About the Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Salem embodies the very best of The Salvation Army’s service and mission impact for the 21st century. The Salvation Army is committed to producing tangible outcomes that will build character, confidence and competence in children and families of Marion & Polk Counties. The Kroc Community Centers purpose is to promote wellness, encourage excellence, build character and inspire faith.

Meet the Colonels As Salvation Army officers, Lt. Colonel’s Ron and Pam Strickland retired after 35 years of active service on September 1, 2011. Lt. Col. Ron Strickland was commissioned as an officer in 1978 with the “Disciples of Jesus” session. His first appointment was at the School for Officer’s Training as House Officer and as Finance Officer. Lt. Col. Pam Strickland was commissioned in the Central Territory in 1969 with the “Evangelist” session. After their marriage in 1970, the Stricklands lived in Santa Barbara, CA prior to entering the School for Officer’s Training in the Western Territory in September 1976. Lt. Col. Ron Strickland graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration. In 1992, Lt. Col. Ron Strickland was appointed to The Salvation Army’s International College for Officers (ICO) in London. This is an eight-week specialized course of study with other Salvation Army officers from around the world. In 2001, Lt. Col. Pam Strickland also had the opportunity of sharing with International Officers at ICO. The Stricklands have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

For ages 0 - 17. Applications for youth memberships require the signature and identification of a parent or legal guardian at the time of enrollment. When a minor turns 18, membership rates automatically increase to the adult rate.

MEET YOUR MINISTRY TEAM! Major Tammy Ray, was born in Compton, CA to Salvation Army Officer Parents. Her Salvation Army heritage traces back six generations on one side of her family and five generation on the other. Major Kevin Ray was born in Omaha, NE to a Baptist family. After high school he attended Central College in

McPherson, KS where he met fellow student, Major Tammy. Majors Kevin and Tammy married December 30, 1989. Shortly afterward, they accepted a Youth Ministry position in Monterey, CA and followed God’s call to become Salvation Army Officers. Since 1994 the Rays have served in Longview and Centralia, WA, Mesa and Sierra Vista, AZ, Clovis, NM and most recently,

followed God’s will to serve the last 5 years in The Dalles, OR. The Rays have three children.

Major Moises Guerrero was born in California, He moved to Mexico in his youth to learn the language and culture. While in Mexico, he met Major Alicia who he married in 1971. Soon afterward, Majors Moises and Alicia moved to California.

The Majors first embraced The Salvation Army in 1977 followed by God’s call to become officers in 1988. In their 22 years as active officers in the Western Territory, Majors Moises and Alicia have served 19 years as corps officers and 3 years as Chaplains in the Adult Rehabilitation Command. The Guerrero’s have four children, 9 grandchildren

Thanks to a collaborative grant from The United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley, The Salvation Army in partnership with Polk County Family and Community Outreach, Family Building Blocks, Polk Community Development Corporation, and Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency will be housing a Family Support Coach at our Dallas Location to support households with Financial Literacy. In addition, United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley awarded The Salvation Army with 26,000 dollars ( 2 years ) to allow kids from Polk and Marion County to attend our Community Back-to-School Basic Clothing Excursion.

RJ’S PRESCHOOL, PRE-KINDERGARTEN, & KINDERGARTEN introduces your little ones to the world of school and classmates in a safe and loving Christ-centered environment. Students who enroll in RJ’s Preschool and Kindergarten will benefit from the small class sizes, field trips, class performances, 1:10 student to teacher ratio, and educational activities utilizing the Salem Kroc Center Facilities throughout the school day. Our program offers an environment rich in new learning experiences, play, and exploration. Preschoolers have the option of two, three or five days a week and can choose morning or afternoon depending on what best fits their schedule. Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten meets all five days and parents have the option of half day or full day. The full day kindergarten class includes exploration in subjects such as: music, art, science, Spanish, and swimming. *RJ’s Preschool, Prekindergarten & Kindergarten typically follows the Salem/Keizer school district calendar with a few exceptions.

If you have a swimmer unsure of competition, the Pre Comp class is the perfect introduction. Participants experience the fun of a team sport without the competition. The Kroc Center seeks to provide a safe and encouraging environment for all. With this in mind, it is important for all who participate to share a community approach for caring for each other and the facility resources. The policies are designed with that community approach in mind. If a member is unwilling or unable to abide by these policies, Kroc leadership has the right to refuse service on a daily or permanent basis.

Child Safety

The Salvation Army is dedicated to keeping children and vulnerable adults safe from physical, emotional, and sexual harm. We refer to our safety efforts as “Protecting The Mission.” Members and guests are encouraged to report suspicious behavior. Forms for anonymous reporting, called Confidential Notices of Concern, are available at any Guest Service Desk. The Salvation Army Kroc Center reserves the right to remove from the facility and terminate the membership of any member who fails to comply with any posted rules and regulations or otherwise breaches the Code of Conduct, in which case member will not be entitled to a refund of dues.

Short Term Child & Youth Watch We are pleased to provide a safe and interactive environment for your youngest Kroc Center Guests. Child care is available for children ages 4 months to 9 years. Child/Youth Watch is open on a first-come, first-serve basis and subject to availability. Our nurturing environment helps care for children who may be experiencing their first structured separation from a parent as well as providing activities for a wide variety of ages. Child Watch fun includes a caring and dedicated staff, arts and crafts, fun books and puzzles and games, as well as interactive toys. Monday-Friday: 7:45am-8:30pm and Saturday: 7:45am-1pm
