Federal regulations require all employees who work on sites that may expose them to hazardous substances or health hazards receive training allowing them to work safely, knowledgeably and effectively. Our classes meet all federal requirements for the initial 40-hour, 24-hour or the 8-hour annual refresher training set forth under OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Regulation [29 CFR 1910.120(e)] for public and private employees covered by these regulations. Note: TCH’s (safety) holders of NJ drinking water and wastewater, credits are available for all sessions.
Instructor - Gary P. Schwartz, CIH, CSP, CMC Mr. Schwartz has 30 years of professional experience in indoor air quality, occupational health and safety. At present, he is the Principal Consultant and President of PHASE Associates, L.L.C. He is also a Part Time Lecturer at Rutgers University in the Environmental Sciences Department.

The first three days of the 40-hour training program are designed to meet the 24-hour training requirements. Twenty-four hour training is designed for workers who are on site only occasionally for a specific limited task (such as, but not limited to, groundwater monitoring and land or geophysical surveying) and who are unlikely to be exposed to chemicals at levels that exceed permissible and/or published exposure limits. The course provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for personal protection and safety when working with or around sites that contain hazardous materials and/or waste.

These courses prepare you to sit for the national proficiency certification examinations (NEHA-NRPP or NRSB) and are administered in the evening at the conclusion of each course. Exams are offered for an additional fee and you must preregister in order to guarantee a seat. Fees for exams are listed above. For information regarding the NJ State Radon Program certification requirements and examination schedule, please call 609-984-7556. Outside of NJ, contact your State Radon Office.
Representatives from the NJDEP and industry will teach all aspects of the seminar and be available throughout the program to answer related questions.
