Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Expands to Orange County and the Co achella Valley

San Diego Based Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Acquires Hom Sotheby’s International Realty

Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty, in San Diego, California announced that they have acquired Hom Sotheby’s International Realty, based in Orange County, California. The acquired firm will now operate as Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty. “Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty’s acquisition of HOM Sotheby’s International Realty is a perfect example of an extremely well-executed plan. Local Broker/ Realtor John Evans was named to handle the Coto de Caza area. My team and I understood the importance of combining these two great companies to best represent the strength of the brand in southern California. The Sotheby’s International Realty brand has experienced unprecedented growth in the region and we know that this transaction will make the global brand available to even more top producing brokers and their clientele,” Phillip White, president and chief executive officer, Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC. “I am very proud of the team and have faith that under the direction and strong leadership of Steve Games, Nyda Jones-Church and Brian Arrington, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty is poised for continued success.” The acquisition will extend Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty’s reach north from the Mexican border

along the Southern California coast into Orange County, and to the east into the booming resort and retirement areas of Palm Springs, Indian Wells and La Quinta. The company will now support over 900 elite real estate professionals in 32 offices throughout Southern California, making Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty one of the largest Sotheby’s International Realty franchises in the brand’s global network. “The idea of uniting these companies was a long-term dream for us and provides the perfect opportunity to strengthen our market share by connecting two highly relevant markets in Southern California,” says Steve Games, CEO, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty. “We have the experience and the resources to successfully operate and grow in this market and we are excited to see it all come together at this time.” Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty was founded in 2010 by Brian Arrington, who joined forces with industry veterans Steve Games and Nyda Jones-Church in 2012. Together they have grown the company into the most dominant real estate firm in San Diego. The company currently has 22 offices, supporting over 500 real estate professionals across San Diego County. With a sales of over $4 billion in 2017, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty has quickly

become the number one real estate company in San Diego by volume. “Our goal has always been to focus on our agents and provide them with the marketing and management support needed to increase their sales production,” says Brian Arrington, Chairman, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty. “Quality and a commitment to our clients is ultimately what has set us apart in the industry and has driven our sales volume and rankings.” Hom Sotheby’s International Realty, which was founded in 2005, has approximately 300 agents with nine office locations in Orange County and the Coachella Valley. The company ended 2017 with sales volume of over $2.1 billion. Current management will remain in place and continue to lead Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty in Orange County and the Desert under its new ownership. “The agents and management in place at HOM Sotheby’s International Realty are among the best in the luxury real estate business,” says Nyda JonesChurch, President and COO, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty. “Integrating the Orange County and Palm Desert area markets with San Diego will provide the company with opportunity to bring additional resources to this market and continue to strengthen the Sotheby’s International Realty Brand

John Evans, Realtor across Southern California.” Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty is part of the Sotheby’s International Realty network of more than 21,000 affiliated independent sales associates located in 930 offices in 69 countries and territories worldwide. In 2016, the brand achieved a record global sales volume of $95 billion USD. Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty listings are marketed on the sothebysrealty. com global website. Bald eagle chicks hatch at Big Bear Lake With all eyes glued to a live streaming “nest cam,” viewers from all over the country watched as a bald eagle chick worked its way out of the egg at approximately 9:57 a.m. on the morning of Feb. 11, 2018, at a nest in San Bernardino National Forest near Big Bear Lake, Calif. The second chick hatched at approximately 12:20 p.m. On Feb. 12, 2018. Two eggs were laid in early Jan. in the nest of a pair of eagles. The pair took turns on the nest during the 35 day incubation period, including through a snow storm. The second egg was laid three days later than the first and is expected to hatch within a few days. In November 2016, the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley, with the support of the U.S. Forest Service, installed a live-stream camera near the nest. The livestream can be viewed at http://www.iws.org/ livecams.html (Select “Big Bear Eagle Cam, Big Bear Lake). The camera allows viewers to watch the nest action up close and personal without causing any disturbance that might result in the eagles abandoning the chicks. The parents are a newly identified nesting pair. Forest Service biologists believe that the female hatched from this nesting area in February 2012 and that she now occupies her natal territory after it was abandoned in 2017. On the live-stream camera, she can be distinguished from the male by a few black-tinged tail feathers. By next year, when she has gained her full adult plumage, those feathers will be all white. She is also larger than the male, a size distinction common in most raptors.

Both parents share in incubation and parenting duties. If all goes well, the chicks will leave the nest in two and a half to three months. They’ll stay close to their parents while they hone their hunting skills. Until then, the parents will continue to help provide food. This Big Bear nesting territory has produced four eagles since the first successful nesting occurred early in 2012. To protect the eagles from disturbances which could affect young survival, the area surrounding the nest is completely closed to all public entry. The public is invited to help Forest Service and California State Park biologists at the remaining winter bald eagle counts on Saturday, March 10. The events are held at six Inland Empire lakes, including Big Bear Lake. For more information about bald eagles and viewing opportunities, call or visit the Forest Service’s Big Bear Discovery Center (909-382-2790;

40971 North Shore Drive/Hwy 38, Fawnskin, CA 92333). The mission of the U.S. Forest Service, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The agency manages 193 million acres of public land, provides assistance to state and private landowners, and maintains the largest forestry research organization in the world. Public lands the Forest Service manages contribute more than $13 billion to the economy each year through visitor spending alone. Those same lands provide 20 percent of the nation’s clean water supply, a value estimated at $7.2 billion per year. The agency has either a direct or indirect role in stewardship of about 80 percent of the 850 million forested acres within the U.S., of which 100 million acres are urban forests where most Americans live.

Garage space isn’t just for cars anymore

The word garage, when looked up in the dictionary, has a simple meaning: a building or indoor area for parking or storing motor vehicles. By and large, this definition sums up exactly what comes to mind for most folks when they hear the word. But for some folks, garages are so much more than a space to park the family minivan and store the cumbersome and unattractive trash and recycling bins. Instead, they are functioning spaces of the home that, in the eye of the homeowner, serve just as much purpose as a kitchen or a bathroom and deserve just as much attention to detail. More and more, people are using garages as space to actually live in. It isn’t just extra room anymore. Since the 1950s, most garages in North America are of the “attached” variety, meaning that they are part of the actual main home and not a separate building on the property. From music studios to man caves, art spaces to playrooms, garages are quickly becoming more integral parts of the family home. They are heated and cooled. They are equipped with cable and Internet capabilities. They are accessorized with attractive lighting and flooring choices. While wall cabinetry units may still house things like a yard rake

and a collection of tennis racquets and lacrosse sticks, they are also being chosen to integrate in such a fashion that the garage is truly seen as another room in the home, no matter what the intended end use of the square footage. The gateway to the garage, of course, is the garage door. Garage doors, even though they impact the exterior look of the home, have not always been given as much careful consideration, as a design element, as the rest of the house. But now, more than ever, garage doors are getting special treatment in the design arena - both from the exterior and interior perspectives. A consumer using garage space as an art studio may choose a door with more window panels, as to increase and enhance the natural light that comes into the space. The parents of a budding rock band musician who uses the space as a performing and recording area might need to take into account the ability of the door to reduce the noise carrying to other parts of the house. Garage spaces can even be beautifully appointed to serve as living rooms, sunrooms, and a variety of other entertaining spaces that integrate seamlessly with the design and decor of the rest of the home. A ground-breaking addition to

the garage world is the new Trento Collection, distributed by Amarr, a company that has been a leader in the garage door industry with decades of innovation and design. Available in an almost unlimited number of looks, doors in the Trento Collection can be customized to fit the architecture of any home. Unlike traditional garage doors that operate via a series of springs, rails and tracks along the ceiling, Trento Collection garage doors showcase revolutionary technology and Italian design, featuring a patented overlap design that allows the door to open by folding neatly in half without any ceiling hardware to clutter the

overhead space in the garage. This allows for a Trento door to take up far less space and appear significantly sleeker on the inside and outside than the traditional garage door. So give your garage another look. It is a fine space for doing the things that traditionally make us think of garages, of course, but take a look at your garage space with a fresh eye. The space can be so much more. Entertaining space, work space, a space for a personal hobby that you’ve always wanted in your home but could never figure out how to have. The possibilities are endless. -(BPT)

Sweetheart Dance at the Mission Viejo, Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge By Andy Costello What could be nicer for Valentine’s Day than to take your partner to the Sweetheart Dance at the Mission Viejo, Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge? One hundred twelve seniors attended the dinner dance sponsored by the Elks Lodge in cooperation with the Norman Murray Senior Center. Red Hearts and roses valentines adorned the Lodge room walls and the tables were set in a red and white valentine theme. Music was provided by the talented Wayne Pulcini who kept the dance floor filled throughout the event. Dinner was served and diners enjoyed a mixed green salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing, Chicken Cordon Blue or Vegetarian Lasagna, and sweetheart cake for desert, courtesy of Elks kitchen cooks and volunteer servers: Dennis Boelts, Laura Lumley, Basia bills, Judy Klinger, and Vicky Long. Helping out was Elks Exalted Ruler Mike Long and Leading Knight Mike Klinger taking photos. The event was chaired

by Elks Past Exalted Ruler Gloria R. LeCouvre. On hand from the Murray Senior Center was Jan Brown Senior Community Services Leader. Four gift baskets were raffled-off. Winners were Julie Hill, Candis Davis, Irene Romero PER, and Vincent Marotto. The Sweetheart Dinner Dance is one of two such events held for the seniors of the Saddleback Valley each year, as part of the Elks Community Involvement Program. The next Senior Dance will be in October. The Mission Viejo/Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge #2444 is celebrating 49 years of service to Saddleback Valley Communities. It is one of 10 lodges in the Orange Coast District of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) whose headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois. The BPOE is a charitable organization with a 150 year history of giving. “Elks Care Elks Share” For information regarding Elks programs or membership, call 949 830-3557.

Heritage Pointe Hosts 28th Annual Fundraising Gala; Raises $200,000

Event Co-chair Donna Markovitz, Keynote Speaker Ron Suskind, and Heritage Pointe, Orange County’s premier independent, assisted-living Event Co-chair Gail Taleisnik and memory care Senior community, hosted its 28th Annual Fundraising Gala “8 OVER 80” in grand style at the elegant Island Hotel in Newport Beach. The festivities began with a sumptuous cocktail reception in the foyer of the Grand Ballroom, followed by a delectable four course dinner inside the elegant Grand Ballroom, with over 500 guests in attendance at this not-to-be-missed annual Gala. Barbara Shapiro, well-known Orange County philanthropist, Chaired this year’s gala, joined by her committee consisting of long-time Heritage Pointe Board member, Roberta Feuerstein, Ann Miller, and Elana Samson. All four of these women have lent their tremendous support to many organizations within the Orange County Jewish community, and Heritage Pointe was extremely fortunate to have them all serve for this auspicious and celebratory event. “It is an honor to have been asked to Chair this very significant event, recognizing eight outstanding individuals who are in their 80s, and who have continued to give back to their community in so many ways,” stated Event Chair Barbara Shapiro. “I try to be someone who would have made my Mother and Grandmother, of blessed memory, proud. Because I lost them at a young age, I appreciate the wisdom of my elders. You learn a lot Madeline Zuckerman, Mike Silverman, CEO of Heritage Pointe, and spending time with older people. Hearing their stories of love, overcoming Beth Slavin, Director of Philanthropy for Heritage Pointe hardships, their successes, and family dynamics, can inspire you to avoid or embrace those aspects of life.” Shapiro continued. This event honored “8 Over 80” exemplary Orange County philanthropists, who are role models for charitable giving and the spirit that makes such generosity possible. The distinguished group of “8 Over 80” Honorees recognized at this year’s Gala included Leona Aronoff-Sadacca, Dr. Doris Chasin, Rose Lacher, Dr. Joe & Barbara Lebovitz, Marlene Mitnick, Dr. Herb Modelevsky, Blossom Siegel, and Polly Sloan. “8 OVER 80” lauds the creativity and significance of the over 80 generation, something our honorees demonstrate every day,” stated Beth Slavin, Director of Philanthropy for Heritage Pointe. “Each honoree vigorously supports worthy causes that continually enrich our community and inspire individuals. With 30 % of the U.S. population expected to reach 80 or older by 2030, “8 OVER 80” reflects the changing times in which we live. We asked the Orange County Jewish community to nominate these philanthropic individuals from our community, therefore, Heritage Pointe did not select these individuals. These honorees, who are in their ninth and tenth decades, continue to live lives of remarkable achievement, vitality, and civic engagement. During the Gala a very special and touching video was shown, produced by Josh Friedman, which gave all of the guests a snapshot into the lives of these Kathy Waldman finding a extraordinary honorees. Sharon Kraus and Shirley Field treasure shopping Scott Siegel, who was recognized last year along with his wife Leslie, as Heritage Pointe’s Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree, presented the “8 Over 80” distinguished Honorees with their special awards during the Gala. “This celebration represents all that the Orange County Jewish community should be proud of -- a rich heritage of giving, a heritage of caring for others – a heritage of repairing the world one mitzvah at a time,” stated Heritage Pointe CEO Mike Silverman. The evening’s entertainment was provided by the highly-acclaimed Bonnie Foster Productions, featuring its high-energy seven-piece band performing a variety of music for all guests to enjoy. Heritage Pointe is a nonprofit, residential community of 225 residents in Mission Viejo, California, providing independent, assisted-living, and memory care services for the elderly, while incorporating Jewish traditions and lifestyles. Heritage Pointe offers specialized social, cultural, religious, and educational activities for its residents. Contributions from this event will benefit the Heritage Fund, which provides assistance to residents who are in financial need. Heritage Pointe’s vision is simple, to foster an exceptional environment based on Jewish values where all community members, including seniors, their families, and volunteers can learn, grow, live well, and flourish. Do It Yourself Car Care Everyone Can Do

While taking your car to an auto service professional is a great way to ensure its performance, the Car Care Council reminds vehicle owners there are few simple vehicle checks that they can easily learn and do themselves to save a little money and help keep their vehicles running efficiently all summer long. With basic knowledge of common maintenance practices and a little time, motorists can inspect the following components in their own driveway: Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering and brake and transmission, as well as windshield washer fluid and antifreeze/coolant. Check the hoses and belts as they can become cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or show signs of excessive wear. These are critical to the proper functioning of the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and the cooling system.

Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and inspect and replace worn wiper blades. Keep the reservoir filled with windshield washer fluid. To keep the cooling system working effectively, the coolant and distilled water mixture for a vehicle’s radiator should be 50:50. Never open a hot radiator cap when checking the coolant level in the reservoir. As a rule of thumb, the coolant should be changed annually on most vehicles. Check the gas cap to ensure it is not damaged, loose or missing to prevent gas from spilling or evaporating. Don’t neglect the exterior. When washing the outside, make sure to include the tires and wheels and the underside and fenders to eliminate any road salt or grime. The body of the vehicle should be washed using a product sold specifically for cars. Wax your vehicle every six months. To learn more about how to care for your vehicle, and for a free copy of the popular Car Care Guide, visit www.carcare.org.

National forest ‘fee free’ days in 2018

Visitors to San Bernardino National Forest will be able to enjoy picnic areas, trailheads and recreational day-use sites without having to purchase an Adventure Pass on six days this year. These “fee free” days are offered across the country by the U.S. Forest Service: • Feb. 19: President’s Day • June 9: National Get Outdoors Day • Sept. 22: National Public Lands Day • Nov. 11 - 12: Veterans Day Weekend “From Wrightwood to Idyllwild, the San Bernardino National Forest offers a variety of rich experiences for visitors,” said Forest Supervisor Jody Noiron. “You can play in snow, hike the tallest peaks in Southern California, explore hundreds of miles of dirt roads and immerse yourself in nature.” For non-fee free days, the Adventure Pass costs $5 for a day pass and $30 for an annual one. Funds raised go back in to recreation sites for maintenance of parking lots, bathrooms, trash cans, signage, trailheads and other recreation facilities. Visitors who inadvertently commit a

Diavolo delivers DANCE excitement at IRVINE BARCLAY By Lydia E. Ringwald With high-flying energy, Diavolo redefines the boundaries of gravity and creates unanticipated visual wonders. Diavolo’s work takes movement and athletics and creates surreal tableaux on a grand scale. ‘Passengers’ is a mind trip. It is a piece about people caught in the wild loop of their shifting states of mind. Their unrelenting search for identity and self is a powerful reminder that we are merely Passengers on this vehicle called Life. Inspired by Sebastian Junger’s novel, Tribe, and the vital stories of the veterans in our own community, ‘The Veteran’s Project’ is a fourmonth workshop that uses movement as medicine to help heal and connect our American heroes. The program culminates in a presentation that reflects on themes such as inner strength, renewal, resilience and the meaning of Home. DIAVOLO | Architecture in Motion® uses dance to explore the relationship between the human body and its architectural environment. Artistic Director Jacques Heim steers DIAVOLO’s diverse team of dancers, designers, choreographers and engineers to create visceral and aweinspiring works that reveal how we are affected emotionally, physically and socially by the spaces we inhabit. Meticulously designed bespoke architectural structures serve as the central inspiration for each work, activated by the stylistically varied and intensely physical choreography which has become the hallmark of this truly original company throughout its rich 25 year history. UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts presents ‘Dance Visions’ February 22-24 at Irvine Barclay Theater with Chad Michael Hall and Tong Wang as Artistic Directors. Dance Visions 2018, the Department of Dance at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts prime annual production, is ready to thrill audiences with original choreography from the illustrious dance faculty including Lar Lubovitch, Molly Lynch, Donald McKayle and Lisa Naugle, with video by John Crawford. Their vibrant and provocative compositions will feature graduate and undergraduate dance students under the direction of artistic directors Chad Michael Hall and Tong Wang. The showcase also includes the UCI Symphony Orchestra, a premier ensemble from the Department of Music, with selections conducted my Maestro Stephen Tucker. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet performs on April 5, 2018 in a world premiere of new work by renowned choreographer Jorma Elo and live music with Joyce Yang at the piano. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s bold vision – top global choreographers, distinctive groundbreaking works, and virtuoso Page 24

dancers – has fostered a jewel of a dance company in the American West. Praised by the Los Angeles Times for her “compelling virtuosity,” pianist Joyce Yang has been captivating audiences all over the world with her lyricism and interpretive sensitivity. The evening program also includes Jirí Kylián’s Return to a Strange Land and Nicolo Fonte’s Where We Left Off. Irvine Barclay Theater presents Dance Theater of Harlem on April 18. Founded by Arthur Mitchell and the late Karel Shook in the basement of a church in 1969, Dance Theatre of Harlem has been making a difference in the world for half a century. The company’s unprecedented success, as a racially diverse company, school and source of arts education was built on creating innovative and bold new forms of artistic expression. Now under the artistic direction of Virginia Johnson, the company continues to inspire and uplift through the power of art. Renowned for inspired composition, the company presents an inventive repertoire of groundbreaking and nuanced choreography. Gold Seat purchase includes a post-performance reception with the artist(s). Since opening its doors in 1990, Irvine Barclay Theatre has emerged as one of California’s most imaginative performing arts showcases. A unique collaborative venture among the City of Irvine, the University of California, Irvine, and the private sector, the theatre has a reputation for wideranging programming in the fields of contemporary dance, music, and theater arts. Performances take place in the 750-seat “jewel box” theatre which is renowned for its intimate atmosphere and superb acoustics. Irvine Barclay Theatre is an independent non-profit organization established as an innovative publicprivate partnership with the vision of creating a unique performing arts venue. The private sector, the City of Irvine and the University of California, Irvine - combined funding and land to achieve a long-standing mutual goal. The partners created Irvine Barclay Theatre to showcase top quality artists, to provide a superior facility for local and regional arts groups, and to enhance UCI’s educational mission, particularly the programs generated by its School of the Arts. The theatre building is named for Mr. Richard Barclay, an area philanthropist, who provided the leading gift for the theatre’s construction. The theatre auditorium is named for Dr. George and Arlene Cheng, also area philanthropists. Irvine Barclay Theatre has gained a national reputation for its great acoustics, intimate feel, and the high quality of its production facilities. Among artists, it is a venue of

The Coto de Caza News

choice when performing in southern California. During the 1970’s, a group of supporters, guided by their conviction that the arts are the “soul” of a city, advocated the building of a community-based performing arts facility. After years of discussion, meetings, committee research and community activism, there emerged a unique public-private partnership comprised of leaders from the private sector and from the City of Irvine and the University of California, Irvine. The non-profit Irvine Barclay Theatre Operating Company was chartered in 1986 to further the design and construction goals and, upon opening, to operate the facility and its programming. The City contributed $11.3 million, mostly from voter-approved bond issues, to the $17.4 million project. The theatre’s board of trustees raised $4.3 million from private sources and the university provided the 2.3acre site as well as $1.8 million in construction funding. The Barclay, as it is commonly called, opened to the public on September 30, 1990, on time and on budget. The 50,000 square foot venue was designed by the San Francisco firm of Wurster, Bernardi and Emmons, which had been selected by competition. Noted architect Larry Cannon designed the building in a style sometimes referred to as “Bay Area modernism.” It is now valued in excess of $50 million while its design remains durably appealing. Now at our 25th anniversary, the 756-seat performing arts theatre has built a distinguished record of excellence, attracting audiences not just from Irvine, but from throughout

the southern California region. Its annual rosters of dance, theatre, music and spoken word are unique in Orange County for their diversity and, sometimes, adventurousness. Check out the exhibition catalog of our first 25 years. From its inception, the Barclay’s mission included serving the needs of local and regional cultural organizations as well as aiding UCI in achieving its educational mission. In the two decades since it opened, the theatre has become an important resource to dozens of community organizations, university programs, local arts groups and schools. The theatre has hosted as many as 215 public events in a single year. Nearly 2 million people have attended 3,600 events since opening. The Barclay specializes in presenting programs and providing facilities to groups reflecting the area’s increasingly diverse populations whose heritage may be Chinese, Korean, middle-Eastern, Hispanic, and Asian Indian among many others. The theatre also serves the community through its own education outreach programs, including school performances, lecturedemonstrations and, in partnership with the Orange County Public Library, the bi-annual Adventures in Writing Short Story Contest for young authors. Irvine Barclay Theatre has been honored twice with Arts Orange County’s Outstanding Arts Organization, as well as with major grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, James Irvine Foundation, and William Randolph Hearst Foundation. Segerstrom Center for the Arts Presents EDDIE IZZARD: BELIEVE ME TOUR A Funny and Emotional Show Revealing the Man Behind the Stand-up Segerstrom Center for the Arts welcomes comedian Eddie Izzard in his new show Eddie Izzard: Believe Me Tour on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall. Produced by WestBeth Entertainment, this funny and emotional show reveals the man behind the stand-up with all of the fascination the ridiculous fans expect from an Eddie Izzard performance. Tickets for Eddie Izzard start at $39 and go on sale Sunday, December 17 at 10 a.m. and will be available online at SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. For inquiries about group ticket savings for 20 or more, please call the Group Services office at (714) 755-0236. Izzard’s first book, Believe Me, was just chosen by Bill Gates as one of the “5 Amazing Books I Read This Year.” Released on June 13, 2017, Believe Me is a New York Times Best Seller. Writing with the same candor and insight evident in his comedy, he reflects on a childhood marked by the loss of his mother, boarding school, and alternative sexuality, as well as a life in comedy, film, politics, running and philanthropy. Honest and generous, Izzard’s Believe Me is an inspired account of a very singular life thus far. Izzard can currently be seen costarring opposite Judi Dench as her son Bertie, the King-in-waiting in the critically acclaimed film, Victoria and Abdul. The film premiered at The Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2017 and opened to the public on September 22, 2017. Over the course of a thirty-year career, Eddie Izzard has proven himself to be a creative chameleon, inhabiting the stage and film and television screen with an unbelievable fervor. Born in Yemen and raised in Northern Ireland, Wales, and England, he lost his mother at the age of six, and that has affected the rest of his life. In his teens, he dropped out of university and took to the streets of London as part of a comedy double act. When his partner went on vacation, Izzard kept busy by inventing a one-man escape act, and thus a solo career was ignited. As a stand-up comedian, Izzard has captivated audiences with his surreal, stream-of-consciousness comedy lines such as “Cake or Death?” “Death Star Canteen,” and “Do You Have a Flag?” have the status of great rock lyrics. As a selfproclaimed “action transvestite,” Izzard broke a mold performing in

makeup and heels, and has become as famous for his “total clothing” rights as he has for his art. In Believe Me, he recounts the dizzying rise he made from the streets of London to West End theaters, to Wembley Arena, Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. Izzard is arguably one of today’s top comedians. He is touring his Force Majeure show—so far in more than forty countries worldwide and in four languages: English, French, German, and Spanish. With his brand of keenly intelligent humor that ranges from world history to historical politics, sexual politics, mad ancient kings, and chickens with guns, he has built an extraordinary fan base that transcends age, gender and race. For more information, visit EddieIzzard.com. WestBeth Entertainment has consistently delivered critically acclaimed, financially successful, groundbreaking productions for over 30 years. WestBeth’s ability to meld creative vision with financial and production savvy has created a unique company out of making artists’ and audience’s dreams come true. From Billy Connolly to Eddie Izzard, and The Jim Henson Company to John Leguizamo, WBE has been the creative catalyst, partner and producer of some of the most innovative performances and productions on the continent in venues throughout North America including Madison Square Garden, The Hollywood Bowl, Toronto’s Massey Hall, Chicago’s Chicago Theatre and even New York’s Radio City Musical Hall. With entertainment and audience enjoyment being a key element, WestBeth Entertainment’s most recent productions include: Eddie Izzard’s first US book tour for his memoir Believe Me, a New York Times Bestseller, North American debut of Australia’s comedy group Aunty Donna, Dylan Moran’s Off The Hook Airline; and Omaha Steaks International, Official Fine Food Retailer. Segerstrom Center for the Arts is an acclaimed arts institution as well as a beautiful multi-disciplinary cultural campus. It is committed to supporting artistic excellence, offering unsurpassed experiences and to engaging the entire community in new and exciting ways through the unique power of live performance and a diverse array of inspiring artsbased education and community engagement programs. Comedian Eddie Izzard Segerstrom Center is Orange County’s largest non-profit arts organization. In addition to its six performance venues, Segerstrom Center is also home to the American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School. Understanding consumers’ buying behaviors and decisions

T

FAMILY FEATURES

oday’s consumers don’t often follow a simple path of “search for what I want, find it, buy it.” They search at home, at work and on-the-go to find the products and services they need. New research from YP, the leading local marketing solutions provider and publisher of yp.com and The Real Yellow Pages®, reveals the factors that influence a consumer’s fragmented shopping patterns and their decision to make – or not make – a purchase. “Consumers today zigzag between devices, platforms and locations to discover products and services, and we wanted to find out why,” said Allison Checchi, chief marketing officer

Stand Out Online

Technology has revolutionized the consumer journey. Today, a huge portion of that journey takes place online. That means if a business doesn’t have an online presence, consumers won’t find it and will take their business elsewhere. A webcast series moderated by Jeff Biesman, vice president of customer acquisition and retention marketing at YP, will share findings from a new research study that explains why consumers make the purchase decisions they do and how small business owners can influence today’s consumers. Sessions include: Improving Your Online Presence – This session focuses on the importance of mobile-friendly websites, business profiles, video content and social media. Winning Customers with Search Engine Marketing – This session explores topics such as the role mobile devices play in the search process, the importance of delivering a personalized consumer experience and how social media factors into the equation. Building Your Brand with Mobile Ads – This session discusses strategies including location intelligence, audience segments, defining the goal of your ad and best practices. at YP. “Our goal was to get a deeper understanding of what influences consumers to make a decision to go with one business over another.”

Basics and Then Some

Consumers use nearly three sources of information, on average, during the search process, so it takes more than a simple business profile listing to truly stand out from the competition. It takes having a strong online presence and rich content. According to the study, consumers value two kinds of information when looking for businesses: primary information, such as price, location and availability of products and services; and secondary information, such as offers, testimonials, ratings, recommendations, photos or videos. While nearly 52 percent of consumers make their decisions based on primary information, about 48 percent make their buying decisions based on secondary information. Consumers who said their decision was based mostly on secondary factors spend an average of two times as much money as those using only primary information.

Accuracy Counts

Just as there are key factors consumers consider before making a purchase, there are factors that influence a

consumer’s decision to not consider a business. Consumers voiced their dissatisfaction loud and clear when it comes to businesses with an online presence that is inaccurate, inconsistent or incomplete. Not only did these shoppers say they would take their money elsewhere, they wouldn’t even consider the business, leaving no chance for the business owner to change the customer’s decision.

Reasons to Use Mobile

The majority of consumers (64 percent) are device hopping, with smartphones playing a role at some point in the search process. Aside from convenience and speed, some of the top reasons for using a mobile device are the ability to find a location “near me” and to “click-to-call” a business directly from the phone. “A strong digital presence is critical to connecting local businesses with consumers wherever they are, on whatever device they’re using,” Checchi said. “This research shows that consumers won’t even consider a business that has an inaccurate or incomplete online presence and that businesses are missing out on opportunities if they don’t have basic information and contextual content.” For more information about the factors that influence consumers’ buying decisions, visit whybeforethebuy.com and follow the conversation using #WhyTheBuy.

10 Ways You May be Deterring Customers Part of understanding what makes a consumer decide to make a purchase is understanding the opposite – what makes them turn away from one business and toward another? Although high prices top the reasons consumers won’t consider a business, YP’s “The Why Before the Buy” survey found there are a number of other factors that can deter them from considering a business. The common thread in nearly all the following factors: online presence. 1. High prices (62 percent of consumers)

6. No website (30 percent)

2. Negative ratings and reviews (55 percent)

7. No testimonials, ratings and reviews (27 percent)

3. Inconsistent information (37 percent)

8. Website is hard to navigate (26 percent)

4. Website has inaccurate information (37 percent)

9. Not familiar with the business (21 percent)

5. Wrong contact information listed online (32 percent)

10. No photos or videos of the business (17 percent)

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the

property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call, (800) 758-8052 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet Web site, www.homesearch.com, for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case, T.S.# 9948-2097. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse.
