Celebrate Dad with Grilling and Golf This year for Father’s Day, skip the tacky tie and 6 tablespoons diced red onion give dad something he truly wants – quality time 3 garlic cloves, minced with the kids who gave him such an honorable 3 tablespoons lemon juice title. Plan an intimate family gathering with all his 1 tablespoon olive oil favorite foods and a few special touches that reflect 1/4 teaspoon ground thyme his other passions in life, such as golf. Pepper to taste Let dad savor some grilled goodness (and a 1 pound boned, lean pork chop, cut into healthy dose of antioxidants) with colorful fruit and 1-inch cubes (approximately 38-40 pieces) veggie kabobs. Healthy, hydrating watermelon is 32 cubes watermelon (1 inch each), plus extra the star ingredient of these colorful skewers, which for garnish if desired also include marinated chunks of pork. 16-24 zucchini rounds (1/2 inch) Add a low-calorie, fat-free side by serving 16 pineapple chunks, fresh or watermelon balls in a fun golf ball-shaped vessel canned (1 inch each) carved from a watermelon rind. 24 yellow or orange peppers For more recipes and carving ideas using chunks (1 inch each, approximately versatile watermelon, visit www.watermelon.org. 3-4 peppers total) Pork and Watermelon Kabobs Cooking spray Servings: 8 Sesame seeds for garnish 6 tablespoons brown sugar Combine sugar, soy sauce, onion, garlic, lemon 6 tablespoons soy sauce juice, olive oil, thyme and pepper in mixing bowl. Pour into resealable bag and add pork pieces. Seal bag, mix thoroughly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, turning bag periodically. Remove pork from bag and reserve marinade. Thread 5 pork pieces, 4 watermelon cubes, 2-3 zucchini rounds, 2 pineapple chunks and 3 peppers on each of 8 skewers, alternating the order. Spray cooking surface on heated grill and place kebobs on grill. Grill for 12-15 minutes, or until done, turning and basting frequently with reserved marinade. Garnish with sesame seeds and chunks of watermelon. Golf Ball Serving Bowl Wash watermelon under cool running water and pat dry. On cutting board, place watermelon on side and cut off 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch from stem end, being careful not to cut too deep into white part of rind.

This will provide sturdy base. Using paring knife, cut a 3- to 4-inch round circle in top of watermelon. Use melon baller to make shallow round divots into rind of watermelon to mimic dimples in golf ball. Next, use kitchen knife to peel thin layers of rind off to expose white underneath, being careful not to cut too deep or red flesh will be exposed. Try to get as much of green rind off so it will resemble a white golf ball. Hollow out watermelon with spoon or scoop. Place on tray and add watermelon balls to serve.

Father’s Day was founded in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd. Its first celebration was in Spokane, Washington on June 19, 1910. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who reared his six children in Spokane, Washington. After hearing a sermon about Jarvis’ Mother’s Day in 1909, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father’s birthday, the pastors hadn’t enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June. It didn’t have much success initially. In the 1920s, Dodd stopped promoting the celebration because she was studying in the Art Institute of Chicago, and it faded into relative

obscurity, even in Spokane. In the 1930s Dodd returned to Spokane and started promoting the celebration again, raising awareness at a national level. She had the help of those trade groups that would benefit most from the holiday, for example the manufacturers of ties, tobacco pipes, and any traditional present to fathers. Since 1938 she had the help of the Father’s Day Council, founded by the New York Associated Men’s Wear Retailers to consolidate and systematize the commercial promotion A bill to accord national recognition of the holiday was introduced in Congress in 1913. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson went to Spokane to speak in a Father’s Day celebration and wanted to make it official, but Congress resisted, fearing that

it would become commercialized. US President Calvin Coolidge recommended in 1924 that the day be observed by the nation, but stopped short of issuing a national proclamation. Two earlier attempts to formally recognize the holiday had been defeated by Congress. In 1957, Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith wrote a proposal accusing Congress of ignoring fathers for 40 years while honoring mothers, thus “[singling] out just one of our two parents”. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972.

Do ’s and don’ts of shopping for dads and grads Father’s Day and graduations are coming up, and that means you’ll have to think of appropriate gifts for these heralded champions. You don’t need to spend a fortune to make gift recipients happy, all you do need to do is put some thought into their presents. A few tips and tricks will help you pick out a gift the recipient is sure to love. Here are some do’s and don’ts for shopping for dads and grads: Do: * Know what Dad enjoys. Does he like to cook? To read? Enjoy a specific sports team? It’s easier to buy a gift he’ll enjoy when you tailor it to his tastes. * Consider giving your grad cash. Whether he or she is graduating from high school or college, there will be late-night pizza needs that pop up, and that money is sure to come in handy. * Check your area for unique experiences. Being a tourist in your hometown can be easier than you think - whether it’s a trip to a local street fair, a specialty beer tasting at nearby watering hole, or even an afternoon at the ball game, sometimes sharing the experience can be the best gift.

* Spread your gift out through the whole year with a subscription to Netflix for Dad’s movie obsession, Hulu Plus for TV-lovers or Pandora for your grad with a music library that rivals Billboard’s Hot 100.- Almost all online streaming devices from TVs to Blu-ray players and even a sound bar from LG can give him access to his subscription. *Grads would love a place to plug in their music, and a docking station is perfect for everything from visiting a friend’s dorm room to just lounging around the apartment. With the ability to wirelessly stream from both iPhones and Androids, LG’s dual docking station can play from any phone in the area and keep them charged in the meantime. Don’t: * Buy Dad a tie. Beyond being cliche, with today’s casual workplace, he probably has more than enough already. Nothing says “forced smile” like a tie. * Buy your grads gift card for specific stores. By now, they’ve got their own flair and style, and you’ll run the risk of missing the mark. Best to throw a cash card or two in the mix, and call it the “gift of shopping.” * Give your grad the customary

graduation pen - it will be “lost” or act as the resident paper weight until he/ she moves out. * Buy exercise equipment unless you know it will be used. Just because you think Dad should start exercising, doesn’t mean he shares your enthusiasm - and you’re implying he needs to lose weight (not what he wants to hear).

* Skimp on technology. It changes quickly - that’s why stores have those clearance tables. No need to break the bank, but don’t buy something that’s outdated the moment you walk out of the store. Regardless of what you give a grad or Dad, she or he will appreciate it the most when your gift comes from your heart. -(BPT)

The man cave: Give Dad a space all his own

Man cave, manspace, manctuary ... whatever he calls it, it’s Dad’s special place away from the rest of the house. This Father’s Day, give Dad the ultimate gift and make him his own man cave. It’s easier than you think, and a thoughtful gift that says to Dad, “I love you, and you can run away from us now.” Step 1: Identify the space The optimal man cave is secluded, has a lockable door and is 100 percent Dad’s to own and decorate. Examples include garages, basements, dens, attics or for the bookish types, studies. When locating Dad’s man cave, consider this - it’s his to own, decorate, use and entertain in however he chooses. He will clean it (or not) how he sees fit ... although you can encourage him with a heavy-duty vacuum, like the RIDGID Wet/Dry Vac. Step 2: Clear it out and outfit it Dad needs a blank canvas to create his masterpiece. Clear out all the boxes, industrial-size cleaning and paper products and any other knickknacks you’ve stored there. Locate the focal point of the room and think about what he’ll put there. For sports-loving dads and his friends, this will probably be a big screen TV. For the DIYer and builder, it’s where his workbench goes. * Paint it. A fresh coat of paint does wonders. In one glance, it can tell you that you’ve entered the “man room.” BEHR paint experts recommend dark blues, greens or reds for a man cave, with accents of charcoal blacks or chocolate brown. * No matter the dad, you’ll want to set him up with durable storage options that can handle anything from power tools to whiskey stones, like a Husky Page 6

9-drawer Mobile Work Center, $249 or the Husky 48 inch Floor Cabinet, $379. It’ll also withstand every day wear and tear and look great years from now. * Does Dad like giant TVs? Don’t run the risk of having it crash to the ground. Get a mounting kit, like the Level Mount Adjustable Fixed Mount, $47.99. If you’ve got questions on how to install, ask an associate when you’re picking it up. Step 3: Stock it Next, fill ‘er up with goodies to keep him busy for days. Whether these gifts are for his projects or just for relaxing, Dad deserves ultimate setup. * If Dad likes to entertain or just stay refreshed while working, an ice maker and mini fridge will keep him from having to leave his new favorite place. Check out the Magic Chef 27-lb Portable Ice Maker ($199) and the SPT Mini Refrigerator, $169. * Dad like toys? Hook him up with the latest innovation in power tools - lithium ion batteries. They hold their charge four times longer than traditional ni-cad batteries. For newbies, the Ryobi ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Drill and Impact Driver Combo kit or the Ryobi ONE + Ultimate Combo Kits are both great choices to get Dad drilling. For the fully-stocked DIYer, try the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ 18-Gauge Cordless 2 inch Brad Nailer. If it’s hand tools he’s after, you can get lifetime-guaranteed Husky 7-Piece Ratcheting Mobile Wrench Set. * Give him something cool to show off with his friends. Check out the Defiant AmorMax 3D Tactical Flashlight, $29.97, which can shine the length of three football fields and work even while submerged in 30 feet of water; a Kerogrator Beer Keg Fridge,

The San Clemente News

$499 or an LED headlamp like the Defiant 7 LED Headlamp, $17.97 (you’ll be shocked at the uses he’ll find for this). * Let him choose his own adventure with new Project Cards from The Home Depot - load it up with the amount needed for Dad’s next project and he can track the balance with no fees. If you’re helping Dad, you can also be added to the account to use the card when you run out for supplies. Step 4: Break it in Every new space needs a housewarming party, including caves. Invite the guys over and encourage Dad to show off his man cave’s sweet style.- Put together tubs of soda, beer and water, order the wings, arrange easy table snacks like chips and salsa, and let them have at it. Cheers to this mancutary.

Garage space isn’t just for cars anymore

The word garage, when looked up in the dictionary, has a simple meaning: a building or indoor area for parking or storing motor vehicles. By and large, this definition sums up exactly what comes to mind for most folks when they hear the word. But for some folks, garages are so much more than a space to park the family minivan and store the cumbersome and unattractive trash and recycling bins. Instead, they are functioning spaces of the home that, in the eye of the homeowner, serve just as much purpose as a kitchen or a bathroom and deserve just as much attention to detail. More and more, people are using garages as space to actually live in. It isn’t just extra room anymore. Since the 1950s, most garages in North America are of the “attached” variety, meaning that they are part of the actual main home and not a separate building on the property. From music studios to man caves, art spaces to playrooms, garages are quickly becoming more integral parts of the family home. They are heated and cooled. They are equipped with cable and Internet capabilities. They are accessorized with attractive lighting and flooring choices. While wall cabinetry units may

still house things like a yard rake and a collection of tennis racquets and lacrosse sticks, they are also being chosen to integrate in such a fashion that the garage is truly seen as another room in the home, no matter what the intended end use of the square footage. The gateway to the garage, of course, is the garage door. Garage doors, even though they impact the exterior look of the home, have not always been given as much careful consideration, as a design element, as the rest of the house. But now, more than ever, garage doors are getting special treatment in the design arena - both from the exterior and interior perspectives. A consumer using garage space as an art studio may choose a door with more window panels, as to increase and enhance the natural light that comes into the space. The parents of a budding rock band musician who uses the space as a performing and recording area might need to take into account the ability of the door to reduce the noise carrying to other parts of the house. Garage spaces can even be beautifully appointed to serve as living rooms, sunrooms, and a variety of other entertaining spaces that integrate seamlessly with the design

and decor of the rest of the home. A ground-breaking addition to the garage world is the new Trento Collection, distributed by Amarr, a company that has been a leader in the garage door industry with decades of innovation and design. Available in an almost unlimited number of looks, doors in the Trento Collection can be customized to fit the architecture of any home. Unlike traditional garage doors that operate via a series of springs, rails and tracks along the ceiling, Trento Collection garage doors showcase revolutionary technology and Italian design, featuring a patented overlap design that allows the door to open

by folding neatly in half without any ceiling hardware to clutter the overhead space in the garage. This allows for a Trento door to take up far less space and appear significantly sleeker on the inside and outside than the traditional garage door. So give your garage another look. It is a fine space for doing the things that traditionally make us think of garages, of course, but take a look at your garage space with a fresh eye. The space can be so much more. Entertaining space, work space, a space for a personal hobby that you’ve always wanted in your home but could never figure out how to have. The possibilities are endless.

Look no further than your freezer for Dad’s perfect gift Bill Cosby once said, “Fatherhood is pretending the present you love the most is soap-on-a-rope.” As children all over the country prepare to honor their dads for Father’s Day or a special birthday, it might be time to say “no” to the soap and ties and give him what he really loves - a home-cooked meal. In a survey of more than 2,000 American adults, Harris Interactive asked men and women about the best gifts for their dads. While a new tablet or smartphone came in at No. 1, the second thing dads want most is a home-cooked meal. For most of us, tablets and smartphones might be out of reach, but a home-cooked meal is just what the budget ordered. And what home-cooked meal do dads love the most? According to a study (featured on the Today Show) that examined the intersection between food taste and gender, men tend to prefer salt-fat combinations (burgers, pizza, chips). When it comes to comfort food, men turn to steak or stews. Simply put - men like meat. So this year, when it’s time to honor your dad, consider hosting a family barbecue with all of Dad’s home-cooked favorites. Whether you choose mouth-watering steak burgers, bone-in ribeyes or fingerlicking good Kansas City barbecue, the options are almost endless for a home-cooked meal that Dad (and your friends and family) will love. If you don’t know where to start your menu planning, you can find

some great barbecue ideas online. Be sure to check out the recipe and cooking tips from The Kansas City Steak Company. Simply select your favorite category and you’ll receive helpful tips and tricks for a delectable meal with recipes created by talented chefs and home cooks across the country. With more than 600 recipes to choose from, you’re sure to find just the right meal to honor your dad. Ed Scavuzzo, president of The Kansas City Steak Company, says that summer is becoming one of the company’s busiest times of the year. “As life gets more complicated, more families are using special days like Father’s Day to reconnect. We provide everything you need to host the perfect outdoor barbecue - except the grill.” Once you’ve selected the perfect meal for your dad, don’t forget to check out these top 10 grilling tips to maximize flavors and minimize flare-ups. Whether your dad wants to navigate the grill himself - after all, it is his day - or he allows you to take over for the day, grilling your meat-of-choice to perfection is easy when you follow a few simple rules. There’s even a grilling app to give you on-the-spot tips and timing. So this year when it’s time to honor your dad, look no further than your computer, your creativity and your freezer for a gift he’ll treasure memories made together enjoying a home-cooked meal. -(BPT)

FEI Course Designer Oscar Soberon set the 1.50m track for the thirty grand prix competitors. “I tried to focus more on the verticals rather than the oxers, which I think is playing it on the safe side. The distances are pretty straight forward. I’m not asking a lot of long or short distances. A little bit steady and too long but nothing too extreme. I hope that gives everyone a chance to do well.” When asked about building in this Del Mar location, Soberon went into detail about his plan. “I love this ring. I love the material. I tried to give a different look to all the fences. With the triple, I put brush under the inand-out but nothing in between. I’m using a lot of rails for number 13 and number 12 is super airy with panels on top, really challenging them. I alternated between super filled and super airy. I always put a big wall, a liverpool, a skinny, planks on top and triple bars, so every part of the course should be a challenge.” Marc Grock was first in and first clean on Moonlite Beach, LLC’s Little Gancho. That feat could not be matched for another twenty rides, when Nassar went clean on Lordan. Three more fabulous horse and rider combinations also joined

Nayel Nassar with Monica Ward of Equ Lifestyle, Blenheim EquiSports’ Melissa Brandes and Lauren Davis of EquiFit, inc.

1.50m. He had a scopey triple and a couple careful verticals. There was enough in there to keep the riders motivated and to keep them on point.” Nassar bought Lordan as a sevenyear-old. Now twelve years old, and returning with gusto from a year off, together they have competed in a World Cup Final and the World Equestrian Games, won the HITS Million in Saugerties and recently won a CSI3*-W World Cup class in Thermal. Lauren Crooks and Dora the Explorer Earn Top Prize in the Interactive Mortgage Horses 10&U Futurity Similar to Thursday’s Markel Insurance Grand Prix, the second $7,500 Interactive Mortgage Horses 10&U Futurity of this season’s series seemed like another win for Rich Fellers, until Lauren Crooks snapped it away by .059 seconds. Fourteen of thirty-nine entries went clean over Soberon’s course of fourteen efforts, including three double combinations. Once again, several top names were vying for the win in this competitive young horse class. Second to return, Michelle Parker and Vancouver 45 set the pace with a quick and clean ride in 39.55. The next seven attempts couldn’t catch Parker. Then Rich Fellers stepped into the ring on Leslie Nelson’s Coupis. Choosing a tidy track, he left out a stride in the first line and Lauren Crooks with Evette and Gregg DeLong of Interactive Mortgage galloped down to the final square and Blenheim EquiSports’ Melissa Brandes oxer, stopping the clock at 38.75 to the jump-off: Rich Fellers on Harry and Mollie Chapman’s Flexible, Richard Spooner on Cristallo and Will Simpson riding Monarch International’s E Unanime de la Haie. Grock started the jump-off with a fault free yet conservative ride in 40.08. Wanting to put the pressure on the impressive riders that followed him, next to go, Nassar, left out strides in several places and made tidy turns, stopping the clock in 35.43. His strategy paid off, as attempts to be faster made by Fellers and Spooner each scored eight faults. Last to go, Simpson was smooth and without fault but not quite quick enough in 36.11 for second place by less than a second. Nassar thought the course suited the competition. “I thought he did a good job course wise, it was a solid

take over the top spot. Lauren Crooks decided to see what the eight-year-old Dora the Explorer, owned by Wembley Farms, Inc., could do. Galloping down the first line, the pair were quite fast early on. Leaving out a stride to the combination and racing to the last fence, she clocked in at a speedy 38.69, taking the blue from Fellers. No other entries could beat those efforts, resulting in Crooks first and Fellers second. “I bought her in August of 2015, she’s my next up-and-coming grand prix prospect,” Crooks said of Dora. “This is the first time I have actually tried ‘going for it,’ so it’s really exciting. She’s a young horse, so to be able to push her and test her limits was really great.” And Crooks agreed that narrowly edging out Olympian and World Cup Champion Fellers was an added bonus. Four more qualifiers are scheduled before the $20,000 Interactive Mortgage Futurity Series Final at Showpark All Seasons, August 31 September 4, 2016. The top 25 point earners will earn a chance to compete. Sunday presentations of the SmartPak Grand Champions and High Score Awards will wrap up Blenheim’s second World Champion Hunter Rider week. Certainly a week for the record books, the competition continues to be exciting at the Ranch & Coast Classic.

Tilly’s “Tillydega Nights” Charity Golf Classic Raises over $100,000 to Benefit Foundation to Empower Teens Photos by: Kelly Bennett & Michael Custodio Tilly’s Life Center (TLC) a youth-focused 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation held its 9th Annual Charity Golf Classic at the prestigious Dove Canyon Country Club where various sponsors, brands and executives from the action sports industry rallied together to raise funds for the foundation. Attendees golfed and then partied at the “Tillydega Nights” themed courtyard with scrumptious food, adult libations, silent and live auctions and entertainment. “We’re very grateful for the participation and support of our sponsors, brands, executives, volunteers and the turnout at this year’s charity golf classic. This is what it’s really about; the industry coming together to support the mission of Tilly’s Life Center to create lasting changes in the lives of young people” said co-founder of Tillys and founder of Tilly’s Life Center, Tilly Levine. The tournament started off in full gear with a putting contest by Odyssey and Tillys for a chance to win an Odyssey putter and 1 dozen Tillys Pro V1 golf balls, followed by a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. sending golfers out on an 18-hole course stacked with games, giveaways and contests such as a hole-in-one to win a BMW. Golfers enjoyed hole activations from Wahoo’s and Wienerschnitzel, Pabst Beer Company, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Layrite, SOCIAL, AsomBroso Tequila and live-art from James Haunt. Tillys 9th annual Golf Tournament gross and net winners included: Electric, Quiksilver/Roxy, Moss Adams, Raj Swim, Neff and LRG. After a day of golfing, guests strolled through the ultimate in food dinning with a myriad of choices around the grounds. Starting with passed hors d’oeuvres of Coconut Shrimp with Sweet Thai Chili Sauce, Fried Okra with Creole Remoulade, Cajun Sausage Bites, Fresh Baked Pretzel with Beer Cheese Sauce and Whole Grain Mustard attendees then were privy to buffet stations of BBQ Trip Tip Sliders served on a Sweet Hawaiian Roll, Kobe Beef Sliders with Blue Cheese & Onion Jam on a Brioche Bun, BBQ Shrimp Skewers with Spicy Remoulade, Crispy Twice Barbequed Chicken Legs, Chicken & Waffles with Maple Syrup & Powdered Sugar, Vegetarian Corn Succotash, Homemade Macaroni & Cheese, Vegetarian Baked Beans, and Peanut Coleslaw. Dessert was Cake Pops to go – so yes, everything was delish! The silent auction area was just as vast with everything from signed guitars by many famous music artists like James Taylor and Steven Tyler; there were a lot of clothing and jewelry available, with some things for the kids too but the wine – oh the Silver Oak that was up for grabs nearly stopped my heart! Live auction items that were up for grabs were just as exciting. Folks bidding waged a bidding war for items such as a trip for two to Cabo San Lucas Country Club donated by Katin that went for $1400; a four-night stay donated by Exclusive Resorts went for $4000; The North Face donated a Heli Ski Trip for two – the lucky winner picked it up for $2000; then there were accommodations for a five night, six day stay at the legendary Pipe House that was donated by Volcom that went for $7000. Key sponsors, brands, executives and athletes in attendance at this year’s golf tournament included: Ryan Sheckler, Volcom, Fox, LRG, Neff, Quiksilver, Vans, Billabong, Converse and many more. Tilly’s Life Center is a youth-focused, 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable foundation aimed at empowering all teens with a positive mindset and enabling them to effectively cope with crisis, adversity and tough decisions. TLC aims to empower teens to overcome their own adversity and crisis through positive thinking. Through tested methodologies from globally-respected thought leaders, TLC teaches effective life tools that enable teens the confidence and self-esteem they need to take responsibility for themselves – ultimately giving them the power to make positive changes in their own lives. Eyelid Surgery ~ Understanding Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery

Understanding Blepharoplasty Every year, hundreds of thousands of men and women choose blepharoplasty to improve the way they look. Droopy eyelids can make you look older and can also impair vision. Blepharoplasty corrects these problems and also removes puffiness and bags under the eyes that make you look worn and tired. This procedure cannot alter dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nor can it change sagging eyebrows. Though blepharoplasty is often performed as a single procedure, your surgeon may also recommend a browlift, facelift, or skin resurfacing to achieve the best results. “My droopy eyelids were driving me crazy. I had always had very fleshy eyelids, and as I got older, they began to sag badly. Putting on makeup was difficult. My eyelids felt funny, too, like they were in my way. Without realizing it, I started keeping my brow muscles tensed upward all the time. I was shocked when I saw that I had developed permanent creases in my forehead from doing that.” — agnesw. , age 58

Understanding the Surgery

In upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon first marks the individual lines and creases of the lids in order to keep the scars as invisible as possible along these natural folds. The incision is made, and excess fat is removed or repositioned, and then the loose muscle and skin are removed. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar. In lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes the incision in an inconspicuous site along the lashline and smile creases of the lower lid. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are then trimmed away before the incision is closed with fine sutures. Eyelid puffiness caused primarily by excess fat may be corrected by a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The incision in this case is made inside the lower eyelid, and excess fatty material is removed. When sutures are used to close this kind of incision, they are invisible to the eye. They are also commonly self-dissolving and leave no visible scar. Under normal conditions, blepharoplasty can take from one to two hours. A more refreshed look is often the result when eye bags are improved with blepharoplasty.

What to Expect After the Surgery

Immediately after the surgery has been completed, your surgeon may apply tiny sterile bandages. This is not done for transconjunctival blepharoplasty. It is not crucial that the eyes be covered. However, an ointment to prevent dryness of the eye area may be used. A certain degree of swelling and bruising is normal. Cold compresses, as well as head elevation when lying down, will enhance healing and relieve discomfort. Your surgeon will prescribe medication for discomfort. For a week and a half following blepharoplasty, you will clean the eye area (the eyes may feel sticky, dry, and itchy). Eyedrops may be recommended. Your surgeon will also list activities and environments to avoid in the weeks immediately following surgery. Permanent stitches will be removed in three to five days after surgery. Self-absorbing stitches will dissolve on their own. The risks of blepharoplasty are fairly minimal but include poor healing, persistent fat or loose skin and muscle, dry eyes, and very rarely, visual changes or loss. Facial plastic surgery makes it possible to correct many facial flaws and signs of premature aging that can undermine self-confidence. By changing how you look, facial plastic surgery can help change how you feel about yourself. Insurance does not generally cover surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons. Surgery to correct or improve vision or surgery for eye deformity or injury may be reimbursable in whole or in part. It is the patient’s responsibility to check with the insurance carrier for information on the degree of coverage. In a blepharoplasty, the eyelids heal remarkably quickly and scars are usually quite inconspicuous. Insurance does not generally cover surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons.
