Family and Community Health Sciences The mission of the FCHS department is to improve the health of New Jersey individuals, families and communities. Health is broadly defined to include physical, psychosocial, and environmental factors. New Jersey Institute of Food, Nutrition and Health The mission of the New Jersey Institute of Food, Nutrition and Health is to make New Jersey not just the Garden State, but also, the Healthy State. The Institute will be a global center for academic excellence. Recognizing that many adult diseases have their origins in childhood, tapping into nutritional genomics, the Institute will focus on “pre-emptive nutrition” and “social-environmental” strategies to address obesity and obesity-related disorders.
