How to Achieve that Wedding “WOW” Factor By J.C. Meeker Entertainment that will knock the socks off your guests is one of the best ways to leave a lasting impression. A great band or DJ that keeps the guests dancing and enjoying themselves during the reception is key. Although the music is important it’s not the only entertainment that will keep your guests talking about how great your wedding was. Special events such as a funky dance performed by the bridal party, special acts brought in specifically to entertain your guests or a fireworks show can really bring the house down. Outstanding food and drinks is definitely a major way to give your wedding that WOW factor. The fact is people go to weddings not only to share in the beautiful union of two people in love but also to have a great time, good food and drinks. You do not have to have a 7-course meal in order to impress your guests. You can go small with just cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as long as you do it well. Fancy spreads like dessert bars and candy buffets are also a lot of fun. Signature drinks are very popular and you can never go wrong with an open bar. Midnight buffets are becoming increasingly popular and they don’t have to be an extravagant spread of food. Foods you would find on a midnight buffet are your typical bar type foods like chicken fingers, wings, potato skins and other finger type foods. Since your guests usually have been drinking for a while and dinner has been over for hours they tend to get a little hungry so snacks are usually a huge hit. It will also help sober up some of your guests before the party ends. Having a breathtaking décor for your reception that will immediately transport your guests into another world the second they step foot into your venue is something that not only will set the mood for the entire evening but will leave your guests talking about how fabulous your reception was for a long time. Regardless of whether you are having an elegant Tiffany theme, a whimsical Mad Hatter Tea Party or a modern sports themed reception incorporate the theme down to the smallest detail. Filling every aspect of your reception with themed items will contribute to that WOW factor when the guests enter the room. Doing something unexpected will hands down give your wedding that WOW factor! You could have your bridal party walk into the reception singing an upbeat fun song that will set the mood for the entire evening and get your guests pumped up for a great time! Another unique idea is to have the bridal party create a film that shows how the couple met and show it at the reception.

Looking for a yummy, unique way to say “Happy Valentine’s Day”? Beautiful, bite-sized, heart-shaped cakes offer a delicious solution. Whether for your sweetheart, friends or family, or perhaps a special dessert for a romantic dinner, these tiny treats from the Wilton Test Kitchen will delight. Enrobed in pastel icing, decorated with shimmering matching sugar pearls, these little gems are a cinch to make. Use a cake mix for convenience and bake in a petite heart-shaped silicone mold. Cakes pop right out of the mold after cooling (and the silicone is super easy to clean after baking). Icing the hearts couldn’t be simpler, even though it might appear that you need an expert hand. The secret? Ready-to-use decorator icing in a can. Microwave the icing - in the can (one can at a time) - until it reaches pouring consistency, and tint with pastel icing colors. Pour over the cooled cakes to

cover tops and sides, then arrange pearls on top. Perfect, Petite Pastel Hearts look bakery beautiful, but are lovingly homemade. How special is that? For more sensational ideas for Valentine’s Day or other celebrations, visit www.wilton.com. Petite Pastel Hearts Each serves 1 1 package (about 18 ounces) white or yellow cake mix Water, eggs and vegetable oil to prepare mix 4 cans (16 ounces each) White Ready-to-Use Decorator Icing Royal Blue, Rose, Kelly Green and Lemon Yellow Icing Color Green, Yellow, Pink and Blue Sugar Pearls Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray Silicone Petite Heart Mold with veg-

etable pan spray. Prepare cake mix following package instructions. Fill silicone mold cavities 2/3 full. Bake, supported by cookie sheet, 8 to12 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of cakes comes out clean. Cool in mold on cooling grid 15 minutes; remove cakes from mold and cool completely. Repeat with remaining cake batter. Remove lid and foil seal from canned icing. Heat each can in microwave at Defrost (30% power) 20-30 seconds; stir. Repeat until consistency of icing will pour. Stir in icing color. Place cooled cakes on cooling grid positioned over cookie pan. Working with 2 to 3 treats at a time, pour icing on center of cake; continue covering top so icing drips down and covers sides. Let set briefly; position Sugar Pearls before icing sets completely.

Sweet, succulent and with a caramel-like flavor, Medjool dates were once reserved for royalty. But you can delight in these luscious fruits any time and give your Valentine the royal treatment. minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to stand for about one minute, then carefully turn onto a plate. To make the caramel sauce, set saucepan over medium heat and add sugar, cream, vanilla and butter. Cook, stirring often, until sauce comes to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 2 more minutes. While cake is still warm, use a wooden skewer to make holes all over the top of the cake. Pour half of the warm sauce over the warm cake. Garnish with glace cherries, if desired. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Cut into slices and serve with remaining sauce. Serve immediately.

How to Pick Out the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Big Day By Abby Willow The wedding dress decision is perhaps the most nerve-wracking part of the wedding planning for any bride. Trying to find the perfect dress can feel like an uphill battle, but not when you go in with an open mind and a realistic budget to get the dress of your dreams. Here’s how to get the best wedding dress for your big day. The more people you take with you, the more opinions are going to be thrown your way when you’re trying on dresses. To get the dress YOU want, go into the bridal salon alone or with one very good friend who you know has your best interests in mind. Too often, a bride will find the perfect gown only to be swayed into disliking it because her mother, sister, fiance, or friend hated it. It’s your day. Get the dress you want and the more people you leave at home when shopping, the more likely you are to trust your own opinion and instincts. Don’t even bother trying on dresses that are out of your budget. Stick to dresses in your price range. If you don’t, your perfect dress can be one you can’t afford to buy, so every dress you try on thereafter won’t give you that wow factor. Only try on a dress if you know you can afford to buy it, no matter how much you are tempted to upgrade. Be open about styles. What looks terrible on a hanger may suit your body perfectly, and a style you are in love with

might not suit your frame. If you think it even has a chance, try it on. You may be surprised. If you find “the dress”, stop. Right there. Try not one more dress on. You know when you are wearing the dress that makes you feel like a bride the second you see yourself in the mirror. Don’t sway that positive feeling by trying on other dresses “just to be sure”. You are sure. Get the one, and kiss all the other possibilities goodbye. Bring your wedding shoes and jewelry with you if you’ve already purchased them so you can see what they will look like with the dress you choose, and your accessories can help make your selection that much easier. Shoes also help with the alterations of the dress so you can be sure your dress won’t be too short or too long with whatever shoes you have. If you absolutely do not know what you want as far as style, start small. Do you like lace? A full skirt? Are you adverse to strapless? Is your wedding Spring, Fall, Winter, or Summer? Indoors or outdoors? All these little details can help narrow down your choices and make gown selection easier. If you have just ONE gown in mind, start with that style. This way, you know straight off the bat if the mermaid design will work for you, and you can either go with it or venture elsewhere. Try off-white. If none of the classic white

gowns are working for you, it might be the color. Champagne and off-white gowns can make all the difference in style for many brides. You don’t have to go white on your wedding day just because it’s traditional. If you see a gown that you love but you think it won’t look good on you, if it’s in your budget, try it on. You don’t know what it will look like until you see it on your frame. Remember, even the right dress isn’t altered to you perfectly just yet. If a gown is just right but you’re afraid it won’t fit, keep in mind alterations will make it fit you like you were born in it. Don’t try on so many dresses that you

can’t remember a single one, or you become overwhelmed. If you are frustrated after trying on just one dress, stop. Being frustrated and shopping for “the dress” don’t go together. Try on as many as you are positive about, and if you get “the dress” on the first day, good for you. If not, there is always tomorrow. Lastly, remember it’s your day, so get the dress you want. It’s not your future husband’s dress, your best friend’s dress, your mom’s dress, or your sister’s dress. Don’t buy a dress because everyone else likes it. Get it because you love it. It’s your dress. Get the one that feels like it was made just for you.

Wedding Invitations: What’s the Difference Between Flat Printing, Thermography and Engraving? By Bellamy Vaught-Davis Wedding invitation costs for one hundred guests can vary widely--from just around one hundred dollars to several thousand. So, what’s the difference? Aren’t they all just paper and ink? Well, yes...and no. While the type of paper (or cotton, in some cases) can range in thickness, size and quality, there are only four options when it comes to how your invitations will be printed: letterpress, engraving, thermography and flat printing. Just as the quality of paper will affect your final invitation total, the way the invitations are actually printed can mean the difference between a three digit invite bill and a four digit one. Here are the differences in the main types of wedding invitation printing: Letterpress. This process is the oldest, most elegant and most expensive of the three--and for good reason. The wording for each set of invitations is arranged on a press, using the printer’s available fonts. This plate is then inked with the color(s) of ink you want, and the forced under high pressure against the blank invitation paper. The result is a beautiful invitation--you should be able to feel the indented wording after the process has been completed. You’ll need to order a

very heavy paper to create this effect (read: more expensive); thinner papers may tear during the printing process. Engraving. The end result of this process creates an invitation with raised lettering, rather than indented letter in letterpress. The creation process is similar, but even more individualized, as the invitation wording is carved on a metal plate rather than being composed with moveable type as in letterpress. You get to keep the plate at the end of the process, which makes for a neat, if unnecessary, wedding keepsake. The plate is heated behind the paper, forcing the lettering up. At the same time, ink is forced on top of the raised lettering, creating an elegant and distinctive look. This process also requires a heavy paper to withstand the heating and inking process. One benefit? There are far more options on fonts and spacing than with letterpress. Thermography. Are you a champagne bride on a beer budget? Then, thermography may be the ticket for you. This process is highly computerized, which equates to a lower end cost. The wording of your

invitation is placed into the computerized printing system, and the press creates your wording on the paper with a type of very hot adhesive. The ink pigmentation is then forced down onto the adhesive and then quickly dried. The end result is a raised invitation that would fool all but the most seasoned of wedding invitation lovers. You can tell a thermography invite by the shininess of the ink and the lack of indentation on the back of the invite. Flat-printing. The most economical of the four, flat-printing creates an invitation

that is completely smooth on the back and front. The process by which these invites are created are similar to that which occurs on your home computer: ink is laid down in lines or pixels by a printer and then dried. This process allows for the most customization of fonts, colors and spacing since the design is done exclusively on the computer. Happy invitation shopping!

Valentine’s Day Ideas for Guys Valentine’s Day. It’s a day when guys pull out all the stops in love and women enjoy the ride! Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity for guys showcase their most creative and romantic appreciation for their mates. Anyone can simply go out for a nice dinner and nightcap, but guys will win extra ‘awww’ points with women if they take it a step beyond the norm and get creative with their Valentine’s Day plans. Women like to feel special and unique as opposed to a cliche or societal norm. As I have learned from countless causual conversations with women, they really do appreciate when a man goes above and beyond to impress them on days like this. Check out these 5 great ideas that are sure to sweep to anyone woman off her feet on this romantic day!

1. Candlelight Dinner - How easy is it for you to just pick a woman up and whisk her away to a nice romantic restaurant for dinner where you don’t have to lift a finger?! Instead, show your lady that you put some real thought, effort, and energy into the occasion. Surprise her by cooking one of her favorite meals and enjoying it by candlelight. This is not only a great way to show off your cooking skills but also to showcase how great of a catch you really are when you combine great conversation into the mix. To really make it romantic, dress up as if you were taking her out, splash on that cologne she loves so much, and have a small surprise gift waiting for her at the end of dinner. 2. Romantic Scavenger Hunt Want to take Valentine’s Day to the next level? Try leading your lady on a romantic scavenger hunt throughout the day that ends with a jaw dropping surprise. You can start the scavenger hunt by sending her surprise flowers to work (yes her job so everyone, not just her, can see where you’re going with this idea). Include a mysterious

you want to sweeten the deal buy her a nice comfortable pair of pajamas to lounge around in with you. Wear your most comfortable pj’s as well. Sometimes there’s nothing better than lounging around in comfy pj’s with your woman watching TV and enjoying each other’s company. Simple and sweet. There you have it, 5 great Valentine’s Day ideas to show your lady how much you care. These ideas will require a little thought, good planning, and a little extra effort. In the end when you look into her eyes, she flashes that million watt smile, and she tells you how much she loved everything, and plants a big wet one on you, you will know how much you made her day. Lastly and most importantly no matter what you do treatment. Follow this up with a nice for your lady on Valentine’s Day, be romantic dinner and it will be you who sure to look her in her eyes and tell ends up getting a surprise at the end. her how much you love, appreciate, and adore her with the utmost sincer-

note that begins the scavenger hunt with a few vague instructions for her to follow so it leads to the next part of the scavenger hunt. Make sure your notes and instructions are very short with concrete details, times, and/or locations, etc. Ex. 1219 Rose Street Downtown 4pm ask for John. As you ‘anonymously’ reveal more details throughout the day, her heart will be racing with anticipation and she will be kept on her toes waiting to see what you’re going to do next. To you psych majors, when you keep a woman guessing in a positive light about you the more her interest level in you will go up. Waaay up. 3. Massage/Spa Date - It’s no secret that women love to be pampered. Hair, nails, skin, you name it they do it. Why not surprise your lady with a romantic day at the best spa in town. Let her get everything she’s ever wanted at a spa all in the same day. She will definitely appreciate this gesture from you. Her stresses, worries, and negative energy will all melt away in these moments which will help her to relax. To make it really enjoyable, join her in the spa

4. Inside Picnic - Don’t have a lot of money to spend or don’t know your way around the kitchen? Having an indoor picnic is a great idea that guys can do for their ladies on Valentine’s Day. Make sure it’s done right: a picnic blanket and a basket of food, drinks, and some of her favorite sweet goodies should do the trick. To really kick it up a notch, light some scented candles, sprinkle the surrounding area with rose petals, and have some soft music playing in the background to make the mood even more romantic.

ity. When she hears this, it’s almost certain she’ll be head over heels or remember why she fell in love with you to begin with. Remember guys, women fall in love between their ears not their eyes.

5. Movie Night - Not too creative? Light in the wallet? There’s still hope for you. Invite your lady over, order in, and snuggle up for the night and watch some of her favorite movies. Yes that means the chick flicks. If The San Clemente News

Valentine Sayings About Love By David Searm Mere words put together, when expressed with love and profound emotions transpire into “notes of love”. They are simple yet all expressive, all romantic! You know it when you see the spark in your lover’s eyes, their radiant smile as you read out one on a silent evening. Valentine sayings are exactly that. Put together your feelings into words and weave a line or two on it! Not that you always have to croon your own thoughts into lines. Writers, poets and thinkers across the ages have written about love in abundance. You can seek inspiration from them and write your own notes. Else you can simply quote a line or two from Valentine Sayings written by eminent writers. A simple valentine saying not only serenades love and your beloved, but also expresses your thoughts. Pick up the ones that suit you best. Make a scroll and scribble few lines on it to give it a “Romeo-Juliet” feel. Else writing on a parchment or a greeting card is just perfect. “Love is a many splendid thing. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is love!” from Moulin Rouge (movie)

I’m one of the famous writers from mydearvalentine. I use to write on various love and Valentine Day Recipes topics like Valentine Sayings, Valentine Quotes and Love Quotes. Know more about Valentine Day 2011 from mydearvalentine.com “Other men said they have seen angels/ But I have seen thee/And thou art enough.” By G. Moore “Soul meets soul on lover’s lips” by Percy Bysshe Shelly “When you love someone, all your saved-up wishes start coming out.” By Elizabeth Bowen “I love you - those three words have my life in them” by Alexandrea to Nicholas III ~ “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn/ Is to love and be loved in return.” From “Unforgettable with Love” by Natalie Cole “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” By Aristotle “What I do and what I dream include thee, as the wine must taste of its own grapes...” by Elizabeth Barret Browning “She walks in Beauty, like the night/ of cloudness climes and starry skies, And all that’s best of dark and bright/ Meet in her aspect and her eyes...” By Lord Byron

“Love distills desire upon the eyes; love brings bewitching grace into the heart.” By Euripides “What I feel for you seems less of earth and more of a cloudless heaven.” By Victor Hugo “Two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that beat as one.” By John Keats “Love is the enchanted dawn of every heart.” By Alphonse Marie de la Martine “Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.” By Alexander Smith “The more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite.” By William

Shakespeare “I am my beloved, and my beloved is me.” From the Song of Solomon “To love is to receive a glimpse of heaven.” By Karen Sunde “Love is something eternal; the aspect may change, but not the essense.” By Vincent van Gogh “Here are fruits, flowers, leaves, and branches, And here is my heart which beats only for you.” By Paul Verlaine When you want to say more and you are wondering how, share a romantic Valentine saying with your partner. Let it work out the fairytale romance for you!

The History of Valentine’s Day: Who was St. Valentine? By Scott Brodie This history of Valentine’s Day is shrouded in mystery. While every February 14, Valentine’s Day, couples send romantic Valentines, no one knows the true history of Valentine’s Day. Many believe the history of Valentine’s Day can be found in the question, “Who was Saint Valentine?” The Roman Catholic Church has three saints named Valentine, or Valentinus. Of these three, the history of Valentine’s Day supposedly honors the first Saint Valentine. So, who was Saint Valentine? Saint Valentine was a third-century priest in Rome. He was martyred. Any further answer to, “Who was Saint Valentine?,” is speculation. Yet, there are three theories about the history of Valentine’s Day. Each attempts to answer, “Who was Saint Valentine?” Who Was Saint Valentine? A Priest Marrying Couples. According to this theory on the history of Valentine’s Day, Saint Valentine was a priest during Emperor Claudius II’s reign. Because Claudius II believed single men were better soldiers than married men, he outlawed marriage for young men. Saint Valentine did not adhere to Claudius II’s proclamation, however, and continued to perform marriages in secret. When he was discovered, Page 14

Saint Valentine was imprisoned and sentenced to death. Who Was Saint Valentine? A Priest Freeing Christians. Another theory about the history of Valentine’s Day contends that Saint Valentine was sentenced to death for free Christians from Roman prisons. This is the least romantic history of Valentine’s Day, but it portrays Saint Valentine as a heroic and strong figure. Who Was Saint Valentine? The First Valentine. According to this romantic theory of the history of Valentine’s Day, Saint Valentine sent the first valentine. He supposedly fell in love while imprisoned. Perhaps it was the jailor’s daughter who he loved. Whoever the lady was, he sent her a letter signed, “From your Valentine.” The truth is, no one can answer, “Who was Saint Valentine?” Since it remains unknown, the question for today is not, “Who was Saint Valentine?” Rather the question is, “Who is Saint Valentine now?” Whoever he was, Saint Valentine is remembered as a strong, heroic and romantic figure. It is no wonder lovers have been sending love letters in his name, as valentines, ever since the Middle Ages.
