4 Traits to Look for When Choosing Your Wedding Photographer Planning a wedding is no small task. In order to enjoy the process (and stay sane), it’s important to recognize early on which details can be decided quickly, and which ones deserve more time and care. When it comes to wedding photos, you can’t go wrong with a little extra time and thought, because there’s no such thing as a do-over. Choosing the right person for the job makes all the difference in getting that collection of photos you’ll treasure forever. When your special day rolls around, a professional photographer will have the skill and artistry in capturing those beautiful candid moments as well as the more formal portraits. Here are some traits to look for during your search that signal you’re in good hands. 1. A portfolio you love. Your venue may have a list of “preferred professionals” to choose from, but don’t feel obligated to stick with their list. Feel free to explore your options, and browse local guides and websites for the ones that have strong portfolios that speak to you. As you look, pay attention to mood, style
and facial expressions. Skilled and experienced photographers should have a strong and varied wedding day collection. 2. They help you think through the day. A good listener who takes a genuine interest in your plans - and makes sure you feel elated with their work - is always a good sign. Things like venue, lighting, time of day, the number of people you want to capture, number of settings and the itinerary are just a few factors they need to consider to plan and organize the shoot. If you’re not sure about something, ask their opinion. A professional will give you an honest assessment along with lots of suggestions so you enjoy your special day and capture those priceless images. 3. Something just clicks. And it’s not just the shutter. Bad puns aside, keep in mind you’re going to be spending the day with your photographer. In fact, you could very well be spending more time with the photographer than anyone else - even with your beloved. Don’t skip the in-person, face-to-face meeting when planning
your special day. You want to be sure this is someone who makes you both feel open and relaxed, so trust your gut feeling. 4. They’re the complete package. A professional will complete the time-consuming (and sometimes overwhelming) task of sorting through hundreds of shots for you and put their skills to work in editing the images. What you should get is a collection of hand-picked images, all perfectly edited, cropped and toned,
so they capture the best moments and emotions of the day. The one bearing the camera has a great responsibility: They are recording the first pages of history for your new family. To make sure you find the one that has the experience and the flair the day calls for, a professional photographer is always the right call. Ringwald Orange County friends and families looking for a fun and educational place to visit and take children this summer, may consider a visit to the California Museum of Science to experience amazing ‘King Tut’ art and artifacts from Egypt. The exhibit of extraordinary original works visits the museum in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park for the entire summer and fall of this year, then travels to Europe in a 10 cities worldwide tour over the next seven years. Irvine Family Heir Weds Susan Jeske, Ms. America 1997 By Kelly Bennett Society Scene Editor Susan R. Jeske and James M. Irvine were married Saturday, June 2nd at five thirty in the afternoon at the Irvine Ranch Historic Park, part of the OC Parks, in Irvine, California. Officiating the ceremony was Eric Rees, CEO of the Jessie Reese Foundation. The bride is the daughter of the late Charles and Denise Jeske of Littleton, Colorado. She was crowned the first Ms. America in 1997 and is the current owner and CEO of the Ms. America Pageant. The groom is the youngest grandson to the late James Irvine II who inherited about 115,000 acres in what is now Orange County, California and formed The Irvine Company and the James Irvine Foundation. He is the son of the late Myford and Gloria Irvine. Myford Irvine was the President of The Irvine Company for eleven years and the President of the James Irvine Foundation for 24 years beginning when it was established in 1937 until his death in 1959. The wedding was held at the Irvine Ranch Historic Park, which is where the original Irvine family home was and is now the Katie Wheeler Library (named after James’s Aunt). James was born and raised in the home as a young boy. The gazebo and gardens where James played as a boy were transformed into a fairyland of roses for the ceremony. Pews were brought in from a 100-year-old church in honor of Susan’s Catholic upbringing. The best man was James’ son, Jeremy Irvine and the groomsmen were Bill White, James’s older brother and Susan’s brothers Tim and Mark Jeske. The Maid of Honor was Megan Augustin, Susan’s niece from Colorado. Bridesmaids were Susan’s sister Cathy Jeske, James’s niece Tracy Gaede and Jory Irvine, James’ daughter. They were dressed in a burgundy suit and full-length dresses carrying pastel pink, yellow and white rose bouquets. Bridal Attendants were Stephanie Mills, Melissa Jeske, Kimberly Latimore, Debbie Garrett, Lea Petersen, Quinn Fry and Kelly Bennett. They were dressed in marine colored full-length dresses carrying pastel pink, yellow and white rose bouquets. Leading
the Bridal Attendants was Stephanie Mills, Ms. America 2015 carrying a stunning custom hand-made brooch bouquet by Jo Anne of Glam Bouquet. The bouquet was filled with over 1500 silver brooches, smaller crystal and rhinestones accent pieces, many that were personal gifts given to Susan from close friends, family and state, regional and national pageant titleholders. The wedding started with a procession beginning at the entrance to the Irvine Family home with the Boy Scouts from Troop #36 carrying American and Canadian flags in honor of the bride and groom’s heritage. The original troop which included James’ older brother Bill, was founded by James’ father, Myford in 1952. Myford Irvine donated and prepared 3000 acres of the Irvine Ranch as the site for the 1953 National Boy Scout Jamboree that hosted over 50,000 troops from all over the world. Myford received the coveted Silver Beaver Award and the Silver Antelope Awards. Following the Boy Scout procession the Groom, Best Man, Groomsmen, Bridal Attendants, Bridesmaids and Maid of Honor proceeded down the Irvine family driveway and down the aisle up to the flower fairyland garden and gazebo. Trumpeters announced the bride as she arrived in a horse drawn carriage which added romance and beauty to this fairytale wedding. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her brother Mike Jeske. She wore a custom made Victorian wedding gown designed by world famous designer Stephen Yearick. It took two years to make of which 180 days (6 months) was used for embroidery, stitching and artwork. More than 10,000 hand-beaded additions were sewn into the couture gown including sequins, pearls and 10 types of multifaceted Austrian Crystals. Swarovski Crystals were used in the bodice and on the sleeves of the gown. Over 100 yards of eleven types of sophisticated fabrics were used and the gown weighed 35 pounds. Fifty people were involved in the creation of the gown which included Stephen Yearick, Leigh Price and Mon Amie’s owner Laurel Mungo. Susan wore the Irvine Rose Garden Tiara which was a gift from James. It

Susan R. Jeske and James M. Irvine Photo by HPW was a custom made Victorian rose and garland tiara that had over 200 crystals mounted in silver and platinum representing the Rose Garden of the Irvine Family estate in which they were married. After the couple were pronounced husband and wife, guests were invited to an outdoor area that was reminiscent of the Victorian era with Queen Anne couches, chairs and antique furniture. Guests enjoyed passed appetizers and a bar complete with flutes of Chandon California Blanc De Noirs and wines that contained grapes from Star Vineyard in Rutherford, Napa California in which Mr. Irvine once owned an interest.
The blacksmith played a key role in the Irvine Family Ranch dating back to the 18th Century. Guests were treated to an authentic reenactment and received a hand forged artist heart piece during the cocktail hour. Guests also enjoyed taking pictures with the original Irvine Family buggy with the surrey on top. The reception was held under a magical one of a kind Victorian wedding tent that was created just for the historic Irvine Wedding. It had 300 feet of hand stamped 18 Karat Gold Victorian trim, with over 150 four-inch flower appliques and 300 gold tassels hand sewn around the border breathing life and authenticity to the setting.

Commemorative gifts in honor of Susan and James’s wedding were placed at each guest setting. He named his daughter Katherine Helena Irvine after her. A ticket to tour her home was included as well as a ticket to tour the Irvine Historical Museum was given to each guest. After the couple made their grand entrance to the sound of trumpets, Page 10
they danced their first dance to the song “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. The dinner menu was a tribute to the success of the Irvine Ranch which was the largest agricultural enterprises in the United States and according to an article in the 1910 Los Angeles Times, “one of the greatest cultivated farms in the world.” Some of the items were selected because they were once grown or raised on the Irvine Ranch. Guests enjoyed a cold beet and mixed green salad, slow roasted tri-tip, Cornell style grilled chicken thighs with roasted asparagus, potato salad and Irvine Ranch Baked Beans. After dinner, everyone enjoyed the handmade cake that stood 50 inches tall and weighed over 150 pounds. Lovingly wrapped in white frosting that had handmade 30 fondant bows and sugar flowers the cake was accented with Swarovski Crystals and edible 18 Karat Gold. The fifth layer of the cake had insignias of Susan and James initials representing their union

Fa ct s Ab o u t t h e F o u r t h o f J u ly: Am e r i c a’ s I n d e p e n d e n c e Day By Jennifer Phillips The 4th of July marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the men who are responsible for the start of the United States of America. In 1776, on July 2nd, the Continental Congress met to discuss independence. There was much political unrest at the time, with the thirteen colonies chafing under the rule of a King who was an entire ocean away. There were feelings of resentment over the lack of representation in England, for the Colonies. In short, the citizens of the original Colonies were unhappy, and the Continental Congress felt it was time to take the next step forward, towards independence, and self-rule. Two days after this meeting, on July 4th, these men signed a document, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, declaring the intentions of the Colonies to be free from the rule of the kingdom of Great Britain. What followed was a long, bitter war lasting roughly eight years. It eventually involved not only England and the United States, but also France, Spain and the Dutch Republic. The war ended in 1783, and the United States were finally free to
govern themselves, but the date most celebrated is the date that began it all; the Fourth of July. While the 4th of July has only been an official paid holiday for federal employees since 1941, it has been celebrated thoroughly since the very start. Today the 4th of July is celebrated in the United States with parades, fireworks, picnics and extravagant displays of patriotism. It has been that way for a long time, too. The list below illustrates some of the ways that this holiday has been celebrated in the past. * 1777- Thirteen gunshots were fired (once in the morning, and again in the evening) on July 4th in Rhode Island. Philadelphia held an official dinner, complete with toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches, songs, parades and, yes, fireworks. * 1778- George Washington’s soldiers received a double ration of rum and an artillery salute. John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, acting as ambassadors to France, held a celebration dinner for their fellow Americans. * 1779- July 4th fell on a holiday, and was celebrated on Monday instead.
* 1781- Massachusetts was the first state to recognize July 4th as an official state holiday. * 1791- The first use recorded use of the name “Independence Day” is found in this year. * 1941- The 4th of July is declared a paid holiday for federal employees. The traditions of the 4th of July celebrations run deep. It inspires in many American citizens feelings of patriotism, and pride in their country. It’s also a holiday for fun and family. Some of the long-standing celebrations in the United States include: * Since 1785, Bristol, Rhode Island’s Fourth of July Parade has occurred annually. This makes it the oldest continuous Independence day celebration in the United States. * Since 1916, Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest has been held at Coney Island every 4th of July. The contest supposedly started as a way to settle an argument between four immigrants, over who was the most patriotic. * During the last week of June, since 1959, Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario hold a mutual celebration of both Independence Day and Canada Day. The celebration
ends with a large fireworks display over the Detroit River. Clearly, Americans hold a special place in their hearts for this holiday, even this many years later. Many wars have been fought, and many lives lost, in the name of freedom and independence. Even in times of political unrest and economic struggle, Americans can, on this day, look back at their long, rich history of freedom and independence, and feel a sense of gratitude to, and pride in, their forefathers, and the men who followed in their footsteps.
Put More You into Your Wedding Day A wedding day is filled with symbolic tradition, from varied religious customs to the never-ending circle reflected in the rings and the types of flowers accentuating the celebration. Even with all the traditional rituals to consider, nearly every bride and groom can find ways to give their special day some unique touches that reflect their personality and love. Music sets the mood for every wedding, and it’s an easy place to put your own spin on the celebration. Whether you forgo the traditional bridal march entirely or simply look for an arrangement that gives an updated twist to the classic version, let guests know this isn’t your average wedding by setting the festivities against a soundtrack that lets your true character shine. The wedding party is intended to be a collection of those nearest and dearest to the bride and groom, who help ensure the day goes off without a hitch and who lead fellow revelers in celebrating the start of the new couple’s life together. That being said, there’s no reason this group must be limited to women on her side and guys on his, or even that it’s limited to humans – a beloved pooch can make for an adorable ring-bearer, after all. Photography is an essential element Page 16
of your big day, but think beyond the images you’ll capture throughout the wedding and reception. Photos lend a personal touch, no matter what your color scheme or theme. Integrate photos of the two of you at various stages of life, together as a couple and with loved ones (perhaps even some you’re honoring in memoriam). You can display these at a table with the guest book, as part of the table centerpieces, or even on the gift table. Or take things digital and load all your images into a slide show set to music. Make favors meaningful. Forgo more common items like bubbles and chocolate, and instead send a little of yourself home with your guests. Maybe it’s a memento from a place with special meaning to you both, or a bottle opener shaped like a bicycle to represent the way you met. Just think about the moments and things that define you as a couple and do some searching online. You’ll probably be surprised by how quickly the options pile up. Serve up a menu that shows guests more about your life together. Your loved ones can order basic beef or chicken anywhere. Instead, give them a glimpse into you. Make your main course the same food you
The Coto de Caza News
enjoyed on your first date or during another monumental moment in your courtship. Or plan the entire menu around a region that you hold close to your heart. Weddings are filled with traditions, but that doesn’t mean you can’t put
your own touches on the day for a special event filled with memories that are uniquely your own. Find more advice for life’s special moments at elivingtoday.com. Photo courtesy of Getty Images

Wedding Planning 101 First comes the proposal then comes the wedding planning. There are dozens of decisions that need to be made before it’s time to walk down the aisle, which can be overwhelming for brides and grooms. To help make it less stressful, these tips from Macy’s can help couples through the entire wedding-planning process, from on-trend apparel and accessories for the entire wedding party to all the essentials to create a perfect registry. Dressing the Ladies When it comes to bridesmaid dresses, the mix-and-match approach is trending in popularity. Start by deciding on a color palette, such as lilac, champagne and petal pink. Then have each bridesmaid choose her favorite style within that range of hues. Bring it all together by choosing a uniform look for makeup, shoes and accessories. There is no better time to thank the ladies than the morning of the big day. A few thoughtful gifts can go a long way, such as matching robes, tumblers to stay hydrated throughout the day and cosmetic cases to stow makeup essentials. Dressing the Gents Similar to bridesmaid dresses, groomsmen attire can be dependent on the venue and overall event aesthetic. While a suit can fit the bill for a country club wedding, a city
affair may call for the sleek finishes of a tux. Tuxedo accessories, such as cuff links or bow ties, make great groomsmen gifts and are classic pieces they can use time and time again. Creating the Perfect Registry When building a registry, it’s never too early to start. People want to give gifts as soon as they know a
couple is engaged. Start by taking inventory of what you already have, what you need and what you want to upgrade. It’s also recommended to update the registry regularly so there are enough gifts to choose from, especially if there is an engagement party and bridal shower coming up. To get started, some popular registry items include stand mixers, craft beer
glasses, Dutch ovens, bath towels and vacuums. For extra guidance, couples can speak to advisors who can help with the full registry building process at Macy’s stores. Have a Flag-Waving Fourth of July! I’m bringing a fantastic flag cake to this year’s party - it serves a lot of people and it’s easy to make. I’ll let you in on two little secrets that make this cake taste extra good: instant potato flakes keep the cake tender and moist, while mini chocolate chips give you little bursts of chocolate with every bite. The colorful fruit on top not only adds great flavor, but it turns this cake into a showstopper that has guests “oohing” and “ahhing” in delight! If you’re going to a potluck party this year, I have some tips for being a good guest: * Keep it safe: It’s tricky to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold, so make sure the food you’re bringing will be safe at room temperature. For example, on a hot summer day, vinegar-based salad dressings are a better choice than mayonnaise-based ones. * Keep it simple: Bring dishes that are ready to serve. Asking to pop something into the host’s oven for “just a few minutes” is inconvenient for the host and the guests waiting to eat. * Keep it practical: Label your dish so that guests know what they’re getting. It’s also a big help if you bring your own serving utensils - the host won’t be forced to hunt for something and the line won’t get held up waiting.
* Keep it yours: If you need to take your serving dish home, be sure to label it. A bit of masking tape with your name on it can be discreetly placed on the dish so it doesn’t get mixed up with someone else’s. For more Independence Day recipe ideas to help you celebrate, visit www. verybestbaking.com.

Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with milk. Stir in morsels. Spoon into prepared baking pan. BAKE for 45 to 55 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 15 minutes.

Marrying households: 7 savvy moving tips for newlyweds If you’re planning a wedding or you’ve just tied the knot, congratulations! Getting ready to start the next chapter of your life with the one you love can be an exciting time, filled with anticipation about your future together. That said, combining two households can take considerable planning and preparation, especially if both parties own troves of treasured possessions. As you are getting ready to make the transition into a single house or apartment, consider how the following suggestions may make your move easier. * Pare down possessions. After unwrapping your wedding gifts, take an objective look at your collective furniture, household goods, clothing and other items. Where do you see duplicates? Whose décor are you more likely to use? Are those old clothes you’ve had since high school really worth keeping? Now is the time to be generous in donating unneeded items to a local charity (or selling them on Craigslist). * Nix the shopping blitz. Although those wedding checks and gift cards are burning a hole in your pocket,
postpone your purchases until after you move so you don’t end up needlessly hauling them to your next locale. * DIY on the moving. Rather than shelling out a small fortune hiring a moving company, simply rent a truck that you can drive without a commercial license. As a rule of thumb, seek 150 cubic feet of space for the furnishings of each room in your present house; that means a 12- or 16-foot Penske rental truck should accommodate the contents of a small apartment or condo. Remember to reserve your truck at least two weeks ahead, and ask for the discounts provided to AAA members and military personnel. * Invest in packing supplies. This is not the time to skimp by using flimsy containers, newspapers and cheap tape to pack up your treasured belongings. Save yourself time and frustration later by picking up sturdy boxes, labels, tape and bubble wrap from your truck rental store so you can ensure everything arrives at its destination safe, unbroken and easy to unpack. * Party on. Inviting friends and
family to help you with your move can be a win-win for all; many hands make light work when it comes to loading and unloading your truck, and you can offer incentives by springing for pizza and beverages at your new home afterward. * Learn how to load. Apply logistical strategy to filling up your moving truck, perhaps by following the guidelines offered by Penske’s Truck Wizard. In general, heavier items should go in the back of the truck, with lighter items in front and on top.
* Practice makes perfect. Driving a moving truck isn’t difficult, but it’s definitely different from driving a car or pick-up. Take time to familiarize yourself with those differences; for example, you must use your mirrors to navigate turns, you should avoid sudden stops or lane changes and give yourself extra time. Need more information about the advantages of renting your own moving truck? Check out PenskeTruckRental.com for details. - (BPT)
Find fun, fresh ways to use your cherished china Sometimes collecting all the pieces to your cherished wedding china may take more time than you think. It took Jill Rogers four decades. “After 44 years of marriage, I got the soup bowls I wanted; Mama would be so proud to know I finally have exactly what she wanted for me,” says Rogers. “My mother started this pattern for me in high school, buying pieces from the area grocery store. The fact she started it was so sweet and special.” Over the years, Rogers actually forgot the name of her pattern. That’s when she turned to dinnerware giant, Replacements, Ltd. The company’s research team not only
identified Rogers’ vintage pattern through Replacements’ free pattern identification service, they even had the pieces she needed to complete her set. “I collected pieces here and there through the years but never had more than six place settings,” adds Rogers. “We use it for special family occasions, such as birthdays and anniversaries, and sometimes we take our special china out just for us.” Replacements’ designer, Julie Robbins, hears similar stories from baby boomers like Rogers, who after years of collecting, finally completed their patterns. However, as families mature and styles evolve, boomers are increasingly asking Robbins for fun ways to refresh their treasured patterns. “They love their wedding china and are attached to it because it means so much to them, but they want to freshen it up and give their dinnerware a more current look and feel,” says Robbins. “It’s really easy to stay true to tradition, yet transform your table by adding a splash of color or different medium. Mixing and matching patterns continues to be a huge trend in tabletop, transcending all ages, from millennials to boomers.” So, how do you go about creating a look that makes you want to take your vintage china out of storage and
use it every day? Start by looking for complementing patterns that fit your lifestyle. “You might start with a piece that you use on a regular basis, such as a salad plate, then build around that piece by adding patterns that pull out a color, shape or feeling that accentuates the current pattern you already own,” adds Robbins. And who says your dinnerware is just for eating? Find fun ways to use it around your home. “Think outside the dining room,” says Robbins. “I inherited a set that I love but didn’t fit my entertaining style, so I took the tea cups and now use them for notions in my sewing
room. You could also use cups to hold doodads in any room of your house, while tureens and teapots make wonderful flower vases. I find bathrooms and powder rooms are great places to use old china because those rooms are often under-decorated and very antiseptic. Using old, pretty serving pieces, such as an oval vegetable or sugar bowl to hold soap or flowers, helps make those rooms warmer and more inviting.” Looking for more ideas or would like help with design dilemmas? Simply contact the company’s creative team through Replacements’ Facebook page. - (BPT)

Be prepared: Red Cross urges blood and platelet donation Because emergency situations are unpredictable, the American Red Cross needs regular donations to help ensure that blood products are available for patients at a moment’s notice. You can help ensure a sufficient supply for accident victims and others with serious medical conditions. This May, the American Red Cross is calling for donors to give blood and platelets regularly to be prepared to meet the needs of patients in emergency situations. According to the National Trauma Institute, trauma accounts for approximately 41 million emergency department visits and 2 million hospital admissions each year. In March 2015, Kevin Frame suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision during spring break. He received blood products to treat internal injuries immediately after the accident and during multiple surgeries while recovering. “Without the blood and plasma products made available from donations, I would not be alive today to continue my rehabilitation journey,” said Frame, who had to relearn to swallow, speak and walk after the accident. Regular blood, platelet and plasma donations help ensure that blood is Page 24
available at a moment’s notice. In fact, it is the blood on the shelves that is used to help save lives at the time of an accident or sudden illness. In trauma situations, when there’s no time to check a patient’s blood type, emergency personnel reach for type O negative red blood cells and type AB plasma because they can be transfused to any patient, regardless of blood type. Less than 7 percent of the population has type O negative blood, and only about 4 percent of the population has type AB blood. Platelets may also be needed to help with clotting in cases of massive bleeding. Because platelets must be transfused within five days of donation, there is a constant – often critical – need to keep up with hospital demand. Donors of all blood types are urged to roll up a sleeve this May to help meet the needs of trauma patients and others with serious medical conditions. Make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). How to donate blood Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to

make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at checkin. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their predonation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/ RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App. Volunteers needed Another way to support the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross is to become a volunteer transportation specialist and deliver lifesaving blood products to local area hospitals. Volunteer transportation specialists play a very important role in ensuring an ample blood supply for patients in need by transporting
blood and blood products. For more information and to apply for a volunteer transportation specialist position, visit rdcrss.org/driver. About the American Red Cross The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. Respecting the stars and stripes: American flag etiquette
Summers are packed with outdoor activities, barbecues and patriotic celebrations. While the American flag is often an important part of these celebrations, many of us have questions about how to properly care for and display it. “Flag etiquette can be confusing,” says Mary “Dubbie” Buckler, executive director and national secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary. “Many Americans want to show patriotism, but do not know the standards of respect and traditions associated with flag flying.” The American Legion Auxiliary, the world’s largest women’s patriotic organization, helps to advance the mission of The American Legion, the nation’s largest veteran’s service organization, to provide service to veterans, military and their families. The American Legion has played an important role in establishing the standards of flag etiquette since before the passing of the first national codes in 1923, and has worked diligently to uphold these historical standards. Today, much of flag etiquette can be found in the Flag Code, official national rules regarding the American flag. “The American flag is meant to be enjoyed and celebrated,” Buckler says. “The American Legion Auxiliary is passionate about educating the public so they can do so with proper respect for the freedom and sacrifices it represents.”
Buckler shares the following guidelines for using, displaying and caring for the American flag. Hoisting and lowering of the flag * The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously. * The flag of the United States of America is saluted, or acknowledged by placing a hand over your heart, as it is hoisted and lowered. * When lowered, the flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water or merchandise. Manner of displaying the flag * The Flag Code states it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. * When a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. * The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed. * The flag should be displayed vertically, whether indoors or out, and suspended so that its folds fall free as though the flag were staffed. * When displayed in a window of a home or a place of business, the flag should be displayed in the same way; that is, with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street. Storing and disposing of the flag * The Flag Code does not require
any specific method of storage, however, over time it has become tradition to fold the flag into a triangular shape like that of a three-corner hat, with only the blue union showing. * When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. The American Legion frequently conducts flag retirement ceremonies, often on Flag Day, June 14. Flag etiquette was established to honor and pay tribute to our nation and its history. As such, certain uses of the American flag are considered disrespectful. The flag should never be: * Displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
* Used as a drapery or for any other decoration. * Carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free. * Used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying or delivering anything. * The flag should never be used as apparel, bedding or drapery. * Festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Standing tall as an emblem of justice, perseverance, valor and honor, the American flag is an intricate part of what makes citizens proud to be American. As summer rays shine again and the flag takes its spotlight, it is important to educate yourself and others to show respect for the deep history and sacrifices this national symbol represents.

The Symphony made its first-ever tour to China this year, with performances in five cities, including Shanghai and Beijing. In Orange County, the orchestra presents more than 100 concerts and events each year and a rich array of education and community engagement programs, reaching more than 300,000 residents of all ages. The Symphony has been recognized with multiple ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming and included among the country’s five most innovative orchestras by the League of American Orchestras. The Symphony’s education and community engagement activities have also been recognized by the League, as well as the National Endowment for the Arts. 5 essential planning tips to make your outdoor wedding perfect

CITY OF RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA NOTICE OF CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE is hereby given that on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. (or as soon thereafter as possible) the City Council of the City of Rancho Santa Margarita will conduct a public hearing to consider the following:
There’s so much to love about an outdoor wedding. Whether it’s set on the beach, at a winery or even in the backyard of a family member, pledging your eternal commitment to your partner in beautiful natural surroundings makes the day extra memorable. If you’re thinking of holding the big day in the great outdoors, you’re in good company. Over the past decade, outdoor ceremonies are on the rise: 52 percent of couples tied the knot in an outdoor ceremony in 2017, compared to 29 percent in 2009, according to the TheKnot.com’s 2017 Real Weddings Study. Couples are also shying away from churches, hotels and banquet halls as settings for the ceremony receptions and opting instead for less conventional sites, such as rooftop event spaces, historic homes, wineries and parks. Unlike the traditional venues, an outdoor ceremony and reception has its own set of considerations when it comes to planning. These practical tips will get you started in building the outdoor wedding of your dreams. * Sketch out the itinerary early: Before you sign the contract with your chosen venue, discuss in detail your vision with the coordinator, and before you leave, be perfectly clear on what’s permissible and what’s offlimits. If you’re envisioning dancing the night away under the stars, you don’t want to find out three weeks before the big day that the venue has restrictions on equipment and noise. Before you sign any contract, have your itinerary ready and discuss it from start to finish. * Plan your equipment needs: One thing to know about holding a wedding in a less conventional spot is venues can vary wildly on what they can provide for you in terms of supplies and equipment. Take time to walk through the entire event so you’re clear on what you may need to supply yourself. Even if a venue lacks essentials like power outlets and bathroom stalls, don’t give up. There are affordable solutions out there to help you upgrade the space to a fully
functional venue. Your local rental store, for example, is an essential stop for anyone planning a wedding. In addition to all the wedding gear you could need, from decorations to seating, they also have lots of other equipment and ideas to help you plan the perfect outdoor event. * Always have a Plan B: It’s impossible to predict what the weather will bring for an outdoor wedding, which can add uncertainty. But you can reduce the stress by planning for the worst conditions. Is hot and humid weather a possibility? How about a thunderstorm? A deposit on a rented air-conditioned tent and a set of misting fans can be a smart move. You may not end up needing these, but your peace of mind will be worth every penny. * Set up a kids’ station: Many outdoor reception spaces have a built-in advantage for hosting pintsized guests: There’s more space for them to stretch their legs and be kids without disrupting other guests. Create a kid-friendly corner featuring games, activities or even a rented inflatable bounce house that lets kids be active and let off some steam. They’ll be thrilled (and so will their parents). * Encourage exploration: If the big event is held in a public place, help your guests fully appreciate the experience. Does the park have a hiking path that leads to a beautiful waterfall? Have maps printed and leave out a stack for those who decide to take a little break. Are you getting married in a beautiful garden at a historic mansion? Ask the venue if you can take extra brochures to offer the guests, or set aside time for special guided tours. This is a sure way to show consideration for your guests and make the day memorable. When the pieces fall into place, planning and hosting an outdoor wedding is a beautiful way to begin your lives together. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call, 1-800-280-2832 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet Web site, www.auction.com, for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case, T.S.# 9948-4347. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse.
