PACIFIC CHORALE ANNOUNCES SINGER AUDITIONS FOR 2019–2020 SEASON
Pacific Chorale, resident chorus at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, today announced upcoming auditions for prospective volunteer singers. Auditions will be held January 20–26, 2019 by prior appointment only. Prospective singers are requested to visit Pacific Chorale’s web site at pacificchorale.org/auditions to learn about the audition process, then to submit their information via the online form provided to schedule an audition time. Rehearsals for the fall begin in September, although singers are also encouraged to participate in Pacific Chorale’s Festival Chorus in August 2019. The 140-voice ensemble will present its own concert season at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall conducted by Artistic Director Robert Istad, as well as appearing as the guest chorus in several performances presented by Pacific Symphony. While applications are being accepted for both volunteer and paid positions with Pacific Chorale, this year’s auditions are primarily focused on proficient volunteer singers. Volunteer members of the Chorale hail from a broad range of backgrounds and career fields, but share a love for and extensive experience performing choral music. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in both self-produced and contracted engagements calling for larger groups of singers. Pacific Chorale members enjoy a wide variety of challenging and stimulating repertoire and performance opportunities, including world and West Coast premieres and
guest appearances with prominent ensembles and artists. ABOUT ROBERT ISTAD Dr. Robert Istad has served as Pacific Chorale’s Artistic Director since July 1, 2017. He has prepared choruses for many of the world’s leading orchestral conductors, and has been featured on a number of recordings including The John Williams Collection on Sony Classical and Nostos: The Homecoming of Music on Yarlung Records. He continues in his role as Professor of Music, Director of Choral Studies, California State University, Fullerton. He is also serving as the President of the California Choral Directors Association and was recently elected to the board of directors of the national choral industry’s association, Chorus America. ABOUT PACIFIC CHORALE Pacific Chorale has delighted national and international audiences with concerts of great choral music performed at the highest musical standards since 1968. Under the artistic leadership of Robert Istad, the organization produces a series of concerts each year at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, where it serves as the sole resident choir. The mission of Pacific Chorale is to inspire our community through artistry and innovation in choral music performances and education programs. Pacific Chorale is recognized for exceptional artistic expression, preserving and performing classical choral music as well as stimulating
American-focused programming. Pacific Chorale presents a substantial performance season of its own and is sought regularly to perform with the nation’s leading symphonies. Pacific Chorale has infused an Old World art form with California’s hallmark innovation and cultural independence, developing innovative new concepts in programming, and expanding the traditional concepts of choral repertoire and performance. The organization boasts over 30 world premieres and has released 14 self-produced recordings. In addition to its long-standing partnership with Pacific Symphony, with whom Pacific Chorale made its Carnegie Hall debut in April 2018, the Chorale has performed with such
renowned American ensembles as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the National Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and Musica Angelica. Pacific Chorale has also toured extensively to more than 19 countries in Europe, South America and Asia, and has collaborated with the London Symphony, the Munich Symphony, L’Orchestre Lamoureux and L’Orchestre de St-Louis-en-l’Île of Paris, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the China National Symphony, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Estonian National Symphony, and the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional of Argentina.

5 WAYS TO TREAT YOUR FAMILY (AND YOURSELF) AND SAVE MONEY THIS HOLIDAY The holidays are a cheerful time of year, but the season also comes with increased spending - from purchasing gifts to holiday gatherings and travel. And, while most are shopping for gifts for others, recent research shows that more than half of shoppers are also buying for themselves, adding further to the shopping list.[1] There’s no better time than now to plan for holiday gift shopping in order to scoop up the best deals. Hold a secret gift exchange: Encouraging a secret gift exchange is a fun, festive way to embrace the spirit of giving, while curbing your spending. A gift exchange requires you to shop for only one person, so you can spend more time focusing on the perfect present. You’ll have a blast guessing who gave what when it comes time to exchange gifts as a group! 2. Get a jump start on savings: To get some of the season’s best deals, plan ahead. Have your eyes on a certain item? Invest time in advance of the holidays to seek out the biggest sales. It’s never too early to start comparing online and in-store deals for that special treat. Keeping tabs on prices on your smartphone can help you stay organized while shopping. Page 4

Be sure to capture photos of your DIY activities on your smartphone and share them on social media for others to see! 5. Carpool caroling: Travel

FIGHTING AN ILLNESS? 4 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM The winter months bring cold and flu season, which can take a toll on your health. While flu shots and rest are common advice for prevention, a strong immune system is critical to keeping you healthy all year long. According to Margaret Martin, RD, MS, LDN, CDE, a Registered Dietitian at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, “Your body’s ability to fight infection and disease depends on your immune system.” Margaret provides one-on-one nutrition consultations for people with cancer who have a weakened immune system due to the effects of treatment, but she says keeping a healthy immune system is important for everyone. “Boosting your immune system during and after cancer treatment can help you feel better, maintain your strength, avoid treatment delays and speed your recovery. This goes for anyone fighting an illness, or preventing one.” Margaret offers these important tips to help boost your immune system and keep it running smoothly throughout the year Keep a plant-based, heart-healthy menu. Choose foods first as your source of vitamins and nutrients. Unless your healthcare team directs you to take a vitamin or supplement, you likely do not need one. The best way to include these nutrients is by eating whole foods. Make sure your meals incorporate a variety of vegetables Page 6
and fruits, whole grains, legumes, beans, lean protein and healthy fats. Eat small, frequent meals throughout the day to stay energized and to ensure your body is getting enough calories, proteins and nutrients. Protein acts as a “builder” and the body uses it to build and repair tissues. Protein is also vital for making hormones and enzymes that promote the body’s daily functions and supports a healthy immune system. In addition, drinking eight to 10 glasses of fluids every day is one of the most effective ways to flush waste from your body and support the health of your immune system. Power up with phytochemicals. Fruits, vegetables and other plants contain naturally occurring substances known as phytochemicals. Phytochemicals give fruits and vegetables their color and flavor. Phytochemicals act as soldiers in the immune system to protect the body from damage. Studies show that phytochemicals help support the: * Immune system * Creation of healthy cells * Death of damaged cells (such as cancer cells) Decrease your risk of malnutrition. It can be harder for a malnourished body to fight off an illness or infection. Malnutrition results when the body does not receive enough calories and/or nutrients to promote good health and sustain healthy functioning of your body’s systems. When you’re
The San Clemente News
“in the slumps,” it can be easy to avoid eating altogether. Follow these tips to reduce your risk of malnutrition during cancer treatment: * Choose a variety of foods each week from all the food groups. Talk with your healthcare team before changing your diet. Eat regularly throughout the day, every four to six hours. Even if you do not feel hungry, try to have a snack or mini meal. If you forget to eat, try setting a timer. * Include a protein source with every meal and most snacks. Make changes to your lifestyle. And stick to them. In addition to using nutrition to boost your immune system, you can also make changes to your lifestyle to help support health and immunity.
These include: * Decrease your exposure to bacteria, viruses and germs. * Aim for 7 hours or more of sleep every night. If your sleep is interrupted, try a 30-minute nap during the day. * Reduce stress by taking time to do things you enjoy such as spending time with family, spending time outdoors or reading. If your feelings of anxiety or depression make it difficult for you to complete daily tasks, talk to your healthcare team. ‘TIS THE SEASON TO GET THE HOME READY FOR HOLIDAY ENTERTAINING Smart tips to prepare the kitchen and dining room for holiday entertaining As the year winds down, social calendars fill up with merriment-filled gatherings among friends and family. When hosting a seasonal gathering at home, being proactive can help streamline tasks and reduce stress. From whipping up a feast to toasting in the New Year, here are five ideas for getting the heart of the home - the kitchen and dining spaces - ready for holiday entertaining. Simplify measurements Chopped veggies and premeasured ingredients can streamline any cooking adventure and save precious time. Fill the fridge and pantry with ready-to-go items as much as possible and consider smart kitchen enhancements that make measuring a breeze. For example, the Beale MeasureFill touch kitchen faucet from American Standard provides an adjustable set amount of water on demand, giving holiday cooks the precise measurement faster than using conventional measuring cups. Plus, the easy touch on/off feature is ideal when hands are full or dirty; to operate, just touch it with the wrist or the back of the hand. Prepare meal necessities To create a holiday table worthy of a magazine spread, prepare all the plates, platters and servingware needed beforehand. This is a good time to take stock of place settings, too. (Important tip: Have an extra setting or two available for last-minute RSVPs or unexpected guests.)
Whether it’s a buffet-style meal or multi-course sit-down dinner, make sure to have enough serving utensils for everything on the menu, from appetizers to desserts. Stock all washing spaces Baking, cooking and entertaining tasks generate dirty dishes for days, so get wash spaces ready with fresh sponges, plenty of soap, drying racks and towels. Rotate between washing and cooking to eliminate a big mess at the end of entertaining. To ease the task of hand-washing large dishes, consider installing a sizable sink that also updates the kitchen’s style. The handcrafted Pekoe apron-front kitchen sink from American Standard has a generously-sized single basin to accommodate large pots and pans; plus, the 18-gauge stainless steel material is stain-, heat- and chip-resistant. Create clean, comfortable spaces Clear clutter from common spaces where guests will be congregating for refreshments, meals and more. Focus on the dining room where guests will toast to a merry holiday, but don’t forget the kitchen for visitors who might want to pitch in or provide good cheer and holiday conversation during last-minute meal preparations. Add extra chairs and seating as well as leaves to extend tables so there’s plenty of room for everyone and all the delicious foods that will be served. The goal is for people to feel comfortably cozy without being overcrowded.
Manage multitasking Multitasking is a must for big entertaining events. While appetizers are in the oven, wash a few dishes. When the main course is simmering, mingle with guests. To maximize time in the kitchen, think about enhancements that allow multitasking with ease, such as the K7 semiprofessional faucet with foot control technology from GROHE. Busy or dirty hands? No problem. Turn the
water flow on and off with a tap of the foot on an activation plate installed discreetly in the toe space of the kitchen cabinet. This allows more to get done easily, while helping prevent the spread of germs. Holiday entertaining is simplified with a few modern home updates and smart cooking tricks. By focusing on the heart of the home, everyone will have a joyous season - especially the host or hostess. - (BPT)

ACTION STAR BRUCE WILLIS SELLS SUN VALLEY SKI HOME!
Bruce Willis has something new to remember for 2018 - the sale of the home he has had on the market since 2011. Though he bought it in 2003 for less than its final sale price of $5.5 million, a sales record in the Hailey, Idaho area, it was an excruciating drop from its original list price of $15 million. In the last 15 years, Willis rebuilt the main house, added a guest house, gym, streams and ponds and paid years of property taxes, so whether he made profit, broke even or took a loss is not known. For Willis, no longer having to worry about finding a buyer or upkeep is likely worth the outcome. No stranger to collecting exceptional real estate, Willis has been buying and selling homes for years. He has owned a number of homes in the Los Angeles area, Idaho, apartments in Manhattan and most recently purchased a mansion in Bedford, New York. As more and more of Hollywood’s actors segue into buying and flipping real estate, Willis is near the top of the list. In recent years, he has been gravitating towards more real estate activity on the East Coast. Sited on 20 acres between Hailey
and Ketchum on Flying Heart Lake, the compound is completely private with thick woodlands with multiple ponds and streams. The 8,403-square-foot home is a six-bedroom, seven-bath log house with heated terraces, balconies and driveway. Inside there are vaulted ceilings, views of Flying Heart Lake and the mountains, three fireplaces, and large gourmet kitchen. The 2,200-square-foot master suite has a fireplace and sitting area with jetted soaking tub, granite steam shower and large walk-in closet and dressing room with built-in dressers and shelving. Outside is a resort-size heated swimming pool with waterfalls and slides. Skiing, hiking, biking, live music and theater are only minutes away from the gated, secure property. Since gaining his spot as one of America’s favorite actors with the five television seasons of Moonlighting, Willis has continued making popular box office films, acted on Broadway and branched into singing and recorded an album. His Die Hard trilogy of films gained him the moniker “action hero,” which will likely stay with him forever. Never slowing down with four new films this year and three
in various stages of production for 2019 with an additional one rumored, one wonders if he ever has a chance to visit any of his lovely collection of homes. After a decade on the market, Bruce Willis’s Idaho nature retreat has finally sold, thanks to his new hero, listing agent, Travis Jones of
Engel & Volkers,Ketchum, Idaho. Originally listed in 2011 for $15 million, with brokerage changes and price changes through the years, the final list price was $5.895 million and it sold for $5.495 million. Source: toptenrealestatedeals.com

AFFORDABLE AFFAIR: 7 TIPS FOR A HOLIDAY BASH ON A BUDGET
The days leading up to the holidays tend to be among the busiest of the year, with lots of celebrations taking place over a few short weeks. If you’re hosting a holiday celebration of your own, you’re following a national trend. Statista reports some 59 percent of Americans anticipate spending on holiday entertaining this year. That said, it’s important not to let your party planning become so stressful, time consuming or pricey that it interferes with your enjoyment of the season itself. Don’t worry. Preparing for a holiday bash doesn’t need to be hugely expensive or overwhelming if you can enlist help for some of the busywork and outsource some of the key elements. Consider the following ideas for bringing friends and family together this year without having to micromanage either your budget or the logistical details. * Enlist a crew of friends and family members to help with the pre-cleaning, prep, cooking, bartending and final clean-up. Many hands make light work, and working toward a common goal can be a fun part of the gathering itself. * Instead of investing in your own serving ware and glassware, simply head to your nearest party rental store and check off all your needed supplies. The result will be far more elegant than opting for disposable paper products, and you need not worry about how and where you’ll store all those pieces afterward. * Worried that your limited furniture collection won’t allow guests to fully relax? Instead of buying something new, think about renting some of the fun, comfortable and design-forward seating groups now available for rental. Today’s options go way beyond traditional folding chairs to encompass cocktail tables, rugs, lighting elements, bars and fully configurable sectionals and lounges, many of which can be used inside or out. Page 10
* To take your party theme a step further, consider the fun of renting a full-sized backdrop that sets the stage while providing a prime selfie opportunity for your guests. Festive settings range from barns to castles to famous landmarks to cityscapes to breathtaking scenes from nature. * Hire a local caterer for your refreshments, or just contract for an attention-grabbing main course. Keep it simple with a traditional meal or opt for a local specialty. * Simplify the entertainment and/or dance music by creating a party playlist on your smartphone
The San Clemente News
ahead of time, then hooking it up to your own speakers. * Finally, don’t discount the idea of holding your party at a restaurant or rented event venue. That saves you from time-consuming preparations and cleanup, shifts the liability elsewhere and lets guests come and go at their discretion. Celebrating the holiday season with friends and family can become cost-effective and hassle-free when you turn to a rental store for help. THE MIRACLE OF MAGIC RAISES NEARLY $1.3 MILLION TO SUPPORT CHILDREN The Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point was the scene for the Miracles for Kids Annual Night of Miracles Gala: The Miracle of Magic where nearly 500 of Southern California’s most generous philanthropists, business and civic leaders gathered to raise funds to benefit families with critically-ill children. This year, guests made the biggest impact in the nonprofit’s 16-year history, raising nearly $1.3 million. “Words cannot express our gratitude to the incredible community of friends, donors, volunteers and sponsors who help make miracles happen at Miracles for Kids every day of the year,” said Autumn Strier, Co-founder and CEO of Miracles for Kids. The Fund-a-Family portion of the evening raised $700K of the $1.3 million during which guests raise their paddle to donate at various levels that range from $100K to $100. In an exciting and unexpected moment, four $100K donations were gifted by generous supporters. A gourmet dinner and signature cocktails from custom bars by longtime sponsors NOLET’S Silver Gin, Ketel One Family Made Vodka, and Duke Spirits kept the guests satisfied. Further adding to the excitement of the evening was the Opportunity Drawing for the chance to win a pair of White Gold Diamond Earrings containing 370 round diamonds weighing 9.06CTS with a retail value of $18,500 – generously donated by the Night of Miracles Gala exclusive jewelry sponsor, Martin Katz. The lucky winning guest, Brian Hill, took home the opportunity item after purchasing just a handful of tickets for $100 each. Guests continued to raise their paddles during the lively and highly anticipated live auction. Top items included a Telluride Ski Resort Package and a Vintner Hosted Wine Connoisseur’s Getaway with Private Air, which were each generously donated by Orange County locals and company owners - Chad Horning of Telluride Ski & Golf Resort and Steve and Seanne Contursi of Arrow&Branch. These top packages sold for $26,000 and $20,000 respectively. Another exciting live auction item of note was a Heisman House Football Weekend with ESPN SportsCenter Co-Anchor Neil Everett and other ESPN on air talent – a unique package donated by Miracles for Kids Ambassador and long-time friend, Neil Everett, who also donated his time as the evening’s Emcee and Master of Ceremonies. The magical evening was also filled with mesmerizing entertainment by award-winning recording artist and Broadway star, Crystal Starr, and acclaimed illusionist and resident magician at the Wynn Resort & Casino, ShimShi – who was also the last magician standing on the 2008 season of NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Guests were also treated to up-close magic and sleight-of-hand by some of country’s best magicians from the worldfamous Magic Castle. Joe Perricone, Chairman of Perricone Farms, was named the 2018 Miracle Maker Honoree, the nonprofit’s highest community honor. Under Mr. Perricone’s leadership, Perricone Farms – one of the nation’s largest citrus growers and the biggest supplier of freshly squeezed orange juice in the western United States – has shown incredible support for Miracles for Kids’ mission and families in need, including launching the company’s Home Runs for Kids Program, which raised over $50,000 through their pledge to donate $250 for every home run hit by the Los Angeles Angels during the 2017-2018 season. The gala also honored the Moises Alvares and his family, who are currently residing at Miracle Manor, Miracles for Kids’ affordable housing program located near CHOC Children’s in Orange. Moises’ story embodies the many challenges faced by families fighting a life-threatening illness. Moises was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 2015, and continues to battle the disease. His story highlights his fight and Miracles for Kids’ financial and emotional support throughout his inspiring journey. HOW A HEALTHY TUMMY CAN BE GOOD FOR YOUR WELL-BEING
Whether it’s eating too many slices of pizza or constantly getting takeout, most of us have slipped on our good eating habits at one time or another. But is avoiding unhealthy foods enough to keep our bodies in top shape? While gut health is not something many people consider, Mayo Clinic experts agree that it is important to pay attention to as it can affect your overall well-being. Here’s what you need to know about your gut and how it concerns your health. Hundreds of different bacteria
species live in your gut The lining of your gut is covered in bacteria, and these organisms create a micro-ecosystem called the microbiome. Before you stare at your stomach in horror, know that many of these bacteria species are good for you and should be nurtured with specialized plant fibers called prebiotics. Prebiotics encourage healthy bacteria growth and can be easily incorporated into your diet, as they are found in many fruits and vegetables. Look for foods containing
complex carbohydrates, which can’t be digested by the body and instead become food for the healthy bacteria living in your gut. Probiotics offer another way to help maintain a healthy balance of good bacteria living in the gut. The difference with probiotics is that they actually contain live organisms. Instead of nurturing healthy bacteria, probiotics add specific strains of healthy bacteria to your microbiome. Probiotics can be found in foods like yogurt, kimchi and sauerkraut. Kombucha is also a good source of probiotics. You can also find prebiotic and probiotic supplements designed to help with specific conditions. Consult your doctor before adding supplements to your diet. A healthy gut may be connected to weight loss The benefits of a healthy gut are still being studied, and more research is needed to confirm how a healthy gut contributes to weight loss. In a preliminary study, Mayo Clinic collected and analyzed gut bacteria samples from a group of 26 participants enrolled in the Mayo Clinic Obesity Treatment Research Program. The research team found that those who did not lose weight had
different gut bacteria than those who did. Dr. Purna Kashyap, a Mayo Clinic gastroenterologist and co-author of the study, says that these findings “suggested to us that gut bacteria may possibly be an important determinant of weight loss in response to diet and lifestyle changes.” Poor gut health can exacerbate certain autoimmune disorders While there are species of healthy bacteria living in your gut, some species in the microbiome are not helpful. Having an imbalance of the two can lead to poor gut health, which can then exacerbate certain autoimmune disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Improving your diet is the best way to foster healthy gut bacteria. Along with eating more fruits and vegetables, eliminate as much processed foods and added sugar as possible. It’s also a good idea to reduce meat consumption and to incorporate alternative proteins such as legumes, tofu and nuts into your diet. By improving your gut health, you have the potential to boost your overall well-being. Learn more about the benefits of healthy gut bacteria by visiting us at mayoclinic.org. - (BPT)
5 TIPS FOR HOLIDAY ROAD TRAVEL If you’re planning to travel for the holidays this year, you’re not alone. Over 107 million people traveled last year for the holidays, according to estimates from the American Automobile Association (AAA), and more than 97 million of them did so along the nation’s highways. If you plan to join them this year, traffic and potholes aren’t the only potential problems you’ll need to navigate. Weather can also be a challenge during the holidays. According to the Federal Highway Administration, over 70 percent of the roads in the United States are located in snowy regions, which receive five inches of snow or
more, on average each year. The holidays are stressful enough, so with that in mind, Cooper Tires offers you these winter driving maintenance tips to be sure your car is ready for whatever the holiday roads have in store. Like every other aspect of your holiday celebrations, your car - and its tires - will benefit from a little preplanning. 1. Give your car a quick checkup. This is a great time to ensure all of your vehicle’s fluid levels are up to par - oil, windshield washer fluid, etc. You don’t want to be stuck without windshield washer fluid if snowy slush gets sprayed onto your windshield.
This is also a good time to test your battery to see that it is still in working order. You can find how-to guides online for any of these tasks, and if you’re uncomfortable doing this yourself, you can also take your car to your mechanic for a quick inspection. 2. Be sure your tire tread is in good shape. When it comes to winter weather driving, a general rule is that the more tread depth, the better. A tire’s minimum tread depth should be more than 2/32 of an inch deep all around the tire. You can check your tread depth by inserting the edge of a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head down, and facing you. If the top of Lincoln’s head is covered by tread, there is at least a minimum amount of tread left. If the top of his head is visible at any point around the tire, it’s time for a replacement. While you’re examining the tread, you can also look for signs of uneven wear or damage such as cuts, cracks, splits, punctures and bulges. These conditions shorten the life of tires or even cause tire failure. 3. Have the right tires for your needs. While all-season tires are a great choice for many people, if you live in an area that routinely experiences extremely cold temperatures and/or heavy snowfall - or plan to travel to one during the holidays - you should add winter tires to your vehicle. Winter tires are specifically designed to improve braking and handling on snow and ice. The Discoverer True North™ winter tire from Cooper Tires
is designed to provide the perfect combination of control and handling for confident winter driving, while maintaining a tight grip to the road in cold weather conditions. This helps allow you to keep excellent control while driving in any winter conditions, and also maintain a smooth, quiet and comfortable ride. 4. Pack an emergency kit in your car. Depending on where you are traveling, the road may take you through areas that aren’t so populated. And if your car breaks down in one of these areas, finding help can be difficult. Your kit should include water, a blanket, a battery-powered phone, some non-perishable food, a first-aid kit and the tools you would need to change a tire. 5. Prepare for the weather. Winter weather can be unpredictable, and the last thing you want to do is feel like you are racing somewhere so as not to be late. Driving in ice or snow is an everyday part of life for the owners of more than 250 million vehicles across the country, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. If you will be among them, allow extra time in your holiday plans so that you can drive slower in bad weather or even pull over and spend the night in a hotel if necessary. Remember: It’s more important that everyone show up for the holiday festivities rather than when they show up. QUARTER PAGE COLOR This month I have terrific low prices on quarter page full color ad packages. Plus you can choose to either pre pay or pay as you go. But remember these rates apply only if you order this month. Smart business owners and marketing experts agree that the best advertising program is one which brings you clients and customers. Savvy business managers are wise to be concerned about high volume publications that don’t deliver a strong local audience that would generate immediate income for your business. Major daily newspapers like the Times and the Register reach nearly a million readers, but do you really need to pay their high prices to reach your customers in San Clemente, Talega, Dana Point? While some glossy monthly magazines are stylish, their costly rates may not be realistic compared to choosing a highly effective newspaper like these reasonably priced local newspapers which are received by your most likely preferred customers of high income homeowners. This advertising costs you far less money. These five local newspapers are attractive, effective and affordable. Let’s talk today!

According to reliable sources such as the U.S. Census Bureau the area served by the San Clemente News is one of Orange County’s highest income groups. These affluent nearby homeowners in San Clemente, have more money to spend and the time to spend it. Make sure that these readers are aware of your company and what you do by keeping a regular, affordable advertising message in the newspaper that all of them read every week 7. Why pay more to reach your most preferred customers? Smart business owners and marketing experts agree that the most expensive advertising is advertising that doesn’t work. Savvy business managers are wise to be concerned about high volume publications that don’t deliver a strong local audience that would bring you customers. Major daily newspapers like the Times and the Register reach nearly a million readers, but do you really need to pay their high prices to reach your customers in San Clemente. 8. Why do San Clemente Readers read the San Clemente News? In the year 2006, the Superior Court of Orange County adjudicated (approved) The San Clemente News as the official newspaper for San Clemente. That’s why you regularly see stories about the San Clemente City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and prominent San Clemente people in the San Clemente News. So when you advertise In the San Clemente News you get the best of San Clemente readers.

2019 PAGEANT OF THE MASTERS TICKETS ON SALE NOW
Tickets for the much-anticipated 2019 Pageant of the Masters are on sale now and make the perfect holiday present for art lovers and entertainmentseekers. Share the timeless gift of “living pictures” with tickets to next summer’s production The Time Machine. Tickets are available for purchase online www.foapom.com/time-machine-tickets/ or by calling (800) 487-3378. The 2019 Pageant of the Masters, The Time Machine, will take audiences around the globe and into the past, present, and future in search of great art and amazing stories. Taking its cues from science fiction and steampunk fantasies, The Time Machine will be a ticket to thrills, laughter, beautiful music and extraordinary living art under the stars. Pageant of the Masters producer/director Diane Challis Davy is thrilled with the staging and storytelling possibilities for next summer’s The Time Machine. “I was inspired by H.G. Wells’ novel, and we intend to conjure up a collection of artists who imagined and re-created scenes from the past and future,” she said. “Look at the works of artists like Jean-Leon Gerome and Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema,” Challis Davy continued. “They were both obsessed with re-imagining the glamour and sensuality of history. Their works tell us as much about their era as they reveal the spectacle of the ancient empires they sought to dramatize. We hope The Time Machine will become a mysterious journey through time and space, and art. Of course, there’ll be no shortage of surprises along the way, perhaps a few pop-culture cameo appearances.” The Pageant of the Masters has been a Laguna Beach tradition since the 1930’s and now attracts over 140,000 patrons every summer. In preparation for The Time Machine, Challis Davy is once again summoning her creative energies and inspiring her talented team of theatrical artists as they breathe

life into this one-of-a-kind entertainment. Each night during the summer season, the Pageant presents spectacular stage illusions with original, live music performed by a professional orchestra and informative, engaging live narration under the stars. “At its core, The Time Machine will focus on the ways in which art reveals and reflects the world in which it was created,” said veteran scriptwriter Dan Duling. “When we look at works by artists like Leonardo da Vinci or Johannes Vermeer, they provide us with invaluable clues to better understand life in their times.” As always, Challis Davy and the team of artists and technicians realize the Pageant wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers who return year after year to take part. Challis Davy offered a final, thoughtful observation: “The Pageant has always
