CELEBRATE NATIONAL BEACH SAFETY WEEK IN SAN CLEMENTE
San Clemente is host to some of the nicest weather, beaches, and surf found anywhere in the world. But although it’s fun and exciting, the ocean can also be very dangerous. Last year San Clemente lifeguards rescued over 1,500 swimmers in distress from our waters. Lifeguards estimate that 80 to 90% of these rescues were swimmers caught in rip currents.
Because of these dangers in San Clemente and anywhere there is open water, May 21st through May 28th has been designated as National Beach Safety week. In an effort to support Beach Safety Week and to increase beach and ocean safety awareness, the San Clemente City Lifeguards will be hosting a free Open House at the Marine Safety Headquarters on
Saturday, May 26th. The Open House is your opportunity to tour lifeguard headquarters and talk to some of the lifeguards you see in the towers and on the beach. They will share ocean and beach safety tips with you and your family. The open house will run from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. All ages are welcome. Marine Safety Headquarters is located on the beach, just north of the pier.
In addition to the open house, San Clemente Lifeguards will be also be offering free, one-hour Ocean Safety Clinics where you will learn about ocean safety and have an opportunity to get into the water with a lifeguard learning how to negotiate waves and get out of rip currents. This is open to the public on the second and forth Saturdays in June and July (June 16 and 30, and July 14 and 28). The clinics will be conducted at Marine Safety Headquarters from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. If you are new to town or just want to learn more about how to keep your family or yourself safe at the beach, this is a great opportunity. If you can’t attend the Open House or the free Ocean Safety Clinics, following are some tips the lifeguards would like to share: • Learn to swim • Swim near a lifeguard • Never swim alone • Check with the lifeguards before going into the water • Learn rip current safety • Obey posted signs and flags • Use sunscreen San Clemente lifeguards encourage beachgoers to always contact a lifeguard before going in the ocean. The lifeguards will have the best information about the surf size, ocean conditions, and any hazards that may not be apparent.

Dear Valued Customers & Friends, As you may know, about a year ago, we decided to close our doors to our San Clemente shop and retire. We enjoyed a year-long break, but during that time, I was getting phone calls from many of our customers and friends that still needed my services. I realized that I still really wanted to help customers with their optical needs, so I decided to re-open Vision Crafters in a new location in Laguna Hills. We are officially back open for business!

The secret to Mother’s Day gifting success: Give time, not stuff
She nursed you through countless cases of childhood sniffles, taught you to tie your shoes and make a mean omelet, and she’s still your go-to source for good advice and your favorite homebaked cookies. Are you really going to just give Mom a pair of socks and some flowers for Mother’s Day? You can do better than that. In the tradition of a current pop-culture meme, here’s a “give this, not that” list of Mother’s Day ideas: Give: Your time. Last year, 44 percent of mothers surveyed by online deal site PriceGrabber said they wanted quality time with their family for Mother’s Day. Whether your family includes adult children who live and work far from their childhood home (and Mom) or a busy family with young children, it can be hard to find time to spend with each other on a regular basis. On Mother’s Day, make a point of devoting the day to Mom. Whatever you choose to do together - dine out, visit a botanical garden or just hang out at home - you’ll be giving her the gift she wants most: time with you. Don’t give: Stuff. There’s a difference between a thoughtful gift that has meaning to the recipient, and something clearly bought out of desperation just so the giver has something to hand over on Mother’s Day. Moms know the difference. Things like cowboy boots, sunglasses and even designer purses were among the items mothers said they didn’t want in a survey by Ebates. Don’t wait until the last minute to buy something she may not want. Put some thought into the gift a week or two before the big day so you can be sure you’re giving her something she really wants, like a piece of unique jewelry, her favorite bath products, or an attractive scarf. Page 6
Give: A great meal out. It’s easy to understand why dining out was on the list of most-wanted gifts for mothers in every geographic area surveyed by Ebates. What could make Mom happier than enjoying a great meal with her family? Not having to cook it herself or clean up afterward! Taking Mom out for meal is a time-honored Mother’s Day tradition and restaurants can be busy on the first Sunday of May. In fact, Chris Ciavarra, senior vice president of marketing for Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, reports that Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for their restaurant locations across the country. When choosing a place to take Mom, look for a place that will please her palate with familiar flavors, good food and the kind of warm, comforting ambience she creates in her own dining room or kitchen. Family-style restaurants like Cracker Barrel are a good choice for Mother’s Day because there’s something on the menu for everyone. Plus, when Mom’s done with her meal, she can pick out the perfect gift from the store’s collection of nostalgic items.
The San Clemente News
Don’t give: Practical kitchen items. No matter how much Mom says she wants a new electric can opener or how much she needs a new set of pots and pans, don’t give these items on Mother’s Day. Moms are more than just the sum of the time they spend in the kitchen. If she really needs and wants those things, why not give them to her at some other time of year, for no other reason than she’s a great mother? Or, if you must give something kitchen-related for Mother’s Day, consider something that’s pretty and fun, too, like decorative serve ware. Buy from a store that offers free gift wrapping services - like Cracker Barrel and it’s even easier to give a good-looking gift. Give: Gift cards. A gift card to her favorite store was another popular selection of moms surveyed by Ebates. But don’t think giving her a gift card is all you have to do. Research to find just the right card for her, and then offer to accompany her on a shopping excursion to her favorite store. That way, you’ll be giving her two things she wants most - a gift card and time spent with you. Don’t give: Technology. Do you really want to give Mom a smartphone that will be obsolete by next Mother’s Day? Or a tablet so complicated she’ll never figure out how to use it on her own? If your mother’s digitally inclined, chances are she already has the tech she needs and wants. And if she doesn’t, trying to choose it for her can be like trying to pick a pet for someone else - never a good idea. Instead, keep gift items simple, personal and nostalgic. For more Mother’s Day gift ideas, gift cards and to learn about special menus for Mother’s Day, visit www.crackerbarrel.com. - (BPT)

The Wings of Freedom Tour Unique Display at the John Wayne Airport / Lyon Air Museum from May 9th to 13th
In honor of our WWII Veterans ~ The Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour Brings Extremely Rare Bomber and Fighter Aircraft for Local Living History Display as Part of 110city Nationwide Tour Participating in the Collings Foundation’s WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine” WWII Heavy Bomber, Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” WWII Heavy Bomber and North American B-25 Mitchell and P-51 Mustang fighter, will fly to Lyon Air Museum for a visit from May 9th to 13th. This is a rare opportunity to visit, explore, and learn more about these unique and rare treasures of aviation history. The B-17 is one of only 8 in flying condition in the United States , the B-24J is the sole remaining examples of its type flying in the World. The B-25 is best known for being used in the daring Doolittle raid. The P-51 Mustang was awarded the prestigious Grand Champion for restoration at EAA’s Oshkosh AirVenture. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out - $12 for adults, $9 for seniors and veterans, $6 for children ages 5 -17, and free for children
under 5 is requested for access to up-close viewing and tours through the inside of the aircraft and access to Lyon Air Museum. Visitors may also experience the once-in-alifetime opportunity to actually take a 30-minute flight aboard these rare aircraft. Flights on either the B-17 or B-24 are $450 per person. Get some “stick time” in the world’s greatest fighter! P-51 flights are $2,200 for a half hour and $3,200 for a full hour. B-25 flights are $400 per person. For reservations and information on flight experiences call 800-568-8924. The WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR will be on display at Lyon Air Museum in Santa Ana, located at 19300 Ike Jones Road on the west side of John Wayne Airport. The WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR will arrive at Lyon Air Museum at 2:00 PM on May 9th and will be on display until the aircraft departs after 5:00 PM operations on May 13th. Hours of ground tours and display are: 2:00 PM through 5:00 PM on Wednesday, May 9th; 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Thusday, May 9th through Sunday, May 13th. The 30-minute flight experiences are normally scheduled before and after the
ground tour times above. The Collings Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit educational foundation devoted to organizing “living history” events that allows people to learn more about their heritage and history through direct participation. The Nationwide WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR is celebrating its 29th year and visits an average of 110 cities in over 35 states annually. Since its start, tens of millions of people have seen the B-17, B-24, B-25 & P-51 display at locations everywhere. The WINGS OF FREEDOM tour is one of the most extraordinary and unique interactive traveling historical displays of its kind. The WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR travels the nation as a flying tribute to the flight crews who flew them, the ground crews who maintained them, the workers who built them, the soldiers, sailors and airmen they helped protect; and the citizens and families that share the freedom that they helped preserve. The B-17, B-25 & B-24 were the backbone of the American effort during the war from 1942 to 1945 and were famous for their ability to sustain damage and still accomplish the mission.
Despite the risks of anti-aircraft fire, attacking enemy fighters, and the harrowing environment of sub-zero temperatures, many B-17s and B-24s safely brought their crews home. The P-51 Mustang was affectionately known as the bombers “Little Friend” – saving countless crews from attacking axis fighters. After the war, many aircraft were scrapped for their raw aluminum to rebuild a nation in post-war prosperity and therefore very few were spared. The rarity of the B-17, B-25, B-24 & P-51 - and their importance to telling the story of WWII is why the Collings Foundation continues to fly and display the aircraft nationwide. At each location we encourage local veterans and their families to visit and share their experiences and stories with the public. For aviation enthusiasts, the tour provides opportunity for the museum to come to the visitor and not the other way around! Visitors can find out more by visiting our website at www.collingsfoundation. org. For further information e-mail Jade Nguyen at JadeNguyen@ lyonairmuseum.org or call 714-2104585

THERE’S LOVE IN THE SUMMER AIR AT CASA ROMANTICA
Casa Theater: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Thursday, June 28, 2018 and Friday, June 29, 2018
Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, southern California’s premiere cultural center, is pleased to announce a special two-night run of its 2018 Casa Theater commission: a site-specific performance of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The play will be performed by the Southern California Shakespeare Festival Guild on June 28 and 29, 2018. The Casa Theater series is generously underwritten by Tom and Laura Miller. What is unique about the commissioned play is that it will be performed in the ‘promenade theatre’ genre, which involves moving the audience around to different physical settings on Casa Romantica’s coastal bluff. Promenade theatre pushes boundaries of time and space in a way that can’t be achieved in regular theater. Actors playing multiple roles in the production will stroll with the audience as the natural setting relates to the story. “Casa Theater: A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a unique and interactive performance that is sure to inspire our community,” says Casa Romantica Executive Director Berenika Schmitz. “We are thrilled to have the Southern California Shakespeare Festival Guild as part of our Casa Captivating programming.” A Midsummer Night’s Dream plot & leadership The famous play’s plot revolves around a chaotic night in the woods outside of Athens (Greece), in which young lovers running from the confines of an arrange marriage get mixed up with another young couple, mischievous fairies, the Fairy King and Queen of the forest, and several Athenian workers practicing for a play. “The Southern California Shakespeare Festival Guild’s mission is to celebrate Shakespeare’s timeless classics through performance,” says Guild Artistic Director Linda Bisesti. Bisesti is a professor of acting and voice at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and has also held Guest Artist positions
for Fortune’s Fool Productions of Dublin, Ireland, The Gaiety School of Acting, American Shakespeare Center, and The Actors’ Center in London. Her acting credits also include roles in films and television. “We are thrilled to be returning to magical Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens.” “The Southern California Shakespeare Festival Guild production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream hearkens back to a time of strolling performers. Casa Romantica is the perfect setting for the play,” says A Midsummer Night’s Dream Director Sam Robinson. Robinson is the former Managing Director of Will & Company, an Artist in Residence through the Cultural Affairs Department, a Master Teaching Artist for the Los Angeles Music Center and a faculty member with the Theatre Conservatory at Mayfield Senior School. His work with the Southern California Shakespeare Festival Guild includes directing productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest and The Comedy of Errors. He has also acted in several Guild productions, with major roles in Julius Caesar, Macbeth, and As You Like It. Underwriters The Casa Theater series is underwritten by Tom and Laura Miller. “Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens provides opportunities for all of our community to experience history and culture through art, plays, and music. This work can bring us all together, making Orange County an exemplary community,” says Mr. Miller, who is a Casa Romantica Board Member. All Casa Theater events are familyfriendly and are appropriate for all ages. Non-reserved amphitheater tickets are available for purchase. There will be a cash donation bar for wine and beer ($5) with complimentary light snacks; adults must bring valid ID for the bar. Proceeds support Casa Romantica’s cultural and educational programs. Tickets to each of the Casa Theatre performances are $25 for general
admission and $20 for member admission. Tickets are available for purchase online at www. CasaRomantica.org, by calling (949) 498-2139, or by visiting the institution at 415 Avenida Granada in San Clemente. About Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens maintains a robust series of year-round programs in arts, music, history, horticulture, and literature for all ages. Under the leadership of Executive Director Berenika Schmitz, Casa Romantica has commissioned several critically-acclaimed works, including Casa Coastal: Rebecca Louise Law (2017; visual art), Casa Kinetic: Contemporary Dance Collective (2017; contemporary dance), The Beauty of the Butterfly (2017; visual art), Casa Kinetic: Carrie Lee Riggins (2016; contemporary dance), Casa Drama: Slings & Arrows (2015; theater), and Open Casa: The Photographs of Douglas Kirkland (2015; visual art). The 2017-18 Casa Captivating season includes a new jazz series, visual and performing arts commissions, and an enhanced wellness program. “Casa Romantica strives to be the epicenter for innovative artistic experiences in our southern California community,” says Casa Romantica Executive Director Berenika Schmitz. Casa Romantica also hosts a variety
of free arts education programs for children year-round. The institution’s annual Casa Romantica Music Festival and Academy has received critical praise for its comprehensive two-week music studies program in cello, piano, viola, and violin. Casa Romantica also offers a Summer Dance Workshop, a Spring Break Arts Week, various art, literature, and horticulture events to grades K-12, and welcomes over 2,000 children from the Capistrano Unified School District each year for STEAM-based field trips that examine the history of San Clemente and the coastal environment. Mission Statement: Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and is the historic home of the founder of the City of San Clemente. Casa Romantica provides programs for all ages in arts, music, history, and horticulture and is a premier Southern California cultural center. Photos by: Katya Williams Olive Crest saluted the “Wearin’ of the Green” at its St. Paddy’s Day Celebration for a sold-out crowd of 435 guests on St. Patrick’s Day at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. The festive affair featured lively music by the Irish band Cillian’s Bridge, Irish dancers, whiskey sampling, silent and live auctions, a sit-down dinner and a Golden Ticket opportunity which offered the winner a choice of a live auction item (buyers were the proud wearers of flashing green blinky rings). Former NFL Rams’ star quarterback and ardent community supporter Vince Ferragamo served as master of ceremonies, with Carrie Brock taking the reins as event chair, assisted by former chairs Lorraine Bader and Lori Feeney. Other committee members included Board of Trustees President Steve Bernardy, Vice President Randy Rider, Lori LaPorte, Shelli Zeller, Gabriella Ayerst, Chris Selzer, and honorary chair Diana Casey. Also Olive Crest board member Jim Woodside with mentor Jessica assisting were Olive Crest Founders Dr. Donald and Lois Verleur, CEO Woodside and CEO Donald Verleur Donald Verleur, Executive Director OC Region Kerri Dunkelberger, and Executive Development Director Tim Bauer. Most important was the testimony of a young lady named Helen Wright, who lauded Olive Crest for helping turn her life around. Olive Crest mentor Jessica Woodside, who committed to being a mentor at last year’s gala, spoke glowingly about how her mentee and foster teen Lillie has blessed her life. Olive Crest recognized Applied Medical with its “Champion for the Children Award.” The company has given $99,114 in donations since 2011 to support the children and families of the nonprofit. Applied Medical’s Director of Community Relations, Jenna Hilal, accepted the award. Olive Crest’s volunteer group, Town Gown & Apron, was honored for its more than 25 years of support, contributing nearly $2 million to support Olive Crest’s children. The award was presented to the group’s leader, Diana Casey, who is credited as the backbone and inspirational leader of the group. Dr. David and Diana Casey, Carrie Brock and her husband honoree for her leadership with the The Golden Ticket opportunity drew lots of buyers, as the winner was John Brock Town Gown & Apron support group able to choose one of several live auction items - a Cabo trip, a phenomenal sports package, Del Mar Turf Club, and an Anaheim Angels Club Level Suite opportunity for 12 guests - supporter Lauren Post chose the Angels! Also popular was the $100 opportunity to win an autographed football from Super Bowl XIV by Rams great, Vince Ferragamo. A very happy George DeVries was the winner. Together with auctions, raffle opportunities, underwriting and the “Bid from the Heart” offer, $125,000 in net proceeds was realized for the support of children and families through Olive Crest programs. Since 1973, Olive Crest has transformed the lives of more than 70,000 abused, neglected, and at-risk children and their families. Mother’s Day Proclamation 1870 by Mary Langenback Every one of us has had or has a mother or step mother, at some point in our lives. Mothers day has been celebrated since the early 1900’s. Although my own mother has passed away and I have no children of my own, I still remember her wonderful influence on my life. In celebration of mother’s day I wanted to learn about the history of mother’s day and was surprised to find out that it was originally a woman’s reaction to war. Julia Ward Howe, herself influenced by a one Anna Jarvis who sought to improve sanitation through “Mother’s Work days” in the mid 1850’s. So originally Mother’s day was a day for Mothers to work to improve the lives of those around them. Julia Ward Howe, who lived through the Civil War, saw it as the only way to attempt to stop men from warring with each other. Call it what you will, but her idea was a day of peace. In 1870 she gave a proclamation (Read in full at: http://womenshistory.about.com/ od/howejwriting/a/mothers_day.htm) for women to take counsel together after mourning their dead and to make an attempt to influence those around them, especially their family members, to do all they can to stop war and live at peace with their
brothers and sisters around the globe. It was to be remembered that war has many other side effects than just the funerals during and afterward. There was an emotional effect upon women all over the world, crying for their dead, some who had depended upon those men for support, in societies that do not allow women to work. Some of these women with no men to depend on must get married to men they don’t like, or go into prostitution for survival. The effect also was (and is) economic, men in the 1800’s were the primary bread winners even here in America. Mothers day was first celebrated in a small church, the church in Virginia where Anna Jarvis’ daughter attended. Soon this holiday spread to most of the other 48 continental states. By 1920 it had been celebrated as a national holiday. Slowly, but surely we have stripped it of its original meaning, and have continued to war against ourselves (even our own family members and neighbors) and those of other countries. Even now we are at war in several places in the middle east. Our sons, and husbands, and fathers and lovers have gone off to war and this month we are going to sit at home with those who have stayed behind and celebrate the fact that we, or our relatives and friends,
are mothers. Some husbands and families will cry (inside at least), because now there are some mothers at war. We have come a long, long way and it is so very, very sad to say where we have ended up. We celebrate, adore, worship, and congratulate the mothers, the first time mothers, the oldest mother’s, the youngest mothers and the mothers with the most children. This is not how Mother’s day was supposed to be celebrated. As I said earlier, the original Mothers day was “celebrated” by mothers going out and caring about the health and sanitation of their communities. So, this Mother’s day when you
Mama’s Mama knows best
The millennial mom-to-be uses an app to track her fertility and pregnancy progress, pins nursery ideas on Pinterest and researches baby gear on YouTube. She reads online advice on everything from what to eat (or not), to when to talk to a doctor about prescription prenatal vitamins and what to do with the placenta after delivering. Never without a smartphone in hand, armed with an app for everything, always connected or “on,” millennials were born in an era of emerging technology between 1980 and 1995, and have grown up in an ever-increasing digitally-enhanced environment. Access to technology and social media has defined every aspect of her life, including the Page 14
expectant millennial’s approach to pregnancy. It’s a drastically different world than when her own mother was pregnant. But what does this over-abundance of connectivity and information mean for the digital-savvy millennial momto-be? Per a recent poll, for nearly 60 percent it means there is too much conflicting advice on tips for a healthy pregnancy. In the poll conducted by Exeltis, the company that produces the number one doctor recommended prescription prenatal vitamin, Vitafol, 500 millennials and 500 baby boomers were asked to reveal details on their approach to pregnancy. While sifting through all the information available today was overwhelming to expectant millennials, only 36.2 percent of baby

boomer moms, whose pregnancies were “pre-Google” and social media, felt this way. In addition, in our constantlyconnected world it’s common for people to feel license to dispense unsolicited advice to expectant moms. Twice as many millennial moms report they received advice while they were pregnant that they disregarded or didn’t agree with as compared to baby boomer moms. That’s why it’s no surprise that with so much (often conflicting) soughtout and unsolicited information and advice, 51.8 percent of millennials said they had a hard time deciding which pregnancy advice to believe. “We have so much more information than they did years ago,” said one millennial in the study. “I feel like millennial moms have a lot more pressure placed on them to do everything ‘right.’” Thus, despite the advances in technology that make their pregnancies different (or perhaps, more likely, because of it), millennial moms are turning to their own mothers for advice, even more than their mothers turned to the generation before them. Millennials are using the “Grandma Filter” to essentially qualify and validate information that they are receiving from other sources. In fact, when it comes to preparing for parenting, millennials turn to their mother/mother figure more than any
are buying her gifts and taking her out to dinner, take a long, long look at her. Think of what the world would be without our mothers, without our mother’s love and teaching. Think about what femininity meant to society in the past. It meant a caregiver in the family, a teacher, a spiritual leader, one who would (ideally) teach about peace and brotherhood. Then, talk together, after the younger kids have gone to bed, about how mothers, fathers and possibly what your family can do this next year to influence others to stop war. Lets get back to Julia Ward Howe’s original plea: Disarm! Disarm! or even the 1960’s motto: “Make love, not war”!
other resource on a variety of topics. The “Grandma Filter” is number one when it comes to emotional/family concerns, relationship advice and determining what supplies she will need to register for. And, millennial moms also turn to their mother nearly three times more often than baby boomer moms would have regarding financial concerns in preparing for a new baby. Even though she has so many more resources at her disposal, and she still goes to her doctor, spouse/ significant other and friends and other family members on many matters, the millennial’s increased reliance on her own mother has changed significantly over the years. Still, there are some elements of pregnancy that have remained unchanged. More than half of all millennial and baby boomer mothers polled prepared for pregnancy by taking a childbirth class. More than 97 percent of millennial moms and 92 percent of boomer moms took prenatal vitamins. In addition, 80 percent of both groups recognize prescription prenatal vitamins are the right choice for any pregnant mother. Which all indicates that regardless of when they are pregnant, moms ultimately want what is best for her baby, but deciding what that is might best be determined with a slight tweak to the adage. In fact, “Mama’s MAMA knows best.” - (BPT)

Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts Because Even Mother’s Need to Relax from Time to Time By Amy Brantley Relaxation, it’s not really a word you associate with mothers, is it? It’s time that we change that. This year give your mother a gift that will allow her to relax. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #1: Massage Gift Certificate Mother’s Day is a time for moms to be treated like royalty. One way you can make sure your mother gets treated like royalty is to send her to a spa to get a massage. This is a gift she will love, especially after a hard week of work. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #2: Sleep Mask Sleeping in is a treat that mother’s very rarely get to enjoy. Even when she does get to sleep in, her sleep is usually disrupted by the sun. A wonderful way to avoid this dilemma is to buy her a sleep mask. Then she will be able to sleep in and get that well deserved rest. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #3: Neck Pillow Laying down for a quick nap is a wonderful way to relax, but grabbing
a quick nap on the couch isn’t always comfortable. That’s why this relaxation gift is perfect for your mom. Now it doesn’t matter where she grabs that quick nap as long as she has this gift nearby. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #4: Scented Candles Relaxation is appealing to all the senses, even the sense of smell. I highly suggest getting aromatherapy candles that claim to have relaxing or stress relieving scents. Your mother will love this gift. Even when she’s folding laundry, she can be relaxing. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #5: Relaxing CD A CD that has classical music on it is very relaxing, but a CD that has the sounds of waterfalls, birds, etc is relaxing as well. These CDs are wonderful to play, in the background, while grabbing that quick nap. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #6: Foot Spa This gift is relaxation at it’s finest. Your mother will love getting this gift on Mother’s Day. She can sit and watch TV or even read a book while
getting a wonderful foot massage. You could even include lotion and foot scrub so that she can have a mini pedicure at home. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #7: Coupons for Free Dinners If you live nearby, this makes a wonderful Mother’s Day gift. There may be days when your mother doesn’t feel like cooking. When this happens she could call you up and redeem her coupon. If you give these coupons, I highly suggest you have some easy recipes handy so that you can quickly cook up a fast and delicious meal. Mother’s Day Relaxation Gifts #8: Coupons for Free Cleaning I suggest you live nearby before giving this gift on Mother’s Day. The only reason I say this is because if you live far away, and are only home on holidays, you may be stuck with cleaning up after the holidays, which can be horrible. Of course, you should help out at the holidays, but doing it all yourself is just too much. She will love having these coupons around when she’s not feeling to well.
Time-saving tips so parents can have a little break
You wake up before the sun rises to shower and get ready for the day. Soon you hear the patter of tiny feet upstairs. You get breakfast ready for your little ones and then get them dressed. Between packing bags and preparing lunches, you barely have time to grab breakfast for yourself. You rush out the door just in time to make it to work before that big meeting starts. And all this happens before 8 a.m. Being a parent means juggling not just your own schedule, but those of your children as well. Nearly two in three moms have never taken a day completely for themselves, according to a new survey conducted by Luvs and Wakefield Research. It’s no surprise most parents long for a little breathing room to relax. Fortunately, with these five tips and tricks, you can ease your schedule and save time throughout the day. Use that extra time for something you enjoy, whether it’s watching your favorite TV show, going for a run or sipping a cup of tea while star gazing. Make nap time all about you
If you have small kids, you probably use the few hours they nap to do laundry, clean the house or catch up on emails. Instead, once or twice a week, use the break to do something just for you. Read a book, catch up on the DVR or even step into the shower! In fact, the Luvs survey found that a quarter of moms would simply value an uninterrupted shower versus going to the spa. Simplify diapering Changing diapers throughout the day adds up fast in time and money. Parents can look to avoid leaks while keeping little ones comfortable by using Luvs which are extra absorbent and have large stretch tabs for easy fastening. Visit www.luvsdiapers. com to learn more about Luvs Ultra Leakguards with NightLock Plus. Ready the night before Mornings are hectic for families, and a bad one can really set the tone for the entire day. Save time and eliminate stress by doing as much as possible the night before. Select clothes for kids and yourself, prepare lunches, pack bags and bathe in the
evening. When the alarm goes off, you will be 75 percent ready to go. Cook double batches When you cook twice as much, you cover two meals in the time it takes to make just one. Double the casserole for tonight and freeze half for next week. Cook 2 pounds of chicken so you have lunch for tomorrow in addition to dinner. Double the soup and freeze in individual containers so both you and your partner have
an easy meal you can grab and go. Play date exchange Spearhead a babysitting exchange between you and your parent friends. Offer to bring a few extra kids to the park to give another parent a muchneeded break. Then next week, swap play date duties so you can enjoy a few hours alone. Your kids will love having friends along, while you get precious “me time.” It’s a win-win for everyone. - (BPT)

On April 14th, the Orange County Clerk-Recorder Department hosted its 2nd Annual Passport Day at the Old County Courthouse in Santa Ana. During this event, the department
accepted 179 passport applications and took 114 passport photos. This represents a 113% in-crease in the number of passport applications accepted and an 87% increase in the number of passport photos taken during the depart-ment’s 1st Annual Passport Day last year. The turnout was great and most notably lots of families with children took advantage of this year’s Passport Day. Families and individuals were lining up for the event an hour ahead of opening time. Holding the event on a Saturday makes the passport applications process easier for parents, as both parents must be present to obtain a passport for children younger than 16. “It gives me great pleasure to personally see all the families who turned out for this event,” ClerkRecorder Hugh Nguyen said. “We are here to make it easier for these families and individuals to obtain the services that they need and I really appreciate the turnout and our staff for coming on a Saturday and doing a great job.” The department held its 1st Annual Passport Day last year at the Old County Courthouse. THE PETITION FOR PROBATE requests that RYAN SCHISSLER be appointed as personal representative to administer the estate of the decedent. THE PETITION requests the decedent’s will and codicils, if any, be admitted to probate. The will and any codicils are available for examination in the file kept by the court. THE PETITION requests authority to administer the estate under the Independent Administration of Estate Act. (This authority will allow the personal representative to take many actions without obtaining court approval. Before taking certain very important actions, however, the personal representative will be required to give notice to interested persons unless they have waived notice to consented to the proposed action.) The independent administration authority will be granted unless an interested person files an objection to the petition and shows good cause why the court should not grant the authority. A HEARING on the petition will be held in this court as follows: JUNE 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM in Room. C08, located at 700 CIVIC CENTER DRIVE WEST, SANTA ANA, CA 92701. IF YOU OBJECT to the granting of the petition, you should appear at the hearing and state your objections or file written objections with the court before the hearing. Your appearance may be in person or by your attorney. IF YOU ARE A CREDITOR or a contingent creditor of the decedent, you must file your claim with the court and mail a copy to the personal representative appointed by the court within the later of either (1) four months from the date of first issuance of letters to a general personal representative, as defined in section 58(b) of the California Probate Code, or (2) 60 days from the date of mailing or personal delivery to you of a notice under section 9052 of the California Probate Code. Other California statutes and legal authority may affect your rights as a creditor. You may want to consult with an attorney knowledgeable in California law. YOU MAY EXAMINE the file kept by the court. If you are a person interested in the estate, you may file with the court a Request for Special Notice (form DE154) of the filing of an inventory and appraisal of estate assets or of any petition or account as provided in Probate Code section 1250. A Request for Special Notice form is available from the court clerk. Attorney for Petitioner: GEORGE A. ALSPAUGH, JR., ESQ, ALSPAUGH & ALSPAUGH, 275 EAST DOUGLAS AVE. QUARTER PAGE COLOR This month I have terrific low prices on quarter page full color ad packages. Plus you can choose to either pre pay or pay as you go. But remember these rates apply only if you order this month. Smart business owners and marketing experts agree that the best advertising program is one which brings you clients and customers. Savvy business managers are wise to be concerned about high volume publications that don’t deliver a strong local audience that would generate immediate income for your business. Major daily newspapers like the Times and the Register reach nearly a million readers, but do you really need to pay their high prices to reach your customers in San Clemente, Talega, Dana Point? While some glossy monthly magazines are stylish, their costly rates may not be realistic compared to choosing a highly effective newspaper like these reasonably priced local newspapers which are received by your most likely preferred customers of high income homeowners. This advertising costs you far less money. These five local newspapers are attractive, effective and affordable. Let’s talk today!

We’d like to share some actual quotes from local San Clemente area realtors: “SOLD THE SAME DAY that the ad appeared in the San Clemente News, SOLD THE SAME WEEKEND that the ad appeared in the San Clemente News, BUYERS CAME IN WAVING the ad that appeared in the San Clemente News.” Two factors determine how fast a house will sell: 1.Choose a skilled real estate professional 2. Advertise it in the San Clemente News Whether you are selling homes or other desirable goods or services you should consider the San Clemente news for your advertising. 5. Major daily newspapers like the Times and the Register reach nearly a million readers, but do you really need to pay their high prices to reach your customers in San Clemente. 8. Why do San Clemente Readers read the San Clemente News? In the year 2006, the Superior Court of Orange County adjudicated (approved) The San Clemente News as the official newspaper for San Clemente. That’s why you regularly see stories about the San Clemente City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and prominent San Clemente people in the San Clemente News.
