Crab & Lobster Festival launches the Bootiful Boat Art Trail and Scrumptious Seafood Trail

The Crab & Lobster Festival’s annual Art Trail and Seafood Trail launched in Cromer and Sheringham on Good Friday, 19 April.

Over 70 decorative boats have popped up in shop windows and open spaces across Cromer, Sheringham and further afield as part of the Bootiful Boat Art Trail and local eateries are hosting delicious seafood in celebration of the annual Seafood Trail.

Both trails are featured on a Festival Trail leaflet which can be picked up in local tourist information centres.

The Bootiful Boats, decorated by local artists, school-children, community groups and shops, have been adorned and transformed in the same spirit as the Festival’s Lifebuoy Art Trail in 2013. The majority have a crab and lobster as part of the design and people can follow the trail, choose their favourite and enter a fantastic prize draw.

People have knitted, painted, sewn and used photography to decorate the Boats which will all be auctioned off to the highest bidder to raise funds for charity in the Festival’s annual Charity Auction on 24 August.

The Scrumptious Seafood Trail features over 20 local cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels which are all offering delicious, local seafood with a Festival special dish.

He added “with the Seafood Trail beginning as well we hope everyone is enjoying sampling some scrumptious seafood in our local pubs, restaurants and cafes”.

Act now to secure your vote says Local Returning Officer

With the European Parliamentary election taking place on Thursday 22 May, the Local Returning Officer for North Norfolk is urging voters to make sure they are registered to vote in time.

“People are talking about the elections, but you’ll only be able to have your say on who represents you in the European Parliament if you’re registered to vote by the deadline of Tuesday 6 May”, said Sheila Oxtoby, Chief Executive of North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) and Local Returning Officer for North Norfolk for the European Parliamentary election.

www.northnorfolk.org/elections and print off a registration form or call NNDC Electoral Services on 01263 516046 or 516317.

“Even if you think you’re already registered, it’s really important to double check. Many people think they are automatically registered because they pay council tax, but this isn’t true. If you’re unsure, you can call your local authority to check.”

“Registering is quick and simple. All you have to do is visit

News from the White Horse Overstrand with Head Chef Nathan Boon

At Last summer seems to be on its way, the evenings are warmer and our customers are beginning to enjoy our garden area.

Our Bouncy Castle will be installed in the garden for the May Bank Holidays and will stay until the end of summer. Children love playing on it and it is a welcome addition to our garden play area. We are planning to extend our ‘Kids Eat Free’ offer for a few more weeks so why not take advantage of this great lunchtime deal. Available Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 3pm the offer allows two children (per adult eating) to eat free from the Children’s Menu when the adult purchases a main meal from our lunchtime menu. NATIONAL BLOOD SERVICE

CROMER AND DISTRICT GARDEN SOCIETY

What a difference a year makes! Bad weather in March 2013 meant that we had to take the decision to cancel our spring show for the first time ever. One year on and the story could not have been different. A warm and generally sunny early spring meant that our members were out in force for our 2014 show. There were over 160 entries and the Community Centre in Cromer looked a picture. Jennifer Andrews won best in section for daffodils, Sylvia Kilshaw won the tulip section and Derek Pardon the section for other plants. Flower arranging was won by Jenny Pawson, crafts by Pat Fisher and cookery by Elaine Spittles. The best in show winner was Derek Pardon with a stunning cyclamen.

Our April meeting was very well attended and heard Ian Roofe give tips on the best way to propagate plants. Hardwood cuttings are best taken when the plant is dormant over the winter months. They need to be put into a slit trench in garden and may benefit from the use of hormone rooting powder. These generally take between six and twelve months to get a good root system. Softwood cuttings are best taken when the plant is in growth and will produce viable cuttings in a few weeks. Seed and cutting compost should be used and not multi-purpose. Division is a tried and tested way of getting half a dozen or more plants from a single parent and so is taking root cuttings. This is particularly good for oriental poppies, acanthus and ornamental thistle and ,once again, is a job for the dormant season.

Our next meeting at the Community Centre in Cromer is on Wednesday 14 May at 7.30pm. Frank Lambert, a nationally renowned fuchsia grower, will be giving advice on how to grow fuchsias for year round effect. Visitors are very welcome Cost £2. Two days later on the 16 May we will be having a plant sale at the Community Centre from 10 am to 1 pm. There are bound to be some bargains!

Norwich Students’ Jazz Orchestra to Perform in Cromer

Cromer and Sheringham Rotary have booked the Norwich Students’ Jazz Orchestra to perform a charity fund-raising concert in Cromer. The event will take in Cromer Parish Church on Saturday, 3 May, starting at 7.30 pm. In aid of local charities, it will be the Club’s biggest fund-raising event this year and is aimed at attracting the widest possible audience. “The jazz orchestra marks a complete break from our traditional charity organ concerts and we hope it will appeal to young and old alike as well as a specialist following.” said Rotarian Debz Conisbee who arranged the booking. “They are very talented group and we are fortunate to have obtained their services in May.” The Norwich Students’ Orchestra was formed thirty years ago to give students in Norwich the opportunity to explore improvised music alongside the discipline of ensemble playing. This is an integral part of the instrumental tuition provided by the Norwich Music Service.

A number of players have benefitted enormously by working with top class jazz performers. Past students have gone on to become expert professional musicians working worldwide. The NSJO meets at St. Francis of Assisi School, Jessopp Road, Norwich. Membership is by Invitation only. Tickets for the Charity concert are £8 and available on the door. For more information contact Debz Conisbee on 07775744255 or Donald Mayes on 01263 761392

CROMER MUSIC EVENINGS

In the last of the present series, Cromer Music Evenings welcomes the return of the superb young pianist Kausikan Rajeshkumar to play at Templewood, Northrepps on Sunday 27 April.

Since Kausikan arrived as a last minute surprise replacement last season, he has been extremely busy. Just two weeks after thrilling us with his very first performance of Schumann’s Carnaval, he won the annual Royal College of Music Schumann Prize with the same piece.

Kausikan was born in London in 1990 and began playing when 7 years old and despite offers of scholarships to the top music colleges, preferred to read music at Cambridge University, graduating with First Class Honours. He has already been awarded numerous prizes and is in great demand performing at home and abroad and as all who have heard him play will know, he has a glittering future ahead of him. His programme will include Bach’s English Suite no. 5 in E minor, Beethoven’s Sonata in E major, Scriabin’s Sonata no. 2, op. 19 and the Barcarolle, op. 60 by Chopin.

Cromer Music Evenings feels honoured to hear him once more in Norfolk, as his career will undoubtedly soon take him to the greatest concert halls in the world. The concert is open to all and starts promptly at 3pm. Tickets sold at the door at Templewood, Frogshall, NR270LJ (easily found halfway between Northrepps and Southrepps villages). Contact Eddie & Tina Anderson, 01263 579400 Further details of the next series of concerts: cromermusicevenings.org.uk

An evening of live music with the Sweetbeats! A newly formed collective of Cromer residents is about to kick-start its activities with an exhilarating night of live music. Renowned dancehall band the Sweetbeats will be bringing their joyful sounds to Cromer Community Centre on Friday 2 May, in aid of the Cromer Skate Park campaign.

‘Cromer Social Services’ is a group of Cromer residents united by the common aims of organising social events in the town while raising money for good causes at the same time. They describe themselves as ‘a motley and diverse bunch, but with a shared love of dancing’. The Sweetbeats are an eight-piece dancehall band who formed in 2003. Bringing colour, fun and style to their stage sets and their snapper dapper outfits, they are favourites on the dancehall circuit.

Cromer Social Services explained ‘This is a night for everyone who is up for a good dance in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. There is no dress code, and there are no cliques. Come along and experience Cromer Community Centre in a completely new light!’ Tickets cost £9 in advance from the ‘Wet Dog’ surf shop on Tucker Street, or £10 on the door.

You can find out more about Cromer Social Services on their FaceBook page, or by following them on Twitter: @CromerSocSer

The band plays rocksteady ska - the melodic, soulful ‘missing link’ between ‘60s upbeat ska and the chilled-down reggae of early ‘70s Jamaica. However, the Sweetbeats add a twist to every tune, with nutty noises, an occasional frosting of dub, and hints of Motown, Northern Soul and Dancehall to sweeten the sound even further. Guests are being invited to arrive for 8pm, when they can learn some of the original swing and jive dance moves, courtesy of Marlene’s School of Dance. They will get the opportunity to put their new moves into practice from 8.45pm, when the Sweetbeats take to the stage with a selection of original songs and classic rare grooves. The band’s heady mix of irresistible harmonies, luscious horns and deep dance beats is expected to keep the dancing going long into the night.

As well as fine live music, there will be DJs performing in-between sets, a raffle, and visuals in the form of films. There will be a bar selling both alcohol and soft drinks, and cakes will be available to keep energy levels high!

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

Patsy, the little kitten with bladder problems, has now been given a clean bill of health and is available for homing. At her final visit to the vets a urine sample indicated she was now completely clear of crystals in her bladder and after a few more days on her special food she will be able to revert to ordinary cat food.

Towards the latter part of last year we had an e-mail from a young lady called Shar at the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society advising us she was in charge of nominating the charities they help and asking if there was any way they could help us. Although restricted in what they can donate she wondered whether we needed any equipment or cat carriers. We responded by saying that we would be delighted for any Stephanie with Shar and David on their visit to Dilham help they could offer and after visiting Shar at her workplace were able to advise her how much money various items cost if obtained from our a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the suppliers. At the beginning of the year Shar was very happy to tell us above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered. If, that our request for help had been successful and she had a cheque for however, you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten £259 for us to purchase the equipment. These items were duly purchased please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). and Shar, together with her work colleague David, came down to Dilham recently to formally hand the equipment over to us. No 1 Composer to present Masterclass at Auden Theatre “Never before have I been so moved by my own writing”. With these amazing words

internationally acclaimed composer Patrick Hawes introduced over 100 members of Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society to the music which they have commissioned him to write to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War.

A few days ago, closely followed by BBC television cameras (in preparation for a report later in the year), Mr Hawes took time out from a very busy schedule talking about his latest album Angel which is currently number one in

Called Eventide this 45 minute choral work will be performed for the first time in Norwich Cathedral on Saturday 12 July with the English Chamber Orchestra and soprano soloist Elin Manahan Thomas.

Prior to the world premiere performance Patrick Hawes will lead a Workshop in the Auden Theatre on Saturday 17 May. He will talk about the process of composing, referring in particular to Eventide. There will be opportunities for those who wish to sing sections of the new work. This will be a unique opportunity to learn direct from one of the world’s leading composers. the classical music charts. He took the choir through its paces to learn not just how to sing this beautiful music but also properly understand why he has chosen to commemorate the life of Norfolk’s very own First World War heroine Edith Cavell. Many of the sacred texts chosen by his poet-priest brother Rev Andrew Hawes

(who compiled the libretto) were clearly close to the heart of nurse Cavell when she was in prison in Belgium awaiting execution. These are sung alongside quotations from her letters to her family and her nurses. The whole experience is very poignant and moving.

Bob Cumber, chairman of the Society, said “None of this would have been possible without invaluable grants for the arts from Arts Council England, North Norfolk District Council Big Society Fund and the Ernest Cook Trust. Every member of the choir is hugely excited about this once in a lifetime project and greatly looking forward to sharing this wonderful music at the workshop and premiere performances.”

Workshop tickets are available from the Auden Theatre Box Office 01263 713444 at just £15 (just state Rose Villa offer when booking). Tickets for the world premiere in Norwich Cathedral can be obtained from the Theatre Royal Box Office 01603 630000 or via

Chairman of the fireworks committee Jim Bond said "once again there was a very high standard of entries making it very difficult to choose a winner, the quality of many was exceptional. It just goes to show what a fantastic setting we have in Cromer for this annual firework display".

Antony Kelly said “New Year’s Day started out a bit wet and windy but luckily as the day progressed the rain passed and it became a very mild, clear evening, which was perfect for the photographers out there, amateur and professional alike, to really take to the challenge of getting that great shot”.

He commented “Technically there’s a lot to consider when taking photos of fireworks so composition is often a second thought, but many of this year’s entries showed people had taken the time to think about the best places to set up their camera…which made the judge’s job very difficult. So difficult in fact we had to have four in the final and all deserving of a place on the podium”. First place, and winner of the adult category, went to Steve Hone of March in Cambridgeshire. Steve who was visiting Cromer especially to see the fireworks is a regular visitor to the town. Steve’s winning image will be transformed into the official event poster for

First place Steve Hone

Steve said “I'm absolutely delighted! I was persuaded to enter the competition and left it to the last day, so to win is a massive boost. I come to Cromer fairly regular, more in the summer months though, as it's nice to come for a wander and grab some fish n chips and just take in everything sitting on the pier. The summer events I try to get to, but the New Years Firework display is an absolute must, there is a great friendly atmosphere around the town, and an amazing display to finish things off”.

In the Junior category first place in the 12-16 age category went to Tessa Gibson of Cromer who wins a Nexus tablet from electrical retailer Bennetts.

In the 11 and under category first place as won by Sian Clarke from Cromer who wins a 4” Scroll tablet from Bennetts Electrical.

All the entries can be viewed on the events Facebook page ‘New Year’s Day Fireworks, Cromer’.

Judge Antony Kelly said of the winning image “I think all the judges agreed that the winning photo really did have everything ‘right’ about it. Technically spot on and great composition, it captures the tone of

Canaan Christian Centre

Nine years ago the Canaan Christian Centre in Sheringham was given a large property in Hungary on a 99 year lease.

Forty residents, mothers and their children stay in Kanaan Haz, the daughter project of Cannan, Sheringham. It was extensively renovated and took five years to turn the building from a ruin to a beautiful centre with en suite facilities for each family. However, there is always a waiting list as abuse is a big problem.

Many teams of all ages from Sheringham and Cromer have been to Hungary to work on this project which is being extended to take more families.

The garage sale held at the Canaan centre in Holt Road, Sheringham on Saturdays (weather permitting) is supporting this venture and all monies raised through the Saturday sales will be donated to this project. The money is taken to Hungary by the Project Manager, Brian Anderson who has overseen the project since its beginning. He is taking out teams in August and is in Hungary at present taking photos and establishing their needs. No money is ever taken out for administration or travel. Thank you to all who give us items to sell and to those who come and buy. Evelyn Smith, Director Please telephone 01263 478372 for further information.

An Appeal from Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club

The Sheringham & Cromer Lions are appealing for help on behalf of the victims of the devastating flooding that hit Walcott, Bacton and Happisbugh in December 2013.

One house was completely lost in Happisbugh and at least 100 homes and 12 businesses in Walcott and Bacton were badly affected by flood damage and the high winds that battered our coast at this time. Flood water surged one and a half mile in land.

The amount of work that still needs to be done is huge. There have been a few homes repaired but of those that have been damaged the householder will not be able to return home before Christmas this year. Some residents today are still without running water and electricity.

The Walcott, Bacton & Happisbugh Communities Flood Relief Group have organised support to help families who are unable to get back into their homes but there is still much more to be done and this costs time and money.

If you can help by donating money please send cheques to Lion Brian Harris, 22 Hannah Close, Sheringham NR268AY . Cheques should be made payable to Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club (Fundraising Account) and please write Floods Appeal on the reverse side. All donations large or small would be gratefully accepted. For more information or offers of help please telephone 01263 821276 or email brihaz@btinternet.com.

We wish to point out that any monies donated will go direct to the The Walcott, Bacton & Happisbugh Communities Flood Relief Group and not via any third party. The money donated to the Flood Relief Group will be go towards purchasing items that may be required for the victims plus materials to assist with the repairs of the houses and caravans. We do not know exactly how many victims had house &/or buildings insurance but we do know that some definitely cannot get insurance cover. It is also understood that the victims may be able to claim for a Government Grant but this will be for future flood defences and not for the current flood damage repairs.

Thanking you in anticipation for your support.

The Strand Club, Overstrand

Members enjoyed a nostalgic afternoon on 9 April. Jacky, our new Chairman, had written a very entertaining poem about things we remember - from Muffin the Mule to skipping ropes. It was funny and thought-provoking. Jean brought along some poignant cards, photographs and other memorabilia from the First World War and Josie an identity card and some shopping coupons. We talked about gas street lighting and admired a plaque given in memory of a much-loved dog. Chris brought a forerunner of a slide viewer given to her mother when a child in the hope of winning the love of her aunt. It didn't work! It set us all talking and laughing and was a popular choice of activity.

Josie had arranged for a cut glass wine goblet to be engraved as a token of our love and gratitude to Joyce, our retiring Chairman. We had so many contributions that we were also able to buy her a bottle of sherry and a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. Josie made a beautiful card which we all signed. A group of us then visited Joyce after the meeting and made the presentation. She was surprised and delighted with her presents and enjoyed the visit too.

Our meeting on 14 May will be our Spring Lunch. The meeting begins at 1 pm and will also include a quiz and a tabletop sale. We shall then enjoy a ploughman's plate followed by trifle. Most members wishing to come have already paid their £5 but those who haven't are asked to get the payment to Josie as soon as possible so that she can shop for the food!

We meet on the second Wednesday of every month except August in the Methodist Church in Overstrand. The meetings begin at 2.30pm and we are always delighted to see visitors, whose entry fee of £1.50 covers tea, biscuits and a raffle prize.

Cromer and Sheringham Probus Club

The chairman, Dave Vickery, welcomed four guests, fellow members, and the guest speaker at the lunch-time meeting on 1 March. As usual, it was held at the Links Hotel in West Runton and the food was excellent.

The guest speaker was Daniel Adams of One Traveller Holidays, based in Swaffham, which specialises in holidays for mature lone travellers. Daniel explained some of the features of their holidays that make them particularly suited to people wishing to travel on their own but enjoy the security and company of a group. His talk contained many interesting and amusing anecdotes from his career in the travel industry and was delivered in an informal style.

The next meeting is on 6 May, which is an opportunity for members to bring their wives and other guests, either male or female. The speaker will be Greg Powles, who currently presents an afternoon show on weekdays for Radio Norwich. Fortunately, we booked him before he started this, so he is taking a day off especially to come to talk to us. His talk is rather mysteriously called “It’s not what you think it is- not much of a clue to the content but Greg is an experienced writer and performer who will surely entertain us on the day.

Prospective members or members of other Probus clubs are welcome to come along to enjoy the meal, the talk and the company of Probus members. The club is open to gentlemen who are retired or nearly so. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact Dave Vickery on 01263 824306 for more information.

CROMER MUSIC EVENINGS

REVIEW OF CONCERT HELD ON SUNDAY, 30 MARCH 2014 BOGDAN VACARESCU (VIOLIN) & HEIDI PARSONS (CELLO) The two artists engaged by Cromer Music Evenings for the second time within 16 months again performed with virtuoso brilliance, works by Beethoven, Bach, Honegger, Ysaye, Halverson and Paganini. Although the programme did not run as printed, and that one or two pieces from their first visit were repeated, it became irrelevant and cancelled out any negative thoughts which were overcome by the sheer mastery of their respective instruments. The well attended audience witnessed the wondrous capabilities of each of the stringed instruments, especially in Niccolo Paganini’s Nel cor piu mi sento for solo violin and Cello suite No 3 in C Minor by J S Bach. Despite the experience of absorbing the artistry of these players in these two complex compositions, the highlight for me being the four Two Part Inventions written for piano or harpsichord which, having been arranged for violin and cello, proved to be - in their contrasted simplicity, to what has gone before and after - the wonderful effect Bach’s writings, whatever textures he used, and however complex they are, has a profound effect on all who participate in performance and composition, whether it be classical and yes, even jazz. Friends of Cromer Museum

The last of our winter season of talks focused on the career of Sir Edgar Speyer, a figure well known to visitors to Sea Marge in Overstrand, built by Speyer in 1902 as a holiday home. Speyer was the head of the House of Speyer, a well known merchant bank in pre-1914 London and his remarkable career was outlined to an audience of over 70 by Professor Tony Lentin from Cambridge University. Speyer was the man responsible for saving from bankruptcy the company that was building the London underground system at the end of the 19th century. When the company financing the Proms seasons in London went bust Speyer stepped in and with the help of Henry Wood allowed the world famous series of concerts to continue. Speyer helped to finance Captain Scott’s expeditions to Antarctica and when Scott’s body was eventually found included in his possessions was a letter the explorer had written to Speyer thanking him for his support. Speyer helped to support Poplar Hospital in East London and worked there every Tuesday afternoon. He helped to finance Whitechapel Art Gallery, also in East London, so that working men and women could appreciate fine art. Speyer’s reward for his philanthropy was to be hounded out of the country when the First World War began. Although he was

a naturalised British subject he was of German origin and when hostilities began and some east coast towns came under attack from the German navy a whispering campaign began both in Overstrand and London suggesting Speyer was a spy. No evidence was ever produced to back up these rumours but influential Conservative MPs and the newspaper barons Northcliffe and Beaverbrook were prepared to go along with them possibly for no other reason than that Speyer was a friend of the Liberal Prime Minister Asquith. Speyer’s house in London was mobbed after the sinking of the liner “Lusitania” in 1915 and later the same year Speyer decided to leave the country and settle in the USA. After the war he was stripped of his British citizenship. At no time were his pre-war activities taken into account. He returned to the USA where he died in 1932. Speyer was the victim of totally unjustified hostility. His main crime seems to have been not standing up robustly enough to his critics. His German and political connections were enough to bring POOL 1 about the end of a Water too cold career that had conToo crowded tributed so much to Lack of privacy pre-1914 Britain.

We opened our meeting with a minutes silence for an ex member Barbara Easton who passed away last month.

Our Speaker this month was Stephen Lockett whose talk was entitled “Working as a Volunteer at the Tate Gallery”. He told us of the history of the Tate Britain and Tate Modern galleries in London. He used slides to show us the buildings and some of the exhibits. The Tate Britain was built on the sight of the old Millbank prison and the Tate Modern on the sight of an old power station and was founded by Henry Tate of the sugar refinery family. Stephen gave us a great insight to the work he has

to do, mainly at the Tate Modern and he told us of the new building work in place at the moment so they can increase the collection.

After tea we had the rest of the meeting and final arrangements were made for a river trip in Norwich in June. Jill Betz gave us a very detailed report of our Federation Meeting in Norwich last month. Our competition was a lovely display of Eater Bonnets and was won by Pat Fisher, with Yvonne Mileham second and Judy Roberts third.

Our meeting next month is our Resolution meeting and we will discuss the proposal that will go to our National Meeting in Leeds in June. New members are always welcome on the second Thursday of the month at 2pm in the Community Hall in Garden Street.

Making a Splash with Special Olympics Norfolk

Norfolk’s Special Olympics group is making waves with the launch of a new swimming section adding to the growing range of sports it offers.

Open to children and adults with intellectual disabilities as well as offering volunteering opportunities, the new group will be meeting every Sunday at Wymondham Leisure Centre from 5pm to 6pm.

“The new group will give keen swimmers the chance to compete regionally, nationally and internationally, and provide them with a lot of fun as well as exercise,” explained Special Olympics Norfolk volunteer co-ordinator

In association with www.cromerdeals.co.uk

Kay Bailey.

Special Olympics was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the sister of President John F Kennedy, who believed that the Olympic ideals of sport could give confidence and new hope to people with learning disabilities as well as to those who cared for them. Special Olympics now reaches over 4.2 million athletes in 170 countries worldwide.

…where the spring clean was very successful. A large number of club members were at the green laying the matting in the ditches, staining and painting benches, trimming grass, clearing pathways and much much more. A number of ladies kept the workers outside on and around the green fortified with tea, coffee and the unmissable bacon rolls. The previous week had seen the final of John the Birders quiz which saw the team of Edna Bunkle, Tom Bunkle, Keith Pantling and Peter Bird triumph by only some 5 points over Sally Tipple, Roger Tipple, Pat Pantling and Roger Purser. A very close final all the way through and a well organised evening with supporters staying to the bitter end. Thank you all. Edna will have held her final quiz by the time you read this. Next winter season we have been promised yet another quiz master as Jack the Painter has come forward as a volunteer, now that will be a challenge for us all, thanks Jack. Also the Wednesday short mat bowls came to an end with organiser John once again winning the competition for the Short Mat Cup. Keith had a fishing day at his favourite fishing lake and claims to have caught 31 fish.

The teams of three are drawn for team and position for each of three separate games of 7 ends enquiries@cromergiftshop.co.uk each. Players keep their own individual scores and the player/players with the best shot difference are declared the winner/s. The ladies of the club will be congregating on the green on the afternoon of Wednesday 30th April for what has become known as their ‘Chummy afternoon’. President Bernice will be trying out her new green bowls brought back specially from Australia and I am sure will be pleased to see our new lady members joining in the afternoon play. During the next two weeks it is mostly league matches being played on the green. The first club friendly is in fact away from home at CMB BC at Wisbech on Sunday 11th May. The club will be organising a coach for the trip and a number of non-playing club members will come along to support the team. Morning roll ups continue as do the free Friday evenings on the green for anyone who would like to come along and try out the game.
