Tips for hosting a better brunch

Burning, Tingling, Numbness or Pain? Don’t Suffer Any Longer!

Proven Medical Neuropathy Treatment with an 87% Success Rate Available in Newport Beach Do you suffer from: • Pins and needles in your feet, legs, hands or arms

Love the idea of hosting a brunch, but begin to regret it the moment you’re toiling over a pan of bacon grease while your friends are chatting over mimosas? You’re not alone. Whether you’re planning a simple brunch for a small group or an Easter brunch to wow a crowd, these simple tips and ideas are guaranteed to get you out of the kitchen and into the action. Prepare a game plan. Developing a checklist will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed with to-do’s. Once you know how many people will be attending the brunch, start planning the menu, gather recipes and make a grocery list. Take inventory of your cooking supplies, serving dishes and tableware. While cleaning the house, identify what decorations are needed. Picture the scene the night before. Figure out how to serve the food, decide where to put the drinks, gather extra seating and put all the plates, cups, cutlery and napkins on the table. Also, don’t forget the mugs or cocktail glasses if you plan to serve coffee or mimosas. While it might seem obvious, these little details can easily be overlooked. Lastminute jobs are bound to happen, so conquering the planned details ahead of time will help keep you sane. Create a menu full of make-ahead recipes. From drinks to dessert, make sure your menu allows you to spend more times with friends and family and less time in the kitchen. Sure, everyone loves a good omelet, but you’re not a short order cook. Instead, opt for low-maintenance recipes that can be prepared the night before and

popped in the oven the next morning. You can never go wrong with classic egg-based dishes such as quiche, strata and casserole. If your culinary skills aren’t up for the task of cooking for a crowd, don’t be afraid to choose store-bought or catered dishes. This will help alleviate any unnecessary stress and allow you to enjoy the event. Ditch the pile of dirty dishes in favor of disposable tableware. Instead of standing over the sink cleaning, spend the extra time relaxing with family and friends. Try a line of products that offer the total solution for your tableware needs, including a variety of plate and cup sizes and a serve and store container of cutlery. The Chinet Cut Crystal collection makes entertaining easy with tableware that complement one another and also earn compliments from guests. All the dishes can be tossed once people are done eating, keeping post-brunch cleanup to a minimum. Plus, all Chinet Cut Crystal products are recyclable - leaving you to only feel guilty about that second scone. Set the table in style. Make sure your brunch is as stylish as it is tasty. For a “hare-raising” reaction from your friends and family, fold Chinet Classic White napkins into the shape of bunnies and display in the center of each plate. A bunny napkin fold can also double as a place setting card. Simply write the name of the guest on one of the bunny ears. It’s a pretty and practical way to add personality to the table. - (BPT)

Girl Scout Troop Educates about Endangered Species

What do a green sea turtle, a blue butterfly and San Mateo thorn mint all have in common? They are all species endangered in California-and that’s no joke. The green sea turtle is classified as seriously threatened; worldwide its numbers have declined 90% over the past 50 years as they are hunted for meat and eggs and their habitats are threatened. The Mission Blue butterfly has been endangered since 1976 due to dieback of its most common host plant, the Silver Bush Lupine. Road construction, residential development and golf courses have eradicated the habitat of the San Mateo thorn mint-now it can only be found at Edgewood County Park. Girl Scout Troop 2917 is giving a voice to California’s endangered animals and plants at the Environmental Nature Center’s Spring Faire on May 7. Amidst the faire’s other animal and environment focused attractions, two teams of Girl Scouts will be hosting their own crafts and activity booths dealing with endangered wildlife and habitat conservation. Teaching others, says troop leader Cynthia Strasmann, “raises awareness and helps promote a change in people’s’ attitudes or knowledge.” Girl Scouts Shannon Strasmann, Sarah Shellow and Chloe Wong will present the Salt Marsh Birds Beak and San Mateo Thorn Mint plants; Annabella Rivera, Maya Simpson and Pennie Passion will present the Green Sea Turtle and Northern Spotted Owl; Megan McRae, Claire Lewis and Ashley Shellow will present the Wolverine and Blue Butterfly. Their craft booths are the culmination of their journey to earn their Silver Award. The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout

Cadette can earn and is meant to test a girls’ leadership skills while allowing them to give back to their community. The process includes discovering an important issue in their community, connecting with someone with the resources to help, and then putting their plan into action. They also learn problem solving, collaboration and organizational skills and develop a fresh commitment to their community. “Today, we can be overloaded with instant information from global sources,” says Strasmann. “How we use and formulate this information becomes vitally important in our society. Strong leadership and communication skills are necessary to be able to put forth our ideas and commitments to both our local and global communities.” The Environmental Nature Center, with its 45 year dedication to environmental education and sustainability, made an effortless partner. Girl Scouts are not new visitors to the center-over the years the ENC has helped scouts earn their Bronze, Silver and even Gold awards at the Spring Faire. Fittingly, Girl Scout founder, Juliette Gordon Low, “was a famous lover of nature,” Strasmann says. “We honor her legacy by promoting respect and love of the great outdoors.” The Girl Scouts will also do their part for sustainability by making their crafts out of primarily recycled materials such as corks, toilet paper rolls, and egg cartons. “I’m excited that this year the scouts are including an educational component to the crafts,” says ENC Communications Director Lori Whalen, who facilitated the partnership. “Even better, the educational component focuses on California endangered species, which

PAY LESS TO ADVERTISE TO REACH THE HIGH INCOME HOMEOWNERS OF NEWPORT BEACH, BALBOA, CORONA DEL MAR, AND NEWPORT COAST WHO WOULD LIKE TO BUY FROM YOU 1. Newport News Readers can afford your very best! According to reliable sources such as the U.S. census bureau the area served by the Newport News is one of Orange County’s highest income groups. These affluent nearby homeowners in Newport Beach, Balboa, Corona del Mar, and Newport Coast have more money to spend and the time to spend it. Make sure that these readers are aware of your company and what you do by keeping a regular, affordable advertising message in the newspaper that all of them read every week 2.Why pay more to reach your most preferred customers? Smart business owners and marketing experts agree that the most expensive advertising is advertising that doesn’t work. Savvy business managers are wise to be concerned about high volume publications that don’t deliver a strong local audience that would bring you customers. Major daily newspapers like the Times and the Register reach nearly a million readers, but do you really need to pay their high prices to reach your customers in Newport News? While some glossy monthly magazines are stylish, their costly rates may not be realistic compared to choosing a highly effective newspaper like the Newport News which is received by your most likely preferred customers of high income homeowners with advertising that costs you far less money. The Newport News is attractive, effective and affordable. 3. Why do Newport News Readers read the Newport News? Since 1907 The Newport News has been the favorite weekly publication of Newport Beach. On July 15, 1997, the Superior Court of Orange County adjudicated

(approved) The Newport News as the official newspaper for The City of Newport Beach and the County or Orange. That’s why you regularly see stories about the Newport News Chamber of Commerce, and prominent Newport News residents in the Newport News. So when you advertise In the Newport News you get the most popular weekly for Newport Beach readers. 4.U S Post office plus selected delivery makes this newspaper special! While everyone knows that the Newport News is delivered to nearly every single family residence in Newport Coast by the United States Post office, the Newport News is also hand-delivered each week to local Newport News area businesses, professional offices, library, and several centrally located news racks other popular gathering spots where Newport News residents can easily pick up a copy. 5.Who is this woman that raises hundreds of millions of dollars and how can she help me grow my business? If you don’t know her already, get to know Kelly Bennett, the top society columnist in Orange County. She also has the top rated radio show and television program “Breakfast with Gary and Kelly. Readers eagerly await her weekly column in the Newport News which features major charity events where the beautiful people

of Orange County gather for fashionable luncheons and dinners which regularly raise millions of dollars for worthy causes. Permit us to say that placing your advertising where it is seen by people who can afford to give away millions is the best advertising purchase you will ever make. Read Kelly Bennett’s “Society Scene “column every week in the Newport News and see why. 6. Free Online Advertising Newport News Version each week. While many people still prefer to have a hard copy of the Newport News to hold in their hand, our online version is equally popular for those who want to access our entire newspaper on their smartphone, tablet or computer. Your regular ad will appear in our online edition at no extra charge. Just click on the Thenewportnews.com. 7. How Fast Will this Home be sold? We’d like to share some actual quotes from local Newport News area realtors: BUYERS CAME IN WAVING the ad that appeared in the Newport News.” Two factors determine how fast a house will sell: 1.Choose a skilled real estate professional 2. Advertise it in the Newport News Whether you are selling homes or other desirable goods or services you should consider the Newport News for your advertising.

The undersigned caused the Notice of Default and Election to Sell to be recorded in the county where the real property is located and more than three months have elapsed since such recordation. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee, and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. Notice To Potential Bidders: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved

in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. Notice To Property Owner: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (877)440-4460 or visit this Internet Web site www.mkconsultantsinc.com, using the file number assigned to this case F16-00093. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale.
