5 RESEARCH WORK CEILING

BYELAWS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CINEMA BUILDINGS (IS: 4878-1986 NUMBER OF EXITSEvery place of assembly for over 1 000 persons shall have at least four separate exits as remote from each other as practicable. Every place of assembly for less than 1 000 persons shall have at least two separate exits as remote from each other as practicable and if capacity over 600, at least three separate exits shall be provided with each exit not less than of 2 unit widths.

DOORWAYS Every exit doorway shall open into an enclosed stairway, or a horizontal exit of a corridor or passageway providing continuous and protected means of egress. No exit doorway shall be less than 100 cm in width. Doorways shall be not less than 200 cm in height. Exit doorways shall open outwards, that is, away from the room, but shall not obstruct the travel along any exit. Ceiling reflectors, sometimes called clouds, are used to direct sound energy from the stage to the seating area.

STAGE

Vinyl flooring that is backed with foam and has a flexible surface , makes it a good choice for a sound reduction.

Wall treatment can be done in the form of tiles or fabrics. Fabric panel are the ideal choice for controlling excessive reverberations.

DOORS

SEATING

INTERNAL STAIRCASES Internal stairs shall be constructed of non-combustible materials throughout. Interior staircase shall be constructed as a self-contained unit with an external wall constituting at least one of its sides and shall be completely enclosed. A staircase shall not be arranged round a lift shaft unless the latter is totally enclosed by a material of fire-resistance rating as that for type of construction itself.

AISLES Clear aisles not less than 1.2 m in width shall be formed at right angles to the line of seating in such number and manner that no seat shall be more than seven seats away from an aisle. Rows of seats opening on to an aisle at one end only shall have Not more than seven seat.

PARAPET Parapet walls and handrails provided on the edges of roof terraces, balcony, verandah, etc, shall not be less than l-05 m and not more than 1.20 m in height from the finished floor level. •Entire stage area requires to be treated along with walls and flooring. •Light bars required for focus lighting on stage. • Motorized open able curtains required on stage.

•Door thickness should be 125mm to prevent external sound to enter the hall. •Windows should be DGS and preferably openable and not sliding; and should be double glazed

To provide best visibility from any seat, no patron should sit exactly in front of any other patron . Staggering of seats is also recommended.
