Cromer RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Boathouse Opens for Public Viewing Covering Cromer, Mundesley, the Runtons and surrounding villages in association with the North Walsham Times and Sheringham Independent
Cromer RNLI will be opening its original boathouse on the East Promenade on weekends from May 9th (weather, launches and crew permitting).
Come along and see our inshore lifeboat ‘George and Muriel’ on our open days. The boathouse on the East Promenade by the Henry Blogg Museum will be welcoming visitors. This historic building dates from 1867 replacing an older building, which was approximately 100 metres from the present area.
This new boathouse work also included building an extension to the sea walls and a slipway across the top of the beach. The work cost £476.4s.0d and was carried out by a local builder by the name of E. Simmons. The cost of the station was met by Benjamin Bond Cabbell who had also bought a new lifeboat for the station at the same time.

Cromer RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Boathouse Opens for Public Viewing
Continued from front cover... Since then the volunteer crews at Cromer have gained a record of gallantry stretching back to the beginnings of the RNLI. Some of the most notable rescues and service have been carried out by famous coxswains such as Henry Blogg and Henry "Shrimp" Davies and their crews, (to date there have been awards of 45 Bronze medals, eight Silver medals and three Gold medals). The station operated two offshore boats from 1923. The second boat was replaced by an inshore lifeboat (ILB) in 1967.

Ted Luckin is one of the few remaining members of the RNLI team based in Cromer, who can remember Henry Blogg. Ted will be answering questions along with other volunteers when it is open. He said, “I have been associated with the RNLI since 1960 and I recall the days when this was the main lifeboat station. I can also remember before there was a tractor, when the lifeboat had to be pushed into the sea just by manpower”.
At present the building houses a ‘D’ Class Inshore Life Boat, the ‘George and Muriel’, which has been based in Cromer since 2011.
The All-Weather Lifeboat is housed in the boathouse at the end of the pier.

Balcony House, Church Street, Cromer originally built by Mr H Mace in the 1880’s, has recently undergone a complete transformation. Mr Mace was an antique furniture dealer, picture dealer and accredited local photographer, having photographed a number of well-known people, including Royalty. It would seem Princess Victoria was one of his regular customers, and she used to frequently inspect his antiques and pictures which stood outside his shop all along the wall.
Balcony House has recently been purchased and given a very overdue refurbishment. The building now offers totally modernised retail units on the ground floor, with character flats above. Watsons have already let one of the shop units and expect strong interest in the other. The flats are also now available to rent in this beautiful old historic part of Cromer.

News from the White Horse Overstrand with Head Chef Nathan Boon
The evenings are ‘pulling out’ and the warmer weather means our garden is becoming ever more used by families. Mum and Dad can enjoy a relaxing drink while the children play and the family lunch or evening meal will be served to their table in the sun. Older children can also enjoy a game of pool in our pool room although we do ask that they are supervised while they are playing. We want everyone enjoy their time at the White Horse so I always advise everyone to book their table in advance particularly at weekends and at busy times like Bank Holidays. We have an exciting summer ahead of us including our Strictly Norfolk week in July and Beer Festival in August. Remove from heat when a jam consistency is achieved. Allow to cool and store in sealed jars in the fridge. New ‘Seaside Chef of the Year’ Award Up For Grabs seaside chef, other than celebrity and TV chefs, and those working in by Norfolk Chefs restaurant or hotel chains who do not have control over their menus. The
Seaside chefs in Norfolk can now battle it out to put their resort on Britain’s culinary map, thanks to a new ‘Seaside Chef of the Year Award’ created by England and Wales’ ‘Best Bistro.
Aspect Bar and Bistro, in the Lancashire seaside resort of Morecambe, scooped its national title in the FOOD Awards 2014. It is now seeking to champion fine and quality dining experiences in other seaside resorts, to help change the public perception of food served by the seaside.
Its new Seaside Chef of the Year competition is open for entry to any
competition has a list of resorts from which it would expect chefs to come.
To enter, an eatery or chef needs to submit a menu, on paper, under three headings: First Fathom (starter); Full Tide (main course) and Ocean’s Heaven (dessert). The menu does not need to be based on seafood, but should have a distinctly local flavour. The menu submission should include details of how the dishes would be presented and priced and show a commitment to quality dining. Chefs should also highlight which local produce is used and can enclose photos of their dishes.
Aylsham Heritage Centre evening talks
Aylsham Heritage Centre’s popular series of evening talks continues in May featuring two more events with a local flavour. Local author Peter Goodrum is first up, on Wednesday 20th May, with an illustrated presentation about Norwich in the 1950s and 60s. Peter will be drawing on the content of his well-researched books on this subject, promising an entertaining evening. The cost of the talk is just £4 and the evening starts at 7pm.

Our county is renowned throughout Britain for the large concentration of artists in all media and food specialists all of whom have set up their own small businesses making and promoting their unique products. They depend on YOU the public, to visit local fairs and exhibitions where you might be tempted to buy or you may even commission a unique item for your own home using their skills – an item which will be unique to your home and the only example in the world.
One such exhibition will take place in the wonderful grounds of Felbrigg Hall, a hidden National Trust treasure close to Cromer on the 27th May between the hours of 11am and 5pm.
We can promise you a wide range of stands (as we go to press 30-40), ranging from locally produced food and preserves, artwork from photography to hand made pottery, glasswork, aromatherapy oils and a further wide range of interesting objects. Bring cash or your cheque book since you are bound to be tempted and since it is an outside venue cards will be impossible to use. In attending such an event and being tempted to buy you will be helping local producers to run their own little businesses and leading to future expansion of small businesses a key part of Britain’s recovery.
If you have the time don’t miss a visit to the walled garden at Felbrigg considered to one of the best in the entire NT trust portfolio and of course the Hall itself is also open to the public on Wednesdays.
There is adequate car parking available (not always the case in North Norfolk) and if you don’t want to visit the Hall itself, bring your dog and have a wonderful walk through the extensive estate. There is also a wonderfully restored restaurant at Felbrigg Hall. 8

North Norfolk Classic Vehicle Club produced a tremendous turnout form this year’s ‘National Drive it Day’ event for classic vehicles.

Sunday 26 April saw some 330 classics roll into the Station Road car park in Sheringham where crews picked up their tulip style route instructions.
Two scenic routes of approximately 50 miles each were split 50/50 between entrants with the final destination being the Royal Estate, Sandringham where the vehicles parked up in the large grass area in front of the church of St Mary of Magdalene.

A somewhat forbidding forecast in the run up to Sunday luckily came to nothing, and the day turned out to be basically dry with some good sunny spells during the afternoon which made for a very convivial atmosphere among the entrants.
Proceeds from the run were collected on behalf of the East Anglian Air Ambulance with a record of just over £5,000 being taken.
Sponsorship for the route maps and photographs was kindly provided by Anglia Car Auction at Kings Lynn (next Classic Car auction date is Saturday 13 June) and a huge debt of Cromer Ladies Lifeboat Guild Awards gratitude must go to the Sandringham Estate The Cromer Ladies Lifeboat Guild annual general meeting, held for providing such a on 30th April 2015, saw two of its long serving members receive magnificent setting. prestigious National Awards in recognition of their long service and outstanding contribution to RNLI fundraising.
Life President, Mrs Daisy Spurgeon, received a Gold Bar to her Gold Badge (only 29 people in Britain will receive this award) and Chairman, Mrs Beryl Mansell, received a Silver Badge.
Daisy has been a member of the Guild since its inception in 1973. She was the inaugural Treasurer and then became the Chairman in 1979. She held this role until 2006 and is the longest serving Chairman to date. On her retirement from the role of Chairman, she was invited to become Life President, an honorary role, which she happily accepted. Daisy has worked tirelessly for the Guild, for over 40 years, and her commitment and dedication are admirable. She still takes an active role, chairs the annual AGM, and provides invaluable support to both the Committee and the Guild.
Beryl also joined the Guild in the 1970s. She was a hardworking and reliable committee member for many years before taking on roles of greater responsibility. She initially took on the role of Social Secretary and was responsible for organising many successful events, followed by a five year period as the Treasurer. After a break, Beryl returned to the Guild and in 2010, she took on her current role as Chairman. She has guided and steered the Guild to achieve exceptional results over the last few years, during a difficult economic time, resulting in thousands of pounds being raised for the RNLI. Indeed, the 2014 – 2015 figures showed the highest annual fundraising total to date!
The presentation ceremony was introduced by Mr Tony Webster, Cromer RNLI Station Chairman, the awards were presented by Mr John Davies, Cromer RNLI Coxswain and the flowers and cards were presented by Mrs Barbara Mayes, a founder member of the Guild. Cromer Times 470 May 23rd 2015

Sheringham Players Summer Production
Following their very successful spring production of Ménage à Trois, Sheringham Players’ summer production is "Flying Feathers", a farce by Derek Benfield.
The play runs from 17- 20th June at Sheringham Little Theatre from 7.30pm and tickets are now available from the theatre box office for just £10.
The play is set in the peaceful country house of the late lamented Bernard, brother to Chief Constable Henry Potterton and his sister, Sarah. When they come to visit, they are astonished to find several scantily clad ladies wandering about, not knowing that during Bernard's 10
temporary absence on a religious commune in the Orkneys, his housekeeper, Nora Winthrop, has turned the place into ‘a house of sin’. As Nora is not expecting a visit from the Constable, and is fearful of the questions he will ask, she hastily tries to hide the truth from him. This leads to many hilarious comings and goings involving one of her clients, who is dressed as a vicar, a window cleaner in a laundrette basket and a meek solicitor on horseback - not to mention the aforesaid scantily clad ladies. When Bernard also turns up from the Orkneys (or from heaven?), and it is seen that he and Henry are identical twins, the household is thrown into further confusion and chaos leading to an unexpected climax. With the chimney ablaze and the medieval thatched roof ready to follow her cry for help was met by not just one but three of our fire stations – Stalham, North Walsham and Norwich all rushed to her aid.
Eunice was so grateful and so impressed by their brilliant job that she pledged to raise money for their charity to say a big thank you.
Following the fire she was deeply touched by the local community helping her to recover within a day, so to thank everyone it was party time, she says “ all my customers are truly my friends and it seemed the whole village was there to support me”.
Eunice is a lady from the Ivory Coast in West Africa
and with a vibrant personality. She knows how to have a party and how to create exciting foods so then it was time for another party to raise the money she had promised.
Again friends rallied round, one arranged for a whole Lamb to arrive, another created a barbecue complete with rotisserie and Eunice worked her wonders in creating a delicious dish of Lamb marinated with all spices that only she knows of from her home country.

North Norfolk artists are on the trail again!
The group of artists, known as The Cromer 8, (even though they have now grown to 10... confused? So are they!), living in and around Cromer, have for the second year joined together to form an art trail for this year’s Open Studios event.
The Cromer Tourist Information Centre will be partnering the Cromer 8 and will be displaying artists’ work in their window and also running a prize draw for artists’ greetings cards. In addition, Photo: Dave Morris The Garden House Gallery in Garden Street, Cromer, will be holding a taster exhibition of artists’ work from 3 to 9 May. A selection of the Cromer 8’s work will be on display and visitors will also be able to see artwork that will be used as prizes in a prize draw at the artists’ home studios, during the Open Studios Event. There will be a total of ten pieces of artwork that can be won along the trail of studios.
The artists taking part in the trail are Joy Cole, Gita Dickenson, Leslie Hawkes Nockels, Robert Downie, Keith Nash, Ruth Brumby, Bob Crook, Norman Mackie, Sue Hammans and Desmond Clover.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
I am happy to advise that Verity, the lovely black cat mentioned last time has also now found a loving new home.
Next month we will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of the meeting held in the Community Centre to find willing cat loving volunteers to set up a branch of Cats Protection to help cats in North Walsham and District area. So much has happened in the intervening years and as well as finding loving new homes for over 3000 cats and kittens, we have had fantastic support for the work that we do from so many people and companies and we are very grateful for all their help. Our volunteers work so very hard to ensure we can continue to help needy cats in the area and long may this continue.
We have over the years noticed that you will often have lots of cats of a particular age or colour coming into care over a short period of time and then go for a long time before seeing anything similar. We know that we will always have lots of lovely black cats coming into care of varying ages but often find that nearly every other cat will be of one particular

colour. Last year, for example, we had a larger than usual number of white cats whereas this year there have been none. Again, last year we only had three older cats come into care compared to 10 already this year, (three of which have already been re-homed). Cats like Simba (10 years), a lovely ginger boy and Benji (9) and pale ginger and white lad who arrived because their owners have died, or Sweep (12) a very friendly black boy who was living as a stray after his owner went into a home. Another of our older cats is Mange Tout(10), another ginger lad who needs to lose a little more weight before we can put him up for adoption. As cats to live much longer nowadays, giving a home to an older cat is definitely worth considering especially for us older cat lovers looking to give one a new home.

Rabbits are now Britain’s 3rd most popular pet.
They are an intelligent species that need company and plenty of mental stimulation. Preventative healthcare for rabbits is just as important as it is for Dogs and Cats. A combined vaccination is available to protect against the 2 most common diseases, Myxomatosis and RHD both of which can be fatal. Owners need to be aware of other diseases, like dental malocclusion and potential problems such as Fly Strike, especially with the warmer weather approaching. Rabbits need checking at least twice a day to prevent this extremely distressing and often fatal disease. It occurs when rabbits back ends become soiled with faeces, this attracts the flies which then lay their eggs on the fur and skin. The maggots then hatch and start eating the skin and surrounding tissue, releasing toxins which make the rabbit unwell. If rabbits are left unchecked in the warm weather this can prove fatal as so much skin and tissue can be lost. Some interesting rabbit facts:
Rabbits thump their hind legs when the feel threatened or can sense danger approaching Rabbits do have a voice – they communicate by humming to indicate affection Rabbits can jump 1m high and up to 3m long Rabbits teeth are open rooted – this means they never stop growing and they rely on chewing action to wear them down Rabbits cannot vomit Rabbits jump and twist when they are happy this is called ‘binkying’ Rabbits can see behind them without turning their heads however they cannot see straight in front of their nose!

Cromer Head Coach runs London Marathon
Chris Cash, the head tennis coach at Cromer Tennis & Squash Club took to the streets of London on Sunday 26 April representing the Get Kids Going Association. This society helps disabled children to take part in varied sports including tennis and gives them opportunities they would not otherwise be able to do.
Chris, or Cashy, to his friends is a level five LTA Tennis coach and is also a registered LTA coach for the deaf and has worked for many years to get children with disabilities involved in playing sports at all levels.
Chris has been training for many months to take part in this year’s London Marathon and has overcome difficulties with a pulled hamstring earlier in the year.
Chris was followed on route in the Cromer clubhouse both by fellow club members and on the marathon app which allowed tracking to take place.
Chris was sponsored by fellow members’ donations both at Cromer and in Rugby and we will report on what Chris was able to donate to the get Kids Going Association as soon as we find out.

Diving for MSTCN
On the 20th of June this year, I will be completing a tandem Sky Dive for the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre Norfolk (MSTCN). Joining me for this are more than 20 others, including my sister-in-law, Leanne Harrington and close friends Victoria Craske, The Flying Foulsers: Sandra, Barry and Nathan for his 16th birthday present and Charlie Pearce for his 18th. All bravely, (or stupidly) raising funds for this good cause.
Ten years ago I was diagnosed with MS and the bottom of my world fell out. What better way to prove to myself and to others that life goes on than to actively raise awareness and funds for this great charity? I have MS, MS doesn’t have me!

Free Puppy Socialisation with Animal Magic Dog Club
The minute you pick up your new puppy the clock is ticking as you only have until they are approximately sixteen weeks old to expose them to new experiences before the fear and anxiety neural pathways become fully formed in their brains.
Bronwen Bell Club Manager of Animal Magic Dog Club said “We cannot stress enough the importance of early socialisation, for example; show an eight week old puppy a hoover, motorbike or a donkey and it will take encounters with these in its stride for the rest of its life. But wait until its six months old and you could have a dog that is fearful all of its life. Statistics show that the number of people requiring treatment following a dog bite are increasing year on year, often caused by under-socialisation of the dog at an early age.
At Animal Magic Dog Club, we take puppy socialisation seriously and we work closely with Toll Barn and Miramar Vets to provide FREE puppy socialisation workshops for puppies not yet fully vaccinated. We also offer FREE puppy events such as walks and playgroups for vaccinated puppies that have attended the workshops.
A healthy, well socialised puppy is a happy puppy and a happy puppy equals a happy owner. Dogs bring such joy into our lives that they deserve the very best start to their life with you so with this in mind we’ve created a number of fun activities for puppies and their owners.

Win a Magnum of Champagne at the Blickling Proms 1940s Party
The sights and sounds of the 1940s will fill the air on Saturday 8 August, when Blickling Hall is playing host to the “Last Night of the Blickling Proms” for the 4th year running. Now firmly established as a favourite in the county calendar, this year’s event is celebrating the special 75th anniversary of Blickling Hall being handed over to the National Trust in 1940, and organisers are planning a host of treats to put concert-goers in the mood.
The Grace Spitfire will introduce the evening with a choreographed routine to Ron Goodwin’s “Battle of Britain” which will then lead in to other well-loved music from the era including “Moonlight Serenade” by Glenn Miller, the main theme from “Gone with the Wind”, “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” and “We’ll Meet Again”, made famous by Forces’ Sweetheart, Dame Vera Lynn when she performed at outdoor concerts for the troops in the Second World War. The second half will include some rousing Proms favourites and organisers are delighted to welcome the Norfolk Belles WI choir to the stage as part of their centenary celebrations, to sing “Jerusalem” which will be a proud moment for all. A is customary at these events, audience participation will be heartily encouraged.

As well as the iconic Spitfire that was used by the Royal Air Force and other allied forces during
the Second World War, visitors will also be spoilt with a fly-past by a 1940s Tiger Moth, the primary training aircraft for the RAF and others at that time, remaining in service with them until the early 1950s.
“It’s going to be a special year for Blickling”, says Jo Bosch, Marketing and Visitor Manager at the National Trust Blickling Estate. “We have some fresh and exciting things up our sleeves and the Proms is one of the year’s signature events; we’re so pleased that the 2015 concert theme will help us to tell the story.”

Olly Day stars in Probus celebration triumph
The performance at Cromer & Sheringham Probus Club’s 40th Anniversary Celebration by Olly Day was “entertainment personified” according to one of the Probus members present. Almost 100 members and guests attended at the Links Hotel in West Runton on 5th May. The host club had extended an invitation to the Holt and Kelling Probus Clubs to join the celebration and they were both well represented. As a result, seating arrangements could be made for each table to have 25 Tucker Street Cromer members of at least two clubs dining to(behind the church) gether. Voyager and Age UK
Voyager Community Group in North Walsham and Age UK North Norfolk have joined forces to create the new ‘Voyager Keep in Touch’ activity group with an aim of lessening loneliness in our community by encouraging people to get out and about, meet new people, have a natter over a cuppa and to hopefully make new friends; thus leading them to become less socially isolated. Our hope is to give people the opportunity to engage in new activities, enhance their creative skills, and with any luck their confidence; to learn something new and to have a little fun along the way.
The launch party is completely FREE to attend and is being held at the Church Room on Vicarage Street in North Walsham on Wednesday the 3rd of June 2015. It starts at St Nicholas at 12 noon and there will be a FREE buffet lunch as well as live entertainment from the local group the Squeegees who will be playing popular music from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

THE NORTH NORFOLK GARDENER FORGET-ME-NOTS
rivulet, or spring or wet roadside, That blue and bright-eyed flowerlet of the brook, Hope’s gentle gem, the sweet Forget-me-not’.
The genus name, Myosotis, is derived from the Greek words for mouse and ear and refers to the soft erect leaves, resembling the ears of a mouse. The origin of the common name forget-me-not is not so clear. Some link it to the tragic German tale of a chivalrous knight, clad in heavy armour, slipping into the torrents of a violent stream while picking a few of the blooms growing along the water’s edge. As he is carried away he casts a handful of flowers onto the bank, crying ‘forget me not’ to his helpless lady.
These references probably describe the water forget-me-not, one of fifty species of Myosotis. All are annual or perennial herbs with alternate, hairy leaves and small salver-shaped flowers that are predominately blue, pink or white. The perennials are rather short-lived, and for garden use are usually grown as biennials. The usual garden choice is M. Sylvatica in its many varieties and it is extremely easy to grow from seed.
Forget-me-nots are strongly associated with the English cottage garden style, to which their propensity to self-sow lends itself perfectly. They cover the bare ground in spring, but also form a unifying theme throughout the garden. The blue flowers hugging the ground make an excellent foil for other plants, like the acid-lime-green euphorbias and the rich reds and oranges of tulips such as ‘Red Georgette’
Coleridge popularised the name in his poem ‘The Keepsake’ in the early nineteenth century: Nor can I find, amid my lonely walk, By
and ‘Ballerina’. Not difficult to grow, forget-me-nots will thrive in any good garden soil as long as there is plenty of moisture. Powdery mildew can be a problem in dry conditions, but in general not until the end of the flowering season.
These plants are extremely sensitive to nutrient deficiencies, and can therefore be useful indicators of problem areas. Poor soil conditions will cause stunted growth and discolouration of the leaves. Under stress the flowers often change colour from blue to pink, and this very often happens when plants have been moved in full flower.
At the end of their flowering season plants can be pulled out as soon as they become tatty or mildewed. Do not worry about the seed being ripe, forget-me-nots have such a long flowering season that by the time they have lost their looks enough seed will have set for next year’s plants. Easy and rewarding forget-me-nots deserve to be remembered and grown in every garden. Bob Wilkinson

Overstrand Gardening club are looking forward to their summer trip on Thursday 25th June to Howards Nursery, a family run nursery with 45 years of experience. They have 150 acres of field grown perennials as well as an extensive glasshouse growing area. They have been involved with the world renowned Chelsea Flower Show for several years, supplying plants for gardens and were part of the Gold Medal winning Team, for Adam Frosts garden “Seeds of Change”. This year they are busy planning their own display for the first time.

For the penultimate concert in the current series, Cromer Music Evenings presented two artists of consummate skill, evident after just four bars of Debussy’s Sonata for cello and piano which was chosen for the opening piece, where the rapport between the two was immediate - captivating, even awe inspiring, the interpretation was so magnificent in dealing with the technical demands of Debussy’s colouristic writings in which the listener can imagine what they will, during the impressionistic compositions of Debussy’s style.

The major work in the concert being Rachmaninov’s Sonata for cello and piano Op 19 in four movements, proved to be a sheer delight - not in just the wonder of Rachmaninov’s music, but in witnessing such an accomplished performance from both players of this immense and demanding work, in which the pianist is challenged to perform such difficult rhythms, glorious eight note chords with delicate lyrical textures in the upper register of the piano - and the cellist soared above all this with a directness of the melodic lines - producing such a beautiful depth and warmth of tone and emotion.
A wonderful performance to end this concert, which I hope will be remembered by all present as one of the very best, enjoyed within the delightful Music Room at Templewood.

Sheringham & Cromer Choral Society - Rehearsal Accompanist
Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society (SCCS) is seeking a Rehearsal Accompanist to commence duties in September 2015. The choir rehearses at Sheringham High School each Monday during term time from 7.30pm to 9pm. The Accompanist would be required to attend and accompany all rehearsals on the piano, as required by the Musical Director. Ideally, the Accompanist should be competent to provide cover for the Musical Director in case of need. The Accompanist would be expected to work closely with the Musical Director in the choice of music to be performed and, when appropriate, assist the Musical Director in the preparation of rehearsal schedules etc. The opportunity may arise to perform at concerts and provide accompaniment at occasional ‘Come and Sing’ events.
It would be expected that the appointee would play a full part in the running of the choir. SCCS is a registered charity administered by a Committee of Trustees. Each year the choir performs three concerts in the locality with professional soloists and either orchestra or organ accompaniment and also runs a 'Come and Sing' event in the autumn. The repertoire is varied but has consisted, in the main, of major choral works from the 17th to 21st century. In recent years, concerts have ranged from Bach’s B Minor Mass to Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and, in 2014, Patrick Hawes’ Eventide (In Memoriam Edith Cavell) with English Chamber Orchestra, which was especially commissioned by SCCS.

Cromer Cemetery
Please be advised that the 18 month programme of identifying and labelling unauthorised items on graves has progressed and arrangements to remove unauthorised items are underway. Items which have been removed have been clearly labelled and put into secure storage. Families concerned are asked to contact the Town Council office to make an appointment to collect items. The removal of unauthorised items will be continuing over the forthcoming weeks. Cromer War Memorial
The project to restore Cromer War Memorial includes the inscription of the names of those who gave their lives in service during WW2. Members of the public may sponsor the cutting of the names at the cost of £10 per letter. Individual letters or whole names may be sponsored. Please contact the Town Council office for further information.

Flying of Cromer Town Flag for Special Occasions
Members of the public wishing to mark a special birthday or anniversary are now able to arrange for the Cromer Town Flag to be flown on the flagpole in Cromer Churchyard. A fee of £25 will be charged and all proceeds will go towards the repair/replacement of Cromer’s WWI War Memorial. Details will be tweeted on the Town Council twitter page @north_lodge on the day the flag is flown. Application forms are available from the Town Council Office, by email to admin@cromertown.org and will also be available on the Town Council Website.

Cromer Christmas Events Committee are looking for volunteers to show case their talents for face painting at their Christmas event on Saturday 5th December 2015. If you are interested please contact the Town Clerk. Bookings are now being taken for charity and trade stalls for Sat 05 Dec and are also being taken for the Christmas Tree and Nativity Festival which opens on Weds 02 Dec and runs until the Christmas Lights Event on Sat 05 Dec. This year, in addition to the trees and nativities, we are inviting people to sponsor Christmas wreaths which will be displayed on the ends of the pews in the centre aisle of the Church. Fitness League Ladies perform at the Albert Hall
On Saturday 2 May, the Fitness League held a festival at the Royal Albert Hall and some of the ladies from the Overstrand class were very excited to be able to take part.
It was a wonderful day of fitness and friendship, celebrating 85 years of the organization. Their patron, Sophie Ellis Bextor, was there with her grandmother to open the festival and award prizes.
Overstrand’s teacher, Laura Duncan, said “It was fantastic to be able to take part in the event alongside Fitness League members from all over the country and from around the world. I am very proud to be a teacher for the Fitness League and of the ladies from my class who were involved in the festival.”
As well as the main show, there were master classes, pampering sessions and many other activities, which made it a day to remember.
Fitness League classes use the Bagot Stack system of exercise, which is posture based, focusing on flexibility, mobility, strength and stamina. They are dance based, fun, friendly and accessible to all. Classes take place on Monday and Thursday evenings in the Parish Hall in Overstrand at 7pm. hot and sunny, the company was great and the result was a win for Cromer by three shots. So a good start for Captain Keith and his friendly team. Russell was so carried away with his game and the enjoyment of it all that he went home in his bowls shoes and had to come to the club on the following Monday to bring them back. This resulted in Bob Treasure admitting that he had started the game before he had changed into his bowls shoes.

... And the league games and friendly games have now started. The Hansells League team travelled to R G Carter to play their ‘B’ team and came away with a very good 3 – 2 win. This was a somewhat generous result as we only had one winning rink out of the three. Thanks to Richard and his rink of players who claimed a very high score the overall result went in our favour. The first game in the Federation League was one of the two long distance away trips facing the club this season. Away to Wootton Park, Kings Lynn the result was a 0 – 9 defeat. On a very windy evening on a challenging green against a strong team we were unable to claim even a point. The team is hoping that in better conditions at home later in the season we may be able to achieve a much better result.
