write with a
very melody-focussed attitude. I think a lot of metal bands are almost
afraid to do so, but at the end of the day, melody is the most important part of music. A bit trivial question, but what bands inspire you to
create your own music? I listen to such a diverse range of genres and bands that my inspiration comes from all over the place – it’s really hard to pin down. I guess Symphony X, At The Gates, Children of Bodom, Protest The Hero, Dream Theater – any band with great melodies and guitar playing. A traditional question. What would you like to say to those who are reading this interview right now? I would like to say thank you for your interest in the band and all your support, whether it’s coming to shows, buying merch, or just listening to our music. You guys are keeping the band going and at this time in the music industry we need as much support as we can get!

Hatespirit - Black Metal from Oulu , Finland
Interview with Woewrb and Sevoragis
Interview by Olga Schneider
Woewrb, you are the leader and the founder of Black Metal band Hatespirit. Tell our readers about your project. What or who influenced your decision to create the band? Woewrb: Hails. Hatespirit is a Black Metal band from northern Finland and so far we have released two full-length albums. I would describe our materials with the words such as raw, wild and hateful. Our lyrical emphasis being more on nature than religious or occult themes. To put it simply, the original source of inspiration for establishing this

band, could be said to be the call to decide to record this album? of the wild nature in my heart and Maybe you did not wish to hurthe music of bands such as Ild- ry and worked all details that the album sounded jarn, Vordr, Ă˜delegger, ideally or you just did not want to hurry with realization of the first work? W: The music and lyrics Darkthrone, Burzum, Gorgoroth for the first album were writetc. In addition I just wanted ten during the years 2013-2015. another way to express myself. Still, we were not that active as a The first album Blood & Po- band in those years, until Kalmo etry was out only 3 years lat- joined Hatespirit as our vocalist er after the band’s formation. in the autumn 2015 and soon afWhy did you take so much time ter that we recorded our songs.

The original idea was to release these materials as our first demo cassette but when Altare Productions suggested to do a limited vinyl release, we just couldn’t refuse this offer. All our recordings have been spontaneous efforts (what comes to the sound quality and how the songs are recorded) than something too much planned in advance. Did you have some experience with metal bands before creation of Hatespirit? W: There has been other bands and releases in which I have been involved, but because they do not have anything to do with this band. I see no reason to advertise them in this context. I hope you understand my point? Not so long ago, at the end of 2018, the second album Ageless Wilderness was released. What is the concept of this album and whether it differs from the first album as in the plan of musical component and in lyrics? W: I wouldn’t say it’s a concept album, but you can find a thin red line that connects the lyrics to one another and finally to the album’s title. Ageless, because the law of nature is creation through destruction and wilderness is a symbol for the different aspects of nature that modern man has tried to deny in himself and the world for too long because of a judeo-christian influence. The lyrical themes of the “Ageless Wilderness” album are about things like natural mys-
ticism, wilderness, barbarism, forests, winter, blood, poetry (of the fallen warlord), nostalgia, the wild hunt, intoxicants, revenge and transcendence. I would say that this new album is a bit tighter and more thoughtout package in every way. You have two active bands - Hatespirit and Serpentfyre. They formed approximate-
ly at the same time. Tell us whether they have a similarity and in what they differ from each other? Kind of you characterized your bands? W: I’d say that the concept of Hatespirit is more about the extensive and gloomy forests, and all that is hidden there. In the darkness... In our subconscious... In our blood and heritage... It’s also about our connection with the Earth and its cycles and what we are as men. Where-
as the concept of Serpentfyre is more about that specific moment when the wanderer raises his gaze into the eternal nightsky and beholds the moon and the stars in all of their splendor and feels a connection with something greater than himself. However, these are two different bands and created for different purposes in mind... In your texts it is heard and is obviously allocated the misanthropy. What is it, a tribute to a genre or it is close personally to you as the author? W: I can only speak for myself. I don’t look at this world in the same way as most people do. Still, I would say that it’s only a natural reaction to living in a totally fucked up world. I have never consciously asked to be born into this world. The masses of flesh are enormous but never knowing the true spirit. It’s not only a tribute. I have had these kind of thoughts already years ago. I have just channeled them into my art because I think going to prison is not that interesting. My favorite author what comes to misanthropy and anti-life attitudes is the Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran (1911-1995). I would recommend his books for all those who are interested. Sevoragis: Mankind just would do a whole lot better without the majority of current human populace on this Tellus. 13
Hatespirit - Black Metal from Oulu , Finland
Way too many of us are sleeping a deep deep slumber with no recollection of the origins of our enslavement and in most incarnated individuals the spark for man`s true evolution just doesn`t seem to ignite and will not for a long long time, if ever. As advertising we would like to specify reference for metalheads where it is possible to chack out your creativity and to buy your albums (both bands). Show us your references with comments if it is possible. W: Both Hatespirit albums are raw and hateful black metal with a punkish vibe and the tracks are shorter and more straightforward (with a few exceptions). Serpentfyre is traditional black metal and has so far released “Of Darkness & True Light” demo tape, “Bestial Mysticism” full-length album, split EP with Dolentia and “Illuminating Ruin” EP is the latest release from 2017. All support to these two fine record labels: Altare Productions https://altare.pt/ and Nykta Records https://nykta.gr/ 8. Is it pleasant to you to perform in clubs, to participate in festivals? Tell about the most interesting of your gigs. Whether gives to you a live performance certain experience for further improvement? W: With Hatespirit we have
played three live gigs so far and they have been successful in my opinion. I think it all depends
on how you see these live situations and what doing them gives to you personally. It’s the attitude that determines. Of course the more you play live should affect your performances, but as we have seen with some bands this is not always the case. There are always some stories to tell even if you don’t go that far. Like having a free ride home by the local cops, after having ring too many doorbells on your way to backstage which was already closed... Ha ha! S: Live performances gives an unique experience. Through playing live for an audience you get to channel your intentions and that driving inner/outer Force which enables and makes you do and play this kind of
music in the first place. Whether the audience is receptive or not, it doesn`t matter. Everything always has it`s effect. If even one person got some right kind of stimulus from the performance, it was not a gig wasted. Just as long everyone keeps true to themselves and play the gig as their own personal “ritual”. As for live settings a small indoor venue is always best for Black Metal, where the artist and audience are up close. Daytime gigs in large outdoor stages just ruin the mood. Did you perform outside Finland and whether is in plans to hold a tour, maybe as a support band of some your favorite band? W: No tours or gigs abroad up to this point, but the goal is to play elsewhere than just in Finland in the future. At the moment we are re-creating our line-up of the band. Because our latest guitarist left the band some time ago. What can you tell about development of Black Metal scene in Finland? Is it possible to claim that now we have a certain surge of interest to bands of Black metal as locally, and all over the world in general? W: It seems to be striving forward and there are many new releases coming, but I am not too interested in any scenes.
I think most people are more interested about buying some limited “cult” vinyl releases than they are interested in anything else related to BM. Because it’s just “good” music for them. S: Never have been much of a “scene-man”. New bands and music keep churning out from all over the world and some new gems are to be found every once a while. Black Metal is still quite marginal amongst the music listeners of the world. It is so and probably should be so (because of referring to question 6 here). Only few get the true idea behind all this. Finland has had it`s share of great BM bands for a long time and seems still to be one of the largest contributors, even though small in geographic and demographic scale. But as everywhere, music has it`s same potential to change or not to change humans as before. It´s still the inner Lives of every individual and how they are spent that counts. It’s difficult to compare and put in one row modern creativity and classics of a genre, but nevertheless if to try what from new albums in your opinion is worthy this row? W: I can mention some of my favourites. Warloghe “Womb of Pestilence”, Vordr all fulllength albums, Phlegein “De-
votion”, Numinous album and EP, Satanic Warmaster “Carelian Satanist Madness”. There are others, but these came to mind first... S: Some great stuff has come from the germanic neofolk artists, such as Forndom and Wardruna. Highly recommended. As for metal music Finland`s Fatherland and Horns from CHILE have left a lasting impression. Deletere from
Canada left some tingles. Not black metal, but the synthwave genre and the music like of Xurious have really hit the spot. I hope, both of your bands are long-term projects and you still will please us exit of new albums in near future. What in general plans for the future? W: The plan is to finalize the new Serpentfyre album and get it released next. I have also start-
ed writing the third Hatespirit album and before that one EP release should be out sooner or later. Also to play more live gigs and to follow the true path, that is found only in the self, unique. S: Keep doing what the Great Unknown bestows upon as. The spiral of time unravels itself constantly and only it will tell the future. A new string player is needed for Hatespirit. The next Serpentfyre album is being recorded and hopefully released this year. At the end of interview your words for our readers. W: Thanks for the interview. I will end this with a quote from our latest album: “Ageless wilderness The realm of passion Of ancient fire And the hidden folk Of the rocks The chill breath Of the north wind Under the stars and moon Gazing into the endless night Spit on the face of humanity” S: Thanks for the interest.
Horrizon - Melodic Death Metal from Germany
Interview with Martin
Interview by Olga Schneider
Ok, let’s begin with your distant past. When the band was just formed, you were inspired by bands like Hammerfall and Amon Amarth, b u t however y o u created your own s o u n d which as we can hear hasn’t any influence of those bands. How did
you move away from that? When we started in 2005, we first covered “The Dragon Lies Bleeding” (HammerFall) and “Death
we used to be really bad musicians looking for songs that we liked and we were able to cover. :-D On our first album “Time for Revenge”, I can only find one single riff that reminds me of Hammerfall: the chorus of “Journey to Valhall” is quite similar to the beginning of Hammerfall’s “Renegade”.
My personal experience is that MDM is a type of Metal that really works on stage.
16
in Fire” (Amon Amarth). I guess the only reason for doing that was the fact that
But that’s it. But as you said, I also don’t think that we’ve ever sounded like one of the bands. When we released “Time for Revenge”, our first album, lots of online magazines claimed the opposite, but I think they just read the band info - that said we had covered songs of the bands before - instead of listening to the album. As we can see, you took quite a lot of time to get your first album released. What was it connected to? Well, we founded Horrizon in 2005, but I have to admit that our skills regarding our instruments were not that good. On the one hand, I was somehow able to write songs, but on the other hand, I really sucked at playing the songs properly. It just took time to reach the level that was necessary for me to record the songs the way I wanted them to sound. When Peter, our guitarist, joined the band in 2008, we became much more professional and I had become a much better guitarist, because I had
joined a Tech-Death Metal band as a guitarist, which had improved my skills a lot. Peter had his own home studio and he was (and still is) very good at composing keyboard lines
for our songs, which made all the songs sound way better. His influence was very important for the development of Horrizon. When all the songs for the first album were written also Peter’s songs -, we started recording them, but as our former singer Marco had left the band, I decided to record the vocals for the album. Later, I decided to become the singer of the band and look for a new guitarist, because I really couldn’t get along with playing and singing simultaneously. I still can’t. :-D Well, all these circumstances caused the delay, but I am happy it took so long. Otherwise, the result wouldn’t have been the same. What kind of difficulties have you ever met as a band which was created at the time when Metal was already formed so well with all those genres and popularized? It’s always been very hard to reach a certain popularity which is, for sure, due to the fact that there are thousands of bands in each country. That’s one of the downsides of the internet. 17
Horrizon - Melodic Death Metal from Germany 18
We hope that our new label Massacre Records and the release of our third album will help us become more popular and give us the chance to play at bigger festivals or bigger stages in general. Now your new album is on its way. How is it going with that at the moment? At what phase is creative process being right now? We are almost done with everything. All instruments and vocals are recorded and the instruments are also mixed and mastered. All that is left is the mixing of the vocals and the final mastering. We might finish the mastering by the beginning of June. “World
of Pain” will probably be released in September or November of 2019. Can you probably do some spoilers and tell us a little bit about the upcoming album? What it will be dedicated to? How can you characterize the sound etc? The album is sort of a concept album, so the title “World of Pain” somehow indicates what the lyrics are about. I don’t want to reveal more details about the lyrics right now. Regarding the sound, I can say that “World of Pain” is simply better than our previous albums. Unlike the last times, we only recorded our instruments at Peter’s home studio,
but this time, we mixed/ mastered the songs at the studio of the guy who was our keyboarder before we started using keyboard backing tracks instead. He does a great job! You’re planning several gigs this summer as we can notice. Will you play only your old stuff live or you’ll also show some of your new material to the world? Yes, after more than a year, we are finally back. Last year, Josh (guitar) and Felix (drums) left the band, but fortunately, we could find new members who live close to Peter’s home town. Before, every member lived very far away from each other and our rehearsal room was in the middle of nowhere.
We’re glad this has changed. Franz, our bass guitarist, is the only one who needs more than two hours to get to the rehearsal room. :-D At our first show in Worms on May 5, we already played three songs from “World of Pain”. We will also play them at our next show in Koblenz on June 1. Our goal is to play at least five of the new songs at the next shows in September. As for Melodic Death Metal in general... Sweden was the country that gave birth to this genre, developed it and made it popular. Nowadays MDM is also being developed so well in Germany, it’s getting more and more bands in Germany and each of them has its absolutely unique sound. What do you think, what was the reason for that tendency? I don’t know why this is happening, but my personal experience is that MDM is a type of Metal that really works on stage. It’s melodious and straightforward, but still hard. There are lots of traditional or Brutal Death Metal bands that have to struggle with the fact that the audience doesn’t really understand what is being played. When riffs are too fast
and not melodious at the same time, it’s quite hard to figure out a certain song structure, especially live. That’s at least what I experienced with my Tech-Death band, and what I can see at concerts of smaller Death Metal bands. Our audience was always watching us, but I didn’t have the feeling that they really enjoyed watching us, because it was really hard to figure out what’s “happening” on stage. Playing shows with Horrizon is much more fun, as you can see most people bang their heads or even freak out. It’s a totally different experience. Don’t get me wrong! I really
like Death Metal. It’s definitely not worse than MDM. I‘m just saying that I have the impression that „normal“ Death Metal works way better on stage when the audience knows the songs that are being played, which makes it harder for unknown bands of that genre. How did your sources of inspiration change with time? Honestly, I can’t even tell what sources of inspiration I have. Since I listen to many types of Metal, I think it’s simply a mixture of many bands I listen to. By the way, I would never name bands again when being asked about our inspiration/ influences. Do you remember what I told you about the reviews for our first album? :D A traditional question. What would you like to say to our readers and crew? We really appreciate your support and it’s a great honor for us to have fans all around the world who listen to our music. We really hope to get the opportunity to see all of you guys at our concerts and have some drinks with you! :-)

OFIDIANS MANIFEST ‘Ofidians Manifest’ represents Kampfar anno 2019. 25 years on from their foundation, only willing to release new music if they felt it would surpass all they had done before, it is a condensation of the immense struggles of the last few years. Everything that has been hidden behind the music and the live performances is laid bare, though told in the only way the band can portray themselves, through songs. It is immensely honest yet wrapped in their own folklore, the snake tongues splitting every truth into two deeper truths, every word sung dominated by the weight of all those sung before.

Italian grandmasters of orchestral death metal Fleshgod Apocalypse are finding spontaneity rewarding on new album, Veleno. Over the past four albums – previous album, King (2016), floored fans and critics alike – the Francesco Paoli-led trio have planned every step, discussed every note, and ensured every salutation to Paganini, Bach, and Mozart was met with an equally brutal death metal equivalent. On Veleno, which is Italian for ‘venom,’ they needed a change of approach (and pace).
To achieve this, Fleshgod Apocalypse distanced themselves from distraction – lineup changes, tours, and the frustrations of dayto-day life – unboxed the songwriting process, and let the inspiration flow
freely. On Veleno, they’ve matured, blended more efficiently their musical vision, and walked away with 11
songs that sound like a new band with an insatiable prey drive. Tracklist 1. Fury 2. Carnivorous Lamb 3. Sugar 4. The Praying Mantis’ Strategy 5. Monnalisa 6. Worship and Forget 7. Absinthe 8. The band from Norway, Enslaved, will perform for the first time in Colombia, on Monday, March 25 at Ace of Spades giving a blunt discharge of their viking/progressive metal. Within the framework of its «E Tour», the group would open a quota of its tour for Latin American lands, which they would call «Latin America Tour 2019», where they would show their most recent LP «E»; nevertheless, the Norwegians knew the debt that they had with their fans, reason why its set list of 12 tracks, would be a revision of the majority of its discography, giving emphasis in its work «Frost» of 1994.

A blunt show lasting almost an hour and a half, would start with the song «The Bee», the same track that introduces us to its most recent production «Queen of Time» released almost a year ago under the label Nuclear Blast, work that As expected, I take most of his setlist chosen for the night ... finally there were 5 songs belonging to this production, these are: «Daughter of Hate», «The Golden Elk», «Wrong Direction» and «Heart of the Giant «, which add to the aforementioned. However, the Finns would please all the generations present, performing their most important pieces as they are «Black Winter Day» theme with which they would close their first part of the show and that added to «Against Widows» and «Silver Bride», They would imply that nothing would be saved. The closing after a short pause occurred with the tracks «Death of a King» and «House of Sleep»; so in this way we can apply an old saying and that the one that is good repeats.

Their live activity begins in November 2017 and, in March 2018, in the occasion of the third live; the first EP is released, entitled Lights Out, which contains an instrumental intro and four unreleased tracks. For this concert, which is undoubtedly the most prestigious

Live on stage Reviews in which they have been engaged so far, they have proposed a lineup that includes an intro plus seven tracks: Body, Three evil mothers, Lights out, Devil’s rejects, Hellretic, Imago Mortis, Evil dead. The music that the Roman quintet offers is an old style thrash/death metal that I, personally found adequate as an accompaniment to a concert of a band like Pestilence. Among the songs that I could listen to, the most convincing ones seemed to me definitely the last three, maybe they needed to warm up a bit; in fact, in fact their performance on stage has improved as the live went on. I reached the Traffic live with some minutes of delay as I was making the ticket, I began to listen to the music coming from inside. The concert was about to begin! So I run inside just when Hellretic begin their concert with the previously unrealized song Body. This song immediately makes it clear what

turn the evening will take. Then, immediately they have switched to the tracks of the recent ep and here is Three Evil Mothers, the opening track of the ep. In this song the drums base in duet with a nice guitar riff introduces
throughout the song by precise guitar lines, although in my opinion the volume is slightly too low. Going on with the songs of the ep, here is the title track, Lights Out that leads us to rhythms that are still sustained but certainly less fast than the first. The guitars march well and lead us to the catchy guitar solo in the middle of the song. The bass also makes his own job to give the sound that purer death metal vein that certainly does not hurt. Overall, Lights out is a song with a more melodic vein, especially in the refrain that is very catchy even for newcomers of the genre. It is now the turn of Devil’s rejects where the rhythms return to be rougher and heavier, the rhythms are faster syncopated, the guitars still granitic, they are us into Demetrio’s accompanied by a rude deep and powerful but pleasant drums the growl, which will vocal impact in the continue accompanied growl is very deep. by Simone’s scream The combination of in a very convincing the syncopated rhythm combination. The two with the instrumental voices are accompanied parts is certainly very
pleasant. We momentarily leave Lights out, when Demetrio introduces us the drummer Andrea. He starts the track Hellretic also with a rough and syncopated rhythm where we still find the scream backing vocals pleasantly combined with the growl even if the volume of the microphone to my ears turns out too low, with a nice drum solo followed by another one played by the guitar. At the end of the song, Simone wanted to thank the TrafficLive, where they also played last year when their album was released. Thus, we come to another unpublished song, the last of the evening, it is their last work, the song Imago Mortis, which is strongly influenced by the horror films of the eighties, a slower beginning that flows after a few seconds, in a rhythm more brutal, but not fast anyway. A song made up of slowdowns and accelerations of rhythm a little different from
the previous ones, that proposes another beautiful guitar solo and with a refrain that remains in the lead. After the greetings to
the public, Demetrio announces the last song saying that thirtytwo years ago, in fact, the house came out two and the last piece is just Evil Dead where our passion for horror movies, which in any case affects

them written, is more evident. In fact, the song is a tribute to the horror saga Evil dead (La casa) in particular to the second chapter of the saga. The last piece of this concert brings us back to a more death/ metal rhythm, a nice little punch in the stomach, load and compact, it can also count on another very pleasant guitar solo, and noteworthy is the repetition of the refrain in growl and scream that really gives the head. The concert is well structured and pleasant although the brevity of the set (less than half an hour) and some slight flaw in the sound check and despite the fact that the sound proposed may seem ÂŤoldÂť to the ears of younger listeners.

T h e R o m a n t r a s h d e a t h sters are followed on stage by a quartet f r o m S o f i a , they are called Grimaze, they also, unfortunately, unknown to me. As I did for Hellretic, I want to draw a very brief history of this interesting quartet. Grimaze are a young band from Bulgaria who, although young, can already boast numerous concerts, both at home and abroad, sharing the stage with important artists. So far, since their birth in 2013 they have produced an ep with the title Grimaze in 2016 (2016 was also the year in which their intense live activity also began) and a fulllength album Planet Grimaze in 2018. The current line-up includes the charismatic singer
54
Georgi Ivanov, Melina Krumova, on guitar, Nedy Miladinov on drums and Phillip Kolarov on bass. All the members of the band are musically very gifted. Notable that the guitar parts are entrusted to the mastery of the talented Melina Krumova. It is unusual to see a girl on the guitar (and as the only guitarist, too) in a mixed band. However excellent choice! Like the band that preceded them, their concert also included eight tracks including an intro and an outro that is almost completely about the last job. It is almost 9.00 pm and Melina Krumova appears on stage first,
beginning to arrange her amplification, the group has not planned any decoration for the stage, leaving only the music to create the right atmosphere and the right involvement of the audience, then other components arrive that seem very quiet, safe and determined. At 9.05 pm, all the components are all in their positions... Let’s go! Some drummer’s piercing screams serve as an unusual opening for the exhibition that continues with the devastating Disobey the primitives, in which the young Bulgarians begin to show off their grit and their musical talents and which opens with a substantial bass line supported by a furious singing, a very precise guitar with a final piece
Reviews is slower and lighter than in the beginning but no less brutal. After a short break, the singer presents
the group: “We are Grimaze!” In addition, announces the next track Inner engineering that begins with a violent drum solo and followed by a brutal scream in growl mode, the tribal rhythm, as some suggestions of the previous song remember me Sepultura of Roots era. The audience, actually not very numerous (we are unfortunately used to seeing few people at the performances of support groups), but follows with interest and supports the rhythmic rhythm of the song and then lashes out on the violent accelerations. The drummer is great! The audience
applauds satisfied. The fast Endless Life Force follows without pause, and like the previous one, it offers well-crafted riffs, the people of the band accompany with grit and a practically continuous and very engaging head banging. The public appreciates Georgi’s vocal performance and applauds loudly. A short pause and here is the granitic Survival of
the Fittest probably the most convincing song of their performance and the one that seemed to me the most successful overall, from the musical point of view, as well as for the impact on stage. Here the sound seems to me less impulsive but more reasoned, balanced and also includes a very pleasant guitar solo. In which Melina
shows off her musical skills. I like his style! Even that industrial feeling that somehow recalls the older Fear Factory. Now it is the turn of Change, the only track that is not present on the last record, it is a new song that will be part of the next album, which seems to be set along the lines of the previous production. About half an hour has passed and ours are ready for the closing song. Georgi announces therefore: «we have got one more song for you… it is called Bleeding Earth». Which starts with an instrumental intro that is interrupted, by the vocal intervention of the singer who shoots other roars in the ears of the listeners. Here is the end ... an outro? So it is written in the setlist even though it seems to me more reprise of the last song, anyway, beyond this, Grimaze thanks everyone and seem very satisfied with the welcome given to them by the audience, and the audience as well, who in the meantime had slightly increased, returns back its satisfaction with screams and applauses. An essential but, at the same time, overflowing concert full of mid tempos and very well played,

although perhaps it lacked a bit of originality, but this is a personal opinion. Analysing in more detail, can be easily seen an unusual combination of music ranging from old-school death metal, with references to groups like Obituary and Asphyx. It is articulated along with more modern and technical sounds that are of American metal groove (Pantera). It often happens that recently, the lesser famous bands don’t know how to break away from their models, but this does not happen to the Bulgarian quintet that behaves very well and rarely does trivial things and which, as I have already mentioned, is decidedly based on average times. A show that has had a so reminiscent for devastating impact example of Gojira, and that has great (the bass player of precision. the group wears Certainly, a place the French band’s that is still not very T-shirt) and with crowded does not heavy rhythmic and help a performance cadenced parts that but Grimaze have refer to the sonorities continued to split

Bleeding gods were chosen as the main supporter group for this tour. The band was founded
in 2012 in Utrecht by the guitarist Ramon Ploeg. Their artistic activity of the band begins with the demo Blood Symphony in 2013 and followed by two full lengths Sheperd of Souls in 2015 and the recent Dodekathlon 2018, on which their setlist is based. The band is formed by Mark Huisman on the voice Ramon Ploeg and Rutger van Noordenburg on the guitars Jessica Otten on the bass Daan Klemann on drums and David Gutierrez Rojas on the keyboard. With their image much
more markedly based on black metal with a beautiful face painting reminiscent of the last Marduk, Bleeding Gods, they will be the Pestilence companions for much of this tour. As it was easy to understand from the moment they entered the stage with the arrival of the Dutch sextet the atmosphere changed radically, in fact, the group offers a death metal style with influences ranging from symphonic black metal to thrash that feels the fascination of groups such as Nile, the Behemoths or the Dimmu Borgir. In this

From the comparison with the previous bands that have practically not focused on the visual impact, the contrast is remarkable, we immediately notice the greater visual impact that the group has with flashy banners to cover part of the amplification and another large one at the bottom of the stage with the name of the band. Just a shame that the stage of the Traffic is not big and moreover it also had to host the material of other three bands and the form of sextet makes

the exhibition a little contracted due to lack of space, however ours do not seem bothered by these limitations and they proceed on their way. Once the last sound details are setted, the exhibition can begin. Now everyone is in position and finally the concert begins on the notes of the intro (there will be other instrumental parts to mark various moments of the concert), the drummer (strangely he is still a drummer to be protagonist on the scene). It is 9.55 pm, the melodic and mysterious intro accompanies the movements of the drummer who gets

up lifting a skull with an eloquent gesture as if he wanted to offer it to the public while a voice recites a sort of evocation, (unfortunately, the content of the text is not understandable to my ears!). At the end of this short show, the band starts to play, starting with the song Bloodguilty that is the track that also opens the album. It has a robust and energetic sound system in which the orchestration and the keyboard line play quite clearly together with guitars. It is interesting to note that at the halfway point the territory of the progressive is touched, before a fuzzy guitar solo stratifies the grandeur. Excellent the refrain as well as the vocal impact. After a brief presentation, the notes of the second track Beloved by Artemis start immediately, it begins with a thumping drum and sustained by heavy guitar riffs in an epic and monumental atmosphere given by the keyboard parts looming over the rhythmic texture, until
it is sharply broken by a short guitar solo. At the end of the song, Mark with his grim expression screams to the audience in Italian: Grazieeeee! A second instrumental intro introduces the listeners to the second part of the show, which includes another couple of songs. Here is Saviour of Crete, which has a more cadenced rhythmic pattern than the previous
ones, the bass line is more evident, and it seems to me that on this track the vocals of Mark Huisman is particularly at ease. Bleeding Gods are not as wild as for example,
Grimaze but they still manage to make a great impression on the public. Another long solo punctuates the structure of the song, with violent accelerations that accompany us until the end of the track and immediately another scream: “Thanks Rome!” At this point, another mysterious and obscure evocation resonates within TrafficLive and Mark adds over “... Let me see some chaos!” At this point, a melodic and very evocative instrumental part opens and transports us in a persuasive way to the next song; it is Birds of Hate, perhaps the most aggressive song that Bleeding Gods presents to us this evening. It consists in a muscular Herculean line of drums, which denotes a powerful thrash inflection. It is unusual to hear thrash influencies in a product of this kind that forms the basis for many of the heavier sequences. Within the song, the voice of Mark Huisman seems particularly at ease in dealing with this type of style: «Grazie Roma!” he repeats again at the end of the track and just before the beginning of
the new intro that will open the third part of the concert. A new monumental keyboard intro here too with an evocative voice introduces us
to the third part of the concert with the track Tripled Anger. In this song, the thrash metal influence is most
Reviews
noticeable, which, in my opinion, serves to highlight the great work of guitar riffs. The song clearly approaches the style of Dimmu Borgir with an insistent keyboard, throughout the song, certainly pleasant combined with a drums section that produces decisive and devastating accelerations, here towards the middle of the song when it slows down and a persuasive and mysterious melody takes its place accompanied by an evocative voice to return, in the final part, to the initial fury. I m m e d i a t e l y afterwards, without any pause, it is time for Hera’s Orchard, that has a decisely more bland rhythm and an interesting rhythmic section along with exquisitely crafted guitar solos, among which, one is used as the ending of the song. Here towards the end, Mark Huisman screams inviting the public to keep the time with their hands and the audience clap the hands following the drumbeats. At the end of Hera’s Orchard a new intro (or perhaps it is better to mark it them as interludes?), takes

us to the next song that Mark presents screaming: “This is ... From Feast to Beeeeast!” Here is precisely the song From Feast to Beast that closes the performance, and the one in which the most melodic parts seem to me to be decidedly more…, there is the keyboard to lord it alternating with harder sections, in which we find decisive rolls, more thrashy and more powerful. The orchestration and the instrumentation perfectly match each track, following, “charging” and chanting the great adventures of the
60
demigod. Here is the end and again, Mark thanks the audience: “Thank you Romaaa! Thank you so fucking much!”. The Dutch sextet has already repeatedly trod the stages of half of Europe and immediately proves to have great familiarity and a very involving stage presence as well as being endowed with an enviable musical cohesion. I didn’t even know them except by hearsay, so I didn’t know what to expect from their performance, but I was significantly impressed
by the Dutch band’s concert. Sore point for the sound performance, which has improved only towards the end and that has not allowed the public to fully enjoy the guitar solos and the keyboard of David Gutierrez Rojas, which is a little sacrificed, from the sound setting of the first tracks.

It’s always a pleasure for me to review Pestilence! I do it this year, like I did the previous year with great interest and, as I did for the previous bands, I would like to remember the salient stages of the band’s career, (even if there would be no need for it) Pestilence were originally formed in the Netherlands in mid-1986 as a thrash metal band. They later became a death metal band and incorporated more jazz and fusion influences into their music. After making two demos, they present the historic first full length Malleus Maleficarum followed a year later by the superb Consuming Impulse and then Testimony of the ancients, in 1991
and, Spheres in 1993. Pestilence broke up then in 1994, when the band members decided to dedicate themselves to other projects, after many years of inactivity under the initiative of Patrick Mameli and Patrick Uterwijk the band re-joined in 2008 to realize three more albums, Resurrection Macabre in 2009, Doctrine in 2011 and Obsideo in 2013. Shortly after the release of the seventh album, the band decides to split again, in 2014. But it is only two years later, however, that Patrick takes up the project again, this time alone and calls to him several musicians, until the realization of another album Hadeon in 2018, that is the last one for now (a new
album is announced in 2020). During their career, Pestilence changed their line up numerous times and currently, in addition to Patrick Mameli, voice and guitar are drummer Septimiu Hărşan, guitarist Calin Paraschiv and new young bassist Edward Negrea who arrived just at the end of the previous year. All of them are member of the Romanian brutal/ death band Necrovile. The Dutch singer and guitarist of Italian origins (and the only original member left in the band), is one of the symbolic musicians of the death metal scene of the early 90s, which pushed this genre towards a complexity, a technical development and unespected mixes

with prog, fusion and jazz, which contributed to the proliferation of the genre and to create multiple branches and facets. The concert coincides with the release of a new reprint of Consuming Impulse under the Hammerheart Records label sponsored by the group and enhanced by the recovery of the original artwork, albeit modified. However, we come to take care of the concert. It starts with a long work of sound check where all the instruments are carefully tested for a better sound performance. The public is already

impatient. He wants to listen to the concert. The tension is high, in the meantime, other people have arrived, and the public is much more numerous even if the place is not completely full. Finally, we are ready to start. Here a few m i n u t e s passed after 11.00 p.m., a slight delay compared to the programmed schedule, all the members are in their position, we can start! Inside the Traffic, we begin to listen to the first notes of the intro (Proliferous Souls), with the members of the back who give their backs to the public. The short instrumental track of Consuming Impulse, in this occasion,
is used as an intro. But suddenly, at the same time the members of the band turn to the audience and take their positions for the real start of the concert, which, as mentioned before, includes all the tracks of Consuming impulse. The songs of the album are performed in the order in which they are placed in the album, except Proliferous Souls that is not the first track on the album. After Proliferous Souls, without any pause, they continued with Dehydrated, the fast and very heavy song starts to unleash the crowd. The heavy
beats of a very precise drumming section begin to resonate inside the TrafficLive; a short slowdown and then again the pounding rhythm traveling with a guitar solo (to tell the truth a little too low in volume). Patrick is very tight and in the end, he screams in Italian: «Porca puttanaaa» (can be translated in English with “holy shit”), then asks for a little more volume on the speaker, (there is a black need) then in Italian: «Siamo arrivati!» (We have arrived) and continues: “As you, all know we are playing the whole album Consuming Impulse and we are playing chronological order, which the next song is called The Process of Suffocation. Decisely more evident with his remarkable thrashy and very fast riff (as in the song that preceded it), one of those riffs according to now, with a more adequate volume and me. The rhythm of the song is one of those that give to the head! Patrick’s voice is not like that of Martin Van Drunen but it stands up to comparison. At the end of the conception, Patrick thanks the public
again in Italian with a: «Grazie!” Then he drinks something from a milk / fruit juice brick (it is not clear), even if some people of the audience would prefer that he drank beer, and had
no qualms about to saying it! After a short pause, Mameli continues to present the following songs: “this next song is about curing disease, curing disease through Suspended Animation. It starts again with the hammering sound. This is a violent and frantic track, which, however, is endowed with light touches of the keyboard that

prove to be perfectly apt and functional. The central part has a more melodic mood while not losing the angry vocation, the rage, that pervades the whole track, still very fast and very technical solos not only Patrick but also Calin makes us feel what it is made of! Even after this song, Patrick does not fail to thank the public again screaming in Italian «Grazie!» Shortly afterwards, he introduces the next track: «This song is about soldiers coming back from what fuck with their minds ... a little bit crazy about these guys ... the song is called The Trauma. In this song after a quieter start, we find sounds closer to the more classical death metal. The song turns out to be a powerful punch in the stomach, not only for the lyrics but also for the melody. The people is very satisfied attending to this concert! Here, again the frontman is talking to the public saying: “So how have you been Rome? Yeees we were here last year as well do you remember? Yes you do. I see some faces that I recognize and some new faces...

Live on stage Reviews that´s good! This next song is about the Chronic Infection. Another serie of hammerblows begins to pour down on the ears of the listeners, a beautiful drum solo introduces to another song with a rather death mood, the bass is particularly tight even the drums don’t miss a beat. Patrick and Calin continue to churn out solos at sidereal speeds. The suffering and choked voice of Patrick seems to me particularly suitable for this (master)piece. At the end, Patrick does not fail to thank (again), the crowd: «Thank you ... thank you! ... From the audience rises one: «Dai Patrizio!» (Go Patrick) he smiles and continues with a lower voice: «the next song is about spiders, these spiders who crawl your skin and mouth when they come out ... swezy (?) of the album. This song has a power as well as an extreme speed of execution of the tight and branched rhythms that also adapt to the themes of that very visionary album. The audience always responds with more energy following the rhythm of the song with a rhythmic head banging, it seems to me that someone else is still entering the club! Solos, solos and more solos was among the things I wanted to hear this evening and I was abundantly repaid and is not over yet, the bonecrusher beat, although not too fast, has taken virtually every one of the listeners. The audience is completely unleashed: «Thanks!» Again, Patrick screams joking with the audience
by proposing a sort of quiz: «Any of you guys knows what song comes next ... Does anybody know what song comes the next? What comes after Out of the body? No one answers and Patrick continues to the public: «Wow ... you loose the quiz ... I win» some second after, someone from the back of the hall screams Echoes of death! Moreover, Patrick satisfied; «Yes, very good the next song is called Echoes of Death». A new turn towards a sound more death but always with the same cleanliness and precision the sharp and a bit awkward song of Patrick violently hits the ears of those present to notice the extreme precision and concentration of Edward Negrea
the young Romanian bass player diligently follows the line of all the songs. At the end of the track, Patrick continues to greet the public for coming at the concert. Often Patrick likes to interact with the audience talking to them: «Thank you! How you guys is doing? Are you ok, having a good time or what? Thank you for coming out tonight supporting all the bands supporting first death metal school ... «cause that is all about right? We love it «...» Yeah! «The audience replies enthusiastically and Patrick continues with thanks:» First I like to thank you, my friend, Carlo ... but you man ... Roberto Toderico ... yes ... and my girlfriend i love you
and know it alright? Next time I get my tattoo right. I really love these kind pauses especially, in a concert like this where the tension is always very high and is not too affected by these short moments of irony. Therefore, we have to c o n t i n u e with the next song... I hope you will like it... Check it out...” And here it is, after Echoes of death it’s my favourite song of the album this is Deify Thy Master, not only me but also even other people that I find in the front row can’t contain the enthusiasm! Patrick also looked at us realizes that we like it, surely even on stage they eared me screaming the refrain of this song that I know by heart. The public that has now become numerous makes itself felt and sees with pogo of all respect. Here is the first song from the album The Secrecies of the Horror, with its mysterious intro and its mind-
blowing riff, followed by Twisted Truth that Patrick presents as a sexy song and dedicates to the women present this evening. Subsequently, an unexpected hit, the only one taken from a post-reunion album, I am talking about Horror Detox from the album Resurrection Macabre leading us to the very last song, the evil and melancholic Land of Tears. Here Septimiu Hărşan’s drums and the young Eduard Negrea’ bass, are played at cosmic speed, while Patrick’s unmistakable and strangled growl puts a seal to a concert, in which the intensity of the music does not show its age at all, except in Patrick’s experience. It gives us all the power, brutality and the visionary creativity of the horrific death metal of his golden age and that, after tonight’s performance, confirms his unrepeatable topicality. The somewhat ungraceful growl of Patrick Mameli manages to fit perfectly above all on the sounds

We try to develop the sound with each release. We touch upon rock’n’roll, and hesitate to confide ourself with a specific genre. ITD: I noticed you’re playing with a Drudkh tee tonight... Vinterbris: Drudkh is one of our great inspirations. We experiment a lot with different equipment; trying to make a sound that no one’s tried before. In a way, we play classical music, but in a new wrapping. On the topic of equipment, I must say that we spend a lot of time searching for rare and used gear on Finn. One time we decided on a Marshall amp, and drove into Sweden with an electric car to get it. It took five charges before we were there! ITD: Where did you get the name from? Martin has been with us for two years, and he has wrote some songs. Martin and Ivan (drums) has known each other for 18 years. We had our first concert at 1880 (a youth club in Bergen), UKM 2009. Nine years ago, that makes me 17, and we had played together only for a few months. Growing up in the city of rain, Bergen, with poor clothing has inspired me to write about the hardships of life. Our latest song, for the time being called “Estrangement” (named after the Drudkh album), is about the hypocrisy in all we do. Showing no interest in the environment while consuming infinite amounts of everything. You have to think about how to care for what you have, and appreciate the opportunities given. You have to think about the consequences of what you are doing. In Absurdum is a highly experimental recording, in which we challenge ourselves. ITD: What is your favourite song to play live? Steelfest open air, Hyvinkää, Finland May 17-18, 2019 REVIEW By Olga Schneider
Hallo zusammen! Now I’m more or less back to reality, so I’m ready to tell about STEELFEST OPEN AIR 2019 in details. By the way, that was my first trip to a foreign Metal festival. So it was a true hellish trip: Nizhny Novgorod-MoscowSt. Petersburg, where our travel group united and went to
74
Hyvinkää (fukk, I coulnd’t remember the name of the city for half a year! So, it’s ca 40 km driving from Helsinki)...
Only 7 hours driving, so there we are! And since a regular school was equipped as a hostel during the festival,
We also had to wait before settling until their classes ended. Life will never be the same XD As for the city, it was so incredibly small and s i l e n t , some kind of virgin b e i n g defiled by L u c i f e r once a year. Since the passage to any event of this magnitude is inevitably connected with the control of all that you carry, the first thing that really sunk into the soul is incredible politeness of the guards. Our Russian security dudes definitely have something to learn from these guys. As for the festival area itself, it was not so huge, there was a big openair stage and an hangar. The most part of everything takes place in the open air: most of the territory of the fest is grass where you can lie around the clock, a few tents with food and drinks, some tents with merch and things like that. Regarding the prices, by the way, nothing
special, everything was completely OK. As for the first day, there was actually nothing to do, the most interesting
things were expected by the evening. By 8 o’clock we headed to BELPHEGOR sign session. I must be honest, my hands vere simply shaking. And yeah, this was
just incredible feeling to finally meet the frontman of my favorite band while we had communicated

via Internet for one and half year. The dudes’ performance itself was devilishly enchantingt: sound, their behavior on s t a g e , feedback from the audience ... Yes, I saw with my own eyes what happened 3 years ago in Moscow, so here we can say that we also made up for that time. Since the dudes performed on the open stage and started at 21.45, it was still very light outside, but that didn’t affect the atmosphere. Everyone who has ever been at Belphegor gig at least once knows that they turn each of their performances into a true ritual, and they don’t have to use a bunch of scenery and everything else for that. By the way, the very famous bone sculptures could not be brought there, due to some security rules, according to Helmuth’s words. I highly appreciate the fact that we managed to talk after the show, and... Just incredible grateful for his kind words, for his support and everything in general.

Live on stage Reviews After having walked around the festival area, we headed to see IMMOLATION. This is one of such bands that you can assume you don’t know at all until you see their live performance. They don’t have any special show, and even any scenic images, the «come out and play» dudes. But how to play, this is a completely different thing! Watching their technical game, seeing this fire in their eyes is a pleasure! It seemed that they decided to include in the setlist everything only the best of their c r e a tivity. A f t e r a truly hardcore night in the hostel we walked through the ciry and went to the festival area again in the afternoon. There’s really so much to tell, but I’ll try to pick out some

W.A.R. - veni vidi vici Vorphalack, Xytraguptor, Drop and Zorrac played the first two SAMAEL’s albums, «Worship Him» and «Blood Ritual,» and the audience celebrated them. It would be like taking water into Lake Lucerne to take on the two landmark albums, even though it would have been easy in the rain that night. A one-time journey back to the beginning (the two releases are almost 30 years old) and you could tell the band that they had the pleasure to relive those beginnings. Over the course of 30 years, Darkthrone has become a staple of the global Black Metal genre, forging a legacy as one of the most influential bands in its illustrious and often infamous history. Fenriz enthuses «Old star – again we are here with THE RIFFS! A while after our previous ARCTIC THUNDER album it became apparent that we would continue in that same style, BLACK OLD HEAVY METAL with slow thrash, classic doom and slow death metal. As many have focussed on the 70s sound over the last 20 years, the mix on our new album has ended up being more 80s than ever. The songs are more metal than ever! Ted’s songs have alot of black metal in them, faster and slower but also doomier parts and reocurring parts. My songs are more linear written, it’s an ancient 80s underground trick, with breaks, all slow heavy or slow thrash, classic doom or slow death.» Lineup Fenriz - Drums, Vocals (additional), Bass, Guitars (additional), Lyrics Nocturno Culto - Vocals, Guitars, Bass Will be released on May 31th, 2019.

The band released their first album, Abbath, on January 22, 2016, and played live for the first time at Tuska Open Air 2015. On 14 March 2019, Abbath announced their second studio album ‘Outstrider’ will be released on July 5, 2019 and a new line up that recorded the album and will perform live was revealed which included drummer Ukri Suvilehto, guitarrist Raud and bassist Mia Wallace.
Polish extreme metal veterans Vader will release the new EP titled, Thy Messenger, on May 31st via Nuclear Blast Records. VADER are currently re-arming themselves; after an armistice of more than two years, the «Thy Messenger» EP will bring back the thundering dark clouds of war in May, and it’s only the harbinger of an even greater, more monumental thunderstorm, that will rise in the sky in late 2019. The EP contains five tracks with the power for infernal destruction, among them a heavy cover of the classic JUDAS PRIEST song ‘Steeler’, and a new version of their uncompromising song ‘Litany’. The band comments: «We decided to record the new EP because we knew that the full length new album won’t be released before the end of 2019. The EP includes three new tracks - mostly really vicious and aggressive tracks, even for VADER. ‘Emptiness’ is more groovy in the main riff but really heavy at the end. All the songs are fast and short, but pretty intense, I guess. We’ve also added a new version of our classic title track from ‘Litany’. Another bonus is the absolute classic cover of ‘Steeler,’ which was always one of my all time favorite PRIEST songs.» Will be released on May 31th, 2019.
The German Pagan/Black Metal band Varg has earned a name in the scene and a huge fanbase over the years. The band has always been able to score points through their live performances and their skillful mix of pagan and black metal with classic heavy metal bonds has been the subject of much controversy but has also brought them sold out halls. After their last album ‘The End of All Lies’ (release via Universal), Varg now released their debut album ‘Wolfszeit II’. The album has not been available for years and is constantly in demand by fans. Instead of just pressing a reissue of the album, the band has decided to completely re-record the album. The result is - according to the band’s own announcements - the fattest production Varg ever made. And indeed, the old songs come in the new sound robe incredibly authentic but also incredibly bold. Varg return to their roots with a new lineup around the two founding members Fenrier and Freki. Lineup Fenrier - Drums Freki - Guitars, Vocals Garm - Guitars Morkai - Guitars
