Turn your fantasy fairytale wedding into reality
Every girl dreams of her fantasy wedding. It usually includes a Prince Charming standing next to her at the altar, saying “I do,” while surrounding by friends and family in a fairytale atmosphere. Now it’s time to turn that fantasy dream into reality. And while Prince Charming has been replaced with Mr. Right, the rest of the fairytale
doesn’t have to change. Every bride should feel like a princess, and here are some ways to pull off the special wedding: * The dress: The right wedding dress and accessories can make any bride look like a princess. A strand of pearls around the neck for a Cinderella look or a long, decorative braid down one side of the head completes the Rapunzel look. Many brides love the look of a simple tiara woven into an elegant hairstyle. And the dress can have a full or puffy skirt, or long flowing tresses to really bring out the princess style. Disney also has a collection of designer princess cut dresses based on several of the Disney princesses. * The invitations: Set the tone for your fairytale wedding right from the start with Disney Princess Wedding Invitations from Invitations by Dawn. The collection features eight elegant princess invitations inspired by Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Tiana and Snow White. You’ll love the deep embossing, the shimmer paper and the raised print that looks like an invitation from royalty. The flowers and motifs will capture the eyes
of your guests and evoke a sense of fairytale nostalgia, having them anticipating the wedding itself. * The decorations: Shimmery gossamer, twinkle lights and decorative candles provide beautiful touches to help make the fairytale a reality when it comes to your wedding and reception. If you are a crafty person, use DIY crafting sites like Pinterest to find centerpiece and table decoration ideas you can make yourself. Also ask your florist and cake decorator if they have any suggestions on decorating your reception and the wedding hall in a fairytale theme. They may suggest
a fountain centerpiece, or creating a forest backdrop behind the cake to help enhance the theme. If you’ve been dreaming about your wedding for many years, you probably already have some ideas for those special romantic touches that will make your wedding memorable and special. Share those ideas with the wedding specialist helping you plan your special day, and let the magic happen. Your guests will be awed by how you pulled together the entire fairytale theme, from the invitations to the special gifts they’ll take home to remember your special day. -(BPT)

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes moving into a new house. The big move often comes after the big day. Whether you’re moving in together for the first time or you’re saying goodbye to your tiny apartment and moving into a starter home, it’s an exciting - and often expensive - time. Consider these tips to help streamline your move and save you money so you can fully enjoy the honeymoon phase in your new home sweet home: Purge, sell and save Did you receive new dishes or cookware as a wedding gift? You can probably ditch your old set. Host a garage sale or sell items you don’t need online to make some cash while reducing goods you have to move. Alternatively, donate to a local nonprofit and take the tax write off at the end of the year. Determine what size moving truck you’ll need
A good rule is to plan for 150 cubic feet of space for every fully furnished room. Many young couples moving from a small apartment or condo into a larger first home will find a 12- or 16-foot Penske rental truck adequate. Plan to reserve your truck at least two weeks in advance. Ask about discounts when reserving; Penske Truck Rental offers rental discounts for AAA members. Be thoughtful of wedding gifts Did you receive gift cards for your wedding? Wait until after you move to spend them so you don’t have to haul extras. For the wedding gifts you received, try to keep them in the original boxes for extra protection. Start early and pack smart Get sturdy boxes of various sizes and fill them with similar items. Label each box with the contents and room name. Make sure you have plenty of packing bubbles and towels to wrap breakable items. Finally, tape boxes
securely before transport. Ask for help Ask friends to help carry and pack boxes. A move is a great reason to get the wedding party together one more time. If something is particularly heavy, there’s no shame in enlisting professionals for help to prevent injury. Loading the truck Load large items like beds and couches into the truck first to ensure a safe and secure fit. Next, load the heaviest boxes on the bottom and then place lighter boxes on top. Need help planning? Penske’s Truck Wizard application makes packing a breeze. When the big move follows the big day, there’s no need to stress. With a little strategic planning, you’ll save time and money while ensuring all your belongings arrive at your new home safely. - (BPT)

4 wine buying tips for weddings
Traditional wedding rules have fallen by the wayside - food trucks are in, having a hashtag is a must, bridesmaids no longer wear the same dress and groomsmen are sometimes in sneakers. Couples are actively seeking ways to differentiate themselves and get creative. All that aside, there is one thing that remains constant - weddings must have wine.
Without wine, there is no glass to raise during the toast to the bride and groom and nothing to drink when the bar closes during dinner. Wine is the first thing guests are offered when they take a seat, and - you know that they say - it’s important to make a good first impression. Choosing the right varietals for your wedding does not have to be a
stressful endeavor. Whether you’re a novice wine drinker or a connoisseur, follow these four tips and you’ll please a crowd without spending a fortune: Say “cheers!” with a sparkling wine. People love a good toast, and nothing washes down a teary maid of honor speech like a glass of sparkling. Riondo Prosecco is an accessible
option that’s ideal to enjoy any day of the year, but perfectly suited for special occasions. You’ll get six pours out of a bottle, so plan accordingly! Good things come in threes. In addition to a sparkling, you’ll want a red and a white option that are familiar and food-friendly. You can’t go wrong with a Merlot - look for labels from the Napa region. For a white, Terlato Friuli Pinot Grigio is exceptional and ideal for food pairing. Wine math: What you didn’t learn in school. Running out of wine mid-wedding isn’t an option, so it’s important to do the math. You should anticipate getting about 5 glasses per bottle and assume that each guest will drink one glass per hour. Follow this rule and the wine will flow all night long, keeping you and your guests happy. Don’t break the bank, but stay away from the cheap stuff. Choosing an excellent wine doesn’t mean paying top-dollar, but buying too cheap can mean sacrificing quality. There are countless high-quality, delicious, wines available for $10-$20 per bottle, so leave the cheap stuff on the bottom shelf! -(BPT)
Shedding for the wedding: Your 3-month guide
The dress, the tux, the guests, the honeymoon - there are so many details that go into your wedding day. All eyes are on you from the moment you walk down the aisle until the last dance of the night. Understandably so, brides and grooms often feel a lot of pressure to look their best on this important day - there’s nothing like a wedding to motivate you to get serious about your health and fitness goals. But crash diets or extreme exercise programs are never the answer. “It’s usually best to start thinking about your specific goals three months before your wedding day to allow plenty of time to establish your routine and adjust to a healthier lifestyle,” says Steve Bronston, certified personal trainer with Life Time, a healthy way of life company that operates more than 115 health and wellness centers nationwide. “This creates a great opportunity for the bride and groom to support each other and get in shape together.” Bronston and Life Time offer a threemonth countdown plan to get you ready for the big day: Weeks 1-4 Focus on changing your unhealthy habits. Nutrition is key when trying to lose weight, decrease body fat and increase your overall health. Work with a professional to lay out a Page 6
detailed nutrition plan that consists of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats at each meal. Then, begin with a fitness program that incorporates weight training and cardio intervals. Arm exercises like overhead press, tricep push-ups and bicep curls, and back exercises like rows and rear flys help brides looking to tone up for a strapless or low-back dress. Bronston suggests starting with two or three days of weight training, two or three days of cardio and one day of Pilates or yoga. Weeks 5-8 Now it’s time to switch up your
The San Clemente News
exercise routines. It’s a good idea to work with a personal trainer or join a group fitness class once or twice a week to shake up your routine and stay motivated. Your workouts should include one to two weight training exercises per body part throughout the week. If you can, try to shift the amount of weight you use and number of repetitions you do to help stimulate change within your body. Continue a cardio routine of two to three days per week and add in another day or Pilates or yoga. Weeks 9-12 It is important to keep up with your
developing healthy habits as the weeks progress, but as your wedding day approaches, you’re sure to feel the stress of planning. “A new focus on rest and relaxation during this time period is key,” Bronston says. You can eat well and exercise perfectly, but without sleep, stretching, rest and recovery, your body is at risk of not functioning properly. Planning a wedding can be stressful and tiresome, but if you commit to a healthy diet and fitness plan, you’ll walk down the aisle feeling confident and ready for your new life ahead. -(BPT)

Beat planning pressure: 5 tips for an intimate wedding The terms wedding and money go hand in hand. The average wedding cost is now up to $31,213 according to theknot.com, and that’s not even including the honeymoon. Because of increasing costs, more and more couples are looking to plan a smaller, more intimate ceremony. While there’s no universal way to define a small wedding, it typically involves a limited gathering of family and close friends. No matter the size of your guest list, you’re bound to feel the stress of planning as you want your day to be perfect. But opting for a modest-sized wedding opens the door to endless options and possibilities. Here are some tips for making your small-scale wedding the event of the year: Whittle down your guest list If you can keep your guest count low, the cost for just about everything you need for your wedding will significantly decrease. There’s always going to be more guests you could invite, but if you’re making a point to have a small wedding, people will be understanding. Set limits and stick to them. Rent what you can Rental stores offer a wide range of products to fit weddings of any size or theme. A smaller wedding opens up your options when it comes to venue and personalization. You’ll likely need tables and chairs, tents, a dance floor and maybe even china, tableware and linens. Start by searching on RentalHQ.com to find a store for all
your decorating and setup needs. Keep the menu simple One of the biggest costs of a wedding is the food, so try to shy away from extravagant and fancy menu items. All you need are a few key dishes and one or two desserts to keep everyone satisfied. Your guests aren’t coming to ogle over a lavish spread, they simply want to be there to celebrate with the happy couple. Stick to your budget Create a budget using money you
already have in the bank. There’s no need to go into debt when planning an intimate wedding. If you have $1,000 to spend, then plan a $1,000 wedding. If you stick to a moderate budget, you’re more likely to keep the planning and actual event in control. Think outside the box A small wedding may require a bit of strategic thinking and DIY projects. For example, you can make your own invitations and party favors to not only save money, but to reflect your unique
personality as a couple. You can also get creative with the venue, like a small bed and breakfast, restaurant or historic home. There’s no need to book an entire banquet hall. Let these straightforward ideas take some of the stress out of your wedding planning. After all, your wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest occasions. For more wedding planning tips and helpful options visit rentalhq.com/weddings. - (BPT)
Three unique ways to help kids embrace a blended family About 1,300 new stepfamilies form each day in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And of the 60 million American children younger than 13, half are currently living with one biological parent and that parent’s partner. As a result, couples are trying to find ways to include their stepchildren in the marriage ceremony and commemorate the union of all members of the new blended family. Andy Netzel of Geneva, Ohio, turned to Things Remembered, the nation’s leading retailer of personalized gifts, to find something unique and meaningful to commemorate the special day he married his wife,
Margie, and became stepfather to Emily, 4. During the couple’s ceremony, instead of naming Andy and Margie husband and wife, Pastor Michael Meranda paused after the couple kissed and asked Emily to step forward. The couple hadn’t prepared the little girl for this moment. If she knew about it ahead of time, they knew she’d be anxious throughout the entire ceremony. Andy took the microphone and told his stepdaughter-to-be that it wasn’t just he and Margie who were joined, but rather all three of them. He opened a jewelry box with a Things Remembered bracelet inside. It was engraved with “Mom, Emily, Andy.” “To me, this wasn’t just about Margie and I getting married. This was a lifelong commitment to our new family,” he says. “Margie had a ring. I wanted Emily to have something she could remember this day by, even when she was getting married herself.” It appears to have worked. Emily now refers to the wedding day as “the day we all got married.” Personalized treasures More couples are turning to personalized gifts to commemorate the occasion, says Amy Myers, vice president of Creative Services at Things Remembered. The retailer has seen a steady increase in the number of couples coming in to commemorate the occasion. “We began noticing couples using commemorative gifts about
10 years ago,” Myers says. “Our store managers were the ones who pointed it out to us. We began including engraving suggestions for stepfamilies about five years ago. We have a lot of people come in, not knowing exactly what to say.” Myers says the message seems to drive the gift. Once they find the right words, finding a gift is usually the easy part. Community bricks Many families have also purchased engraved “community bricks” to honor the day they became an official family. Bricks can be purchased through churches, schools, civic organizations or even to support a special landmark that is special to the family. Online retailer, Cut In Stone, specializes in engraved bricks of all shapes, sizes and materials. The symbolism of creating a cornerstone to celebrate the day a blended family came together has a powerful impact, as does the permanence of placing the brick in a prominent part of the community. Many families make a family event out of visiting the location of their brick on their anniversary. When purchasing a brick, families should inquire about purchasing a second one to keep in addition to the one that becomes part of the community landscape. Handwritten letters Some stepparents use the occasion to create a time capsule of sorts with a handwritten letter. In addition to writing a letter to the child about the formation of their family, stepparents
can write about what this new family means to them and their hopes for their future together. This further emphasizes the transformation from a couple to an official family. The letters are often stored in a special box with a few photos and other mementos from the wedding day. Even if the child is quite young on the wedding day, they’ll see the effort that went into making them a big part of that day - and the couple’s life. Just as a first-time wedding is cause for celebration, the coming together of two people and their children to create a blended family is an extraordinarily special event. By taking a moment to recognize and pay tribute to the children in a blended family, couples help children realize they are not losing a parent, but rather gaining another person or group of people to love and support them throughout their future.

The Royal Swedish Ballet Performs Mats Ek ’s ‘Juliet and Romeo ’ at Segerstrom Center
By Lydia E. Ringwald Photos by: Gert-Weigelt Choreographer Mats Ek’s dramatic version of ‘Juliet and Romeo’ visits Segerstrom Center in a Royal Swedish Ballet production June 1012. ‘Juliet and Romeo, a spin in reverse on the Shakespearean ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ is a visceral, rendition of the classic story set in an urban gang empire, a gritty surreal cityscape, suspended in time and place. The message is always the same, whether the conflict is set in Renaissance Verona or the Middle East, a recent zone of conflict that Mats Ek revealed in a program note was the inspiration for his contemporary ballet version of the famous Shakespearean tragedy. The twisted title, placing Juliet first, echoes the famous final lines of the Shakespearean drama, ‘Never was there a tale of more woe, than that of Juliet and her Romeo.’ Shakespeare may have reversed the order so that ‘Romeo’ would rhyme with ‘woe.’ Mats Ek seems to have reversed the title to emphasize Juliet’s personal power. The daring young Juliet is willing to violate social taboos to be with the man she loves and assert her leadership in a relationship that defies a senseless family vendetta. The supporting characters that surround the ‘star-crossed lovers’ spin in an urban ambiance where stark sets are matched with a motley mix of street people fashion. In the love scene, Juliet’s transparent gown expresses the naked authenticity of her emotion and in the finale; tattoos and slashes of red fabric mark her fate. Tchaikovsky’s searing score forms the magical cadenza that transports movement at lyrical moments of love, but conflicts in stark contrast in the ballet’s brutal moments of violence. Mats Ek reinterprets the role of the ‘Nurse’ in his contemporary ballet version of the Shakespearean tragedy. Rather than staged as comedic servant figure, Ek reinvents the ‘Nurse’ role to express the noble, nurturing and loving aspects of a
woman who is the true mother of Juliet. In contrast to Juliet’s parents, the cold and controlling Capulets, who insist on a politically correct marriage with a calculating suitor, Mats Ek’s ‘Nurse’ expresses not only emotional resonance and humanity but also earthy energy when she dances vigorously with the young ‘boyz in the hood’ to deliver Juliet’s message to Romeo. Ballet superstar Ana Laguna performs the ‘Nurse’ role in two performances of the June 10-12 run. The Spanish-Swedish ballet dancer, who has partnered with legends the magnitude of Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov and performed on the greatest stages throughout the world, descends onto the Segerstrom stage for the first time. Laguna’s illustrious career has included performances with the Nederlands Dans Theater and Cullberg Ballet in roles choreographed by Birgit Cullberg, Maurice Bejart and Mats Ek, whom she married. It was her stunning performances in Mats Ek’s ‘ St. George and the Dragon’ and ‘Carmen’ that earned her world recognition. I had the good fortune of seeing Ana Laguna perform the role of ‘Carmen’ in Mats Ek’s intriguing avant-garde choreography of the classic at the Opera de Monte Carlo in Monaco. Early in her career, Laguna thrilled audiences with her visceral interpretation of Carmen, the cigarette girl and smuggler, whose defiant and independent character scandalized opera society when composer Bizet first introduced her to the world. Meeting Ana Laguna backstage in the rehearsal space of the Opera de Monte Carlo, sharing an evanescent moment, Ana smiled at my suggestion that in honor of her namesake ‘Laguna,’ she someday visit Laguna Beach California. After all of these years, Ana Laguna and her husband Mats Ek are welcomed to Orange County’s Segerstrom Center with the Royal Swedish Ballet performance of
‘Juliet and Romeo.’ Perhaps she, Mats Ek and the Royal Swedish Ballet dancers will have a chance to visit Laguna and enjoy the California Riviera, our distant coastline, and enchanted parallel to the magical French Riviera and Monte Carlo. The artistic culture and rich history of the Opera de Monte Carlo is a never-ending inspiration. This is the famous Garnier designed theater where impresario Serge Diaghilev often assembled and showcased from 1909-1929 stellar talent Nijinsky, Picasso, Stravinsky, Matisse, Bakst, Debussy, Cocteau for his fabulous Ballet Russe. This theater with casino, adjacent to the Hotel de Paris, is where fashion designer Coco Chanel stayed and wrote checks to support Diaghilev’s fantastic ballets. In 1924, Diaghilev with Cocteau’s scenario produced
the ballet ‘Le Train Bleu’ with dancers costumed in Chanel’s revolutionary swimwear line. The Opera de Monte Carlo was also one of the locations in the 1948 Hollywood movie, ‘The Red Shoes,’ where ballet star Moira Shearer, in red ballet shoes spins from the theater stage onto terrace overlooking the Monte Carlo bay and down the steps. This weekend, the Segerstrom Center spins again with energy and enchantment into the whirling fantasy of stages throughout the world as Ana Laguna and the Royal Swedish Ballet performing Mats Ek’s ‘Juliet and Romeo.’ For tickets and further information about the Royal Swedish Ballet’s performance of ‘Juliet and Romeo’ at Segerstrom Center, please visit www.scfta.org.

Starting off with a networking cocktail party, the 250 guests were then escorted to the Samueli Theater for dinner and the awards program. Folks enjoyed hearts of palm and avocado salad with citrus, cucumber, radish, petite herbs and citrus vinaigrette for starters. The main course consisted of a duet of beef tenderloin and barramundi with fingerling potatoes, zucchini blossom tempura, baby squash and zucchini, olive jus and roasted pepper gremolata. Dessert was scrumptious with your choice of either a dark caramel mousse, flourless cake, crème fraiche Chantilly, with a passion fruit gel - or a Yuzu parfait, Earl Gray Chantilly with seasonal citrus, citrus confit. Of course there was some dessert swapping going on! Zelma “Zee” M. Afterwards, everyone was guided to the Segerstrom Hall where singersongwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jackson Browne delighted everyone with a private concert. The evening ended with a post-performance party on the Arts Plaza featuring Nicholas David of NBC’s hit talent show, The Voice. The Center continues to build upon its role as a civic partner and to establishing new cultural, educational and community partnerships to serve all of Orange County’s many diverse communities. expert tips for an affordable and memorable destination wedding
A flurry of congratulatory phone calls, social media announcements and sparkling ring pictures all mean one thing: engagement season has arrived. With approximately 39 percent of marriage proposals taking place between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day, engaged couples are taking note of one of the fastestgrowing nuptial trends - destination weddings. These days, one in four weddings is a destination wedding, giving couples - and their guests - a reason to blend the joy of a marriage celebration with a fun and memorable vacation. Planning a destination wedding suitable for all your attendees is easier than you think, thanks to some key insights from Myrtle Beach-based expert wedding planner, Cheryl Cox. 1. Plan ahead Cox says nine to 12 months is the optimum planning time, especially for a destination wedding. Many couples start planning a destination wedding as soon as they get engaged. While the summer months are typically most popular for couples, when choosing a date, Cox recommends considering a Friday or weekday wedding, or planning the big day during the less-crowded but still desirable shoulder seasons (spring
and fall). 2. Select a destination that caters to all guests Consider a location with something for everyone. Myrtle Beach, S.C., is the perfect example. The destination offers pristine greens for golf enthusiasts, museums and historic plantations for cultural buffs, delicious Coastal Carolina cuisine for the foodies, fun in the sun with a day at the beach or one of the many water parks, and for brides looking for some quality time with the girls, numerous spas for a day of pampering. Plus, there are plenty of lodging options for your guests including oceanfront resorts, beach home rentals and quaint bed and breakfasts. 3. Research ceremony locations Beautiful and unique ceremony locations are one of the perks of having a destination wedding. “Research wedding venues, travel and accommodation options, and rates, then rank the venues you like best,” suggests Cox. As a Myrtle Beach wedding planner, she notes that the area’s 60 miles of stunning coastline make the perfect romantic backdrop. Whether you’re looking for a beachside wedding outside a charming beach home or at the Myrtle Beach State Park, or a historic location like Litchfield Plantation or Pine Lakes
Country Club, there are countless ceremony locations to choose from. You can even tie the knot 200 feet above the ground on the Myrtle Beach Skywheel. Visit www.visitmyrtlebeach.com for more information. 4. Help guests plan activities Travel is the foundation for longlasting memories. In fact, a recent Harris Interactive survey found 62 percent of adults said their earliest memories were of family vacations taken when they were between ages 5 and 10. Help your guests - particularly families with young ones - get the most out of their trip by suggesting activities or even making reservations for dinners, tee times, theme parks, museums, etc., before arrival. 5. Hire a wedding planner Planning a destination wedding doesn’t need to be stressful - hire a wedding planner. “Wedding planners know the local wedding professionals and venues including the city regulations for beach weddings,” says Cox. The perfect beach wedding can be accomplished with the help of a wedding planner as they know the ins and outs of planning a beautiful beach wedding so couples and their guests can enjoy the true beauty of a beachside wedding. 6. Consider a pre-wedding visit “If possible, attend a local wedding
show to meet wedding professionals one-on-one or plan a ‘wedding planning trip’ to visit venues and meet with wedding vendors,” Cox suggests. “Remember to take notes so you can recall all the details when you’re back home.” 7. Get wedding insurance Give yourself peace of mind by purchasing the appropriate wedding insurance. And, Cox notes, “Research to find the best coverage for your wedding - I highly recommend it.” 8. Be mindful of budget Start your marriage off on the right financial foot by keeping your wedding on-budget. Many couples planning destination weddings find them to be similar or even more affordable than traditional weddings back home. Myrtle Beach offers a variety of wedding venue options at various price points, so you can have your dream beach wedding and still stay on a budget. 9. Enjoy! This is perhaps the most important step of all. Don’t forget to enjoy the experience of planning this memorable day and enjoying the company of your guests. Take pictures, sample cakes, pick out flowers and remember these moments and the beautiful destination you selected.

5 simple steps to creating g i f t b a s k e t s th at r o ck Graduations, weddings, birthdays, office celebrations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and barbecues - spring and summer are full of occasions that cry out for a great gift basket. A big basket bursting with a bounty of goodies can be costly, however, if you buy a pre-made one. Worse yet, store-bought baskets can be predictable and impersonal. Creating your own gift basket can save you money, allow you to really personalize your gift and be as much fun to make as they are to receive! Not sure how to start? Follow these simple steps to create gift baskets that work for every occasion: First, pick a personalized theme. Store-bought gift baskets can be pretty homogenous - snacks, beverages, candy, etc. Instead of going with a predictable theme, think about the recipient’s favorite activities or hobbies. Choosing a theme that’s meaningful for the recipient personalizes the gift basket and will help you brainstorm just what items to include. Here are four theme ideas to help you get started creating amazing, personalized gift baskets this spring and summer: * Spice of life - Your giftee doesn’t have to be a foodie to appreciate a basket of spices that will add flavor and excitement to any dish. Frontier Co-op can help you make your own personalized spice blend to be the star of a gift basket full of seasonings and cooking accessories. Frontier Co-op’s website even has a downloadable label you can print to place on the bottle. Try their recipe for Spicy Buffalo Popcorn Seasoning: Ingredients: 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon Frontier Organic Cayenne (according to heat level desired) 1/2 to 1 teaspoon Frontier Organic Paprika 1 teaspoon Frontier Celery Salt 1/2 teaspoon Frontier Sea Salt 3 tablespoons Frontier White Cheddar Cheese Powder Directions: Mix spices and place in an airtight jar or tin. * Go team, go! - Of course, teamthemed items are a must for a sports-themed gift basket, but don’t forget to include all the extras that make watching the game so much fun. In addition to a new mitt and cap, baseball fans might appreciate Page 16
a gift certificate to the best hot dog joint in town. A beer-of-the-month membership certificate and team jersey work great for football fans. * Movie night at home - Packets of gourmet microwave popcorn, all the accoutrements you need to make a rootbeer float, and a gift card for DVD rentals are sure to please every film fan. * Tea for two - For the sophisticated tea-lover, a basket of accessories like a tea infuser and teapot cozy are ideal. Boost the appeal with a selection of bulk teas packaged in beautiful or themed glass jars - it’s a great way to treat your tea lovers to all their favorites while introducing them to new varieties, too. Once you’ve chosen a theme, it’s time to pull the basket together with these simple steps: 1. Set a budget - It’s easy to get carried away when you’re buying items to put in a gift basket and overspend. It’s just as easy to under purchase, ending up with a skimpy, unsatisfying basket. Setting a budget will help you know just how much you can and should buy. 2. Make a list - Once you’ve decided on a theme, write a list of items that fit that theme. Keep in mind list items should easily fit in a basket or other container. Organize your list with one or two centerpiece, must-have items at the top and would-like-tohave items in descending order of desirability. 3. Choose a unique container - Yes, it’s called a gift basket, but you don’t have to stick with a traditional wicker basket. Choose a container that really fits your theme. For example, a decorative plastic flower pot is a great container for a gardening lover’s basket. Your sports enthusiast might appreciate a cooler stocked with team-themed items. 4. Stock your basket - Now that you have the container, you know how much you need to buy to fill it. Grab your list and head to the store! -(BPT)

You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 800.280.2832 or visit this Internet Web site: www.auction.com, using the file number assigned to this case A548405 A. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. If the sale is set aside for any reason, the Purchaser at the sale shall be entitled only to a return of the monies paid. Eyelid Surgery ~ Understanding Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery
Understanding Blepharoplasty Every year, hundreds of thousands of men and women choose blepharoplasty to improve the way they look. Droopy eyelids can make you look older and can also impair vision. Blepharoplasty corrects these problems and also removes puffiness and bags under the eyes that make you look worn and tired. This procedure cannot alter dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nor can it change sagging eyebrows. Though blepharoplasty is often performed as a single procedure, your surgeon may also recommend a browlift, facelift, or skin resurfacing to achieve the best results. “My droopy eyelids were driving me crazy. I had always had very fleshy eyelids, and as I got older, they began to sag badly. Putting on makeup was difficult. My eyelids felt funny, too, like they were in my way. Without realizing it, I started keeping my brow muscles tensed upward all the time. I was shocked when I saw that I had developed permanent creases in my forehead from doing that.” — agnesw. , age 58
Understanding the Surgery
In upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon first marks the individual lines and creases of the lids in order to keep the scars as invisible as possible along these natural folds. The incision is made, and excess fat is removed or repositioned, and then the loose muscle and skin are removed. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar. In lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes the incision in an inconspicuous site along the lashline and smile creases of the lower lid. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are then trimmed away before the incision is closed with fine sutures. Eyelid puffiness caused primarily by excess fat may be corrected by a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The incision in this case is made inside the lower eyelid, and excess fatty material is removed. When sutures are used to close this kind of incision, they are invisible to the eye. They are also commonly self-dissolving and leave no visible scar. Under normal conditions, blepharoplasty can take from one to two hours. A more refreshed look is often the result when eye bags are improved with blepharoplasty.
What to Expect After the Surgery
Immediately after the surgery has been completed, your surgeon may apply tiny sterile bandages. This is not done for transconjunctival blepharoplasty. It is not crucial that the eyes be covered. However, an ointment to prevent dryness of the eye area may be used. A certain degree of swelling and bruising is normal. Cold compresses, as well as head elevation when lying down, will enhance healing and relieve discomfort. Your surgeon will prescribe medication for discomfort. For a week and a half following blepharoplasty, you will clean the eye area (the eyes may feel sticky, dry, and itchy). Eyedrops may be recommended. Your surgeon will also list activities and environments to avoid in the weeks immediately following surgery. Permanent stitches will be removed in three to five days after surgery. Self-absorbing stitches will dissolve on their own. The risks of blepharoplasty are fairly minimal but include poor healing, persistent fat or loose skin and muscle, dry eyes, and very rarely, visual changes or loss. Facial plastic surgery makes it possible to correct many facial flaws and signs of premature aging that can undermine self-confidence. By changing how you look, facial plastic surgery can help change how you feel about yourself. Insurance does not generally cover surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons. Surgery to correct or improve vision or surgery for eye deformity or injury may be reimbursable in whole or in part. It is the patient’s responsibility to check with the insurance carrier for information on the degree of coverage. In a blepharoplasty, the eyelids heal remarkably quickly and scars are usually quite inconspicuous. Insurance does not generally cover surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons.
