Beloved family physician, and one of the primary co-founders of Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Dr. T.A. Ross actually began his popular practice on this same location in the early 1980’s. Along the way he became the good friend and mentor to Dr. Karl Gebhard, the current medical director of Ross Legacy Medical Group. Dr. Ross was renowned for his highly skilled, yet always affordable medical care that he practiced for decades, and for the many innovations he fostered and the respect and admiration he generated from both his medical colleagues and his devoted patients. His legacy was to inspire Dr. Karl Gebhard, himself a prominent family physician to continue this style of practice and to provide excellence in medical treatment by eliminating unnecessary procedures and paperwork to reduce costs. This remarkable method benefits both the patients and their insurance companies. “I like to make a visit to our office as pleasant as possible”, says Dr. Gebhard. “It’s bad enough to be in pain or discomfort without having to deal with long medical forms just to get relief”, he adds. “We like to say that Ross Legacy Medical Group takes the pain out of paperwork. Our office hires excellent medical management teams to get you in and out of the office with comfort, dignity, and no unnecessary delays.” One of the many ways that Ross Legacy Medical Group makes this possible if by offering more convenient evening, weekend, and holiday hours. “We are here for you every single day, three hundred and sixty-five days a year. “adds Dr. Gebhard. ” Not many family doctors can say that.” one of the benefits is that we are your family’s doctor every day of the week providing continuity of care because we can be your primary care physician and urgent care (but without the higher copays).

Look no further than your freezer for Dad’s perfect gift Bill Cosby once said, “Fatherhood is pretending the present you love the most is soap-on-a-rope.” As children all over the country prepare to honor their dads for Father’s Day or a special birthday, it might be time to say “no” to the soap and ties and give him what he really loves - a home-cooked meal. In a survey of more than 2,000 American adults, Harris Interactive asked men and women about the best gifts for their dads. While a new tablet or smartphone came in at No. 1, the second thing dads want most is a home-cooked meal. For most of us, tablets and smartphones might be out of reach, but a home-cooked meal is just what the budget ordered. And what home-cooked meal do dads love the most? According to a study (featured on the Today Show) that examined the intersection between food taste and gender, men tend to prefer salt-fat combinations (burgers, pizza, chips). When it comes to comfort food, men turn to steak or stews. Simply put - men like meat. So this year, when it’s time to honor your dad, consider hosting a family barbecue with all of Dad’s home-cooked favorites. Whether you choose mouth-watering steak burgers, bone-in ribeyes or fingerlicking good Kansas City barbecue, the options are almost endless for a home-cooked meal that Dad (and your friends and family) will love. If you don’t know where to start your menu planning, you can find

some great barbecue ideas online. Be sure to check out the recipe and cooking tips from The Kansas City Steak Company. Simply select your favorite category and you’ll receive helpful tips and tricks for a delectable meal with recipes created by talented chefs and home cooks across the country. With more than 600 recipes to choose from, you’re sure to find just the right meal to honor your dad. Ed Scavuzzo, president of The Kansas City Steak Company, says that summer is becoming one of the company’s busiest times of the year. “As life gets more complicated, more families are using special days like Father’s Day to reconnect. We provide everything you need to host the perfect outdoor barbecue - except the grill.” Once you’ve selected the perfect meal for your dad, don’t forget to check out these top 10 grilling tips to maximize flavors and minimize flare-ups. Whether your dad wants to navigate the grill himself - after all, it is his day - or he allows you to take over for the day, grilling your meat-of-choice to perfection is easy when you follow a few simple rules. There’s even a grilling app to give you on-the-spot tips and timing. So this year when it’s time to honor your dad, look no further than your computer, your creativity and your freezer for a gift he’ll treasure memories made together enjoying a home-cooked meal. -(BPT)

Do’s and don’ts of shopping for dads and grads Father’s Day and graduations are coming up, and that means you’ll have to think of appropriate gifts for these heralded champions. You don’t need to spend a fortune to make gift recipients happy, all you do need to do is put some thought into their presents. A few tips and tricks will help you pick out a gift the recipient is sure to love. Here are some do’s and don’ts for shopping for dads and grads: Do: * Know what Dad enjoys. Does he like to cook? To read? Enjoy a specific sports team? It’s easier to buy a gift he’ll enjoy when you tailor it to his tastes. * Consider giving your grad cash. Whether he or she is graduating from high school or college, there will be late-night pizza needs that pop up, and that money is sure to come in handy. * Check your area for unique experiences. Being a tourist in your hometown can be easier than you think - whether it’s a trip to a local street fair, a specialty beer tasting at nearby watering hole, or even an afternoon at the ball game, sometimes sharing the experience can be the best gift. * Spread your gift out through the whole year with a subscription to Netflix for Dad’s movie obsession, Hulu Plus for TV-lovers or Pandora for your grad with a music library that rivals Billboard’s Hot 100.- Almost all online streaming devices from TVs to Blu-ray players and even a sound bar from LG can give him access to his subscription. *Grads would love a place to plug in their music, and a docking station is perfect for everything from visiting

a friend’s dorm room to just lounging around the apartment. With the ability to wirelessly stream from both iPhones and Androids, LG’s dual docking station can play from any phone in the area and keep them charged in the meantime. Don’t: * Buy Dad a tie. Beyond being cliche, with today’s casual workplace, he probably has more than enough already. Nothing says “forced smile” like a tie. * Buy your grads gift card for specific stores. By now, they’ve got their own flair and style, and you’ll run the risk of missing the mark. Best to throw a cash card or two in the mix, and call it the “gift of shopping.” * Give your grad the customary graduation pen - it will be “lost” or act

as the resident paper weight until he/ she moves out. * Buy exercise equipment unless you know it will be used. Just because you think Dad should start exercising, doesn’t mean he shares your enthusiasm - and you’re implying he needs to lose weight (not what he wants to hear). * Skimp on technology. It changes quickly - that’s why stores have those clearance tables. No need to break the bank, but don’t buy something that’s outdated the moment you walk out of the store. Regardless of what you give a grad or Dad, she or he will appreciate it the most when your gift comes from your heart. -(BPT)

Coto De Caza Resident Patrick Villasenor Leads Boy Scout Troop in Book Drive for Marine Heroes!! By: Denise Villasenor Boy Scout Troop 818 in Rancho Santa Margarita recently completed a very successful Book Drive to benefit the Marines and their families at Camp Pendleton. Led by Senior Patrol Leader Patrick Villasenor, the Scouts collected books for 2 months as part of their “Troop Wide” Book Drive Service Project. This was the second Book Drive for Camp Pendleton that the Scouts had, with the first one being 2 years ago when 1,200 books were collected for the soldiers and their families. Patrick and his Troop again painstakingly counted every book they boxed over the 2 months they collected them. Their efforts paid off and they were happy to have far surpassed their last Book Drive with a whopping total of 2, 276 books collected! On Armed Forces Day, Saturday May 21, 2016 at 9:30am, 24 Scouts and their parents made the trek to Camp Pendleton and entered the gates where the real heroes live. They were expecting to meet with 8 Marines as arranged by their contact Mr. Scott Pile, Branch head of Personal and Professional Development for Camp Pendleton. Instead what awaited them were 20 Marines in uniform representing 2 units of Marines! One unit was from the Military Police “SWAT” type unit and they arrived with all the equipment used in emergency situations. The Marines gave of their precious free time on a Saturday to accept the books from the Scouts on behalf of Camp Pendleton and to personally meet with the Scouts and their parents. The Boy Scouts first had a flag ceremony upon arrival, saluting our great flag together with the Marines on this day meant to honor all the branches of the service. Scout Alec Melosini sang the National Anthem next, followed by Senior Patrol Leader Patrick Villasenor giving a speech on the origins of “Armed Forces Day” and it’s significance in honoring our military men and women who give such unselfish service to our country. Patrick Villasenor presented a binder full of “Thank you” letters written by the Scouts to the Marines, and gave them to the Staff Sergeant in charge to be shared with his fellow Marines. In Page 8

Patrick’s letter he wrote “It is because of your sacrifice that I am able to live the life of a normal teenager in the United States. You are truly a hero.” This and many other touching sentiments were written by the Scouts who addressed their letters of appreciation “To my protector”, “Dear Hero” and “Dear Soldier and fellow American”. Another unexpected surprise for the Scouts was to be presented with a “package” for each Scout by a Marine which comprised of a Camp Pendleton T-shirt, a commemorative medal and stickers. The Marines then answered questions posed by the Scouts on topics ranging from what MREs are like, how their Boot Camp experience was, and how many had been deployed and where. At least half of the Marines present had been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. They spoke with pride about why they joined the Marine Corps and how they wanted to be the best at what they did. They were well spoken and inspirational role models to the Troop 818 Scouts that were lucky enough to meet these great men. As one Marine expressed to the Scouts “Set your goals young and strive…anything is possible!” The final time spent with the Marines was with Scouts being able to don the military gear used by the Military Swat team and getting first hand knowledge of the equipment used to keep peoplesafe. The Scouts were able feel the confinement of the back seat of the Military police car, man the controls of the Police car siren and loud speaker which was a treat for all! Armed Forces Day 2016 was a very memorable experience that will be long remembered by Scouts and parents alike. As a result of the efforts of Troop 818 Boy Scouts, many Marines and their families will be given beautiful “like new” books from the Mainside Library where the books will be kept. It is a small token of appreciation for the sacrifices the Marines and their families face on a daily basis. As summed up by SPL Patrick Villasenor about the book drive service project, “It was an awesome experience that will benefit many of our heroes and their families. I’m glad we could help them in some small way.”

Tilly’s “Tillydega Nights” Charity Golf Classic Raises over $100,000 to Benefit Foundation to Empower Teens Photos by: Kelly Bennett & Michael Custodio Tilly’s Life Center (TLC) a youth-focused 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation held its 9th Annual Charity Golf Classic at the prestigious Dove Canyon Country Club where various sponsors, brands and executives from the action sports industry rallied together to raise funds for the foundation. Attendees golfed and then partied at the “Tillydega Nights” themed courtyard with scrumptious food, adult libations, silent and live auctions and entertainment. “We’re very grateful for the participation and support of our sponsors, brands, executives, volunteers and the turnout at this year’s charity golf classic. This is what it’s really about; the industry coming together to support the mission of Tilly’s Life Center to create lasting changes in the lives of young people” said co-founder of Tillys and founder of Tilly’s Life Center, Tilly Levine. The tournament started off in full gear with a putting contest by Odyssey and Tillys for a chance to win an Odyssey putter and 1 dozen Tillys Pro V1 golf balls, followed by a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. sending golfers out on an 18-hole course stacked with games, giveaways and contests such as a hole-in-one to win a BMW. Golfers enjoyed hole activations from Wahoo’s and Wienerschnitzel, Pabst Beer Company, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Layrite, SOCIAL, AsomBroso Tequila and live-art from James Haunt. Tillys 9th annual Golf Tournament gross and net winners included: Electric, Quiksilver/Roxy, Moss Adams, Raj Swim, Neff and LRG. After a day of golfing, guests strolled through the ultimate in food dinning with a myriad of choices around the grounds. Starting with passed hors d’oeuvres of Coconut Shrimp with Sweet Thai Chili Sauce, Fried Okra with Creole Remoulade, Cajun Sausage Bites, Fresh Baked Pretzel with Beer Cheese Sauce and Whole Grain Mustard attendees then were privy to buffet stations of BBQ Trip Tip Sliders served on a Sweet Hawaiian Roll, Kobe Beef Sliders with Blue Cheese & Onion Jam on a Brioche Bun, BBQ Shrimp Skewers with Spicy Remoulade, Crispy Twice Barbequed Chicken Legs, Chicken & Waffles with Maple Syrup & Powdered Sugar, Vegetarian Corn Succotash, Homemade Macaroni & Cheese, Vegetarian Baked Beans, and Peanut Coleslaw. Dessert was Cake Pops to go – so yes, everything was delish! The silent auction area was just as vast with everything from signed guitars by many famous music artists like James Taylor and Steven Tyler; there were a lot of clothing and jewelry available, with some things for the kids too but the wine – oh the Silver Oak that was up for grabs nearly stopped my heart! Live auction items that were up for grabs were just as exciting. Folks bidding waged a bidding war for items such as a trip for two to Cabo San Lucas Country Club donated by Katin that went for $1400; a four-night stay donated by Exclusive Resorts went for $4000; The North Face donated a Heli Ski Trip for two – the lucky winner picked it up for $2000; then there were accommodations for a five night, six day stay at the legendary Pipe House that was donated by Volcom that went for $7000. Key sponsors, brands, executives and athletes in attendance at this year’s golf tournament included: Ryan Sheckler, Volcom, Fox, LRG, Neff, Quiksilver, Vans, Billabong, Converse and many more. Tilly’s Life Center is a youth-focused, 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable foundation aimed at empowering all teens with a positive mindset and enabling them to effectively cope with crisis, adversity and tough decisions. TLC aims to empower teens to overcome their own adversity and crisis through positive thinking. Through tested methodologies from globally-respected thought leaders, TLC teaches effective life tools that enable teens the confidence and self-esteem they need to take responsibility for themselves – ultimately giving them the power to make positive changes in their own lives. Clearly a week for the young and talented show jumpers, Lauren Crooks took the win in the Interactive Mortgage Horses 10&U Futurity. FEI Course Designer Oscar Soberon set the 1.50m track for the thirty grand prix competitors. “I tried to focus more on the verticals rather than the oxers, which I think is playing it on the safe side. The distances are pretty straight forward. I’m not asking a lot of long or short distances. A little bit steady and too long but nothing too extreme. I hope that gives everyone a chance to do well.” When asked about building in this Del Mar location, Soberon went into detail about his plan. “I love this ring. I love the material. I tried to give a different look to all the fences. With the triple, I put brush under the inand-out but nothing in between. I’m using a lot of rails for number 13 and number 12 is super airy with panels on top, really challenging them. I alternated between super filled and super airy. I always put a big wall, a liverpool, a skinny, planks on top and triple bars, so every part of the course should be a challenge.” Marc Grock was first in and first clean on Moonlite Beach, LLC’s Little Gancho. That feat could not be matched for another twenty rides, when Nassar went clean on Lordan. Three more fabulous horse and rider combinations also joined

Make sure that these readers are aware of your company and what you do by keeping a regular, affordable advertising message in the newspaper that all of them read every week 2. Celebrate Dad with Grilling and Golf This year for Father’s Day, skip the tacky tie and 6 tablespoons diced red onion give dad something he truly wants – quality time 3 garlic cloves, minced with the kids who gave him such an honorable 3 tablespoons lemon juice title. Plan an intimate family gathering with all his 1 tablespoon olive oil favorite foods and a few special touches that reflect 1/4 teaspoon ground thyme his other passions in life, such as golf. Pepper to taste Let dad savor some grilled goodness (and a 1 pound boned, lean pork chop, cut into healthy dose of antioxidants) with colorful fruit and 1-inch cubes (approximately 38-40 pieces) veggie kabobs. Healthy, hydrating watermelon is 32 cubes watermelon (1 inch each), plus extra the star ingredient of these colorful skewers, which for garnish if desired also include marinated chunks of pork. 16-24 zucchini rounds (1/2 inch) Add a low-calorie, fat-free side by serving 16 pineapple chunks, fresh or watermelon balls in a fun golf ball-shaped vessel canned (1 inch each) carved from a watermelon rind. 24 yellow or orange peppers For more recipes and carving ideas using chunks (1 inch each, approximately versatile watermelon, visit www.watermelon.org. 3-4 peppers total) Pork and Watermelon Kabobs Cooking spray Servings: 8 Sesame seeds for garnish 6 tablespoons brown sugar Combine sugar, soy sauce, onion, garlic, lemon 6 tablespoons soy sauce juice, olive oil, thyme and pepper in mixing bowl. Pour into resealable bag and add pork pieces. Seal bag, mix thoroughly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, turning bag periodically. Remove pork from bag and reserve marinade. Thread 5 pork pieces, 4 watermelon cubes, 2-3 zucchini rounds, 2 pineapple chunks and 3 peppers on each of 8 skewers, alternating the order. Spray cooking surface on heated grill and place kebobs on grill. Grill for 12-15 minutes, or until done, turning and basting frequently with reserved marinade. Garnish with sesame seeds and chunks of watermelon. Golf Ball Serving Bowl Wash watermelon under cool running water and pat dry. On cutting board, place watermelon on side and cut off 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch from stem end, being careful not to cut too deep into white part of rind.

This will provide sturdy base. Using paring knife, cut a 3- to 4-inch round circle in top of watermelon. Use melon baller to make shallow round divots into rind of watermelon to mimic dimples in golf ball. Next, use kitchen knife to peel thin layers of rind off to expose white underneath, being careful not to cut too deep or red flesh will be exposed. Try to get as much of green rind off so it will resemble a white golf ball. Hollow out watermelon with spoon or scoop. Place on tray and add watermelon balls to serve.

Since 1938 she had the help of the Father’s Day Council, founded by the New York Associated Men’s Wear Retailers to consolidate and systematize the commercial promotion A bill to accord national recognition of the holiday was introduced in Congress in 1913. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson went to Spokane to speak in a Father’s Day celebration and wanted to make it official, but Congress resisted, fearing that it would become commercialized. US President Calvin Coolidge recommended in 1924 that the day be observed by the nation, but stopped short of issuing a national proclamation. Two earlier attempts to formally recognize the holiday had been defeated by Congress. In 1957, Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith wrote a proposal accusing Congress of ignoring fathers for 40 years while honoring mothers, thus “[singling] out just one of our two parents”. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972.

Eyelid Surgery ~ Understanding Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery

Understanding Blepharoplasty Every year, hundreds of thousands of men and women choose blepharoplasty to improve the way they look. Droopy eyelids can make you look older and can also impair vision. Blepharoplasty corrects these problems and also removes puffiness and bags under the eyes that make you look worn and tired. This procedure cannot alter dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nor can it change sagging eyebrows. Though blepharoplasty is often performed as a single procedure, your surgeon may also recommend a browlift, facelift, or skin resurfacing to achieve the best results. “My droopy eyelids were driving me crazy. I had always had very fleshy eyelids, and as I got older, they began to sag badly. Putting on makeup was difficult. My eyelids felt funny, too, like they were in my way. Without realizing it, I started keeping my brow muscles tensed upward all the time. I was shocked when I saw that I had developed permanent creases in my forehead from doing that.” — agnesw. , age 58

Understanding the Surgery

In upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon first marks the individual lines and creases of the lids in order to keep the scars as invisible as possible along these natural folds. The incision is made, and excess fat is removed or repositioned, and then the loose muscle and skin are removed. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar. In lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes the incision in an inconspicuous site along the lashline and smile creases of the lower lid. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are then trimmed away before the incision is closed with fine sutures. Eyelid puffiness caused primarily by excess fat may be corrected by a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The incision in this case is made inside the lower eyelid, and excess fatty material is removed. When sutures are used to close this kind of incision, they are invisible to the eye. They are also commonly self-dissolving and leave no visible scar. Under normal conditions, blepharoplasty can take from one to two hours. A more refreshed look is often the result when eye bags are improved with blepharoplasty.

What to Expect After the Surgery

Immediately after the surgery has been completed, your surgeon may apply tiny sterile bandages. This is not done for transconjunctival blepharoplasty. It is not crucial that the eyes be covered. However, an ointment to prevent dryness of the eye area may be used. A certain degree of swelling and bruising is normal. Cold compresses, as well as head elevation when lying down, will enhance healing and relieve discomfort. Your surgeon will prescribe medication for discomfort. For a week and a half following blepharoplasty, you will clean the eye area (the eyes may feel sticky, dry, and itchy). Eyedrops may be recommended. Your surgeon will also list activities and environments to avoid in the weeks immediately following surgery. Permanent stitches will be removed in three to five days after surgery. Self-absorbing stitches will dissolve on their own. The risks of blepharoplasty are fairly minimal but include poor healing, persistent fat or loose skin and muscle, dry eyes, and very rarely, visual changes or loss. Facial plastic surgery makes it possible to correct many facial flaws and signs of premature aging that can undermine self-confidence. By changing how you look, facial plastic surgery can help change how you feel about yourself. Insurance does not generally cover surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons. Surgery to correct or improve vision or surgery for eye deformity or injury may be reimbursable in whole or in part. It is the patient’s responsibility to check with the insurance carrier for information on the degree of coverage. In a blepharoplasty, the eyelids heal remarkably quickly and scars are usually quite inconspicuous. Insurance does not generally cover surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons.
