The Seniors Say Goodbye to RVHS

“It’s not the destination but the journey. Enjoy the journey. It’s not the end but how you get there.”

by Carlin Cline

A

s the class of 2017’s high school years come to an end, many memories were created and the class has definitely left a legacy. It all began freshmen year with a rough entrance into the high school lifestyle with the that year’s senior class being very dominant at rallies and on sports teams. They soon adjusted

and became leaders around campus. A few highlights over the years have been: experiencing “Every 15 Minutes” twice, winning the swim league championship all four years and the softball league championship twice, having a new Vice Principal, Mrs. Knisley, winning 1st place for the junior year Homecoming float,

The Class of 2017’s officers: Kathryn Scneder, secretary and treasurer; Josie Hamilton, president; and Mallory Wilson, vice president.

keeping the Bell for all 4 years, having two All League MVPs, Ryan Mackey and Casie Mortimore, having 50 students earn a gold tassel at graduation, having 30 students attend a four year university, and building a tight class relationship. The class was honored to call Daryn Katsuki and Ramiro Uribe Homecoming Royalty. The seniors were the first class to have the new block schedule and it was a huge success. The class was led by officers: Josie Hamilton, president; Mallory Wilson, vice president; and Kati Scneder, secretary and treasurer. This class has an impressive 13 Top Ten Seniors, instead of the traditional 10 due to the high achieving students. The Class of 2017 have always been the favorite class and will be missed terribly by the faculty and staff. They have always been role models on campus and have spear headed many new activities and projects on campus and in the community. As the seniors toss their graduation caps in the air travel down different roads, they can always look back on the tight-knit class that they had and all the memories they created at Rio Vista High School.

Mr. Fonseca “.... stash away $$ for rainy days and life’s partays!”

Mrs. Griffin “Don’t be in a hurry to grow up and have a family - you have plenty of time for that. Live on your own and get to know yourself. Travel as far and as much as you possibly can. You’re a great class who will do amazing things. Congratulations!”

Karina Mandujano, Emma Okamura, Selene Leal, Marcel Roberts, and Thomas Campbell get ready to sign their letters of intent. by Carlin Cline

O

n May 5th, the seniors of RVHS signed their letters of intent for the college of their choice. Not only did seniors in Rio Vista sign them, but seniors all over the United States. National College Signing Day is celebrated by all seniors planning on attending a four year university. This year an outstanding 30 seniors signed their letters of intent to attend a variety of schools throughout California and a few out of state. The seniors who signed their letters wore their new school gear and celebrated their

new decision. All of their accomplishments were recognized in front of all of the student body at a rally. Along with the letters being signed, other achievements were announced such as sports news, scholarship recipients, and academic honor accomplishments. Students attending a two year university and enlisting into the military were also recognized. It was a stressful couple months leading up to this day for the seniors, but all of their hard work and achievements will serve them well in the future.

10 College Must-haves Remember that sharing a room with one or more people means you have to share resources too. Extra outlets will come in handy for all of your technology.

2. First aid kit

For times when you’re feeling homesick and don’t have you new significant other to cuddle. snuggle with a stuffed animal.

3. Noise reduction headphones

When your roommates are loud or it’s time to cram for finals, these headphones are a great way to escape the noises of college.

4. Laundry basket

8. Shower supplies

A shower carrier will come in handy for communal bathrooms so others don’t steal your bathing supplies and shower flip flops will keep your feet away from the dirty restroom floors.

9. Febreze

Without mom constantly changing your sheets and washing your clothes, Febreze can help cover up the smell of your laziness.

Instead of throwing your dirty clothes on the floor, a laundry basket can make it easier to take your clothes to and from the washing and drying machines.

Go see what this big world has to offer!

Prevent the “Freshman 15” or 50, by exercising at your school’s gym. You pay for it so you might as well use it!

7. Stuffed animal

You never know when you’ll get sick or hurt and mom won’t be there with Advil and BandAids.

What I’ll miss the least... Maria Aguilar Duran: The soap dispensers in the girl’s bathroom Maile Bennett: Phone policy, tardy policy, closed campus, small town politics Kayl enn Burgess: People who aren’t my friends or teammates Tommy Campbell: Reading Shakespeare Luis Chavez: Free mediocre school lunches Stephanie Edmundson: Homework Jacob Fortes: Math and homework Kira Gifford: Waking up at 6:30 am Brandon Gutierrez: The school part Homar Gutierrez: Coming to school Josie Hamilton: People saying they want to go far in life, but not actually working for it Daryn Katsuki: Immature people that start drama and people who only care about themselves Aaron Langlois: Homework Kyera Mackey: Phone policy, having to stay here when it is unnecessary, dress code, and having to ask to use the bathroom Ryan Mackey: Office authority Paige May: The dumb rules Noah Mitchell: Writing essay Roberto Perez: The homework Paulo Rendon: All the homework Savanna Rodriguez: Obnoxious loud people who think we all want to hear them Melissa Sanchez: Late night AP homework Ireland Stevens: Having to come to school everyday Celeste Flynn-McGahey: The immature and rude people who think that everything they do is funny Kati Scneder: School dress code and waking up early!! Ramiro Uribe: Calculus Taryn Vaughn: ALL THE DETENTIONS! Abel Zapien: Going to 1st period Peter Zucha: Taking math classes

6. Workout clothes

1. Extra power outlet

5. Vitamin D Pills

For those of you leaving California, seasonal depression and vitamin D deprivation can occur from lack of annual sun intake. Vitamin D pills can prevent these issues from occuring.

10. Coffee maker

Since your days of pulling allnighters are just beginning and you might not have the time to run to Starbucks, a coffee maker can make college life a little more convenient.
