New Jersey Fee: $260 Multi fee: $230 16 Compost Operator Course code: ER0303CA12 2011 Certification N.J.A.C. 7:26A - 1.4(a)(14)(xiv) states that all operators of composting facilities in New Jersey must “attend a composting course.....approved by the Department.” The NJAES Office of Continuing Professional Education, in conjunction with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection and in cooperation with the Association of New Jersey Recyclers, has developed a course which meets the requirements of the regulations and will help you to improve your facility’s operation. Specific topics include: • NJDEP regulatory requirements • The scientific principles of composting, or “why compost happens” • How to avoid the Murphy’s Law of composting and what to do when the law strikes (health and odor issues). A Certificate of Completion will be provided to each fully paid participant. If you are a New Jersey Certified Recycling Professional (CRP), this class will give you six (6) of the twenty (20) recertification credits you need to maintain your certification. Course Instructor Wayne DeFeo is an independent consultant providing assistance to business, government and educational institutions. He has over 21 years of experience in the area of government relations and has worked in the private sector, guiding solid waste hauler deregulation and negotiating solid waste and recycling contracts.

This course is approved for 5.5 Technical credits for Certified Public Works Managers (CPWM).

The “Alternate” Recycling Certification Series This course is intended for county, municipal or other government employees who have significant experience (generally more than ten years) in the fields of recycling and/or solid waste or who have completed another professional certification program, such as those offered for health officers or public works managers. The topics and schedule were designed to present key information individuals familiar with recycling and solid waste programs in New Jersey will need to know to fulfill the duties of a Certified Recycling Professional (CRP). Upon completion of the four classes, attendees who wish to complete the program and receive certification are required to sit for and pass a written exam based on the content of the program presented.
